The eighth highest paid man in all the game

By

Sports Business Journal, via Maury Brown, reports that Bud Selig’s total compensation exceeded $18 million in 2008. His $18.35 million package put him $7 million ahead of the NFL’s Roger Goddell and makes Bud Selig, the beleaguered commissioner, the eighth highest paid person in baseball in 2008. Suddenly, the Yanks’ spending doesn’t seem so exorbitant, and all of the outrage over escalating salaries may be a bit misdirected.

George Bush to be Selig’s replacement? what would be his VORP?

Is any portion of his salary subject to revenue sharing?

God forbid the comissioner of the entire league is highly paid.
What a crime. He gets paid by the owners, and the league has prospered on his watch.
He shouldn’t make the same as Jason Giambi?

ahahah bush might be a polarizing figure but he gets ppl talking. and ppl talking usally means dollars.

So he was making 3M in ’03, and now he’s making 18M base… so its not some bonus off of baseball attendance or anything, seems like that could trim that down to 10M and find something better to do with the 8M…especially given I wouldn’t consider Selig some amazing commish.

What a joke. The eight highest payed man doesn’t even suit up for games.

    • Mike Pop says:

Why is that a joke? He runs the league, he should be getting paid $$$. Although 18 is a little ridiculous but I’m not gonna hate on him for it.

    • Tom Zig says:

He wears a suit, usually a gray one that is straight out of the 1980s.

Yeah, look how much Spielberg makes, and he aint even on the movie screen!

My boss makes 100 times more than I do, and he aint the one going out there bringing in the sales. But he does assume the risk if the business loses money. That’s the way the world works.
The owners are the ones paying him his salary, and the owners are the ones that make the investments in their teams that either make or cost their organizations (and themselves) money.

AROD and Jeter make no investments, and have no financial risks. They just collect and collect and collect, regardless of how the organization is doing. And if the organization flops, they can just go elswewhere and make more money, and assume no liabilities.

      Yeah, poor, poor ballplayers.

Selig’s been commish for 17 years, do you do it until you retire or until you get voted out? Is there some sort of rule?

  7. Mike Pop says:

Sorry Ben, can’t resist. Too funny

Well, Oliver Perez finally signed up with the Mets. Apparently him and K-Rod are worth the same exact amount of money to the Metropolitans.

Is it me or did my comment about Buster’s chat get erased. Spam filter doesn’t like me?

  12. I can only assume Buster’s response was:

    [ head explodes ]
