speaking of taking a flier on guy:

Brad Penny to a 1 year deal with an option while he rehabs as they did with lieber - NOT as they did with Dotel where they paid him to rehab in their facilities and sharpen his game for a year so he could go somewhere else

same for mark prior, but possibly with the intention of transforming him into a reliever maybe a future cloer. not sure if he would consider that as last year i remember him being aweful cocky and demanding for a guy who was injured almost his entire career, but it may be worth a shot for him to make something of his career.

any thoughts on if the yanks would do that or if the players would do that

As for the Sox getting Tex

isnt youk aside from being varitikian is his gritty guttiness, a gold glove caliver firstbaseman?

I do know he isnt exactly fleet of foot and wouldnt be an asset in the OF. With Drew in center, I dont see that being a great defensive outfield and would coost the future varitikian in the making ellsbury at-bats. With lowel signed for 2 years it would probably take them out of the 2010 carl crawford matt holliday race.

While there is no doubt Tex will make them better, i just cant see the move making a lot of sense for them, but then again Theo is the best GM in baseball and if anyone can solve their corner infielder glut it is him. Plus it wont be like the glut of players at the same position the Yankees had to deal with the past couple of years and to some extent this year - 3 or 4 guys who play who's only true position is DH.
