Sign Sheets. He's also insurance in case Andy doesn't come back (I feel he'll retire this time). We're going to have to wait while the second tier players, like Sheets, fall in line financially after the market's been set by the top tier.

But a bold contract offer fairly early may get the Yankees on Sheets' radar - Yes, I say on Sheets' radar rather than the other way around because he's going to have a lot of suitors soon after the tier one guys go imo.

"Hopefully the Yankees are just playing coy with Sheets the way they did with Damon."

Man I hope so. Damon was one of the few free agent moves I think was a true value at the time and still feel that way.

What is the low down on Sheets? Just rumor? More then likely it is.
Everyone still trying to figure whom to trade for who? Not a chance guys, I know it is fun and all but, Cash has it in his hands and will not let it go until it is a done deal. I still say, something will come out of the blue and we will say WTF, where did this come from? Remember, Cash is a sneaky little guy, with the total backing of the big guys, he will come up with a trade that none of us though of...make book on it. Hell, we could end up with someone like Hamilton (Rangers), who knows. 27/09.

Well Sheets is somewhat in a different skill level then Pavano or present Pettitte, and Hampton as well. Ending a season on a high note I guess is a point in a favor of the other options but should they the upper NYY management make forward projections based on all the factors combined with the years of the contract plus money involved then to me Sheets is better/safer pick with a tremendous upside. Simply looking at the pitchers available for me Sheets at 3/42 million is a safer bet then AJ for 4/64 or 5/80 or Lowe at 36 years of age at 4/64.

Sheets would be great except hes always hurt and went down with an elbow injury last yr. But hey we def need a starting pitcher who doesn't pitch and rehabs in Tampa. He can replace Pavano.

"Cashman by wanting AJ or Lowe ahead of Sheets is going backwards on his own philosophy of roster flexibility."

I favor Sheets over the other two as well, but, it's not that simple. Sheets ended the season hurt, the other two ended the season on a high note. If Sheets made it through the season healthy, he'd be clearly above Burnett and Lowe, but that didn't happen.

If roster flexibility was the only factor, we would've jumped on Pettitte, Hampton, and Pavano.

Yup, that's correct. The Yankees would give up picks #26 and #59 based off the current draft order. Well, it would be #26 and #61, as the two supplemental picks would get inserted in between those picks.

Granted Sizemore is a longshot but stranger things have happened.

Yes, like that one time I may have witnessed what appeared to be a large porcine animal hurtle across the evening sky, propelled by means of winged aerial locomotion.
