Game 12 Thread II: Wang is wrong

By

Anyone want to be that Phil Hughes takes Wang’s place next week? The Yankees have to figure out what’s wrong with Wang, and right now, everything — from release point to velocity — is off for the Wanger. An ace he is no longer.

  1. Spaceman.Spiff says:

We send Wang down, bring Hughes up, have Wang work on his mechanics in AAA. Once the pitching coach is satisfied with what he’s fixed, we bring Wang back up. No biggie.

  2. Joey H says:

Hey. I’m sure he’ll figure it out. Let’s give Hughes a chance. I doubt he can be any worse.

  3. Mike Pop says:

we suck dude we need to trade 4 peavey holliday and jimi hendrix this pitching staff stnks and we need those guys

  4. J says:

OMG. Thank GOD Pavano isn’t in today to rub it into our faces…

  5. BigBlueAL says:

Well in a positive note, the person Im playing this week had Wang on his pitching staff. Safe to say Im winning the ERA and WHIP categories this week.

  6. Mike Pop says:

Games like this suck, but they do happen. At least 5 or 6 times a year. So Wanger got 3 out of the way, better to get them out of the way early……I guess.

    • J says:

i think we’ve had three of these happen…

against the rays, o’s and the indians two days ago. and now this.

      That’s FOUR.

  7. Spaceman.Spiff says:

    Start warming up, Swisher.

  8. Drew says:

Usually I’m very mad when this happens. Today I find myself laughing in disbelief. I wonder why Igawa and Tomko aren’t up here. Oh yeah, 9-0.

  9. Joey H says:

Who pitches tomorrow? AJ? Hopefully he can be just as brilliant. And then Pettitte to follow? Same thing goes for him. We need some depth into games.

    • Evan says:

Yea but it’s not fair that it falls on these guys week after week. Something needs to be done, Wang can’t keep getting run out there every 5th day hoping one time it clicks. He needs to be taken out of the rotation until there is enough confidence in him and in himself to get the job done.

  10. BigBlueAL says:

Melky and Gardner have run about 5 miles each so far today chasing balls in the outfield.

    • Joey H says:

Yeah. Well if the ball goes over the fence like it seems to love to do then we don’t have to worry about that problem.

  11. Rally Caps? says:

When does the wrath of Joe Girardi manifest itself?

  12. Rally Caps? says:

also it is always a bad sign when you have used 3 times as many pitchers as you have hits

  13. BigBlueAL says:

Hey Edwar isnt wearing his goggles.

  14. J says:

not ramirez… this score can easily balloon again…

  15. Joey H says:

Can a player volunteer to go to the minors? Say Wang does the admirable thing and wants to go down to straighten his stuff out he can right? I know the whole options situation may restrict the Yankees from forcing him down but he can go willingly right?

  16. B.George says:

They should have had Wang start the seaon on the DL..he hasnt pitched since June and you expect a guy to come back and be a top of the rotation guy…he shoulda went through extended spring training and have rehab starts in the minors to work on mechanics and arm strength

    • Joey H says:

But nobody foresaw this in all fairness to him. We’re you anticipating him being absolutely horrendous? Definitely not.

  17. Rally Caps? says:

next inning it’s time to tell the indians to f* off and throw one up and in on … whoever… Sizemore

  18. Thomas says:

Edwar is getting ready to give up the granny.

  19. J says:

the yankees have been thusly outscored 60-74 this season.

  20. Joey H says:

And how don’t you just take your chances and throw the ball down the plate? It’s not like this is game 7 of the World Series by any crazy extent of your wildest imagination.

  21. John says:

I go shovel the snow and I come back to see them score 7 more runs and its bases loaded with one out!!!!!!

  22. Infamous says:

Melky to pitch next inning? That would be interesting

  23. John says:

Gotta commend Girardi for wisely using our quota of being blown out early in the year.

  24. Mike Pop says:

    Honestly, I blame A-Rod.

  25. Drew says:

    Good work Edwar.

  26. J says:

Ok RABers… so what are the yankees problems this year…

X is hurt, so our bench weakens…
Matsui is done, our bench and starting lineup weakens…
Wang is not himself, but we have backup in Hughes, IPK, MexGangster, Tomko (the professional wrestler!)
Third base has been a mess
The Yankees offense has only been flowing because of the bomb, Swisher and Cano

We could easily be under 500… by a LOT.

    • Joey H says:

I read the first part of your little comment and if you think the injury to Nady is the highest prioritized problem then the rest of the post isn’t worth reading.

      • J says:

i didnt do it by priority… just put it there randomly.

        • Joey H says:

Well that is the first thing that came to your mind then. Believe me the X injury isn’t the worst possible thing that could have happened to this team.

          • Spaceman.Spiff says:

            …He never said it was.

            • Mike Pop says:

I know. Joey H, you told me in the last thread to not over-analyze, yet that is all you’ve been doing.

              • Joey H says:

How? he put it first. I am giving my take on the Nady situation. I am actually surprisingly enough happy that Nady went down so Swish gets to play every day without hurting any feelings. You were nit picking what I said and blew it up into something I didn’t mean.

                • Mike Pop says:

Believe me the X injury isn’t the worst possible thing that could have happened to this team

He was stating what has happened to this team already. Also, you ask how? You called me out for questioning your fanhood last thread, which had nothing at all to do with what I wrote.

But, I wash my hands of this particular conversation because I know everyone is on edge because of this game.

                • Spaceman.Spiff says:

He put it first and then clarified that he was not ranking those in priority. No matter what you think, Nady going down is a net negative effect for our season.

                • J says:

“I read the first part of your little comment and if you think the injury to Nady is the highest prioritized problem then the rest of the post isn’t worth reading.”

so what did you mean by that..

also why the hell are you posting about something you didn’t even bother to read.

                • Joey H says:

Because I can and if you got a problem with it don’t post stupid stuff. And Mike what do you have a man crush on me or something? You follow me around critiquing every comment I make. Just stop already its not cool or funny.

                • J says:

damn and i thought i was a troll

            • Joey H says:

Please. Go scratch. Is that necessary? He is talking about problems that by the end of the year will not be problems. Probably any sooner. So just please.

              • Spaceman.Spiff says:

                ??

              • J says:

well you may be right, but if those kinds of things aren’t analyzed… well then places like RAB would have no use for existence. enjoy yourself a little more dude. i think we all are still optimistic about the yankees but they have serious, serious problems

and even more… jeter is actually helping the defense. imagine once he starts going to his mean…

                • Joey H says:

I am enjoying myself. However I would be enjoying myself more if it were 2-16 instead if 16-2. I’m just trying to tell you Nady’s injury isn’t all that big of a deal.

                • Mike Pop says:

I’m just trying to tell you Nady’s injury isn’t all that big of a deal.

Can you please elaborate a bit on this? I think it is absolutely a huge deal. Whether it was him, Damon, or Swisher. I thought losing any one of them was going to be a huge blow to this team because of the durability concerns and just the overall depth was nice.

                • J says:

nady’s injury is a big deal man. it takes away our best bench player (whether its him or swisher) and then replaces with cabrera…

you go from a positive win contribution to a negative, just in that respect.

then there’s replacing cabrera’s spot with someone even further below replacement level. maybe miranda can do something. who knows.

oh, then there’s the issue that nady could’ve been traded. we basically gave up tabata, karstens, ollie (and someone? i forget) for Marte. talk about lopsided trades.

dude know what you’re talking about (i sorta thought you did)

          • Steve H says:

Though the X injury is worse than some of the other things on the list. 3b is a mess, but A-Rod is on the way. Wang is a mess, but there are other options. Nady, if he’s out for the year, is a pretty big loss as there is no great replacement for him. We all knew Ransom was going to suck, and if A-Rod had been deemed out for the year, they likely would have made a move. We have expected some of the AAA guys to get some starts due to injury/ineffectiveness, which could happen soon. What we didn’t expect was our starting RF to get hurt in the first 2 weeks of the year and probably miss the season. When put into context, the Nady injury is pretty serious, as it was unexpected. Though as Mike Pop said, I think it’s worrying too much for right now. They’re right around .500, no reason to panic.

    • Mike Pop says:

Eh, I think you’re worrying way too much. Wang has been the only SP struggling really bad so far but yea, it’s early. Bullpens are so up and down so that’s not a huge problem in my eyes. A-Rod is coming back, I think the Yanks will be fine.

  27. Joey H says:

So anyway that Celtics Bulls game was something today.

    • J says:

Would you say D Rose has a quiet confidence or just looks like he doesn’t care?

Regardless, Rose is going to awesome. I hope Stern pulls off a Ewing/Rose and gets the 1 or 2 pick to NY so we can nab Griffin or Rubio…

      • Joey H says:

I would say he looked neither. He was remarkably quiet. He went there did his job and did it damned well. Good for him. Their post defense is terrible though.

      • Thomas says:

They need the number one for next year (John Wall). Ewing and Rose were uber prospects (as is Wall), Griffin will be very good but isn’t at the prospect level of the other two. This year we just need to hope for Brandon Jennings, Harden, or another talented player to fall to them.

Also for the love of God, the Knicks better not draft Curry.

        • J says:

wall said he’s going to school saying it’s his dad’s wish.

and why not curry? its reported he still has an inch to grow (looking at growth plates) and maybe more…

harden is too soft and too weak.

jennings would be nice but why do i just smell another telfair, marbury, selfish point type of player? i could be wrong.. but jennings has some serious, serious talent.

          • Spaceman.Spiff says:

Telfair is not the selfish point type of player. Just not as good as he was hyped up to be.

            • Thomas says:

The funny part about Telfair was he had all the hype (MSG and the movie), but the scout really didn’t even like him that much.

          • Thomas says:

I know Wall said he going to school, but he will still probably declare after next season. Hence we want number 1 next year.

Curry can possibly be a good player, but I doubt in D’Antoni’s system. He can’t dribble and pass well enough to be the PG in D’Antoni’s run and gun offense. He can’t get his own shot, isn’t athletic, isn’t a great driver, and can’t play defense. He is sort of like JJ Reddick, but worse. Also, he is too short for the two, which would be his ideal position.

If Curry gets into an offense were he just takes spot up jump shots and runs of screen like Reggie Miller or Ray Allen, he can be an effective player. However, with his lack of height people want him to play the point.

Also, .463/.408, .483/.439, and .454/.387. Those are Curry’s FG and 3P percentages, which are exactly great for a player who only major skill is shooting.

        • theyd need to make a trade, because utah owns their first rounder next year.

  28. Drew says:

    Maybe Wang needs FloMax.

  29. Mike Pop says:

Mo, I hate this Joe Buck and Tim McCarver.

  30. Steve H says:

To make matters worse, my fantasy team is off to a 0-25 start today. Almost impossible, but unfortunately true. I certainly don’t have any Indians.

  31. Bill says:

Losing Wang basically means that our bullpen has to also make up for whoever replaces him, at least if they don’t trade or sign someone.

  32. Drew says:

The guy from Fringe!! that was creepy.

  33. Jamal G. says:

Heh, is that guy from Fringe in character right now?

  34. John says:

I would say Wang can’t do any worse next time but I think it’s very possible he can. How do you raise a 28+ ERA to 34.5?!!!!!!

Claggett’s ERA is scarred for life too.

  35. Drew says:

Swish is smiling!! Alert the media!

  36. J says:

    COMEBACKKKKKKKKKKK

  37. BigBlueAL says:

How can you not love Swisher.

    • Mike Pop says:

      Your name is Kenny Williams.

      • Steve H says:

        Or Ozzie Guillen.

        • Mike Pop says:

Ray Allen, he was awful today, aay?

          • Steve H says:

Very. But not too concerned. It’s tough watching with KG out, knowing that they don’t have a legit chance at winning it all. After the title last year it’s tough to root for a conference finals appearance. When they made it in 2002 it was amazing because it was unexpected, now they’re coming off the title and lose KG, it’s hard to get excited. That, and David Stern has obviously mandated a Kobe-Lebron finals, no matter what.

            • Mike Pop says:

Ya. Losing KG was a killer, it hurts to lose him right now for you guys. I think a Lebron-Kobe finals is something to look forward to, but I’m not counting out the Magic pulling an upset on Cavs. 2002 was a fun year if I remember correctly, against the Sixers then the Nets. Antoine Walker became Mr. moneyball three pointer.

              • Steve H says:

Speaking of Antoine, who I always loved, I met him at a casino in Vegas the other night. Really nice guy. And yeah, 2002 was a blast, the 4th quarter comeback against the Nets was ridiculous, even more amazing than the comeback against the Lakers last year, because the Nets were the better team, but Pierce put on an all time performance.

  38. Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

    Nick Swisher = Champ Kind

  39. Drew says:

    C’mon Melker!

  40. Evan says:

Grand slam Brett Gardner. What happened to his power he had in ST?

  41. John says:

So how many guys who were sucking horribly in Spring Training/WBC/the games played before the one played against us pitched a gem or had a pretty solid start against us? I think its at least 3 or 4 now (Lee, Carmona, Guthrie?, and who else?)

could it be that we are not taking them seriously and end up losing our focus and struggle?

    • Joey H says:

I guess it’s a matter of getting settled in. Lee Carmona and Guthrie are all good pitches for the most part. I guess it is the whole Yankees are coming to town mentality that gets them pumped.

    • Drew says:

I’d say no. I mean if Wang had his sinker doing it’s job today we wouldn’t have said that about Cleveland.

  42. jimbo says:

The only consolation we get is that Boston and Tampa Bay are playing worse

    • Evan says:

Just hope this is the worst we see it all season. The only saving grace in this matter is that it’s April. Imagine this was happening to us in late August, early September? I would be pulling my hair out. Right now you kid of have to take it on the chin and keep going. We will work things out, cause you gots to have a little faith brotha.

  43. BigBlueAL says:

Even in a blowout the Yankees cant get a hit with RISP!!

  44. Mike Axisa says:

I just got home and turned the TV on. I don’t even want to know what happened.

  45. John says:

At least calling up Claggett saved our pen 1.2 innings…

  46. LiveFromNewYork says:

Michael Strahan is going to be on a NASCAR show on the Speed channel (in a little while)

    Today is Alternative Universe day.

  47. Sweet Dick Willie says:

Wang’s next start is Friday in Fenway, but we have an off day on Thurs, so Girardi skips him, right?

  48. Joey H says:

Why are we walking batters in a 16-2 ball game? Throw the god damned ball over the god damned plate. What more can happen in all seriousness?

    • Drew says:

Edwar is trying to throw strikes.

    • Spaceman.Spiff says:

Fly ball homeruns? Doubles in the gap?

      • Joey H says:

And who does that hurt? Nobody. The dugout and whoever is left in the crowd is in a numb state. So go throw the ball over the plate and lets try to get this one finished.

        • Spaceman.Spiff says:

Hurts his ERA, makes the score look worse. Who gets hurt by walks if you don’t get hurt by homers and doubles?

        • Spaceman.Spiff says:

Yeah, throwing them balls over the plate is really helping get the game finished. At least he was K’ing guys along with his walks when he was nibbling. He’s throwing BP if he throws it over the plate.

          • Joey H says:

Okay. So you if you throw the ball over the plate there is a much better chance of getting it over with rather than walking batters. There is zero chance of getting out of the ball game by walking batters. At this point it just comes down to the game being over so we can just get this shit over with and forget about it.

            • Spaceman.Spiff says:

Okay these are the real outcomes with Edwar. He throws the ball low, off the plate trying to deceive guys to swing on his changeup. This either results in a walk or a strikeout. As you can see by his work today. The other option is that he throws the ball over the plate. This usually results in a hard hit ball since it’s either a mediocre fastball or a changeup left up. The number of hard hit balls that get turned into outs are very low especially with the wind in this stadium. At least when he was nibbling he got K’s, he’s not a guy that induces outs via contact, don’t try to make him sound like that kind of guy.

  49. Evan says:

Girardi is looking at the match-up card. He’s going to bring in bruney to face the right hander.

  50. Drew says:

Should we be expecting a rash proclamation from Hanky?

    • John says:

Nah, he’s just watching his new toy work out a little kinks.

Had we been in last place though, oh boy…………..

  51. Steve says:

Think the Yanks can pick up Milledge?

I wanna see Melancon and Tomko/Aceves up in the majors tomorrow. Maybe Miranda for Matsui too.

  52. LiveFromNewYork says:

So much for “we have too many players, no one will be called up this year.”

  53. Evan says:

Minus Wang (terrible right now) and Claggett (1st MLB game), we would be in this game otherwise.

  54. Evan says:

Girardi must think he is a genius for calling up Claggett. He didn’t anticipate a Claggett 1.2 IP outing though. Next time he needs to call up a Claggett like pitcher for Claggett also.

  55. B.George says:

what was the point in sending down robertson calling up miranda for a day and then sending down miranda for claggett?

  56. Drew says:

Poor Edwar, I guess he’s not a long man. Who’d a thunk it?

  57. Joey H says:

If I’m not mistaken didn’t they bet the Yankees 22-0 a couple years ago? And now I am rooting for DeRosa. He’s on my fantasy team.

  58. Joey H says:

And I am having major concerns. This park is worse than Citizen’s Bank park.

  59. Drew says:

Way to leave him out to dry Joe. Maybe he can go three more innings.

  60. E-ROC says:

Ah, that was fat pitch. Straight down the middle.

Mike Pop, we just might see 30 runs scored on the Yankees. That’s a frightening prospect.

  61. Mike Pop says:

    Where’s Scott Proctor!!!

  62. J says:

    what a sad day

worst is, i dont have any beer or bud to make myself feel better.

  63. John says:

    20 hits, 20 runs

    2 hits, 2 runs

Both team are incredibly efficient with their hits, having as many runs. Too bad we aren’t efficient with men on base.

  64. Mike Axisa says:

Man, Yankee pitches have thrown close to 170 pitches and it’s not even the sixth yet.

  65. Drew says:

Cash and Joe really botched this one.

  66. J says:

    lol pity strikeout

  67. The new Yankee Stadium sucks says:

This place is gonna be awful to watch a game in…can they make the walls 20 feet taller?

  68. E-ROC says:

Good strike called by the umpire. He’s ready to go home.

  69. Bob Michaels says:

After the game the Yanks will send down Claggett and call up Aceves.

  70. miketotheg says:

I blame girardi. He let those youngin’s blow our season last year and he doesn’t have the cojones to send down wang and tell joba to shut up and pitch the 8th. Or maybe keep wang in the pen until he can get outs. Our WHOLE bullpen is full of minor league starters! Pretend its september and start calling these kids up. Throw enough mud on the wall and something will stick.

Honestly tho I think girardi let’s cashman and player’s agents dictate to him. I miss torre.

    • Joey H says:

Yeah because Torre who is notorious for blowing out arms in the pen would TOTALLY solve the problem. Redirect to here : LoHud.com

    • Drew says:

I must say I’m happy this is the first (hopefully last) comment of yours that I’ve seen today.

      • Steve H says:

        Just today? I’m hoping ever.

        • miketotheg says:

          riiiiiiiiiight.

who wants to go to the playoffs every year? let’s have girardi do what he’s told and play games off of resumes. he just plays to the payroll while EVERYONE ELSE demands results. Then we can play the blame game in october AGAIN while torre’s team is in the playoffs.

Let’s talk again after wang blows his next start and our bullpen in the process.
          go wanger!

  71. Joey H says:

Where is TEHH ROCKET ROGER CLEMENS?!!?!?1?!?!1?!?1

  72. Phrancis says:

Want my money back if I’m sitting in one of those expensive seats.

  73. BigBlueAL says:

The Baseball Gods are straight pissing on the Yankees and laughing their asses off in the process.

  74. Mike Pop says:

Aww McCarver, you can just go to hell!!!

  75. J says:

ummm also why is yankee stadium so empty for a saturday day game?

  76. ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops says:

I’m just watching this game in utter disbelief. This wouldn’t even be funny as an April Fool’s joke.

Only positive thing is that we will be roughing up Pavano tomorrow.

  77. John says:

What’s the thing where you get tortured to make up for your sins?

    Does watching this game count?

  78. J says:

why couldn’t gardner make that play a few innings ago. jeesh.

  79. BigBlueAL says:

That ball wouldve been a triple against the Yankees as Gardner wouldve dove and missed it.

  80. Mike Pop says:

Alright fellas, keep it at 20.

  81. Joey says:

Just got home. Jesus this one is ugly. Just have one question, did Cap’n get taken out because of the beat down or is he injured?

oh and btw, Grady wouldn’t have had to dive for that

  82. Drew says:

OMG Matsui getting practice swings in!? dude this is not the minors.

    • Joey H says:

No what pisses me off is in a 20-2 game you run a guy out there who Girardi himself said was “worried” or something to that nature about Matsui’s situation with his knees.

  83. Drew says:

Should he really be running off of fluid drainage?

  84. E-ROC says:

All the Yanks need is 19 runs. They can still win this thing.

  85. Mike Pop says:

Joe Buck, you go to hell too.

  86. ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops says:

It could be worse. I don’t know how but I guess it could, right?

    • TC says:

I think we need to take comfort in the fact that it can’t get worse than this. Hopefully we’ve just witnessed rock bottom for the ’09 Yanks.

      • John says:

or hopefully rock bottom for the whole life of YS since the 2nd was the worst inning we’ve had in our history giving up the most hits and runs.

  87. Phrancis says:

This must be the worst ball park in MLB. Worse than Citizen’s and rangers ball park.

A blue monster on the right field would be nice. Or else none of the premium free agent pitcher wuld want to sign with the yankees. And both CC and AJ might opt out after 3 years.

  88. southernyankeefan says:

Does Wang throw pitches after he leaves the game? If not even if they do run him out there next time how far could he go. He hasn’t thrown that many pitches. anybody know his pitch count from the first two games he pitched??

    • John says:

well, he’s pitched only 6 innings so far.

      • southernyankeefan says:

i know but he has still thrown some pitches he threw 52 today. i guess what i was getting at even if he was right would he be able to get to 90-100 pitches without getting worn out.

        • John says:

yea, i know what you were saying. But i was just saying that all I know is that he’s pitched 6 innings. My bad, it was a bad way to say that.

  89. GoGo Platter says:

Oh God, I think Tim McCarver’s head just exploded.

  90. Pedrucho says:

Joe Girardi should’ve have done a better job today. Dude, if you see that the guy is getting smacked around, take him out of the game before it’s out of hand . Something is clearly wrong with Wang.

  91. Sal says:

This is y edwar doesn’t pitch important innings. He’s meat

  92. E-ROC says:

    Yanks showing off their versatility.

  93. VO says:

Who do we have left in this bullpen?

  94. J says:

ok so we have 3 more innings…

if veras is in for this and the 7th… whos in the 8th and 9th?

  95. Joey H says:

So would it be smart for me to release Wang on my fantasy team?

  96. J says:

omg a WALK? just throw it down the middle already.

  97. B.George says:

If you were stuck on an island and you had to choose to watch a game that is announced by McCarver/Buck or Morgan/Phillips/MIller who will you watch?

I think I will drown myself before having to choose.

  98. Drew says:

Good heads up catch by Jose.

  99. J says:

that sucks. a blow out and that happens to the ump…

those kind of blows can easily cause a concussion.

  100. J says:

lol. veras is going to be confused.

  101. 65hughes says:

PHIL HUGHES PHIL HUGHES PHIL HUGHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

  102. 65hughes says:

THE YANKS SHOULD OF BUILD THE NEW STADIUM LIKE PETCO

  103. ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops says:

Enjoy this while there is a delay:

    • Joey says:

lol thank you for killing 5 minutes of not having to watch the Yankees game. That fat kids getting laid by all the girls at his school. Coincidentally he probably has bigger man-boobs than all of them

      • ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops says:

You’re welcome. I probably watched this 30 times already today. And it’s still insane.

  104. dkidd says:

    what happened to the ump?

    • Joey says:

Foul tip straight to the mask, cracked it in half (or so the amazing Fox team is reporting). Seems okay though

  105. Joey says:

In other news, Lincecum looks like he’s got his mechanics straightened out. Beast.

  106. BigBlueAL says:

I was just thinking, with the way the new Stadium plays, Arod even with missing the games he will miss could break Barry Bonds’ record this season. Both the single season and career record.

  107. VO says:

    That’s it!

  108. Drew says:

    But Melky sucks!
Yeah, I know you all still hate him.
    I love Melky.

  109. BigBlueAL says:

Melky wants his CF job back!!!!

  110. Chris V. says:

They need to give it to him. I can’t take gardners noodle arm much longer.

  111. Drew says:

The hot dog champ is coming in. This is just embarassing.

  112. 65hughes says:

nah if melky is hitting hr then the new ys is softball field

  113. VO says:

Wow that dude that’s filling in for PeteAbe makes sense, some of you guys should go check it out.

    • Joey says:

Wow, you’re right. Commen sense over at LoHud, who woulda thought?

“UPDATE, 5:49 p.m.: I know I’m not Pete Abe, but after reading your comments I have some thoughts.

First, one loss, even one this bad, isn’t the end of the world. The Brewers lost today, too. And whether you lose 1-0 or 16-2, it’s all the same in the standings. If the Yankees have any pride, and you know guys like Jeter, Posada, and Swisher do, they’ll come out tomorrow and thump Carl Pavano around the way he deserves to be.

Second, Claggett deserves a little slack. Yes, eight runs in 1.2 innings is dreadful. But we spoke to the kid before the game and he was clearly wide-eyed. He talked about driving into the city last night and seeing the New York City skyline and how “it hit me” that he was in the majors. I’m not saying you should ease up because he’s a nice guy. But he got thrown to the wolves in the second inning in a total no-win situation.

As I wrote that, by the way, the Indians just tacked on a couple of more homers.

UPDATE, 6:24 p.m.: What would be worse? Losing by 18 runs today or getting beat tomorrow by Carl Pavano? Just curious.”

You know Pete would have just been inciting this riot more

  114. I have an extra ticket for tomorrow’s game, anyone want to go?

  115. BigBlueAL says:

After seeing the way the new Stadium plays, ARod might be so horny to play here he could be back on Monday, if not already on a flight to NY to face Pavano tomorrow.

  116. Bryan says:

I haven’t seen a worse game since the Helsinki Incident of 1919.

  117. Doug says:

Heh, I’m in Michigan, so my Fox affiliate is showing the Cubs/Cardinals game. The outfield is full of seagulls. They descend on Wrigley Field after day games to feed on the scraps of food left in the stands. But, today’s game is moving so slowly that the seagulls have showed up, and, having nowhere else to go, they’re all hanging out in right center field.

    • Joey H says:

“Heh, I’m in Michigan, so my Fox affiliate is showing the Cubs/Cardinals game”
God bless you and your FOX affiliate.

  118. Joey H says:

Well who else is comforted by the fact that by the end of April the only thing left in the bullpen will be Mariano, some sunflower seed shells and Gatorade cups?

  119. Joey H says:

I know this might be beating a dead horse but wouldn’t it be nice to see Melky start in the stadium against RHP sometimes? I’m impressed with how fast his bat has been on those two monster swings over the past two days. He did have a good spring too.

  120. TC says:

    Not his knees!

  121. John says:

“I’m impressed with how fast his bat has been on those two monster swings over the past two days.”

He’s been swinging better, but that was hardly a “monster swing” on that last HR. It barely got out in right, I believe.

  122. Nick says:

Let’s go, put Swisher in to pitch again.

  123. VO says:

Veras’ 3rd inning, Marte for the 9th?

  124. Mike Axisa says:

Jose Veras as been the Yanks most effective pitcher today. Go figure.

  125. Drew says:

Example # 4 of today why 1 inning relievers are not effective after 1 inning.

  126. VO says:

Is it me or are these fans jerks/retards/losers chanting “we want swisher” yea it was funny the first time give it a rest.

  127. GoTerpsGo says:

Wow… You know it’s bad when Washingtonpost.com has this game as their front page story. *sigh*

  128. LiveFromNewYork says:

I thought that the blowout the other day or maybe another one was the one where we turned this all around?

  129. LiveFromNewYork says:

Time for Roger Clemens to un-retire goodness gracious

  130. southernyankeefan says:

here is a little comic relief. wait for the last guy.

  131. Drew says:

Another good AB by Melky, I think that’s three today.

  132. Joseph M says:

Getting this back to Wang, the Yanks will have to check him from head to toe (MRI’s the works) and then deal with it in one of two ways, he goes on the DL if something is found, or he goes straight to the minors if nothing is found.

I don’t think this is a release point issue, I think there are more serious issues here, Wang’s 2009 Yankee season could be history.

  133. Drew says:

Before we all bash Marte. The man threw strikes.

  134. VO says:

    Come on let’s RALLY!

  135. Drew says:

We should try to take a positive out of every ball game.
On that note, RAB’s servers held up well with consistent and fast load time.

  136. LiveFromNewYork says:

    Wall Girardi Girardi Wall

I would not want to be him giving post game interviews. I would just let all the media watch me smack my head into the wall for 5 or 6 hours

  137. Lanny says:

Wang and Veras are going to ruin Scrantons season now.

  138. Drew says:

Great, no postgame today. Mo forbid some fans enjoy seeing the players and managers reaction after watching a game for 4 hours.

    • Zack says:

Do you really want them to talk about a 20-4 game for another hour?

It’s going to be the same answer from each player, “Wanger was just off today, we’ll get him straightened out”
