Yanks have the odds

By

A few days ago, the creatively-named online sportsbook SportsBook.com released its most recent set of odds for the 2009 baseball season. Unsurprisingly, the Yankees came out on top. Our hometown team is the 5/2 favorite to capture the title. Someone tell Mayor Bloomberg to save the date for the parade.

    Shhhhhhhh, don’t jinx it.

  2. JeffG says:

Surprised the Rays are going 12/1… I think the smart bet would be to double Yanks, one Rays, one Sox, and one Cubs.

Is there going to be a chat today?

Twins, only 25/1? I like their chances, not gonna lie. Full season of Liriano, maybe some improvement from Span and Gomez. They got a serious team.

    • Mike A. says:

Word. That’s not a bad buy at all.

      • It’s a bad buy.

I can see the Twins winning the AL Central. I cannot see the Twins winning the whole shebang. Not gonna happen.

        • Sweet Dick Willie says:

And did you have the Cards winning in ’06? The point is, once your in the playoffs, anything can happen.

Yanks are 5:2 and could (in)conceivably not make the playoffs. If the Twins get in, their odds just went up.

I look for the team(s) with the highest odds, and then try to determine if they have a reasonable shot at the playoffs. If they do, then that’s a good bet (because the team(s) with the better odds may not even make the post season).

        • Mike Pop says:

To say that a team can make the playoffs but then have no shot at winning the whole thing is senseless. Any team has a shot in the playoffs once they are there and to be honest they would have a great shot. They have 2 studs in Liriano and Baker plus a nice little bullpen if Neshek returns to form. I said in 04 that I could see the Sox winning a game, maybe even 2 against the Yanks but definitely not the whole shebang. Look how that ended up. Horrible.

  5. Sweet Dick Willie says:

Right now, I think the A’s (55:1) and the Rangers (60:1) look the most attractive, simply because the Angels have done nothing this off-season, so they would have a shot at the division, and once you make the play-offs, well, anything can happen.

The Giants at 40:1 would be fantastic IF they signed Manny. Of course, you would have to place the bet now and hope they did, because if they did, the odds would obviously decrease.

SportsBook.com rules. Best place to wager online. Although it is tougher to get a quick payout now with the “new regulation”

  7. MattG says:

I’ll take the Yanks, Sox and Rays against the field. Three best teams in the game, and I don’t think #4 is close.

  8. Dan says:

I love this blog, but can we do something about that disgusting Flat Stomach Obey advertisement. It’s hard to concentrate when I have to stare at Youkilis and Pedroia with their shirts up…

    • Ben K. says:

Are you staring at it? Just scroll up or down past it or hit refresh. It cycles through the Google ads.

    • Mike Pop says:

I love how this is such a big deal to some people.

      • I can totally see Dan writing ABC saying “Hey, great job with Ugly Betty, it’s an awesome show, I love it, but can you guys cut it out already with the Swiffer ‘Baby Come Back’ ads with the Mexican mariachi band already? Ugh, disgusting. I hate that song and I hate Mexicans. I shouldn’t have to suffer through that horrible commercial just to watch the show I love ever so much.”

        • Mike Pop says:

…oh and uh by the way, the janitor they showed in last night’s show, umm ya he was Mexican. Sooooo let’s change that up for next time, as we all know I’m not a big fan of them.

    • Should be working says:

Its kinda funny cause the ad I got after seeing one of those was a Pizza Hut pizza for 10 bucks :d
