Yes, my friends, there will be beer in the bleachers

By Joseph Pawlikowski

This off-season has been filled with questions about the new Stadium. One of the most frequent ones we’ve heard, besides “when will single game tickets go on sale?” was about beer in the bleachers. Would the Yankees lift the eight-year ban on alcohol? It appears the answer is yes. No longer will the bleachers be barricaded off from the rest of the Stadium. There won’t be any beer vendors, but there will be no restrictions on carrying your brew back to your seat. At $6 for 12 ounces, it’s not much more than your typical New York bar (if it’s more at all).

$6 bucks is actually less than both Stans and Billy’s..which both charge $7.

Kevin G. says:

Eight years from now, I will be drunk stoked.

andrew says:

8, wow. I’m less than two years away and I though I was young on here

Damn..now I really feel old!

Naw, don’t feel old… you’re our favorite Yankee MILF.

Joey says:

6 mo months baby!

Yankeegirl49 says:

Joey..you sound like my kid, tho it’s 8 for her. However, it hasnt seemed to stop her and I doubt it has stopped any of you young uns :)

jsbrendog says:

uhhhh…-4?

quarter century yoooo

Joey says:

Yankeegirl
Q1: Is she hot?
Q2: Does she live in Orlando?

Don’t have much hope for the second one. And no, I go to one of the bigger party schools in the country (UCF) plus I’m an hour and a half away from UF, a little more to FSU. Lets say there hasn’t been a limit on alcohol for me while here :-)

Yankeegirl49 says:

Actually she is..and Im not saying that cause I am her mom. She is in school at “The U”..but has friends at UCF and is there every so often…and she hasnt been limited much either. As long as she keeps getting A’s and stays out of trouble, I have no issue with it. If it aint broke, don’t fix it.

Joey says:

lol you’re a good mom

I personally will vouch for the hotness of both Yankeegirl49 and her daughter.

jsbrendog says:

$6? wow. tickjet prices went up and beer prices went down. hooray beeer

UWS says:

hooray beeer Budweiser

Yuck. My dad drinks Bud in cans exclusively. Stuff makes me sick.

UWS says:

Agreed. I didn’t mean to make it sound like I’m advocating consumption of Bud in any way, shape, or form!

usty says:

Ha…my friends are all beer snobs. 22 oz for $9 bottles of something that tastes like a compost heap liquified? No thank you. Gimme my ice cold Bud and I’m a happy man.

Sweet Dick Willie says:

I drink two kinds of beer = free and Budweiser.

hooray beeer Budweiser Red Stripe

UWS says:

Is Red Stripe any good? I love their ads, but I’ve never actually tried the brew….

andrew says:

I’ve had it a few times, i’m not a big beer drinker but I didn’t really mind it

Red Stripe >>>>>>>>>>> stock domestics (Bud, Miller, Coors, etc.)

UWS says:

To be fair, it’s hard to classify Bud, Miller, Coors, etc. as beer.

Touché.

(Comments wont nest below this level)

COME ON FELLAS….Red Stripe is like Fosters and Corona. The same crap as Bud but with a fancy label and import sticker on it.

Drink Guinness – It makes you strong.

http://www.guinness-storehouse.....story.aspx

Yankeegirl49 says:

Ill pass on the Guiness..give me a Killians

A.D. says:

Well the difference is Fosters isn’t actually sold in Australia, and is truly a faux import.

Red Stripe and Corona are actually sold in Jamaica and Mexico, and in the case of Red Stripe, the dominant beer available in Jamaica.

Rob in CT says:

Red Stripe is foul. It is, however, probably better than Bud, etc.

Oh, yeah, well, YOU’RE FOUL!!!

[/Jamaican drunken rage]

KW says:

I gotta say, Red Stripe is pretty darn tasty…but let’s not let this get into an internet beer snob/tough guy thing….;)

Oh please. You have plenty of time to kill your liver. No need to get started too early.

A.D. says:

Thanks mom…someone had to say it

Yankeegirl49 says:

Usually..very! I have seen people clearly in their 60’s and 70’s asked to show ID. I am always asked for ID..now I look young for my 42 years..but not THAT young, yet they ask me every time.

A.D. says:

They definitely card, they don’t exactly have trained bouncers & all the gizmos to check the IDs authenticity. Plus a 21 year old can get 2 beers at once…

they don’t exactly have trained bouncers & all the gizmos to check the IDs authenticity.

I bet they will in the new stadium. Wouldn’t be shocked at all to see those little handheld authenticators where you drop the license in and it scans the barcode…

This stadium does have a massive technology upgrade, after all.

rbizzler says:

Do you really think that they care all that much about restricting sales to minors? I mean, as long as they do their due diligence, they should be in the clear as far as liability goes. The only good a high tech carding system does is allow them to sell less beer.

A.D. says:

KW says:

It’s not really a question of liability but publicity. It’d look pretty great if a drunk 18 year old fell from the upper decks and kicked the bucket.

A.D. says:

18, 21, 45…that’s going to be massively bad regardless.

UWS says:

But it’s massively worse if the bucket-kicker turns out to be underage to boot.

KW says:

Yep, that’s all I’m sayin

A.D. says:

Kevin G. says:

Didn’t some kid fall onto the screen above home plate at the old stadium?

Gio says:

Yeah,I went to HS with him in Westchester, but he was drunk before getting to the game.

A.D. says:

The could, but I don’t know if they will care that much.

usty says:

Depends on who you’re with and how young you look. I’ve seen busy stands and vendors not caring, and one vendor who wouldn’t sell my Dad 2 beers while I was off taking a leak.

Ed says:

To me, the main appeal of the bleachers was knowing I wouldn’t have to wear a beer courtesy of the drunk behind me. It’s hard to enjoy a game when you’re sitting near a couple of drunk guys.

Unless you’re one of those drunk guys. Then, it’s tenawesome.

I attribute this change to the bad economy.

andrew says:

Can we stop worrying yet? He struck out 6 in 5.1, 2 runs… Looks like he’s pretty close to being ready.

Can we stop worrying yet?

Does the Pope shit on catholic bears in the woods?

A.D. says:

He struck out 6 in 5.1

Only 5.1 he can’t be a starter send him to teh pen!!!11!!

/Kruk-ed.

Mike Pop says:

For real, if he can only go 5.1 every game, he is not a true starter. “Joba in the rotation does the Yankees no good.

rbizzler says:

What!!111! he wasn’t throwing 100 like he did in the pen? He must be injured or Eiland screwed up his mechanics.

//Lohudded

steve (different one) says:

does this new policy make those $5 obstructed view seats a great deal or what?

Yes.

Corollary: The drunker I am, the less well I see, so the less I notice that I can’t see the whole field anyway.

This has to be one of the most idiotic rule changes the Yankees have done. Not only do we have to put up with their stupid loud mouth bul–hit. We have to witness their drunkenness the whole game. They should not be aloud into the stadium until the bottom of the 8th inning. Then at least we can enjoy a baseball game in peace. Enclose the bunch of nitwits in a bubble !!!!!

tool.

Did he really say “bul-hit”?

donttradecano says:

i think it was the ny times censors

Yankeegirl49 says:

Te best part of the whole comment is the fact that he calls them nitwits and then says they should not be “aloud” into the stadium. Hmm..who’s the nitwit there?

That guy is a real looser.

Yankeegirl49 says:

That guy is the guy my friends beat up in HS

donttradecano says:

did you post on the ny times article correcting him?

Yankeegirl49 says:

It was the Post..and yes I responded accordingly :)

donttradecano says:

post, times same thing.

and awesome

Peter says:

beer. yes. finally. thank you.

usty says:

I just hope the vendors don’t have “zones” anymore. In OYS, 3rd base half of the field only got Miller Lite and Coors Light Vendors (along with the occasional Becks guy) while 1B side had exclusively Bud Light. And just because they’re domestics doesn’t mean they “taste the same.”

Matt says:

Miller Lite, Bud Light, and Coors Light all taste exactly the same: like beer flavored water. If I had to choose between those three, though, I’d pick Bud Light.

usty says:

Well I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree. I think it’s pretty easy to tell them apart and have a preference.

Matt says:

I’m just busting balls. Those three do have distinct tastes; I just don’t particularly like them.

steve (different one) says:

everything in the old stadium was infinitely better than anything that will be in the new stadium.

therefore, the new yankee stadium will have one giant zone in which they only serve Piels.

that said, the $1000 seats will be served Chimay Blue from between the breasts of a pinstriped clad supermodel, just to rub it in the faces of the middle class.

Yankeegirl49 says:

Piels is by far the WORST beer I have ever tasted!!

usty says:

Haha…I don’t know. I’ve sucked down 40’s of Steel Reserve and St. Ides and I’m still alive. I don’t think anything can taste worse than a Steel that has warmed past barely above the freezing mark.

jsbrendog says:

no, nothing is worse than rheingold.

worst….beer…..ever……

Camo 5X Malt Liquor.

Tom Zig says:

Keystone Ice….cool can, but not so cool taste.

Sweet Dick Willie says:

Heh.

My old man (Mo rest his soul) only drank Rheingold and Piels. So those were the beers I had to pilfer as a teenager.

Gio says:

Cobra…try it or you’re missing out. Never seen it anywhere other than the Bronx (Fordham), though.
