105 pitches through 5 for Sabathia. Not good, but he’s doing a good job keeping us in the game without his best stuff. And a nice, hard “FUCK” from his mouth on the way to the dugout.
Wow, that strikeout says it all about the crowd. He’s pumped after getting out of that jam and judging by the crowd’s reaction it could have been a groundout to first.
Wow, that strikeout says it all about the crowd. He’s pumped after getting out of that jam and judging by the crowd’s reaction it could have been a groundout to first.
Cliff Lee got rocked his first two starts. Either he’s got his 2008 Cy Young stuff back or the Yanks have got their 2008 anemic offense vs soft-tossing lefty’s stuff back…
Foreel. I havent bought a Madden for PS3 yet. Its a shame since it was my favorite game on PS2 but the last couple of years the game has downright sucked.
Just wait to see what happens if the Yanks have a nice record when A-Rod comes back and they have their first 3 game losing streak after that. Just think of most of the media in New York and B-Jobbers. It’s not like critical thinking is in their repertoire.
At least Ransom’s play will make the fools who think the Yanks are better without A-Rod shut the Hell up.

You’re dealing with, to put it bluntly, idiots. Idiots can’t be proven wrong, because they don’t listen to reason and ignore all evidence to the contrary of their predetermined narratives.
When the Mets finish in 4th place in the NL East, 18 games out, I want to go to the Sports Illustrated offices and get someone to autograph my Baseball Preview issue.
Why can’t we hit with runners in scoring position? Does anybody know what our team BA is with RISP right now? It has to be absolutely terrible. With the exception of last night’s game we I would guess it would have been hovering around the .100 line. We either hit home runs or sac flys for the most part. We couldn’t hit with RISP last year and the outcome was the nearly 200 less runs scored than the year before. It’s spilling over to this year so far…
My guess would be Albaledejo again…could be a Groundhog Day effect like the other day…only this time Wang wasn’t pitching and giving up 9 runs in an inning.
FWIW, I was perusing the Win Expectancy graph of that game again yesterday.
Girardi lifted Wang when the team was trailing 5-0 with the bases loaded and no outs. The Rays expected win percentage there was already like 97%. Meaning, throughout history, about three games out of a hundred does a team ever win that game.
Albaladejo giving up the grand slam and changing it from 5-0 to 9-0 barely made a dent in the win expectancy (like 97% to 98%). The game was effectively already over before he came in, the grand slam was rather immaterial.
For the people talking about Madden retiring, how about just replacing him in the booth with Frank Caliendo as John Madden!! His interview with David Letterman when he played John Madden the entire time is a classic, you can see it on YouTube.
Kyle Farnsworth blew another game and gave up 3 more runs in an inning last night. It seems like decent to good pitchers usually come to the Yankees and perform mediocre or terrible (Randy Johnson, Javier Vasquez, Jose Contreras, Kevin Brown, Kyle Farnsworth, etc) and then when they leave the Yankees…they continue to be mediocre or terrible…like it’s a virus haha
Because Girardi wanted to throw Coke into the fire and see if he would perform. What bigger moment than now? Hopefully Coke has just turned the corner.
hindsight is nice, what if grady hit a granny? results are the only thing at the end of the day that really matters. look at cody ransom’s “hitting the ball hard.” Lot of good it’s doing him hitting .111
C’mon everyone. It’s the bullpen. Haven’t we learned that the difference between Girardi and Torre is that Girardi won’t bury guys because of a few bad outings, thus not destroying their confidence and strengthening the BP over the long run? I LOVE that Phil didnt get sent down and I love seeing him get that out.
When 4 of the batters are Gardner, Ransom/Pena, and sometimes Molina…and even Matsui lately…it’s a miracle how games are won. It’s like having 4 pitchers bat…
Maybe not…but when he’s up my confidence level is more towards their level than Jeter or Damons (even though Damon has been on the decline this year which is easy to see)
Edwar pitched well. Ransom needs to be able to make that throw, and the groundball from Francisco just happened to be well-placed.
And kudos to Girardi for throwing Coke out there in a pressure situation against a lefty batter. That should be a real confidence builder, plus it saves Marte for the eighth.
I don’t understand how Cliff Lee gets absolutely shelled in 2 outings…and then all of the sudden he’s back to normal against the Yankees today. I’ve been at work so I haven’t been able to see it. Did he look like last year’s Cliff Lee?? Or is it what I think it is and the Yankees just aren’t hitting yet again…
Same with Sonnanstine…he gets beat up all over the place day in and day out but lately when he faces us we can’t hit him. Same with Guthrie who was shelled beyond belief in Spring Training…I could go on for hours…
Veras, it’s Mark MelanconAnthony Claggett on line 1. He says he wants to tell you have fun in AAA.
Fixed. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. We still have a few older, more veteran prospects in front of Melancon who can be brought up without requiring a 40-man move.
I disagree. Claggett isn’t anywhere near Melancon. Melancon is working guys over left and right. I understand the 40 man issue, but is how much longer is that going to keep Melancon in the minors when it’s clear he is dominating down there?
The Yankees anemic numbers with RISP position today might come back to bite them, especially with this situation. Somehow, Veras needs to make some magic happen.
Jose Veras had like 9 strike outs in his first 5 innings in Spring Training if I remember correctly…then the real season comes up and it’s time to bunker down…
I have no idea why this man still has a spot on our roster. He walks the world and when he does throw a fastball, it gets hit. While I support every single man in pinstripes, the moment I see this guy on the mound, I cringe and can’t help but be pissed.
Yeah, look, the pen just gave up 9 RUNS! It doesn’t matter if Joba would’ve pitching this inning, the fact that he moves everyone except Mo’ an inning forward changes the game alone. How many of these games do you guys need to prove it?
BTW, if he can affect the outcome of 80+ games, especially in the A.L east, then it’s definitely a good move, especially when considering the fact that he’s on pitch limits and might be sharing some starts with Phil Hughes, oh wait, Phil Hughes? Maybe he can be our fifth starter?
I hate our bullpen every year…it’s the same old story. Some random bum who one of the managers has a soft spot for gets thrown in there constantly and gets beaten around like a rag doll everytime at least it seems…then you look at their numbers at the end of the year and they’re not great but they’re mediocre…doesn’t make sense…it’s the times like these I guess…
It doesn’t make sense because the human memory is selective and emotional.
You tend to ignore the good work the bullpen does the frequent times they don’t allow runs, but focus on the infrequent times they do allow runs. That’s why you feel like the bullpen is weaker than it actually is.
WE. ARE. FINE. This does not change the fact that our bullpen is in fact still a strength and not a weakness.
7 hits…1 run. I remember the other day we had 9 hits and 1 run. But we ended up scoring a few more runs after that so it was ruined. At least we’re kind of consistent…
Looks like a huge inning for the Indians. The Yankees didn’t do it so far with RISP. The Indians are getting most of their runners home. Looking like a rough day for the ‘pen.
When you have 7 hits and 1 run to show for it…and your bullpen is the worst in baseball…it’s time to turn the channel and see if there are some good cartoons on
When you have 7 hits and 1 run to show for it…and your bullpen is the worst in baseball…it’s time to turn the channel and see if there are some good cartoons on
I’m sorry, I’m trying to be nice, but if you really think our bullpen is the “worst in baseball” you have no earthly concept of how baseball works. Go watch cartoons and don’t come back with your ridiculous negativity.
Exactly when would it be OK to call him up then? He’s going to need a spot on the 40 man at some point. Claggett and Jackson are not better than Melancon. Not close. At what point of the year are you proposing that it’s OK to put him on the 40 man? I’m all for 40 man issues and developing the kids, but the goal is to win at the big league level and Melancon is the goods. He has to be added at some point. I’m just asking when you propose to do that.
Our bullpen last year was a fluke. It’s a bunch of no name guys who ended up performing pretty well last year. Gambling on them doing the same exact thing again was incredibly stupid. I wouldn’t be surprised if the bullpen is like this for the rest of the season (outside of Rivera and sometimes Bruney)
MOST good ‘pens are “no name guys”. Relievers are VERY volatile from year to year in general (with Mo and few others being the EXCEPTION to the proven rule). This is why we have MANY arms in AAA. RELAX!
I know there has been alot of stuff written about the camera being behind the net behind home plate, but I havent really noticed it much. Maybe cause its a day game you dont notice it much.
Ill tell you one thing, dont know how many of you have seen the behind the plate view in the new Nationals Stadium, but that is horrible. The view is so high above the field its pathetic.
Well at least Sizemore is on my fantasy team. Dont know why I wanted Marte to face him in the 6th….
I am so mad right now. THe bullpen looks pathetic today. Veras is a piece of shit. Walking the leadoff guy on 4 pitches is INEXCUSABLE in a tie ball game. Bring on Mark Melanon
Girardi has done it again… he has no clue about his relief pitchers whAT THE F***
Marte is absolutely useless… has been ever since he came to N.y. HELP
Wow if posada was ashamed of the loss to the Rays whats he think about being slaughtered at the home opener by a team that came in at 2-7. Welcome home boys…you still are under performing!!
did i mention that ronan tynan is completely cheesy, and pains my ears? and now he has artsy german architect glasses. somebody please boo this guy along with our bullpen….
I was being a smartass. I can understand you’re confidence in our offense today though. I mean scoring 1 through 6 with 3 guys on every inning is good. We should have no problem scoring 8 more.
Then stop watching. It’s fair weather fans like you that cause the rest of this country to hate Yankee fans. I’m sure if it was the other way around you’d be shouting as loud as you can that the Yankees are the best. You’re a f’n douche.
In the last 10 games, the pen has blown two games (the game in KC being the other one.) You can even go as far to say three, if you consider Coke giving up the homer in Baltimore. A 70-80% hold rate just won’t do it.
Not the way the Yanks wanted to christen the new digs. But there’s still 152 games left, and plenty games to erase this performance.
Incase anyone misses it:
Yeah, look, the pen just gave up 9 RUNS! It doesn’t matter if Joba would’ve pitching this inning, the fact that he moves everyone except Mo’ an inning forward changes the game alone. How many of these games do you guys need to prove it?

105 pitches through 5 for Sabathia. Not good, but he’s doing a good job keeping us in the game without his best stuff. And a nice, hard “FUCK” from his mouth on the way to the dugout.
Lets score a few runs here and give the win to CC!
We’ll if Tex could get a god damn hit!
Bill R. has been a fountain of optimism. Are you sure you’re not Steve Lombardi?
Jorge just got a hit w/o RISP.
So I guess that run doesn’t count, according to your logic.
Wow, that strikeout says it all about the crowd. He’s pumped after getting out of that jam and judging by the crowd’s reaction it could have been a groundout to first.
Wow, that strikeout says it all about the crowd. He’s pumped after getting out of that jam and judging by the crowd’s reaction it could have been a groundout to first.
sorry about that. dont know why it sent twice.
Mike A I’m holding you to that…
WOW! what a surprise he K’d!!!!
Tex’s wrist is bothering him. He shook it after both foul balls.
So much for Tex snapping out of his April slumps.
At least he’s god a history of finishing strong.
I lot Roberson and all, but why wasn’t a LONGMAN called up (Tomko/Aceves) and Alby/Coke sent down with Miranda to replace Nady?
…one run. Please? Just one?
Thanks Jorge!
you got it
Whos pitching the 6th?
CC.
Somebody jack this fool!
THANK YOU JORGE!! HIP HIP!
We suck!
Or not!
I stand corrected! GO JORGE!!!!!
Hip Hip…
JORGE!
HIP HIP
HIP HIP!!!
Order has been restored.
Posada better smile after this
Blasphemy!!!
That’s bush league.
Jorge!
Jorge!!
Cliff Lee got rocked his first two starts. Either he’s got his 2008 Cy Young stuff back or the Yanks have got their 2008 anemic offense stuff back…
Cliff Lee got rocked his first two starts. Either he’s got his 2008 Cy Young stuff back or the Yanks have got their 2008 anemic offense vs soft-tossing lefty’s stuff back…
Fixed.
now the whiners could shut up?
Please!
I asked for one run, I got my one run, I’m good (for now) =)
Rebecca, you not a whiner. you a supporter!
Most of the crowd didnt realize the Yankees scored since they were too busy checking the Stock Market.
IETC.
JoMo with the last and Jorge with the first.
weird both catchers
Peeing on your hands >>>>>>>> Being the 2008 AL Cy Young winner
Did cano just take 4 balls?
Cano’s not only hitting well, but working the count so far this year. Me likey.
Way to work the count Robbie! I’m shocked.
Imagine if Cano had some protection.
Im pretty sure he wears a cup.
ietc.
Thanks. I’ll be here all week….
Remember to tip your waitress.
I can’t wait to see JOBA! tomorrow.
WOW, YES on cue.
Question: Was Robinson Cano “down” enough last year to be the Comeback Player of the Year?
Because he’s going to be the best second baseman in all of baseball this year. THE. BEST. Book it.
Because he’s going to be the best second baseman in all of baseball this year. THE. BEST. Book it.
I sure hope so, and so does my fantasy team.
Dunno methinks Ian Kinsler is leading right now…
Confidence level = 10
I think he was down enough, but right now Posada would beat him out for the award.
wow, Mats actually hustled.
He always does, it’s just that his knees usually don’t cooperate.
I had to delete my anti-Matsui post. Go Godzilla!
So I am watching a Chinese version of the game and their home run call is “Hasta La Vista.”
that is AWESOME!
Haha look at the PRESSURE Hideki puts on infielders with his blinding speed! 2 out rally time.
Also, is anyone warming up? I feel like pulling CC might be a good idea. Appreciate his effort today, but still.
Ransom SUCKS!!!
How is it even any fun for you?
Because if i think we’re so bad when we do good stuff it’s extra special!
So you bang your head against the wall because it feels so good when you stop>
John Madden has retired from broadcasting. http://tinyurl.com/djd9jc
… And I think I have retired from buying his game every damn year.
Foreel. I havent bought a Madden for PS3 yet. Its a shame since it was my favorite game on PS2 but the last couple of years the game has downright sucked.
And I think I have retired from buying his game every damn year.
Why? There’s no comp for it.
You know who had a real good wedding? Brett Favre.
Madden couldn’t face life in the NFL without Favre.
I E T C
I loved him broadcasting and I’ve bought his game every year since I had Sega. I think Madden 93 or 94 was the first.
Ransom sucks
Gameday had him making the out on a changeup way outside the zone. Is that right?
it was a little low, but it didn’t look horrendous. What looked horrendous was how far out in front of it he was.
more stranded runners. shocking.
At least Ransom’s play will make the fools who think the Yanks are better without A-Rod shut the Hell up.
Thank Mo.
I’d rather they be disproved by an MVP season by Arod not a fucking terrible one by ransom without him
You’re a real joy.
Seriously, someone give that guy a hug
Bill, if I were to give you some money from out of my wallet, would that help ease the pain?
There are still people who think that!?!?!
Just wait to see what happens if the Yanks have a nice record when A-Rod comes back and they have their first 3 game losing streak after that. Just think of most of the media in New York and B-Jobbers. It’s not like critical thinking is in their repertoire.

Seeing as how they thought that with wanton disregard for mountains of evidence before, they’re not going to abandon their position based on Ransom’s suckitude now.
You’re dealing with, to put it bluntly, idiots. Idiots can’t be proven wrong, because they don’t listen to reason and ignore all evidence to the contrary of their predetermined narratives.
“You can’t fix stupid.” – Ron White
But now they can see it with their eyes! That at least gives some hope.
I hope this guy has no relation to James Dolan, I wouldnt want to curse out a bishop.
First interview with a bishop at the new stadium. These are moments I tune in for.
I like the stretching out of CC here, dont know why. He seems one of those who likes the workload, and might respond to it. Pure conjecture.
CC likes to the discipline? You’re saying he likes to be punished?
They completed what they finished? Nice one Singy.
Ransom saved a run with his glove earlier, started the game winning rally last night….you guys need to lower your expectations.
A-Rod will be back in 2-3 weeks.
I can’t wait.
We should have Aramis Ramirez as Alex’s back up.
Ransom is at .107/.167/.179 – if he’s met anyone’s expectations, then those are some seriously poor expectations.
Shit the Marlins won again. Swept the Braves and are now 8-1.
Marlins look legit…Uggla is en fuego, and Bonifacio is really helping. It’s all about pitching though, and johnson and volstad are a nice combo.
When the Mets finish in 4th place in the NL East, 18 games out, I want to go to the Sports Illustrated offices and get someone to autograph my Baseball Preview issue.
I shall join you.
5 walks and 5 hits but only 1 run? Wow C.C. has lady luck on his side
*knocks on wood*
Yeah, well where’s Lady Luck’s bat?
Why can’t we hit with runners in scoring position? Does anybody know what our team BA is with RISP right now? It has to be absolutely terrible. With the exception of last night’s game we I would guess it would have been hovering around the .100 line. We either hit home runs or sac flys for the most part. LET’S F$#%#$% HIT FELLAS!!!!
I agree
before today, hitting .260/.313/.507
not great, but not terrible.
.256-.312-.488 w/ RISP scoring position coming into today, 6th best in the AL.
Even if you hit .333 with RISP, that’s still only one hit every three times up.
Even if you hit .333 with RISP, that’s still only one hit every three times up.
You just blew my mind.
Perhaps not having the best offensive player in the game has its effect on a lineup.
You know, with a patient Oakland lineup due up next for CC, I don’t much like the heavy workload today.
They weren’t too danm patient with wakefield…
Knuckleballs don’t count. Hit ‘em when you can.
Yeah C.C! Why is giardi pulling him!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
It’s TONY F’N GRAFANINININININIO
120+ pitches
122 pitches in his third start?
Because he pitched over 500 innings the past 2 years…
who cares he could throw one down the middle and the guy would hit a dribbler to short. Now he is no longer in line to try for a win
Now he is no longer in line to try for a win
Which means… nothing.
when he’s the highest paid pitcher in baseball he BETTER GET WINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m not going to fully respond to that because you have shown yourself to be an illogically screaming lunatic.
because he has 120+ pitches?
120+ pitches. In April. 250+ inn last 2 years, tired in playoffs. Lets not repeat history, let him be fresh for October for a change.
please not edwar in a 1-1 game
Good call.
Hard to believe CC only gave up one run!
Good job by CC, really kept things in control when he needed to. Not his best stuff today
Not a good day for CC’s WHIP, but at least his ERA was solid.
Yikes, can’t say I like this move.. Hope I’m wrong though.
what move? who should he bring in?
I was just talking about going to the bullpen with Graff up.
you can’t let CC go 130 pitches…i probably would have pulled him before Shoppach.
True, I was just saying my opinion, who knows, it might have taken one pitch. It’s not a big deal.
Well, maybe it is now.
My guess would be Albaledejo again…could be a Groundhog Day effect like the other day…only this time Wang wasn’t pitching and giving up 9 runs in an inning.
FWIW, I was perusing the Win Expectancy graph of that game again yesterday.

Over a hundred games its not much but when you talk about hundreds of thousands games played its a significant amount.
5 walks? 122 pitches? Damn. At least its tied.
Who’s in there for relief? I shake with literally anybody except Rivera…
so is CC’s start considered a “quality start” though he went five and two-thirds innings?
no.
which is silly, since one more out, but 2 more runs is.
Considering 6inn is a prerequisite, NO.
Six innings in the minimum for a quality start.
Anyone just see CC with the tobacco?
dude that was a HUGE dip he was putting in
For the people talking about Madden retiring, how about just replacing him in the booth with Frank Caliendo as John Madden!! His interview with David Letterman when he played John Madden the entire time is a classic, you can see it on YouTube.
Jesus Ransom
HE SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!
ZOMG how did Tex win teh Gold Glove?!?!?
Good Mo Ransom sucks.
Ha. Cody Ransom is going to do the impossible and make the dummy Yankee fans actually miss A-Rod.
Hey Girardi remembered he had Edwar Ramirez on the team.
Say this about Giambi, he could scoop with the best of em!
Except that one would have wound up in the stands.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!! WE ARE TERRIBLE!!!
Please stop with the caps. We don’t ask for much.
http://riveraveblues.com/river.....uidelines/
Sorry Mike I didn’t realize i had caps on
saved a run
Kyle Farnsworth blew another game and gave up 3 more runs in an inning last night. It seems like decent to good pitchers usually come to the Yankees and perform mediocre or terrible (Randy Johnson, Javier Vasquez, Jose Contreras, Kevin Brown, Kyle Farnsworth, etc) and then when they leave the Yankees…they continue to be mediocre or terrible…like it’s a virus haha
Javier Vasquez should be removed from that list.
Nice range by Robbie, Jeter’s gotta hold that.
I think he was going to be safe either way, but a nice play by Robbie
Stop futzing around in the field damn it!
Shit, I’m gonna need some coke
I can’t believe I had a doctor’s appointment today. Of all days………..
Coke better not fuck this up
Uhh ohh. Phil Coke? shit
{FACEPALM}
WTF Coke again??? Why not Marte damnit!!
It’s the 5th inn. Marte is for the 7/8th.
It’s the 6th
Oops LOL
It’s the 5th inn. Marte is for the 7/8th.
Sorry, but that’s dumb. Marte is a better pitcher than Coke, he should be in here. This is the immediate, more critical game situation.
It may well be a laugher by the 7th/8th.
I hope sizemore hits a grand slam! Giardi sucks. C.C. would have gotten Tony G out and we’d be batting by now.
Really? Seriously, really?
You are the worst kind of fan
I don’t even consider Bill R. a fan of the Yanks. He is, however, a fan of illogical ranting.
Edwar should have had him out too, that’s not Ransom, not Girardi.
C.C. would have gotten Tony G out and we’d be batting by now.
but Edwar got Tony G “out”.
the guy made an error.
you are starting to sound like a lunatic.
Get out of the tub and step away from the toaster.
No, don’t stop him, he’s a grownup, he can make his own life choices.
Judging by the way he’s acting, I’m assuming he’s 12 and this his first day on a computer. He’s a cutie though.
For a cutie, his act is damn sure not cute.
Obviously I’m not serious. It just frustrates me.
Your manner of frustration is frustrating to others.
Dude, first you say we suck, then Ransom sucks, now your rooting against us, why are you here?
Not Phil Coke !
This could get ugly.
catch the damn ball jeter
Here comes a Granny Smith from Tom Sizemore…
I’ve never liked Edwar Ramirez…Bill R, this is your boy though. He’s awful.
Coke don’t suck
Phil Coke, everybody.
Phil Coke in to face Grady Sizemore, I’m scared.
Honestly why not Marte??? What you are holding him back to face Sizemore in the 8th?? I think it is pretty important to get him out now.
Well nevermind, Girardi is a genius.
don’t forget that Bruney is probably unavailable.
that means Marte has the 8th.
but you have a point. now is probably the most important time.
Because Girardi wanted to throw Coke into the fire and see if he would perform. What bigger moment than now? Hopefully Coke has just turned the corner.
sucks for Edwar, he pitched well and got nothing for it
Except that he and the coaches know that he pitched well.
hindsight is nice, what if grady hit a granny? results are the only thing at the end of the day that really matters. look at cody ransom’s “hitting the ball hard.” Lot of good it’s doing him hitting .111
His mom says he’s good.
Thank you Coke.
pepsi’s for losers
Thank Mo!
Joe Girardi is a genius lol
If this isn’t a showing of confidence to Phil Coke, I don’t know what is. Here is to hoping he does very well.
+1.
Not how I would have done it, but it showed great faith, hopefully Coke builds on this.
excuse me while i get my oxygen tank…
YAY!! love the flip down glasses! Coke make a me happy
Phew… now lets get the bats going.
Alright fellas, just got home. How are we doing so far?!
Turn on your TV and find out LOL
1-1.
just what you’d expect from 2 CYA winners squaring off.
Swisher will break the tie…
He got the out, see?
C’mon everyone. It’s the bullpen. Haven’t we learned that the difference between Girardi and Torre is that Girardi won’t bury guys because of a few bad outings, thus not destroying their confidence and strengthening the BP over the long run? I LOVE that Phil didnt get sent down and I love seeing him get that out.
Remember Proctor, guys?
Doc Proc
Time for the offense to do it’s job.
Hey Arod hit 3 hr’s during a 49 swing batting practice today. Only 3, he sucks lets keep Ransom….
yeah! he should have hit 51 HRs. Damn it!
swisher would have
50 push ups, gardner
thats gonna put cokes wpa off the charts
http://www.fangraphs.com/livew.....=290416110
actually, it didnt do that much!
And once again, no one wants to work the count.
I thought this too, then I looked at Lee’s PC, its 110. we obviously are taking some pitches.
Honestly they should really make Gardner do 20 push-ups like Willie Mays Hayes did every time he hits a ball in the air.
seriously haha
agreed.
Honestly they should really make Gardner do 20 push-ups like Willie Mays Hayes did every time he hits a ball in the air.
Gardner: “You ever play roulette? Always bet on white.“
That guys shirt has Teixeira spelt wrong
Heh, I saw it too. Hilarious.
“TEIXERIA”
Man, This offense can’t do much today…
this game has been painful to watch
Who thinks Damon will ground out to second?
When 4 of the batters are Gardner, Ransom/Pena, and sometimes Molina…and even Matsui lately…it’s a miracle how games are won. It’s like having 4 pitchers bat…
It’s so painful to watch
Gardner is not in Ransom/Molina’s category.
Maybe not…but when he’s up my confidence level is more towards their level than Jeter or Damons (even though Damon has been on the decline this year which is easy to see)
Yes, easy to see after 9 games.
Tell me about it.
They’re scoring 5.5 runs a game. 7th in baseball, lets relax folks.
I wonder who will pitch the seventh?
Coke will stay out there
The Hot Dog Vendor in the bleachers
bleed it out on the speakers for Johnny? I liked the Rays’ music
that should do it for Lee, that’s the good news i guess.
Except for the fact the Yankees can’t hit Betancourt.
Veras scares me… Dude has the stuff, just wish he learned how to command his pitches.
Good grief, with the matchups. Just leave Coke out there dammit.
Agreed.
This game could easily, easily end up in extra innings. Coke isn’t remotely gassed and he’s not a LOOGY, let him go.
Oh Mo, my heart can’t take Veras pitching meaningful innings.
What a shocker, Veras didnt come close to throwing a strike to the leadoff hiter.
veras has such good control…
Does Jose Veras have any idea whatsoever where he’s throwing it.
wow that “ball” 4 was right down the middle
veras must have slept with the umps wife
Damnit Veras
Just… wow.
Veras looking like the new Krazy Kyle for 2009?
Beautiful. This bullpen, its feast or famine.
Well, who didn’t see that one coming.
I really dislike Veras. Sorry for mentioning it every game but my frustration grows..
Same with Guthrie who was shelled beyond belief in Spring Training…I could go on for hours…
he had basically the same line as CC and was just as lucky to only give up one run. It’s not like he was stellar, at all.
Do you expect Wang to go 1 inning in his next outing?
Every team always plays like it is the 7th game of the world series when they play the Yankees.
Wow that’s a bad pitch from Jose.
Veras, it’s Mark Melancon on line 1. He says he wants to tell you have fun in AAA.
Veras, it’s
Mark MelanconAnthony Claggett on line 1. He says he wants to tell you have fun in AAA.Fixed. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. We still have a few older, more veteran prospects in front of Melancon who can be brought up without requiring a 40-man move.
I disagree. Claggett isn’t anywhere near Melancon. Melancon is working guys over left and right. I understand the 40 man issue, but is how much longer is that going to keep Melancon in the minors when it’s clear he is dominating down there?
wow what a fucking shocker. i hate veras.
This just sets it up for a game winning bottom of the 9th hit.
Sure play the infield back, with the way the offense is rolling today no need to prevent the run from scoring, its only the 7th inning.
if joba was pitching the 8th inning, then bruney would pitch the 7th and then we would never loose a game .
besides the one that the replacment starter pitches
The Yankees anemic numbers with RISP position today might come back to bite them, especially with this situation. Somehow, Veras needs to make some magic happen.
Jose Veras had like 9 strike outs in his first 5 innings in Spring Training if I remember correctly…then the real season comes up and it’s time to bunker down…
wow melancon, 2 batters, 2 strikeouts; keeping it going
That umpire is such an asshole.
Shoulda been strike 3. But you dont get the calls when you dont throw strikes.
Veras is pretty awful, but he has been squeezed a bit.
I can’t see the game, but I’m going to assume that Veras hasn’t made things incredibly difficult for the ump, based on his track record.
Well, the bright side is that this hopefully gets Veras out of a trusted role and they will not hesitate to send him down.
What else is new? Veras sucks.
Great, just great. Ump doesn’t want to call strikes and we have to lose because of that.
I wouldn’t say we have lost. Umm its the top of the 7th. I think games go 9 innings, I could be wrong though.
Ver-ASS
VERAS!! YOU ASS!
-bleak laughter-
I have no idea why this man still has a spot on our roster. He walks the world and when he does throw a fastball, it gets hit. While I support every single man in pinstripes, the moment I see this guy on the mound, I cringe and can’t help but be pissed.
I bet Girardi uses Marte for one damn hitter.
Joba to the Pen, and I’m serious
Still mind-numbingly stupid.
No, Jose Veras allowing two runs here does not make it any smarter. Nothing will make it any smarter. Nothing.
He wouldn’t even be in this game.
“You can’t fix stupid.”
Even IF Joba were in the ‘pen, he’d only pitch the 8th inn WITH A LEAD. So VerASS still would’ve sucked today genius.
How about we get move CC to the pen. His strong 5 2/3 is obviously pointless. He would serve us much better in the pen.
and if Joba gave up two runs as a reliever?
Yeah, look, the pen just gave up 9 RUNS! It doesn’t matter if Joba would’ve pitching this inning, the fact that he moves everyone except Mo’ an inning forward changes the game alone. How many of these games do you guys need to prove it?
BTW, if he can affect the outcome of 80+ games, especially in the A.L east, then it’s definitely a good move, especially when considering the fact that he’s on pitch limits and might be sharing some starts with Phil Hughes, oh wait, Phil Hughes? Maybe he can be our fifth starter?
veras is complete fuckin garbage. thats the game. we’ll strand 3 or 4 more the final 3 innings and that will be that.
Did you watch the yankees last year? our bullpen was one of the best last year
but dont let facts get in the way of bind hate
It doesn’t make sense because the human memory is selective and emotional.
You tend to ignore the good work the bullpen does the frequent times they don’t allow runs, but focus on the infrequent times they do allow runs. That’s why you feel like the bullpen is weaker than it actually is.
WE. ARE. FINE. This does not change the fact that our bullpen is in fact still a strength and not a weakness.
As long as Giraridi stops using VerASS.
342 + 286 = 628
don’t think we’re getting to 1,000
Sure Veras sucks. Everybody not named Girardi knows that. That being said, he struck out Peralta and the ump just didn’t want to call it.
Man, if you’re going to hit someone get your money’s worth.
“we’ll strand 3 or 4 more the final 3 innings and that will be that.”
I’m saying bases loaded for the next 3 innings, every time with nobody out. And no runs will score.
Wow, that was a questionable decision.
Oh just awful, there’s the ball game.
This game is turning into a joke.
Hey guys sorry I’ve been ranting and raving. It just upsets me when this team that I love so dear struggles.
ONE bad game does not equal “struggles”. Get down off the ledge.
Just … wow.
Game, set and match.
unbelieveable.
7 hits…1 run. I remember the other day we had 9 hits and 1 run. But we ended up scoring a few more runs after that so it was ruined. At least we’re kind of consistent…
Here come the B-Jobbers …
Which is funny, because Joba wouldn’t be in this game, the same thing would have happened.
No kidding. We would have to get past the 7th, which we didn’t today.
They’re like roaches.
No, wait:
They’re
likeroaches. This might be the worst opening day of a new stadium in the history of stadiums. Not just baseball, I mean in any sport. In the entire world.
You know, we still have 9 outs left. And the Indians bullpen isn’t all that good, it’s worse than ours.
nice fucking game against the 2-6 indians after yesterday. i knew it was too good to be true.
Looks like a huge inning for the Indians. The Yankees didn’t do it so far with RISP. The Indians are getting most of their runners home. Looking like a rough day for the ‘pen.
Whenever something doesn’t go perfectly the same like five people come out and bitch.
You get get very old very fast.
It’s pretty embarrassing when you’re the Yankees and you lose your grand opening and home opener…let alone to a team who started 1-6…
Not really, unfortunate, but not really embarrassing at all.
I didn’t realize the game was over.
Worst in baseball? Really?!
Am I the only one that knows the length of baseball games. Seriously, everyone calling this game a loss is ridiculous.
Can we call it a loss now?
I believe there are 3 half innings left for our offense. So.. No.
Mark Melancon, you might as well start driving to NYC now.
He’s NOT COMING.
He’s not on the 40-man, and there’s two other high-quality arms who are on the 40-man that we’d call up before him for that purpose.
This “CALL UP MELANCON NOW” concept is really starting to bug me.
i hope igawa isnt one of those arms
Exactly when would it be OK to call him up then? He’s going to need a spot on the 40 man at some point. Claggett and Jackson are not better than Melancon. Not close. At what point of the year are you proposing that it’s OK to put him on the 40 man? I’m all for 40 man issues and developing the kids, but the goal is to win at the big league level and Melancon is the goods. He has to be added at some point. I’m just asking when you propose to do that.
After I’ve had a look at Jackson and Claggett to see how good they really are.
Certainly not before the ASB. No need for Melancon before then.
Lets get a DP and get outta this inning… We can come back from 3.
8?
i would love to see a game without infield-fly rule
Until it burned the Yanks and you flipped out.
We get it. You don’t like the bullpen. Stop posting every two god damn second.
MOST good ‘pens are “no name guys”. Relievers are VERY volatile from year to year in general (with Mo and few others being the EXCEPTION to the proven rule). This is why we have MANY arms in AAA. RELAX!
Fuck man… You gotta at least throw strikes and let the defense play… well… defense.
Hey at least we have Marte for what, 2 more years?!
in marte’s defense, gameday has all 5 pitches he threw in that sequence firmly in the strike zone…
I’ve noticed that Gameday has about 80% of pitches “in the strike zone” this year though.
Ouch
Well there’s the grand slam i asked for from Grady the other inning. Mo is punishing me
I know there has been alot of stuff written about the camera being behind the net behind home plate, but I havent really noticed it much.
Melancon
that was Marte, no?
and that my friends, will be ballgame…
Mike your thread headline jinxed it!!!
yup
He’s in there to get lefties out, right? Just checking.
Heh, the two kids standing next to the dude who threw the ball back were like, “Dude, what the fuck are you doing?!”
Wow. At least the fan threw it back in. Maybe we can get him to pitch the rest of the 7th.
We still need to finish the game. wow
This game…….
Please send Veras to MiLB. I could care less about the 40 man.
9 to 1, a real fan would turn the game off and go watch arrested development on dvd.
No. REAL fans don’t quit on their team. Especially during the first game in The New Yankee Stadium. METS fans turn off the game and watch DVD’s.
welp thats it see ya guys
Give me a fucking break
swisher to pitch again!!!!
I’d leave Marte out there, he deserves to be embarassed further.
I think Swisher needs to be brought in to finish this game.
I kinda don’t like Damaso Marte anymore.
He’ll be fine.
Official News Out of the Bullpen: If your name isn’t Bruney or Rivera… you suck!
wow, veras and marte will live in infamy. they’ve tainted the new palace.
bad karma for the new yankee $tadium…..
Uhhh. No. Just no.
Where’s Swisher?
This is quite a meltdown.
Girardi has done it again… he has no clue about his relief pitchers
Marte is absolutely useless… has been ever since he came to N.y. HELP
Wrong.
Love it.
We want.. What? what are the fans yelling? Did anyone catch that?
Heh, love the “We want Swish-er clap clap clapclapclap” chant
Oh, that’s what they were chanting.
What was the crowd chanting????
i think it was “we want our money back,” which is pretty hilarious if that’s what they said. ha.
Well the word is out. The Yankees’ bullpen blows in 09′
Actually it’s Little Giradi fault
k..i think this is the perfect time for me to go to the bathroom…NO POLICE TO USHER ME OUT IN MY OWN HOME!
i love this dude! so much better than kate smith
ZOMG all teh negativity!1!!1!! our offense is so good we will catch up!!!!!!111!
TOMM.
I wish pettitte could have brought yesterdays performance into todays game opening the stadium. whatever
Girardi has done it again… he has no clue about his relief pitchers whAT THE F***
Marte is absolutely useless… has been ever since he came to N.y. HELP
Right, he wasn’t a catcher or anything. He has no idea about relief pitchers. Maybe you should manage since you are all knowing.
but drew, why would you bring a guy that isnt fond of throwing strikes into a close game?
shit you know i bet girardi totally forget that
Holy fuck that was painful.
Wow if posada was ashamed of the loss to the Rays whats he think about being slaughtered at the home opener by a team that came in at 2-7. Welcome home boys…you still are under performing!!
Veras and Marte ’09 = Farnsworth and Vizcaino ’08
I know this sucks but come on.
Ronan Tynan’s voice makes me want to be a better human being.
Jesus the music is loud. You guys weren’t kidding about the new sound system being cranked to 11.
did i mention that ronan tynan is completely cheesy, and pains my ears? and now he has artsy german architect glasses. somebody please boo this guy along with our bullpen….
At least Veras comes cheap, Marte is getting paid a lot to serve up walks, hit batsmen and grand slams.
Hey – if they put up a nine-spot, so can we, right?
No, didn’t you read above, the games over through 6 and a half.
no, it is officially over.
http://www.fangraphs.com/livew.....=290416110
I watch baseball on a TV not on an excel spreadsheet buddy.
I was being a smartass. I can understand you’re confidence in our offense today though. I mean scoring 1 through 6 with 3 guys on every inning is good. We should have no problem scoring 8 more.
Wrong. Not with this hitting. when you have 4 pitchers on your team in your batting order…odds are not in your favor…
really? name em
Hahahaha. This game is absolutely embarrassing. This 2-6 team is coming in the brand new Yankee Stadium and smearing the Yankees faces into the dirt.
How about this for trivia in the future? Which team beat the Yankees in their grand home opening? What was their record? LOL
This is ridiculous.
Dude, are you really judging a team based on their record in the second week of the season?
your ridiculous. losses happen you do know that right?
Then stop watching. It’s fair weather fans like you that cause the rest of this country to hate Yankee fans. I’m sure if it was the other way around you’d be shouting as loud as you can that the Yankees are the best. You’re a f’n douche.
mohegan sun is to foxwoods as veras is to to bruney
Its a good thing the Yankees didnt open the new Yankee Stadium as bad as the Mets opened up Citi Field.
Woof.
Where is Melancon when you need him?
This is the Baseball Mo’s way of giving JOBA! the first Victory at The New Yankee Stadium.
Who knows, maybe the Yanks will come back…
Incase anyone misses it:
Yeah, look, the pen just gave up 9 RUNS! It doesn’t matter if Joba would’ve pitching this inning, the fact that he moves everyone except Mo’ an inning forward changes the game alone. How many of these games do you guys need to prove it?
BTW, if he can affect the outcome of 80+ games, especially in the A.L east, then it’s definitely a good move, especially when considering the fact that he’s on pitch limits and might be sharing some starts with Phil Hughes, oh wait, Phil Hughes? Maybe he can be our fifth starter?
“You can’t fix stupid.”
Fuck you, fucking tard
Stop the personal attacks. One warning.
Incorrect. Joba belongs in the rotation. Not debatable.
Very true. But what about putting Burnett out there for the 8th inning and using Joba in the 7th. CC would be absolutely filthy as the long reliever.
The most egregious offense from B-Jobbers is that they think that Joba is unhittable in the bullpen and will allow no runs.
look at melky! workign counts
Wow that was painful even in sporadic monitoring via Gameday at work. Glad I didn’t stay home to watch that.
Is ritual murder of the bullpen followed by ritual suicide an option?
on the bright side we still have 9 outs to work with.
I dont think this game will end 9-1
It most certainly won’t. It’s already 10-1.
Math = Fail.
You’re right…it’s going to end 10-1
Is Melky wearing 53 because he missed Abreu?
Melky’s D + Bobby’s bat = 1 good OF
melky + abreu super player>>>>gardner
What’s funny is that we have 7 hits and 1 run in the entire game…the Indians in that INNING had 5 hits and 9 runs LOL
What a F’ing joke
If you mention the 7 hits + 1 run thing one more time, you’re banned. You don’t need to say it every 2 minutes, we got the point the first time.
Hey Axl, how many hits and runs do we have in the entire game again? I’m not baiting…
fail.
PLEASE do it again!
Don’t worry, the baseball gods wil take care of the Yanks. They always do.
we shall see mike, we shall see!
So I knew Veras was gonna regress but I don’t think I expected this. I do, however, have more faith in Marte to right the ship.
I had to do a doubletake when I saw the score… how did it go from 1-1 to 10-1?!!? What happened bullpen?!
Farnsworthitis.
Ship Marte and Veras back to where they came from
Lets get the rally going… 4 in this inning… 3 in the 8th… 3 in the 9th to win it.
or not…
1…5…4, still works!
Tomorrow will be better. It has to be, I am going.
You just know we are not going to score here, even with 2 on and no outs.
You + Nonsensical comments= FAIL
Move Burnett to the pen.
This Yankee hate from our own fans is really the embarassing thing. Not this game.
Yeah. I really hope no one stops by these game threads because this is an embarrassment to our fanbase.
