105 pitches through 5 for Sabathia. Not good, but he’s doing a good job keeping us in the game without his best stuff. And a nice, hard “FUCK” from his mouth on the way to the dugout.

  2. Marc says:

Lets score a few runs here and give the win to CC!

  3. Mike says:

Wow, that strikeout says it all about the crowd. He’s pumped after getting out of that jam and judging by the crowd’s reaction it could have been a groundout to first.

  4. Mike says:

Wow, that strikeout says it all about the crowd. He’s pumped after getting out of that jam and judging by the crowd’s reaction it could have been a groundout to first.

  5. Mike A I’m holding you to that…

  6. Bill R says:

WOW! what a surprise he K’d!!!!

  7. BigBlueAL says:

Tex’s wrist is bothering him. He shook it after both foul balls.

  8. Mike says:

So much for Tex snapping out of his April slumps.

  9. Bruno says:

I lot Roberson and all, but why wasn’t a LONGMAN called up (Tomko/Aceves) and Alby/Coke sent down with Miranda to replace Nady?

  10. …one run. Please? Just one?

  11. Alexa- #1 Yankee fan says:

    Whos pitching the 6th?

  12. Drew says:

    Somebody jack this fool!

  13. Bill R says:

    We suck!

  14. BigBlueAL says:

    Hip Hip…

  15. Brendan says:

    HIP HIP

  16. Jake says:

    HIP HIP!!!

  17. Mike Axisa says:

    Order has been restored.

  18. Expired Milk says:

    Posada better smile after this

  19. Tampa Yankee says:

    Jorge!

  20. BigBlueAL says:

    Jorge!!

  21. YankeeScribe says:

Cliff Lee got rocked his first two starts. Either he’s got his 2008 Cy Young stuff back or the Yanks have got their 2008 anemic offense stuff back… :(

    • Bruno says:

Cliff Lee got rocked his first two starts. Either he’s got his 2008 Cy Young stuff back or the Yanks have got their 2008 anemic offense vs soft-tossing lefty’s stuff back…

      Fixed.

  22. Brooklyn Ed says:

now the whiners could shut up?

  23. BigBlueAL says:

Most of the crowd didnt realize the Yankees scored since they were too busy checking the Stock Market.

  24. Thomas says:

JoMo with the last and Jorge with the first.

  25. Peeing on your hands >>>>>>>> Being the 2008 AL Cy Young winner

  26. VO says:

Did cano just take 4 balls?

  27. Bruno says:

Cano’s not only hitting well, but working the count so far this year. Me likey.

  28. Christopher says:

Way to work the count Robbie! I’m shocked.

  29. Drew says:

Imagine if Cano had some protection.

  30. Bruno says:

I can’t wait to see JOBA! tomorrow.

  31. Question: Was Robinson Cano “down” enough last year to be the Comeback Player of the Year?

Because he’s going to be the best second baseman in all of baseball this year. THE. BEST. Book it.

  32. Brooklyn Ed says:

    wow, Mats actually hustled.

  33. Christopher says:

I had to delete my anti-Matsui post. Go Godzilla!

  34. Thomas says:

So I am watching a Chinese version of the game and their home run call is “Hasta La Vista.”

  35. gxpanos says:

Haha look at the PRESSURE Hideki puts on infielders with his blinding speed! 2 out rally time.

Also, is anyone warming up? I feel like pulling CC might be a good idea. Appreciate his effort today, but still.

  36. Jamal G. says:

John Madden has retired from broadcasting. http://tinyurl.com/djd9jc

… And I think I have retired from buying his game every damn year.

  37. VO says:

    Ransom sucks

    • John K. says:

Gameday had him making the out on a changeup way outside the zone. Is that right?

      • KW says:

it was a little low, but it didn’t look horrendous. What looked horrendous was how far out in front of it he was.

  38. Mike says:

    more stranded runners. shocking.

  39. Yankee1010 says:

At least Ransom’s play will make the fools who think the Yanks are better without A-Rod shut the Hell up.

  40. BigBlueAL says:

I hope this guy has no relation to James Dolan, I wouldnt want to curse out a bishop.

  41. KW says:

I like the stretching out of CC here, dont know why. He seems one of those who likes the workload, and might respond to it. Pure conjecture.

  42. Mike Axisa says:

They completed what they finished? Nice one Singy.

  43. steve (different one) says:

Ransom saved a run with his glove earlier, started the game winning rally last night….you guys need to lower your expectations.

A-Rod will be back in 2-3 weeks.

  44. BigBlueAL says:

Shit the Marlins won again. Swept the Braves and are now 8-1.

  45. Bill R says:

5 walks and 5 hits but only 1 run? Wow C.C. has lady luck on his side

  46. Axl says:

Why can’t we hit with runners in scoring position? Does anybody know what our team BA is with RISP right now? It has to be absolutely terrible. With the exception of last night’s game we I would guess it would have been hovering around the .100 line. We either hit home runs or sac flys for the most part. We couldn’t hit with RISP last year and the outcome was the nearly 200 less runs scored than the year before. It’s spilling over to this year so far…

    LET’S F$#%#$% HIT FELLAS!!!!

  47. Jamal G. says:

You know, with a patient Oakland lineup due up next for CC, I don’t much like the heavy workload today.

  48. Bill R says:

Yeah C.C! Why is giardi pulling him!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

  49. Mike says:

please not edwar in a 1-1 game

  50. Hard to believe CC only gave up one run!

  51. KW says:

Good job by CC, really kept things in control when he needed to. Not his best stuff today

  52. BigBlueAL says:

Not a good day for CC’s WHIP, but at least his ERA was solid.

  53. Drew says:

Yikes, can’t say I like this move.. Hope I’m wrong though.

    • steve (different one) says:

what move? who should he bring in?

      • Drew says:

I was just talking about going to the bullpen with Graff up.

      • Axl says:

My guess would be Albaledejo again…could be a Groundhog Day effect like the other day…only this time Wang wasn’t pitching and giving up 9 runs in an inning.

        • FWIW, I was perusing the Win Expectancy graph of that game again yesterday.

Girardi lifted Wang when the team was trailing 5-0 with the bases loaded and no outs. The Rays expected win percentage there was already like 97%. Meaning, throughout history, about three games out of a hundred does a team ever win that game.

Albaladejo giving up the grand slam and changing it from 5-0 to 9-0 barely made a dent in the win expectancy (like 97% to 98%). The game was effectively already over before he came in, the grand slam was rather immaterial.

  54. Tom Zig says:

5 walks? 122 pitches? Damn. At least its tied.

  55. Axl says:

Who’s in there for relief? I shake with literally anybody except Rivera…

  56. Reggie C. says:

so is CC’s start considered a “quality start” though he went five and two-thirds innings?

  57. Brendan says:

Anyone just see CC with the tobacco?

  58. Slugger27 says:

dude that was a HUGE dip he was putting in

  59. BigBlueAL says:

For the people talking about Madden retiring, how about just replacing him in the booth with Frank Caliendo as John Madden!! His interview with David Letterman when he played John Madden the entire time is a classic, you can see it on YouTube.

  60. A.D. says:

    Jesus Ransom

  61. Mike Axisa says:

ZOMG how did Tex win teh Gold Glove?!?!?

    Good Mo Ransom sucks.

    • usty says:

Ha. Cody Ransom is going to do the impossible and make the dummy Yankee fans actually miss A-Rod.

  62. BigBlueAL says:

Hey Girardi remembered he had Edwar Ramirez on the team.

  63. KW says:

Say this about Giambi, he could scoop with the best of em!

  64. Bill R says:

    WOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!! WE ARE TERRIBLE!!!

  65. Ahinds says:

    saved a run

  66. Axl says:

Kyle Farnsworth blew another game and gave up 3 more runs in an inning last night. It seems like decent to good pitchers usually come to the Yankees and perform mediocre or terrible (Randy Johnson, Javier Vasquez, Jose Contreras, Kevin Brown, Kyle Farnsworth, etc) and then when they leave the Yankees…they continue to be mediocre or terrible…like it’s a virus haha

  67. Bruno says:

Nice range by Robbie, Jeter’s gotta hold that.

  68. Tom Zig says:

Stop futzing around in the field damn it!

  69. kSturnz says:

Shit, I’m gonna need some coke

  70. Chuck Norris Ain't Got Nothin on Swisher says:

    I can’t believe I had a doctor’s appointment today. Of all days………..

Coke better not fuck this up

  71. Alexa- #1 Yankee fan says:

    Uhh ohh. Phil Coke? shit

  72. Drew says:

    {FACEPALM}

  73. BigBlueAL says:

WTF Coke again??? Why not Marte damnit!!

  74. Bill R says:

I hope sizemore hits a grand slam! Giardi sucks. C.C. would have gotten Tony G out and we’d be batting by now.

  75. Swisher's Evil Empire says:

    Not Phil Coke !

  76. Doug says:

    This could get ugly.

  77. Mike says:

    catch the damn ball jeter

  78. Axl says:

Here comes a Granny Smith from Tom Sizemore…

I’ve never liked Edwar Ramirez…Bill R, this is your boy though. He’s awful.

  79. A.D. says:

    Coke don’t suck

  80. Statler says:

    Phil Coke, everybody.

  81. Christopher says:

Phil Coke in to face Grady Sizemore, I’m scared.

  82. BigBlueAL says:

Honestly why not Marte??? What you are holding him back to face Sizemore in the 8th?? I think it is pretty important to get him out now.

    • BigBlueAL says:

Well nevermind, Girardi is a genius.

      • steve (different one) says:

don’t forget that Bruney is probably unavailable.

that means Marte has the 8th.

but you have a point. now is probably the most important time.

    • Tom Zig says:

Because Girardi wanted to throw Coke into the fire and see if he would perform. What bigger moment than now? Hopefully Coke has just turned the corner.

  83. KW says:

sucks for Edwar, he pitched well and got nothing for it

  84. A.D. says:

    Thank you Coke.

  85. Slugger27 says:

    pepsi’s for losers

  86. Bill R says:

    Thank Mo!

  87. Christopher says:

Joe Girardi is a genius lol

  88. Tom Zig says:

If this isn’t a showing of confidence to Phil Coke, I don’t know what is. Here is to hoping he does very well.

  89. Mike says:

excuse me while i get my oxygen tank…

  90. Drew says:

YAY!! love the flip down glasses! Coke make a me happy

  91. Tampa Yankee says:

Phew… now lets get the bats going.

  92. Brazilian Yankee says:

Alright fellas, just got home. How are we doing so far?!

  93. gxpanos says:

    He got the out, see?

C’mon everyone. It’s the bullpen. Haven’t we learned that the difference between Girardi and Torre is that Girardi won’t bury guys because of a few bad outings, thus not destroying their confidence and strengthening the BP over the long run? I LOVE that Phil didnt get sent down and I love seeing him get that out.

    Remember Proctor, guys?

  94. Quikksand says:

Time for the offense to do it’s job.

  95. BigBlueAL says:

Hey Arod hit 3 hr’s during a 49 swing batting practice today. Only 3, he sucks lets keep Ransom….

  96. kSturnz says:

    50 push ups, gardner

  97. Slugger27 says:

thats gonna put cokes wpa off the charts

  98. Tom Zig says:

And once again, no one wants to work the count.

    • Drew says:

I thought this too, then I looked at Lee’s PC, its 110. we obviously are taking some pitches.

  99. BigBlueAL says:

Honestly they should really make Gardner do 20 push-ups like Willie Mays Hayes did every time he hits a ball in the air.

  100. VO says:

That guys shirt has Teixeira spelt wrong

  101. Quikksand says:

Man, This offense can’t do much today…

  102. Mike says:

this game has been painful to watch

  103. Bill R says:

Who thinks Damon will ground out to second?

  104. Axl says:

When 4 of the batters are Gardner, Ransom/Pena, and sometimes Molina…and even Matsui lately…it’s a miracle how games are won. It’s like having 4 pitchers bat…

  105. whitty says:

Edwar pitched well. Ransom needs to be able to make that throw, and the groundball from Francisco just happened to be well-placed.

And kudos to Girardi for throwing Coke out there in a pressure situation against a lefty batter. That should be a real confidence builder, plus it saves Marte for the eighth.

I wonder who will pitch the seventh?

  106. kSturnz says:

bleed it out on the speakers for Johnny? I liked the Rays’ music

  107. steve (different one) says:

that should do it for Lee, that’s the good news i guess.

  108. Jasper says:

Veras scares me… Dude has the stuff, just wish he learned how to command his pitches.

  109. Mike Axisa says:

Good grief, with the matchups. Just leave Coke out there dammit.

  110. Brazilian Yankee says:

Oh Mo, my heart can’t take Veras pitching meaningful innings.

  111. BigBlueAL says:

What a shocker, Veras didnt come close to throwing a strike to the leadoff hiter.

  112. Mike says:

    veras has such good control…

  113. Christopher says:

Does Jose Veras have any idea whatsoever where he’s throwing it.

  114. jon says:

wow that “ball” 4 was right down the middle

veras must have slept with the umps wife

  115. A.D. says:

    Damnit Veras

  116. Brendan says:

    Just… wow.

  117. Manatee Community College says:

Veras looking like the new Krazy Kyle for 2009?

  118. BigBlueAL says:

Beautiful. This bullpen, its feast or famine.

  119. Brazilian Yankee says:

Well, who didn’t see that one coming.

  120. Drew says:

I really dislike Veras. Sorry for mentioning it every game but my frustration grows..

  121. Axl says:

I don’t understand how Cliff Lee gets absolutely shelled in 2 outings…and then all of the sudden he’s back to normal against the Yankees today. I’ve been at work so I haven’t been able to see it. Did he look like last year’s Cliff Lee?? Or is it what I think it is and the Yankees just aren’t hitting yet again…
Same with Sonnanstine…he gets beat up all over the place day in and day out but lately when he faces us we can’t hit him. Same with Guthrie who was shelled beyond belief in Spring Training…I could go on for hours…

  122. gxpanos says:

Wow that’s a bad pitch from Jose.

  123. Yankee1010 says:

Veras, it’s Mark Melancon on line 1. He says he wants to tell you have fun in AAA.

    • Veras, it’s Mark Melancon Anthony Claggett on line 1. He says he wants to tell you have fun in AAA.

Fixed. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. We still have a few older, more veteran prospects in front of Melancon who can be brought up without requiring a 40-man move.

      • Yankee1010 says:

I disagree. Claggett isn’t anywhere near Melancon. Melancon is working guys over left and right. I understand the 40 man issue, but is how much longer is that going to keep Melancon in the minors when it’s clear he is dominating down there?

  124. Mike says:

wow what a fucking shocker. i hate veras.

  125. KW says:

This just sets it up for a game winning bottom of the 9th hit.

  126. BigBlueAL says:

Sure play the infield back, with the way the offense is rolling today no need to prevent the run from scoring, its only the 7th inning.

  127. Ahinds says:

if joba was pitching the 8th inning, then bruney would pitch the 7th and then we would never loose a game .

  128. AJ says:

The Yankees anemic numbers with RISP position today might come back to bite them, especially with this situation. Somehow, Veras needs to make some magic happen.

  129. Axl says:

Jose Veras had like 9 strike outs in his first 5 innings in Spring Training if I remember correctly…then the real season comes up and it’s time to bunker down…

  130. kSturnz says:

wow melancon, 2 batters, 2 strikeouts; keeping it going

  131. Jamal G. says:

That umpire is such an asshole.

  132. Christopher says:

Veras is pretty awful, but he has been squeezed a bit.

    • Yankee1010 says:

I can’t see the game, but I’m going to assume that Veras hasn’t made things incredibly difficult for the ump, based on his track record.

Well, the bright side is that this hopefully gets Veras out of a trusted role and they will not hesitate to send him down.

  133. Drew says:

What else is new? Veras sucks.

  134. Brazilian Yankee says:

Great, just great. Ump doesn’t want to call strikes and we have to lose because of that.

    • Drew says:

I wouldn’t say we have lost. Umm its the top of the 7th. I think games go 9 innings, I could be wrong though.

  135. Doug says:

    VERAS!! YOU ASS!

  136. Statler says:

    -bleak laughter-

  137. Jasper says:

I have no idea why this man still has a spot on our roster. He walks the world and when he does throw a fastball, it gets hit. While I support every single man in pinstripes, the moment I see this guy on the mound, I cringe and can’t help but be pissed.

  138. Mike Axisa says:

I bet Girardi uses Marte for one damn hitter.

  139. Swisher's Evil Empire says:

Joba to the Pen, and I’m serious

    • Still mind-numbingly stupid.

No, Jose Veras allowing two runs here does not make it any smarter. Nothing will make it any smarter. Nothing.

    • A.D. says:

He wouldn’t even be in this game.

    • Bruno says:

      “You can’t fix stupid.”

Even IF Joba were in the ‘pen, he’d only pitch the 8th inn WITH A LEAD. So VerASS still would’ve sucked today genius.

    • Drew says:

How about we get move CC to the pen. His strong 5 2/3 is obviously pointless. He would serve us much better in the pen.

    • Expired Milk says:

and if Joba gave up two runs as a reliever?

    • Swisher's Evil Empire says:

Yeah, look, the pen just gave up 9 RUNS! It doesn’t matter if Joba would’ve pitching this inning, the fact that he moves everyone except Mo’ an inning forward changes the game alone. How many of these games do you guys need to prove it?

BTW, if he can affect the outcome of 80+ games, especially in the A.L east, then it’s definitely a good move, especially when considering the fact that he’s on pitch limits and might be sharing some starts with Phil Hughes, oh wait, Phil Hughes? Maybe he can be our fifth starter?

  140. Mike says:

veras is complete fuckin garbage. thats the game. we’ll strand 3 or 4 more the final 3 innings and that will be that.

  141. Axl says:

I hate our bullpen every year…it’s the same old story. Some random bum who one of the managers has a soft spot for gets thrown in there constantly and gets beaten around like a rag doll everytime at least it seems…then you look at their numbers at the end of the year and they’re not great but they’re mediocre…doesn’t make sense…it’s the times like these I guess…

    • jon says:

Did you watch the yankees last year? our bullpen was one of the best last year

but dont let facts get in the way of bind hate

    • It doesn’t make sense because the human memory is selective and emotional.

You tend to ignore the good work the bullpen does the frequent times they don’t allow runs, but focus on the infrequent times they do allow runs. That’s why you feel like the bullpen is weaker than it actually is.

WE. ARE. FINE. This does not change the fact that our bullpen is in fact still a strength and not a weakness.

  142. Bruno says:

    342 + 286 = 628

    don’t think we’re getting to 1,000

  143. Brazilian Yankee says:

Sure Veras sucks. Everybody not named Girardi knows that. That being said, he struck out Peralta and the ump just didn’t want to call it.

  144. Mike Axisa says:

Man, if you’re going to hit someone get your money’s worth.

  145. Russell NY says:

“we’ll strand 3 or 4 more the final 3 innings and that will be that.”

I’m saying bases loaded for the next 3 innings, every time with nobody out. And no runs will score.

  146. KW says:

Wow, that was a questionable decision.

  147. Christopher says:

Oh just awful, there’s the ball game.

  148. BigBlueAL says:

This game is turning into a joke.

  149. Bill R says:

Hey guys sorry I’ve been ranting and raving. It just upsets me when this team that I love so dear struggles.

  150. Brazilian Yankee says:

    Game, set and match.

  151. Mike says:

    unbelieveable.

  152. Axl says:

7 hits…1 run. I remember the other day we had 9 hits and 1 run. But we ended up scoring a few more runs after that so it was ruined. At least we’re kind of consistent…

  153. Mike Axisa says:

    Here come the B-Jobbers …

  154. BigBlueAL says:

This might be the worst opening day of a new stadium in the history of stadiums. Not just baseball, I mean in any sport. In the entire world.

  155. Mike says:

nice fucking game against the 2-6 indians after yesterday. i knew it was too good to be true.

  156. AJ says:

Looks like a huge inning for the Indians. The Yankees didn’t do it so far with RISP. The Indians are getting most of their runners home. Looking like a rough day for the ‘pen.

  157. Joop says:

Whenever something doesn’t go perfectly the same like five people come out and bitch.

You get get very old very fast.

  158. Axl says:

It’s pretty embarrassing when you’re the Yankees and you lose your grand opening and home opener…let alone to a team who started 1-6…

  159. Bryan says:

Mark Melancon, you might as well start driving to NYC now.

    • He’s NOT COMING.

He’s not on the 40-man, and there’s two other high-quality arms who are on the 40-man that we’d call up before him for that purpose.

This “CALL UP MELANCON NOW” concept is really starting to bug me.

      • i hope igawa isnt one of those arms

      • Yankee1010 says:

Exactly when would it be OK to call him up then? He’s going to need a spot on the 40 man at some point. Claggett and Jackson are not better than Melancon. Not close. At what point of the year are you proposing that it’s OK to put him on the 40 man? I’m all for 40 man issues and developing the kids, but the goal is to win at the big league level and Melancon is the goods. He has to be added at some point. I’m just asking when you propose to do that.

  160. Jasper says:

Lets get a DP and get outta this inning… We can come back from 3.

  161. Ahinds says:

i would love to see a game without infield-fly rule

  162. Axl says:

Our bullpen last year was a fluke. It’s a bunch of no name guys who ended up performing pretty well last year. Gambling on them doing the same exact thing again was incredibly stupid. I wouldn’t be surprised if the bullpen is like this for the rest of the season (outside of Rivera and sometimes Bruney)

    • Joop says:

We get it. You don’t like the bullpen. Stop posting every two god damn second.

    • Bruno says:

MOST good ‘pens are “no name guys”. Relievers are VERY volatile from year to year in general (with Mo and few others being the EXCEPTION to the proven rule). This is why we have MANY arms in AAA. RELAX!

  163. Jasper says:

Fuck man… You gotta at least throw strikes and let the defense play… well… defense.

  164. Brazilian Yankee says:

Hey at least we have Marte for what, 2 more years?!

  165. Manatee Community College says:

in marte’s defense, gameday has all 5 pitches he threw in that sequence firmly in the strike zone…

    • Yankee1010 says:

I’ve noticed that Gameday has about 80% of pitches “in the strike zone” this year though.

  166. Bill R says:

Well there’s the grand slam i asked for from Grady the other inning. Mo is punishing me

  167. BigBlueAL says:

I know there has been alot of stuff written about the camera being behind the net behind home plate, but I havent really noticed it much. Maybe cause its a day game you dont notice it much.

Ill tell you one thing, dont know how many of you have seen the behind the plate view in the new Nationals Stadium, but that is horrible. The view is so high above the field its pathetic.

Well at least Sizemore is on my fantasy team. Dont know why I wanted Marte to face him in the 6th….

  168. jim says:

I am so mad right now. THe bullpen looks pathetic today. Veras is a piece of shit. Walking the leadoff guy on 4 pitches is INEXCUSABLE in a tie ball game. Bring on Mark Melanon

  169. Jasper says:

and that my friends, will be ballgame…

  170. A.D. says:

Mike your thread headline jinxed it!!!

  171. Brazilian Yankee says:

He’s in there to get lefties out, right? Just checking.

  172. Jamal G. says:

Heh, the two kids standing next to the dude who threw the ball back were like, “Dude, what the fuck are you doing?!”

  173. AJ says:

Wow. At least the fan threw it back in. Maybe we can get him to pitch the rest of the 7th.

  174. Alexa- #1 Yankee fan says:

We still need to finish the game. wow

  175. Mike Pop says:

    This game…….

  176. Drew says:

Please send Veras to MiLB. I could care less about the 40 man.

  177. Ahinds says:

9 to 1, a real fan would turn the game off and go watch arrested development on dvd.

    • Bruno says:

No. REAL fans don’t quit on their team. Especially during the first game in The New Yankee Stadium. METS fans turn off the game and watch DVD’s.

  178. Bill R says:

welp thats it see ya guys

  179. Drew says:

    Give me a fucking break

  180. jon says:

    swisher to pitch again!!!!

  181. Christopher says:

I’d leave Marte out there, he deserves to be embarassed further.

  182. 27 this year says:

I think Swisher needs to be brought in to finish this game.

  183. Jamal G. says:

I kinda don’t like Damaso Marte anymore.

  184. JeffG says:

Official News Out of the Bullpen: If your name isn’t Bruney or Rivera… you suck!

  185. ceciguante says:

wow, veras and marte will live in infamy. they’ve tainted the new palace.

bad karma for the new yankee $tadium…..

  186. AJ says:

    Where’s Swisher?

  187. Eric says:

    This is quite a meltdown.

  188. Steve B-BALL says:

Girardi has done it again… he has no clue about his relief pitchers
Marte is absolutely useless… has been ever since he came to N.y. HELP

  189. Drew says:

We want.. What? what are the fans yelling? Did anyone catch that?

  190. Mike Axisa says:

Heh, love the “We want Swish-er clap clap clapclapclap” chant

  191. BigBlueAL says:

    What was the crowd chanting????

    • ceciguante says:

i think it was “we want our money back,” which is pretty hilarious if that’s what they said. ha.

  192. YankeeScribe says:

Well the word is out. The Yankees’ bullpen blows in 09′

  193. Stryker says:

k..i think this is the perfect time for me to go to the bathroom…NO POLICE TO USHER ME OUT IN MY OWN HOME!

  194. Ahinds says:

i love this dude! so much better than kate smith

  195. Mike says:

ZOMG all teh negativity!1!!1!! our offense is so good we will catch up!!!!!!111!

  196. Alexa- #1 Yankee fan says:

I wish pettitte could have brought yesterdays performance into todays game opening the stadium. whatever

  197. Steve B-BALL says:

Girardi has done it again… he has no clue about his relief pitchers whAT THE F***
Marte is absolutely useless… has been ever since he came to N.y. HELP

  198. Holy fuck that was painful.

  199. jonathan says:

Wow if posada was ashamed of the loss to the Rays whats he think about being slaughtered at the home opener by a team that came in at 2-7. Welcome home boys…you still are under performing!!

  200. Brazilian Yankee says:

Veras and Marte ’09 = Farnsworth and Vizcaino ’08

  201. Jamal G. says:

Ronan Tynan’s voice makes me want to be a better human being.

  202. desus says:

Jesus the music is loud. You guys weren’t kidding about the new sound system being cranked to 11.

  203. ceciguante says:

did i mention that ronan tynan is completely cheesy, and pains my ears? and now he has artsy german architect glasses. somebody please boo this guy along with our bullpen….

  204. Christopher says:

At least Veras comes cheap, Marte is getting paid a lot to serve up walks, hit batsmen and grand slams.

  205. The Lodge says:

Hey – if they put up a nine-spot, so can we, right?

  206. Axl says:

Hahahaha. This game is absolutely embarrassing. This 2-6 team is coming in the brand new Yankee Stadium and smearing the Yankees faces into the dirt.

How about this for trivia in the future? Which team beat the Yankees in their grand home opening? What was their record? LOL

    This is ridiculous.

    • Jamal G. says:

Dude, are you really judging a team based on their record in the second week of the season?

    • your ridiculous. losses happen you do know that right?

    • Tampa Yankee says:

Then stop watching. It’s fair weather fans like you that cause the rest of this country to hate Yankee fans. I’m sure if it was the other way around you’d be shouting as loud as you can that the Yankees are the best. You’re a f’n douche.

  207. dkidd says:

mohegan sun is to foxwoods as veras is to to bruney

  208. BigBlueAL says:

Its a good thing the Yankees didnt open the new Yankee Stadium as bad as the Mets opened up Citi Field.

  209. Evan S says:

    Woof.

Where is Melancon when you need him?

  210. Bruno says:

This is the Baseball Mo’s way of giving JOBA! the first Victory at The New Yankee Stadium. ;)

  211. AJ says:

In the last 10 games, the pen has blown two games (the game in KC being the other one.) You can even go as far to say three, if you consider Coke giving up the homer in Baltimore. A 70-80% hold rate just won’t do it.

Not the way the Yanks wanted to christen the new digs. But there’s still 152 games left, and plenty games to erase this performance.

Who knows, maybe the Yanks will come back…

  212. Swisher's Evil Empire says:

    Incase anyone misses it:
Yeah, look, the pen just gave up 9 RUNS! It doesn’t matter if Joba would’ve pitching this inning, the fact that he moves everyone except Mo’ an inning forward changes the game alone. How many of these games do you guys need to prove it?
BTW, if he can affect the outcome of 80+ games, especially in the A.L east, then it’s definitely a good move, especially when considering the fact that he’s on pitch limits and might be sharing some starts with Phil Hughes, oh wait, Phil Hughes? Maybe he can be our fifth starter?

  213. KW says:

    look at melky! workign counts

  214. Count Zero says:

Wow that was painful even in sporadic monitoring via Gameday at work. Glad I didn’t stay home to watch that.

  215. Alexa- #1 Yankee fan says:

on the bright side we still have 9 outs to work with.
I dont think this game will end 9-1

  216. Bruno says:

Is Melky wearing 53 because he missed Abreu?
    Melky’s D + Bobby’s bat = 1 good OF

  217. Axl says:

What’s funny is that we have 7 hits and 1 run in the entire game…the Indians in that INNING had 5 hits and 9 runs LOL

    What a F’ing joke

  218. Stryker says:

Don’t worry, the baseball gods wil take care of the Yanks. They always do.

we shall see mike, we shall see!

  219. Matt says:

So I knew Veras was gonna regress but I don’t think I expected this. I do, however, have more faith in Marte to right the ship.

  220. Nate says:

I had to do a doubletake when I saw the score… how did it go from 1-1 to 10-1?!!? What happened bullpen?!

  221. Jimmy says:

Ship Marte and Veras back to where they came from

  222. Jasper says:

Lets get the rally going… 4 in this inning… 3 in the 8th… 3 in the 9th to win it.

  223. Brendan says:

Tomorrow will be better. It has to be, I am going.

  224. Brazilian Yankee says:

You just know we are not going to score here, even with 2 on and no outs.

  225. Diony says:

    Move Burnett to the pen.

  226. Drew says:

This Yankee hate from our own fans is really the embarassing thing. Not this game.

    • Spaceman.Spiff says:

Yeah. I really hope no one stops by these game threads because this is an embarrassment to our fanbase.
