BtB’s optimized Yanks lineup
BySky Kalkman was a big contributor to the thread about an optimized Yankees lineup yesterday. Over at his home site today he breaks things down himself. We match up with Jeter and Teixeira hitting 1-2, but he plugs in Nick Swisher No. 3, where I had Johnny Damon. From there it’s A-Rod, Matsui, Posada, Damon, Cano, and Gardner. I’m not a lefty-righty-lefty-righty junkie, but three lefties in a row is not something you’ll see in many major league lineups. Still, it’s a neat exercise in re-thinking the traditional roles in the batting order. Hey, at least he’s not suggesting something crazy like Matsui hitting leadoff…

I’m in favor of any lineup that includes Swisher over Nady.
That’s actually how I had it when I was coming up with a lineup based on his criteria in class yesterday. Swisher just struck me as a really good fit for the 3 spot especially if you project a little bounce back in his bat. I had Melky instead of Gardner just to soften the lefty stack with the LOOGYs, don’t want them taking out 3 guys. Two lefties in a row isn’t ideal either but since Nady, our first bat off the bench, is a righty he’ll be there to break up the lefty stack a few times a week.
Oh, and before anyone jumps down my/your throat, we realize that the point is moot because it won’t happen. Luckily it doesn’t make a huge difference overall in a season and we realize it’s not gonna happen so don’t yell at us.
a resurgent robbie cano is fun to imagine hitting between tex and a-rod. nothing but fastballs…
Johnny D is my leadoff man till gardner gets that OBP to about .370. Though I must admit, Damon in a slot to grab RBI’s is tempting thought.
