I disagree with that interpretation wholeheartedly.

The 2008 Brewers were a "win-now" team.

The 2008 Royals were a "win-later" team.

The Yankees are always and constantly a "win-now AND win-later" team.

All of you are misinterpreting what Mike said and what I agreed with.

He said that, If he’s healthy, like he was in June and October ‘07 he’s one of the 10-12 best players in the game.

He wasn't saying that Drew is one of the 10-12 best players in the game. He was saying that for his brief periods of maximum effectiveness, he’s one of the 10-12 best players in the game. Your lengthy lists of players who are better than Drew for the duration of a season or career are accurate, but not rebuttals to Mike's point as you're talking about something different.

More simply put, the Yanks are a win-now team. So trading a player who can help you win in 09 for a prospect makes no sense to them, unless its a highly coveted, high upside guy. And those guys aren't available for 1 year rentals.

Theo apparently has a longer memory than some around here do. The Red Sox were known for having big hitting, slow footed, poor defensive teams for many years. And while they looked good on paper, they never won anything. They would build teams for that ballpark. When Theo took over he put more emphasis on pitching and defense, and the rest is history.

Dunn would represent a step back in that direction, so I would welcome the move. He can be pitched to in big spots, his SO rates should scream that out to you.

I'm not sure if I'm alone in this or not....I have ABSOLUTELY no idea when TSJC is joking and when he's serious. I usually assume he's joking, but that post above I just couldn't tell.
