A-Rod’s workouts intensify

By Mike Axisa

Via PeteAbe, Alex Rodriguez took a long batting practice session in Tampa and fielded grounders on the infield dirt for the first time since having surgery on his hip. A-Rod took 75 swings, hitting a bunch of homers as you’d expect, and he also increased the intensity of his running program. It looks like he might be able to play in a rehab game within seven to ten days, and hopefully be back with the big league club a week after that. That’s just pure speculation on my part though. I hear they force prisoners in Guantanamo Bay to watch a continuous loop of Cody Ransom at-bats when they don’t cooperate during an interrogation.

That would certainly get me to talk.

I love it. I do feel tortured watching the poor guy.

I hear they loop Ransom at-bats with Scott Proctor walks (especially if there are guys on base). People talk twice as fast!

Steve H says:

Or they put them thru Proctor’s throwing regimen.

But his play is *not* torture. It’s just full of enhanced underperformance tactics.

Any time someone complains about A-Rod’s alleged lack of clutchiness or how we’d be better off without him, I want there to be an instantcodyransom.com website so that we can silence the knaves.

Cody Ransom should be tested for Performance Reducing drugs.

Yikes.

Steve H says:

A bunch of HR’s in practice. Typical A-Rod.

Tony says:

Arod’s “blessing in disguise” . I do agree with him having time off and being able to fully rehab will make him set for a dominant 2009. Look for him to be in the AL MVP running despite missing the first Month or so.

I just can’t see the yankees ride a 10 game winning streak or any kind of rythem until Tex and CC are in midseason form and Alex comes back to the line up

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

We need A-rod Asap.

LiveFromNewYork says:

We need a healthy Arod and he’s not there yet.

Arod on one leg is better than cody ransom

LiveFromNewYork says:

But Arod out for the season isn’t good at all.

Lanny says:

A-Rod with no legs is better than Ransom.

Double-J says:

Hmm. In that vein, I’m wondering if Lieutenant Dan couldn’t provide a nice boost from the hot corner. Thoughts?

Count Zero says:

ietc quite a bit

Doug says:

A-Rod with no legs pulling himself around on a cart with his arms like Porgy in Porgy and Bess is better than Ransom.

With Matsui’s knees giving him some problems, ARod could see some atbats at DH until hes 100%.

NC Saint says:

There’s probably no point now, but does anyone else wish Girardi/Cash had gone with the option of sliding Tex over to third and platooning some combination of Swish/Miranda/SlamDuncan/whoever at 1B? I realize people thought it was important to have Tex settle in at first, and it’s pretty hard to judge something like that. But it’s pretty easy to judge the effect of having two no-hit infielders on the 25-man, and at least one in the lineup every day. Plus, there would be more humor value in watching Miranda try to field than in watching Ransom try to hit.

Jack says:

What makes you think Tex can play third?

Doug says:

Where did you come up with such a preposterous hypothesis? Did Steve tell you that?

What kind of a rapping name is Steve? Steve…

NC Saint says:

The fact that he’s played it before, mostly. Not that he’s played it much, or recently, but as a terrific fielder whose played the position before, I’d feel comfortable with him manning the position until A-Rod comes back.
