Open Thread: Jets playing for their season

By

It’s fitting that Chad Pennington would be the one standing in the way of a possible Jets’ playoff spot, but Gang Green has no one to blame but themselves after the past few weeks. It’s a simple scenario: the Jets need to beat the Dolphins AND the Ravens to lose at home to Jacksonville. The Pats already knocked off the Bills 13-0 to clinch a playoff spot and need the Jets to win to clinch a postseason berth.

Talk about the action here if you want. Just play nice.

So Mike, your not nervous right?

  4. Ivan says:

    How about TB?

losing 4 straight games and losing the final game at home against the raiders yikes.

  5. Kevin G. says:

What needs to happen for both the Cowboys and the Eagles to not make the playoffs?

  6. Matt says:

Rooting for the Eagles is making me feel really, really dirty.

    But fuck the Cowboys.

  7. Mike Pop says:

    Uh-oh

  8. Ryan S. says:

Uh-oh, TO is running his mouth on the sidelines! If the Cowboys lose, his post game news conference is going to be amazing.

  9. Reggie C. says:

    McNabb is warming up.

  10. Reggie C. says:

Does anybody follow college football? What position should the G-men be drafting with their 1st rounder?

  11. Mike Pop says:

Time to bring out the gunslinger in Romo. 4 WR sets with Witten.

  12. Mike Pop says:

Boy this sucks, Im gonna go

    • Ryan S. says:

Go post on a Rangers baseball forums if you want love for the Cowboys.

      • Mike Pop says:

Im not looking for Cowboy love. I was referring to the game. But anyway ya’ll hate em anyways. Even if we won today you wouldd still be saying our offense is pathetic and we have no shot for anything.

Season sucked, lost Romo for 4 weeks, we blew (like the JEts) so many freakin games it has been unbelievable. We had Procter(i hope he gets cut and never touches a football again). Kosier was huge and we lost him, losing Roy Williams(SS) was bigger than most thought. We dealt with injuries. Not much went right for us at all. And who cares bout all these fumbles anymore, it wont change the outcome. It is pathetic and Ill be the first one to admit it. Im hurt man, this team had way too much potential to have this type of a season. Its sickening. WR Roy Williams, I have no idea what we are doing with him.

I want either Garret or Wade to go. Garret’s play calling sucks so bad this year. Cowher 09!

        • Jay CT says:

I don’t think Cowher would go near Jerry Jones. Those two wouldn’t seem to gell. And the Cowboys have gotten devistated by injuries, but the Steelers have as well, and they overcame it. I have said all along, TO will be gone after this year. They gave up a LOT for Williams for a reason. I think Owens winds up in New England- the only place he can be controlled.

          • Mike Pop says:

Wrong, TO is not going anywhere. He is fine, he is not the reason they lost all these games and the reason they have had this season. What they gave up for Williams remains to be seen if it was worth it. They got him for 5 or 6 years now. I would look to bring in Rex Ryan(Bal D Cord) or def Cowher. Why would’nt Cowher want to go there? This team is SB ready and there is no question bout that. He would not have to build up a new team, the only thing would be to get D-Ware his money. If he was given full-control and was shown the money, there is no doubt in my mind he would go there.

Ryan is awesome because he controls people and makes them his bitch. Something totally opposite from Wade. The Cowboys will be a better team next year and be looked at as much more of a threat come midseason. You can hold me to it.

Who has been more dissapointing, Cowboys or Jets ? Both teams had the playoffs pretty much locked but they fucked up. Cowboys had higher expectations but they came down after Romo got injured.

Pitt didnt have injury losses like Dallas. Didnt lose their QB for 3 or 4 games depending on if you count if he was fully-healed.

            • Jay CT says:

Jerry Jones always gets involved. Bill Parcells said evey place he ever went, 3 or 4 years later you knew he was there. He said in Dallas, the minute he left it would look like he was never there. Clearly, I am not a Cowboy fan, but they did in fact give up a lot to get Williams. I think Williams has a hell of a lot of talent, hes a local guy and this is his dream. You can say Owens this and Owens that, but the fact is, Owens is a selfish player who decomposes between the white lines when things dont go his way. I do not believe he is a bad guy; never in trouble with the law, etc… I just think he needs to be on a team where he is instructed what to do. Phillips is a disaster, and Garret showed his age a bit this season. In the end, I think the Cowboys would be far better off without Owens. Also, Barber CANNOT be a back that has no help. He is a time share type RB, one who is too small to take the punishment that his body generates over the 16 week season due to his running style. Dallas can have the type of offense that the Pats had last year, but they can just as easily show their spots. And in regards to the injuries sustained through the season, Pitt had some huge injuries to their DB’s, their RB’s -Moore was their 4th string and played a huge role, Ben did not miss much time, a couple games, but was hurt ALL season. I am not a fan of Pitt, but Tomin has done a FANTASTIC job.

              • Mike Pop says:

I really dont know how to respond to this. Am I a fan of all Owens antics? No, not at all. But in the end he made our team much better and get alot more exposure. I do not think we would be better off without him. Does he cause a bit of trouble? Yes, but in the end I think it is overblown, especiall in Dallas. He caused some hype when Parcells was there but since Wade took over there really has not been much. Honestly I just want to see the 09 season here real quick. Hopefully we get RW involved more, sign Sean Jones to play safety. If RW gets involved, I think we will have a top 2 or 3 offense(which we should). Can Barber do it alone? Of course not, but both Felix, and Tashard have shown alot of promise this year when they have played. Felix is great in my opinion but that is probasbly biased. I am still for the RW trade because I have always liked this guy, he went to Texas. Like you said hometown type guy. I am also a lil bit of a Longhorn fan but that doesnt matter here.

You said Philips is a disaster, I kind of agree. I would much rather prefer him to be D Cordinator, what he has done in the past doing that has been very impressive. As I said before Rex Ryan would be awesome for a head coach, he busts people’s balls. Clearly alot different from Wade’s style. Garret had some horrible play calling this year, it was very dissapointing to me and all of us cowboy fans I would have to believe.

Pitt did great, of course. I guess you got a point, while I think we suffered more injuries to more key players than them, that remains to be seen.

I HATE Pitt because of one my friends so I always criticize them because when it comes to Football hes a total douche. He says he’s not but he really was a fairweather fan with them. Seemed like the day after they beat Indy in the playoffs he started repping a Big Ben jersey.

I do think in the end though, Cowher would definitely consider us. OF all the jobs open, we are probably the best chance to get a ring which I would assume would be important to him.

I really/truly am a Cowboy fan and have been one ever since I have watched the game. People say Im a fairweather fan but fuck em to be honest, I got Bledsoe, Carter, and Julius Jones’ jerseys. They have been my team.

And on Ware, I think he is the best in football. His athleticism and just the way he plays the game is awesome to me. I think he would be a top 5 pick for a guy on defense if you did that kind of draft. I watch all the games and just to watch how he can dominate the game on his ide of the ball is awesome for me to see. He has owned Brandon Jacobs quite a few times, not gonna lie. Harrison is very good too but I take Ware(could be bias speaking).

So Rex Ryan/Bill Cowher 09 for the Cowboys! Thats how I want it. Wish Wade would move to D cordinator but I dont think he would accept that role.

Im not sure if that is what you wanted, or whatever but that is how I feel. Sorry for any gramatical errors.

    Heh…

How much did Roy Williams cost the ‘Boys on that play … and in draft picks.

  14. Mike A. says:

    Lovely. Nice pass, Brett.

  15. Reggie C. says:

Pacman is playing football and Plax isn’t …. something is wrong there.

    Boston close to signing Penny

    • Reggie C. says:

Mets should get in on Penny. Gives them some leverage in the Lowe negotiations.

      • Ryan S. says:

Yeah. And I don’t want Penny getting the comeback player of the year award wearing a Red Sox uni.

      • chriistopher says:

the yankees should jump all over penny – a one year deal with a guy who has something to prove. this is a classic theo move – picks up pitchers from the scrap heap and see which ones work out.

I, for one, and rooting hard for the yanks to go out and get smoltz. he is a perfect fit for this team. give him extended spring training and by july there is always a ppitching injury. if not the team will have an idea as to the effectiveness of the oung guys. besides both hughes and joba wont be able to give more than 150 innings give or take 20. the yanks can do what the redsox did a couple of years ago when they worked in lester and bucholz by using their top 3 on regular rest and the bottom two on an extra day.

he showed last year that he can still get guys out on a regular basis, he can probably teach a lot to the youngsters and come playoff time he would be one hell of a set up man.

he is available and should be cheap – i hope the yanks are looking at him

  17. Ivan says:

    How bout them Cowboys uh?

  18. Ivan says:

Someone call suicide watch to help Mike Pop.

  19. RichYF says:

    LOL.

Mike Pop, Sorry bud. You just got owned. Romo is soooooo good.

  20. Manimal says:

Why are the Jets even trying?

  21. RichYF says:

    A football aside:

I grew up a Giants fan, but I followed Parcells to the Pats. I have Bledsoe, Meggett, Glenn, and Martin jerseys in my closet from when I was a kid. The Pats were always good enough to root for, but never great enough to win championships. That made it fun to watch them. The Super Bowl vs. Fav-ruh was such a bad night for me. I remember how sad I was, but it was just awesome to see it.

Then Brady gets the call when Bledsoe gets annihilated on the sideline. Part of me was happy because Brady is a Michigan guy (I also loved Michigan football growing up but I have no idea why. I think it was the “Wolverines” that drew me).

And then the Pats start winning titles. And it was awesome.

But last year, I was just disgusted by the whole 16-0 thing and how smug the fans were. With the Celts, the Sox, and the Pats, the Boston fans I knew were becoming such jackasses that I almost WANTED the Giants to win. I don’t really care for the Giants, but I don’t hate them as much as I used to. Eli is annoying, but he’s matured a lot this season in my opinion.

Anyway, the point is, I think I want the Pats to fail to make the playoffs. I can’t even root for them in public anymore. I feel so dirty. It’s sad. All of the people I know that like the Sox “looooveee” the Pats. But when I was growing up, everyone hated them. Now suddenly everyone is on board. It’s just one of those things that makes me want to root for the Jets (HAH!). But yeah, Go Miami?

  22. Reggie C. says:

    OMG.

    Cowboys getting owned.

  23. Ryan S. says:

    epic failure

  25. Jets! Speak to me! Are you fucking serious?

  26. Joey H says:

Penny to the Sox. Interesting if they think they are going to find their depth in a 260 pound blowhard hot head on a rapid decline with a 4 career ERA in the worst division in baseball.

  27. GG says:

    Mangenius…hahaaaa

  28. Mike A. says:

Baltimore won anyway, so they were done no matter how this game turned out. Sigh.

  29. Joey H says:

Did anyone else buy their CC Sabathia tee shirts yet? The team shirts with the NY on the front and the Number and name on the back. I’m waiting for the Teixeira ones to come out. However, I don’t see myself getting an AJ shirt.

  30. Mike Pop says:

Bad day for Jets n Cboy fans

  31. Hey, at least the end was exciting.

  32. GG says:

Mike what do you think of the different AL East rotations? I think we really need Andy to show up and eat his 200 innings but we have a great one either way. The Sawx with Wake and Penny at the back don’t scare me all that much. I think maybe the Rays are best 1-5? Maybe us though if we do get Andy

    • Joey H says:

If they go with a Beckett, Lester, Dice K, Penny, Wakefield, there are 3 guys who can easily go down in Beckett, Penny and Wakefield. Not to mention their offense would have been THAT much scarier with Teixeira.

    • Mike A. says:

I’m not sure who’s the best, the Sox, Rays and Yanks are pretty close as the top three. The Jays are fourth and the O’s fifth. It’s only December, so a lot can change between now and Opening Day.

  33. Joey H says:

Good for Chad. He leaves NY and now he is a superstar. What irony.

  34. E-ROC says:

    Go Ravens!!

    • Mike Pop says:

Congrats man, I’ll be cheering for them

      • Chris C. says:

How do you not root for Chad Pennington? He was the classiest guy that organization has ever had. He returned earlier than he should have from injuries even though the Jets O-Lines were always crappy, sacrificed money so others could be signed, and was the most camp-accessible player to the fans.

And even after the Jets lied to him about their interest in Favre before giving him the boot, he still had nothing but nice things to say about the organization on his way out the door. Then he takles a 1-15 team to the playoffs.

I can’t fathom how anyone wouldn’t root for a guy like that. Like it’s his fault he’s not a Jet anymore.

  35. Julie says:

GO DOLPHINS! I was working during the game, so I still can’t believe it.

  36. Fritzpeterson says:

    Mangini should be fired. Period.

    • Chris C. says:

      Ya think?

What, you don’t want another year of passing when they should run, running when they should pass, no blitzing, prevent defense, misusing tight ends, under-utilizing explosive offensive players, naming kids after washed-up QB’s, and hearing goofy-silly answers to goofy-silly game moves?

Gosh, sounds to me like you want to win football games, or something!
