CC’s new digs

By Benjamin Kabak

Don’t tell CC Sabathia the housing market is slumping. A few days after making his Yankee debut, Sabathia landed himself a $14.9 million home in Alpine, New Jersey. The mansion is a 12,000-square-foot, six-bedroom behemoth in a celebrity-filled neighborhood, and the Yankee ace paid for it in cash. I hope he’s planning on spending more than three years in it.

dkidd says:

remember chris rock on this neighborhood? “black superstars and white dentists”

El Generalissimo says:

Alpine NJ, is one of the most expensive places to live in the Country. Really expensive. one of the biggest house in the Country is also there.

steve (different one) says:

CC invented teeth!

LosingOurHeads says:

Yeah Chris lives there and about a zillion other rich people like Diddy and Mary J. Blige and the dentists. It’s nice to drive through there and see the houses.

It’s a pretty nice place and 10 miles from Manhattan though the GW traffic gets old quickly.

daneptizl says:

So what chances are you giving him for opting out, Ben?

If he stays healthy and effective, I still say good. No one with an opt-out clause has failed to either exercise it or get a better deal yet.

daneptizl says:

If we win a championship or two with him in his three years here and Felix has proven to be a better pitcher than CC, who do the Yanks take if they were both willing to pitch here.

“…and Felix has proven to be a better pitcher than CC…”

I think you just answered your own question.

daneptizl says:

Well obviously I’d go with King Felix, but I don’t know if the Yankees would rather keep CC, seeing as how he would want to stay and in order to appease the fans.

I think that, three years from now, signing young, awesome Felix would probably “appease” the fans much more than signing older, slightly less awesome CC.

daneptizl says:

I’ll tear up if we don’t get him now.

Rich says:

The real estate broker must have salivated when CC’s rent-a-car limo pulled in the lot.

I think the opt out clause is likely to inure to the Yankees’ benefit.

teix is the man says:

swish plays again 2night!

Rich says:
andrew says:

Night off for Damon?

steve (different one) says:

kindof seems like a lot of our “fears” may have been unfounded.

so far Girardi is doing exactly what he should be doing with Nady/Swisher/Damon/Matsui.

Watching Fox afternoon baseball…

Ken Rosenthal is tiny. That little sucka got no juice.

UWS says:

I was just thinking that. Is he really this midget-like?

Hah. Taco Bellsbury FAIL.

whozat says:

?? What’d he do?

UWS says:

Got picked off trying to steal 3rd.

Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

Aren’t they the Red Sox? Can’t they at least wear…..red socks?

Blue caps, blue socks, blue numbers, blue letters…

The Boston Blue Sox.

Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

Captain Tekian should try to throw like a fast pitch softball chick. It may help.

Work. Fight. Sacrifice.

Jonathan says:

yea i dont understand why they dont wear more red

Rosenthal is tiny. We saw him at the Winter Meetings. But he’s Andre the Giant compared to Timmy Kurkjian.

Dave M says:

I stood next to Kurkjian at Bradley Airport one time. I’m only 5′10″, but towered over him. He’s a skinny little dude too.

Something the Angels fans should get used to hearing this year:

“… and it falls in front of Abreu for a hit.”

Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

For $14.9 milli you figure it would at least have a lawn.

And I hear one of the bedrooms is obstructed.

Jamal G. says:
Jamal G. says:

Yo, we need a “thanks” button, or a “You Like This” tab a la Facebook.

Drew says:

Sorry to stray from the post, but I just turned on fox, does anyone know how they got one rune vs. Penny?

Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

The Red Sox just spotted the run before the game started. THEY ARE THAT GOOD!!!

Drew says:

hmm.. What I should’ve googled my question?

Drew says:

Yea dude I know. There is Gameday and Gamecast among others. I also knew several people on RAB were watching what I missed. It was a simple question, no one had to respond if they didn’t want to.

Well, if you Google “Angels score,” Google gives you a line score of the game with a link to MLB.com’s Gameday which has fully play-by-play or pitch-by-pitch info.

This thing called ESSPIN really helped.

C Figgins walked.
C Figgins stole second.
H Kendrick grounded out to second, C Figgins to third.
B Abreu grounded out to second, C Figgins scored.

Drew says:

Good for you. This whole time I thought you were from NY.
http://www.esspin.org/

pwned by my own sarcasm.

Wait, are the Angels (in addition to wearing a patch for Nick Adenhart) also wearing a patch for Charlton Heston?

Looks like a black diamond on their sleeve that says “Heston”. I’m guessing he was a part owner…

Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

That was the name of the Rally Monkey. Mark Teixeira killed him with the same pen he used when he signed with the Yankees.

No, it says “Preston,” not “Heston.” It’s for Preston Gomez, a former exec with the franchise.

Ah, thanks.

I was browsing Paul Lukas’s column to get info and just found that myself.

No worries… I actually looked it up yesterday because I couldn’t tell what it said, either.

UWS says:

The vocal stylings of Albert and Karros make me long for Buck and McCarver. Yuck.

Derek says:

fox announcers just said varitek is gonna do well offensively this year because of his pride

Drew says:

Pride>>>>>>Grit>>>>>>Ability

Jamal G. says:

Mike Napoli, I <3 you (fantasy points FTW).

Matt says:

I think I benched him today ’cause he’s not getting the bulk of ABs. I really don’t get why Mathis gets more PAs than Napoli–is there that big a difference in defense or something?

pat says:

Napoli loves you too Jamal. Another dinger.

Drew says:

I can’t wait till we face Penny.

Wow. That ball hit the wall and should have been ruled a hit, but that was still a great “catch” by Jason Bay.

Props.

Drew says:

Props to Bay? Unamerican.

What’s the point of having instant replay review if they’re never going to use it?

Matt says:

Well, was that a “boundary call” per the rules?

UWS says:

To be fair, the replays that FOX showed were somewhat inconclusive, at least to me. But you’re right.

steve (different one) says:

i thought it was only for fair/foul HR calls.

A.D. says:

Not of the Fox replays seemed particularly conclusive

Matt says:

Jason Bay plays solid defense? News to me.

He doesn’t.

Broken clock is right twice a day.

Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

What if it’s broken because the hands fell off?

RetiredFBI says:

Drew says:

Rivera shyed away from that wall like a little girl.

I was thinking “like Bobby Abreu,” but hey, same thing.

Drew says:

That fastball is straight as an arrow.

UWS says:

I *heart* Mike Napoli.

UWS says:

I love that this is all coming just as the FOX idiots were singing Penny’s praises.

Matt says:

Is it just me or does Eric Karros seem disappointed that Penny isn’t doing well?

UWS says:

It’s definitely not just you.

Matt says:

Okay, Kenny Albert. The guy’s name is Mike Lowell. Pronounce the goddamn “w.”

Holden Supertramp says:

Sweet! CC is going to be my neighbor!!!!!

Tom Zig says:

Ramon Ramirez = not teh awesome.

Torii Hunter 1, Jonathan Papeldouche 0

Kendry Morales 1, Jonathan Papeldouche 0

Who isn’t surprised that the run in the top of the 9th is now costly? Shocking.

Mike Napoli 1, Jonathan Papeldouche 0

UWS says:

Aybar 0, Jonathan Papeldouche eleventy bajilion.

But:

Chone Figgins 1, Jonathan Papeldouche 0

UWS says:

Howie Kendrick has the plate discipline of a magpie.

True, but he’s battling.

Also, I simply cannot understate how horrid those Blue Sox road unis are.

(Comments wont nest below this level)
UWS says:

Agreed, they’re hideous.

UWS says:

This is an epic AB right here…
