A-Rod takes to the basepaths
ByThe Yankees used light-hitting Brett Gardner to pinch hit for Cody Ransom today in the 7th with one out and the bases loaded. That tells us all we need to know about the importance of A-Rod to the team, and to that end, there is good news out of Tampa. A-Rod took a big step forward in his rehab today as he started running the bases. A-Rod, according to Bryan Hoch, ran from 1st to 2nd ten times, twice with a trainer offering resistance. He also charged slow rollers for the first time. The Yanks continue to say that May 15th is their target return date, and I continue to believe A-Rod will be back sooner than that.

First popout with a man in scoring position, and the fans will boo him. Well, the few that are there, anyway.
Who needs aroid when you have the melk man?
Who needs aroid when you have
the melk mannick swisher?Reasons to be excited:
1) CC is not CC yet.
2) Joba is not Joba yet.
3) Wang really should bounce back, barring any actual injury.
4) Cody Ransom will soon be replaced with Arod.
5) We’re 9-6 with all the above solutions not coming to fruition yet.
Woo!
6) Teix is not Teix yet.
7) Melky’s just getting warmed up. He’ll be hitting a Bondsian .423/.583/.892 by June.
You need that hug too, don’t you Tommie?
I don’t need a hug because I never rooted against Melky.
I doubted Melky. There’s a gigantic difference.
Nobody is happier about Melky producing than me.
I’ve always said Melky would turn it around this year.
But, it is good to hear A-Rod is on track to be back. Average 6 runs a game!
Get your money out, RABers that donated, you will be paying large sums. I need to join that, though.

Jesus Christ, man, you gotta get on that!!!

“But, I’m a Joe Torre hating numbnut. If it was the Jorge Posada foundation, I would surely join.
I’m happier! I’m the president of his fan club!
Heh, you’re floating on clouds right now.
Jorge interview now. He said he didn’t like when Jeter smiled on that throwing error.
But good to hear A-Rod is coming back. Hopefully he produces at high levels all year.

Derek Jeter is bush league.
oh, I still doubt Melky. But there is absolutely no denying the fact, that he has been a different ballplayer since last years demotion.
Well good Lord people, can we at least wait until after April until making anymore judgments on Melky. Remember how he looked at this point last year? year, just how as he looks now.
Remember how he looked 3 years ago, and 2 years ago.
You’re right Zack, let’s just ignore the fact that he’s in a LOT better shape than last year. Let’s pretend that he didn’t play really well in the Winter League and Spring Training and let’s just focus on last year.
This is true.
And yes, I’m still doubting Melky too. But, if he can at least play himself into a good 4th outfielder (rather than just a passable 4th outfielder), it’s a great addition.
For now, though, I’m just riding the lactose sugar high…
I’m with ya. I’m not holding out for him to be the next Roberto Clemente.

Yup. I’ll settle for just the next Carlos Beltran, that’s fine.
Number 4 should be number 1
And we’re grinding it out and even though we get caught stealing at least we’re running and making the pitcher think, “These bastards are going to run on me.”
Wow, that was supposed to be 8 )
Heh
I cant wait to see this offense with Arod in the line-up. Yikes.
Who needs him. We have Melky.
Thank Mo that Arod will be back soon.
Mo be praised. Can I have a hallelujah?
Mosanna, Mosanna, Mosanna in the highest.
Melky > Gardner.
Just FYI: This is not the game recap thread.
When MELKY FREAKING CABRERA wins a 14-inning barnburner with a walk-off jimmy-jam, all rules are off, my friend. It’s freakin’ international waters out here, we can have all the monkey knife fights we want.
Sorry, my bad.
I hope the open thread is Ben on TV.
(fighting the urge to say something…)
YOU GOT SOMETHIN TO SAY??? SAY IT TO MY FACE
Good god, no.
I don’t know where that face has been, you degenerate fucko. Probably crawling with disease.
HA JOKES ON YOU!! My face has many leather bound books and smells of rich mahogany.
NO, BULLSHIT, ‘CAUSE I WASN’T WITH A HOOKER TODAY, HA-HA!!!
Yo Ben, was it you that said once Al starts running the bases he would return to action after a week or so? Also, should we expect his rehab games to be in Tampa or a higher level?
That was my guess. I’m sticking with May 1. We’ll see.
As for the rehab, I’d have to believe he’ll be in Tampa because it’s close to the Yanks’ facility and the weather is better and more predictable down there right now than it is in the Scranton/Trenton/New York area. He needs his ABs, and the Yanks can’t afford a rainout with him.
I got tickets to the Thunder game next thursday because it’s $1 draft night to celebrate opening the picnic area. It would be badass to see A-rod and get $1 beers for 12.50 ticket. But i’m pretty sure I got a better chance of getting struck by lighting next week than that happening.
