A-Rod takes to the basepaths

By

The Yankees used light-hitting Brett Gardner to pinch hit for Cody Ransom today in the 7th with one out and the bases loaded. That tells us all we need to know about the importance of A-Rod to the team, and to that end, there is good news out of Tampa. A-Rod took a big step forward in his rehab today as he started running the bases. A-Rod, according to Bryan Hoch, ran from 1st to 2nd ten times, twice with a trainer offering resistance. He also charged slow rollers for the first time. The Yanks continue to say that May 15th is their target return date, and I continue to believe A-Rod will be back sooner than that.

First popout with a man in scoring position, and the fans will boo him. Well, the few that are there, anyway.

    Reasons to be excited:

    1) CC is not CC yet.
    2) Joba is not Joba yet.
    3) Wang really should bounce back, barring any actual injury.
    4) Cody Ransom will soon be replaced with Arod.
    5) We’re 9-6 with all the above solutions not coming to fruition yet.

    Woo!

Yo Ben, was it you that said once Al starts running the bases he would return to action after a week or so? Also, should we expect his rehab games to be in Tampa or a higher level?

    • That was my guess. I’m sticking with May 1. We’ll see.

As for the rehab, I’d have to believe he’ll be in Tampa because it’s close to the Yanks’ facility and the weather is better and more predictable down there right now than it is in the Scranton/Trenton/New York area. He needs his ABs, and the Yanks can’t afford a rainout with him.

I got tickets to the Thunder game next thursday because it’s $1 draft night to celebrate opening the picnic area. It would be badass to see A-rod and get $1 beers for 12.50 ticket. But i’m pretty sure I got a better chance of getting struck by lighting next week than that happening.
