Spring Training Game Thread: For those lucky enough

By

Today’s game on MLB Network is blacked out in the New York area because YES is a bunch of fascists exercised their contractual right to keep it off the airwaves in their market, but for those that live outside of NY, here’s your game thread for today’s action. CC Sabathia is pitching in a minor league game, while this squad will face David Price and the rest of the AL Champion Rays:

Gardner, CF
Melky, LF
Nady, RF
Swisher, 1B
Cano, DH
Ransom, 2B
Berroa, 3B
Pena, SS
Cash, C

Scheduled Pitchers: Al Aceves, Kei Igawa, Damaso Marte, Steven Jackson

First pitch is scheduled for 1:15. Enjoy the game, lucky bastards.

Damn, and I was hoping you guys would do 900 word piece on Alex and the hooker.

    • John says:

The hooker part seems kinda true. However, the part where she said the A-rod told him he took ‘roids just pushed it and I doubt that’s true.

Just more media-driven crap against Alex.

      • Peter Lacock says:

Is there something wrong about the worlds oldest profession?

      • John says:

        *told her
        not told him

      • Artist formerly known as 'The' Steve says:

If Alex had half a brain, he wouldn’t put himself in these situations over and over again.

Plus, I don’t think these stories are an accident, I think they’re a pre-emptive strike because the Selena Roberts book is rumored to have stuff about him being sexually confused. So his PR people are leaking all sorts of stuff to the press making him look like Hetero-Superman. Don’t forget, his PR people generally deal with Hollywood types. Both of the two stories leaked yesterday appeared in the gossip, not sports sections. Those are the reporters they would know.

        Here’s the other one:

        • Frank says:

You think his PR people are purposely leaking these kinds of stories????

I think it’s the opposite. I think these stories are being leaked by connections in the media to generate interest in the book. I’m sure Alex’s infatuation with hookers is well documented there. They’re trying to make sure the A-Rod controversy doesn’t go away and people don’t lose interest while he’s injured. You have to keep stories like this out there until the book comes out. It’s just stirring the pot before it boils.

Plus if his PR people wanted to imply how Super Hetero Alex is… they could point to his smoking-hot ex wife, well publicized relationship with Madonna (even though she’s broke), cheating on his smoking-hot ex wife with a smoking-hot stripper, and other rumored relationships like Kate Hudson…. who is smoking-hot.

You don’t have to take the illegal hooker route.

  2. Steve H says:

This Price guy looks pretty good, but what I can’t figure out is, why isn’t he in the 8th inning? Get ESPN on this asap.

  3. Facsist? Don’t you know YES is a bunch of socialist totalitarian dictators, just like RAB?

    • Artist formerly known as 'The' Steve says:

      FIGHT THE POWER!!

      FIGHT THE POWERS THAT BE!!!

      • Mike Pop says:

        Public Enemy Number ONE!

      • Peter Lacock says:

Yah but I’d rather get all the regular season coverage that someone like me that gets todays game, doesn’t get.
Gardner got CS because he slid head first and Kennedy blocked his hand from the bag. Good learning out.

  4. Austin says:

I live in MA, I may get the game today but I hardly consider myself lucky.

    • Steve H says:

How is it this year? I bought it last year and canceled after a day, it sucked. Any better this year?

      • Matt says:

It seems alright to me; I’ve had it since the ’07 season and I’ve liked it. What’s funny, though, is in ’07 I wasn’t blacked out from Yankee games, but all last season I was.

      • Moshe Mandel says:

Much better, in my book. They also are going to be unveiling a new player, non-silverlight, before the season. They tried it out for some WBC games, and it was excellent. great quality, easy to use PIP to watch multiple games.

        • Steve H says:

Nice, thanks. I had it in 07 and enjoyed it, but last year couldn’t stand it so I went with extra innings, but I’m going back to mlb.tv this year.

  5. rafael says:

    Enjoy the game, lucky bastards.

At least you don’t have to buy Extra Innings to catch games throughout the year.

  6. MikeD says:

So my options are to watch a replay of Tampa Bay in the World Series in 2008 on MLB, or watch the Yankees in the World Series in 1998 on YES?

Thanks YES. I think I’ll go turn on the Mets so they get my viewing dollars today.

  7. Matt says:

Berroa w/a GIDP, doing his best DJ impression.

    I kid, I kid.

  8. Mike Pop says:

    Anything good happening?

  9. Manimal says:

    NICK SWISHER!!! HOLY FUCK!

    We dont need no Texiera

  10. Ben B. says:

Does someone understand YES’s thinking, here? They don’t want us to watch another team’s announcers covering the game?

  11. Arman Tamzarian says:

How many times can I watch the replays of the the late ninties world series before it becomes repetitive. It’s kind of taking the magic out of it.

  12. dan says:

Not missing much… bottom 6th, losing 3-0, Gardner caught stealing, bad defense on the DP, OF assists by Melky and Nady, and Kei Igawa just may end his streak of scoreless innings. Igawa’s throwing strikes though, hardly recognize him, oh wait, there’s those God-awful teeth.

  13. Eirias says:

It is late to post this, and I really feel bad, but I’m going to be out of the country, with spotty internet at best, for the month of April. I’m in the RABAL cabal, but I don’t want to compete in a league when I’ll be AWOL for a month.

I’m withdrawing from the RABAL. Is there any way someone who didn’t get in the first time can take my place?

  14. J.R. says:

Igawa looks like he is affraid of contact.

And he walks in his first run of the spring.

  15. Yankeegirl49 says:

My daughter made sure to rub it in to me today that she gets the game, its a rare occasion that she gets it and I don’t.
I made sure to point out that I will be at the first game at the new stadium, while she will not. :)

  16. Rob S. says:

I could see YES blacking out MLB Networks broadcast if they were also carrying the game. Since YES isn’t carrying the game it sucks pretty bad.

  17. Ryan S. says:

Yo someone dropped out of the RABAL league, we need a fill in ASAP.

  18. Drew says:

Poor Alex.. I bet if he was building that house in Tampa that Jetes is, it would be headline news across America: A-Rod builds 30,000 SF compound to conduct his prostitute and steroid business in a family town of Tampa Isles.
