Updates on Burnett and Sabathia
ByWe know that The Yanks are on CC Sabathia’s list. Now we hear via Jayson Stark that last night’s meeting was mostly a session for CC to gauge life in New York. That’s fair enough. As Stark notes, this is a major life decision for CC, as he’ll likely be signed through most of his remaining productive years. Why not have all the information possible at hand before making that decision.
(Though someone might disagree about obtaining as much info as possible to make a decision.)
The Yanks are also making moves on their second free agent target, A.J. Burnett. Jerry Crasick reports that the Yankees are looking to make an offer, and “might be willing to surpass the guaranteed dollar figure that Atlanta has on the table for the free agent right-hander.” The Atlanta deal is reportedly for four years and $60 million, with an option for a fifth year which could bring the package to $75 million. No one seems sure about the nature of the option; early word was that it would vesting, though it could just be a team one.
Oh, and Sheets is in the house. When asked about the Yankees, he replied: “I haven’t even given it thought.” That might not sound good, but he also had this to say about his prospects in general: “There’s nothing out there for me to contemplate right now.” So we will see.

I could see this CC thing ending tonight or tomorrow morning, allowing Boras to move on to some trickyer clients.
Sorry, meant Tex.
lol oh…then ignore my comment.
if only, CC goes like “ahh wth, the Yanks were the first team to offer me contact which making me the highest paid pitcher immediately. They were sincere enough.”
I’m not even sure what being on his list means. Wouldn’t any team thinking about making him an offer be on his list?
uh oh..

I saw the same thing at this point I’m done with the CC thing call me when he signs.
Yeah, CC’s words, through Colletti. I’m sure it’s a liberal interpretation.
If CC wants to be a Dodger good luck to him. That means we have 140 million to spend elsewhere. That is Manny, Sheets, Andy and possibly another 5th starter type.
How big might CC’s belly be if he ever lands in a town with good food?
whats all this bull s==t…about wanting to see how it would be to play in ny…thats a cop out..he played for cleveland a number of years..he even pitched against the yanks in the playoffs….he knows how it is in ny…dont bs us anymore cc…….my guess is he is waiting on a west coast team….good luck….aj and lowe and sheets look real good about now….
Yeah, because he’ll clearly have an idea of family life and school for his kids just by having pitched for Cleveland.
And you equate pitching in New York as an opponent to signing the biggest contract for a pitcher in MLB history to become the Yankees ace after they just missed the playoffs for the first time in 14 seasons? Really?
It’s December 8th. It’s December 8th. It’s December 8th. It’s December 8th. It’s December 8th. It’s December 8th. It’s December 8th. It’s December 8th.
but tomorrow is december 9th!!!!
Shit what day is it ?
Monday.
aj and lowe and sheets look real good about now
And CC doesn’t? Stop behaving like a little girl that isn’t allowed to open her Barbie yet!
But Christmas is only 17 days away, why can’t I open my Barbie nowwwwwww?????
Personally, I f*king hated Barbies. Why can’t I open my Lego set nowwwwwww??????
you must be an expert on barbies…you will see that i am not far off of what i said…
OOOOOOOOOOhhhhhhhhh!!!!! GOOD COMEBACK!!!
No, I bet YOU are the expert on Barbie!
Your mom’s an expert on barbies.
you should quit playing with dolls and pay attention to baseball blogs….
too bad you are a jerk when conversing to others…i am a true yankee fan and for my lifetime..you talk like a red sox idiot..
Let’s git ‘em both done this week!
Hey guys you heard anything with Pettitte? Is he gonna resign back with the yanks?
I may be a bit too optimistic and ignorant to his market, but I really don’t see him signing elsewhere. I mean, is another club really going to offer him a substantial amount more than what the Yankees did – or will, if the Yanks’ current offer is increased – to get Pettitte out of the Bronx?
The only team I can see going is LA, other than that you have a point.
Oh, and the day Brian Westbrook retires will be the second, greatest day of my life as a Giants’ fan – or third, depending on how the rest of this season plays out. I swear, now I know what Knicks’ fans felt when they went up against Reggie Miller; or Mets’ fans when Chipper Jones and the Braves come to Shea.
or a mets fan for the entire month of september.
Ouch, babe.
Yea Brian Westbrook sure like playing the Giants in the Meadowlands.
For all the “Knick killing” that Reggie did, we beat them in 2 playoff series, and they beat us in 2. It’s not nearly as one-sided as everyone makes it out to be. If you want one-sided, see: Michael Jordan.
My bad, it was 3-3 in series (Knicks – 93, 94, 99/Pacers – 95, 98, 00)
Yea Jordan was the ultimate Knick Killer.
MJ was pretty much the ultimate everyone killer…that’s why he’s got six rings.
Holy shit, Joe, that book sounds awesome. That and “Stuff White People Like” (check out the site, it’s all in good-humored, jocose taste: http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/ ) have just been added to my “must get” list.

Heh, the comedy isn’t in the list, it’s in the reasons why.
That doesn’t even include my personal favorite, “Everything European.”
As a white person, I have/had/enjoy/like/am involved with 42 of those things.
I’ve counted 27. There are certain things which I am ambivalent about, and I actually like listening to classical music, but only by myself since no one else deems it appropriate ‘car music’.
I also do not like bangs on women.
what about with?
Bangs with women?
I just don’t like bangs in general. They’re obnoxious.
Dude, I’m telling you, the first day I discovered that site I was literally glued to my laptop screen.
Oh, http://www.hotchickswithdouchebags.com/ is another of my personal favorites.
If you’re ever feeling down about yourself, just go to Hot Chicks With Douchebags. You’ll instantly feel better. Unless you’re a douchebag, that is.
….or a hot chick with one.
My friend has a true sensor for those dudes. I remember just a couple of days ago, we were on our way to see “Transporter 3″ (good flick… if that Valentia chic wasn’t apart of the movie) and he spotted some guy with “douche-beard” in a store that we just walked by. According to my boy, the guy had a beard that resembled some “Blade” type thing.
*Oh, and LoL at Google-ing “douche beard” and getting pictures of Kyle Orton’s infamous neck-beard.
And for the record, #s 33, 38, and 69 go hand-in-hand. Then again, 33 goes with everything.
I think marijuana should be on the list of things errbody likes. Especially sean ellis.
“This is good stuff. I got it from a Negro. You’re probably high already and you don’t even know it. “
This is a hybrid. This is a cross, ah, of Bluegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent, and Northern California Sensemilia. The amazing stuff about this is, that you can play 36 holes on it in the afternoon, take it home and just get stoned to the bejeezus-belt that night on this stuff.
Love sarah silverman. She would probably be wacky in bed.
It’s hilarious…I’m a self proclaimed white puerto rican and I have to say I have indulged in many of things on this list lol. I like the site though it has a comical sense of humor to social critique
Strange that Gladwell himself isn’t on that list.
Seriously. White people love Canadians with crazy hair.
Number 80 is to much…notice:
#80. The Idea of Soccer
Notice how its not the actual game of soccer…white people just like the idea of soccer lol.
Back when I worked at a guitar shop I had to do some stupid sale at Costco. No one walks into Costco wanting to buy a Fender Stratocaster. About 5 minutes after sitting down, I got that book from their table and finished it before the end of the day. Great read.

Dodgers’ GM says CC told him he wants to play for the Dodgers. Thoughts?
We’ve already talked about this on this thread.
My thoughts are that if it’s true, then he’s just screwing with us to get another offer. I’d pull the current offer. If the Dodgers only have to compete with Milwaukee, then Sabathia can enjoy making less than Barry Zito, but I wouldn’t want to sit around trying to facilitate CC’s contract negotiations with another team.
Jamal give me a list of some more sites you like to partake in, it looks like we have the same test in tasteless humor
Well, there’s the aforementioned SWPL and HCWD, the well-known College Humor, and the site of my friend/H.S. art teacher/acting mentor, Craig Dourmashkin: http://www.craigdonline.com/ . I’m sorry, but I just laugh every time I see that second picture. Also, we all say he has rape-face because he actually played an extra on an episode of “Law and Order: SVU” (the episode where detectives Stabler and Benson raided a orgy party, and everyone present was brought into the police station for questioning; Mr. D’s face flashed across the screen in one scene)
Honestly, I get a lot of my laughs from “The Office”. You have no idea how obsessed I am with the character, Creed.

They actually added 116 to the site and it is:

Lol
“Heyman agrees, suggesting a forthcoming Yankee offer for Burnett in the four-year, $64MM range.”
Damn that’s a lot of money for AJ.
Hey, let’s all just hopes he goes for the security of the long-term deal and pitching in the offensively weaker league.
For once we can agree on something.
It’s $16 million a season. Only $3 million more than Matsui is making this season.
Yeah I would prefer to see AJ pitch elsewhere if it is anywhere near that amount of $.
“Twins Interested In Tejada
By Tim Dierkes [December 8 at 6:57pm CST]
6:57pm: MLB.com’s Alyson Footer says the Twins expressed interest in Tejada. The Astros would like to get one of the Twins’ young starters, and would be willing to eat salary.”
MLBTR
Now the only question is ‘Why?’
http://www.baseball-reference......mi01.shtml
They need somebody to teach their young players how to inject undetected PEDs
Or forget their birthdate.
or look like a stunt double for Ja Rule.
Well, the fact that he’s able to put solid wood on the ball (23.4 LD% ranked 13th amongst all N.L. hitters) might lead the Twins to believe he will fare a bit better playing eighty-one games on that turbo field in the Metrodome. Also, he led N.L. short stops with an .856 Zone Rating, so his defense (which was reported to be better than expected) wouldn’t be a huge factor. Lastly, Tejada is a free-agent-to-be entering in the 2009 season, so this is purely a short-term solution. I actually like this idea.
Well sheets should start thinking about it and then go ahead and sign
EXACTLY
what’s the likey breakdown of the CC contract in terms of years? like 2009 he’d make X, 2010 he’d make X, and so on
In each year of the contract he makes 23 million McDonald’s cheeseburgers (or 8 million Big Macs)
Plus, he gets a 7 million Chilpotle Burger signing bonus.
If we win the World Series in any of the years he gets a supersize for each remaining years burgers.
Most likely frontloaded so hes getting paid the most while hes most productive.
In one way, it’s to the Yanks’ advantage to front-load it. They get some exemptions from revenue sharing due to the new stadium construction this season, and I think next season too. That’s part of the reason that ARod’s deal is front-loaded.
However, the economy bites. So…they might want to push it back some.
Upshot…I dunno
That will be governed by factors that elude us. It will likely not contain as much deferred money as the Milwaukee deal, if any at all.
time value of money says backload
23 Million next year on CC Sabathia, does anyone realize thats for then were paying for ANY of our players besides AROD. Or our whole bullpen combined.
seems reasonable to me… he’d be our second best player… and im guessing 23 million is more than most bullpens in the league
well our bullpen came out to 20 something
“Per Sherman, the Yanks met with Sheets today.”
There is hope and Sheets and Jeter have the same agent for what it’s worth.
Things are starting to heat up at MLBTR.
yup, just about to post that
http://www.nypost.com/seven/12.....143256.htm
7:17pm: Bill Shaikin talked to a Giants official who says they’re “definitively” not interested in Manny Ramirez. They are, however, interested in Sabathia.
Abraham notes that Sabathia requested that second meet with the Yanks.
6:19pm: Peter Abraham learned from Brian Cashman that the Yanks met with Sabathia again today.
Whats going on here??
BTW this is all quoted from MLBTR except the whats going on here
7:26pm: Dan Graziano says Sabathia requested both Yankees meetings, the second of which took place at the pitcher’s room at the Wynn. Sabathia’s left Vegas, and didn’t give the Yanks a timetable
bizzarre
Cashman might be getting played.
agree
Was that a meeting possibly to say no thankyou?
7:31pm: The Yankees are looking for a utility infielder, and Brian Cashman said today Punto is on their radar
Did i predict this or not???
yes, sir you did
7:35pm: Brian Cashman spoke about Cano, Ian Kennedy, and Phil Hughes. He doesn’t seem likely to trade any of them
[...] a quick follow-up on Joe’s latest: According to PeteAbe, the Yanks and CC Sabathia met again today. While Pete also has word of [...]
In case any of you are intrested in baseball news in general check over to MLBTR.com they have a new article litterally every 2 minutes.
CC asked to meet with the Yankees for the second time after he spoke with the Dodgers. He’s looking at his options, but right now the Yankees seem to be his best choice.
