Large guys have manned that position before. Troy Glaus. Miguel Cabrera (he could still man it imo). There's got to be others...

Montero would have to stay at 225 though. I think he's done growing vertically. Cabrera is probably around 240 and the dude struggles with his weight. Honestly, Montero doesn't offer much position flexibility.

The Yankees will give Montero every chance they can to make the relationship between Montero and catcher work. His value receives an enormous boost should he remain at the position. Should he have to move, third base would be the next best option, followed by first base, where his bat would play, but would be much closer to average than at the other two positions. Even a move to third base would be difficult because it’s unknown if he has the feet for the position.

Hmmm, hadn't considered that before. You guys think Montero could really hack it at 3B?

Yankees 2014 lineup:

Austin Jackson, CF
J.J. Hardy, SS
Alex Rodriguez, DH
Mark Teixeira, 1B
Jesus Montero, 3B
Robinson Cano, 2B
Derek Jeter, LF
Austin Romine, C
Melvin Croussett, RF

Very well put together list/reports. Didn't necessarily agree with order, but I like the fact that they didn't take the easy route and hand the top spot to AJax just because everyone else is doing it. Looks like I've got a new site to bookmark...

I couldn't agree more. I think both Hughes and Kennedy will be quality starters for many years in this league. Hughes definitely has the potential to be a number 1, but Kennedy very well could be a legitimate number 2 or 3, similar to Wang. It isn't going to happen overnight and he may need a few years to realize that ceiling, but it's definitely there.

I think he still has a shot to be a #2, but it just may take longer than Yankee fans are willing to wait. He has terrific command (avg control) of 4 quality pitches. Guys like that don't grow on trees, and often have lots of room to grow.

As he matures, he'll learn to add little wrinkles to each pitch, effectively expending his repertoire and meaning a hitter can go an entire AB without seeing the exact same pitch. Also, I think his lack of a plus fastball can be made to work FOR him. What will make him tough is that everything appears to look the SAME. That makes hitters uncomfortable against him because they never know what's coming. That was Maddux's secret, and he was IPK's idol.
