Yankee fans and Red Sox fans are the same “animal”. Both are very passionate towards their team. The only reason for empty seats at Yankees Stadium is pricing. They’ll find the right level eventually.

Wow, I can’t say I’m pleased with this thread. Joba throwing 94.6 with a 92 AVG is good for me. His two seamer was doing wonders last night.

Joba’s biggest issue right now is location., not velocity. Also, am I just imagining that the strike zones around the league seem to have slimmed down this winter?

1. To Rich: He’s hitting the nail on the head. Eiland was brought in as the guy to work with what we used to call the Big Three. Outside of 12 Joba starts last year, his success has been….let’s just say…elusive so far.

and what opportunity did he have with Hughes last year? i kindof recall Hughes hitting the DL in April and not coming back until September.

The other alarming aspect of Joba’s game was his velocity. As the ol’ pitch f/x numbers tell us, Joba never got above 94.6 on his fastball and averaged around 92 miles per hour last night. That’s not good enough to get Major League hitters out, and it continues a trend we’ve seen since Joba left the game with a tight shoulder in the Texas heat last summer. I’m trying not to worry, but it’s hard to ignore it.

Is that some type of joke? Since when is 92 not enough fastball to get people out. I get we expect Joba to be throwing harder, but he even said how he was throwing the 2 sear to try and induce ground balls.

So far Joba has made 3 starts, none of them have been as good as we’d like, 2 of them he pitched well enough to win the game. Its his first full season starting, we will wait and see if he puts it all together after a month.
