Can someone tell me what's up with Juan Cruz? I know about the whole deal with having to give up the 1st round pick, but not a single rumor on him. Isn't that strange? I’m missing something?

He’s got DH, regression due to lack of Arlington park effects, and being a fine example of the Cubs curse written all over him.

Eh, I'd say the Nats were probably in on Manny, at least to a level where they can reasonably be used by Boras. The Angels had money but weren't remotely interested, but the Nats had money and at least made an overture or two at a big ticket free agent bat (both Tex and Manny).

Now, when Coletti says to Boras "Where the hell else is Manny going to get 20M?" Boras doesn't have any more good answers.

I agree. While Boston can't be classified as a "loser", when you miss out on the hands-down best positional FA of either this or next year's FA class to your greatest rival over what is (in the baseball world) chump change -$12M more over 8 years or something would've gotten the deal done, right? - and then focus all of your resources on reclamation projects that may or may not work out, you are NOT a hot stove league winner. Boston didn't need to improve all that much to begin with to stay competitive though, in all fairness to them.

Yeah, I can see Boston not being a "big loser" this offseason, because they didn't really lose anything of importance and made some decent bets on upside. But calling them a "winner" is a stretch.
