This whole homerun stuff is bullshit. Most of these shots are gone in any stadium not just this “bandbox” I hate the media so much.

    • A.D.

Yeah, on the radio they’re making sure to discuss each one with the “bandbox” issue, pretty much either moon shots, bad pitches that should be crushed or both.

          • Joey

and it was probably a she that said it to you

  • Chris

Is it just me, or are the Yankees hitting many more solo home runs than they should. There seem to be men on base all the time, but most of the home runs are solo shots.

    • DP

      TEHY R SO UNCULTCH!!!!!!

      • Klemy

Wait until ARod returns. All that will change! /rolleyes

    • Not So Angry Again Axl

That’s because we don’t hit that well with RISP. Why? No idea. People are trying to do too much I guess when they see there are teammates on base…so nothing inevitably happens. Then with nobody on…they just go about their business and they start smashing home runs over and over…

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

I could care less about how they score their runs just as long as they score them.

There’s seven days of shiva and then thirty where you’re kind of in this laid back mourning state, where you do regular things like work, but don’t do anything exceedingly celebratory…and dining out is kinda like that. At least when you’re a student.

      • Chris

but a home run with people on base is worth more runs than one with no one on. I assume it’s just luck and will balance itself out, but I do find it interesting…

      • Joe R

        couldnt*

  • Not So Angry Again Axl

Think Sabathia can get through this next inning without giving up a run? Odds? I love the bandbox for the Yankees…but it’s only a matter of time before Giambi or Holiday hit their first homers…I mean Kurt Susuki with more than them combined?? Let’s get serious, man

    • Not So Angry Again Axl

Why are hardly ANY of our pitchers striking anybody out aside from AJ

    • Matt-Pitt

They will come. Just be content with that fact that he is getting the outs. Yanks will take em’ anyway he can get em’.

  • Matt-Pitt

Another good inning. Lets tack on some more in the bottom half.

  • GG

Yanks schedule looks pretty tough for the next couple of weeks, hopefully this team can win today, and get a roll goin above .500

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

Who’s on it besides Boston and toronto?

      • Not So Angry Again Axl

Detroit, LA, Boston again, and Tampa Bay

      • GG

we get boston, detroit, angels, boston, tb i believe, followed up by toronto and b-more

        • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

          Owies.

          • Chip

We could really do some damage on that trip though. I mean it might be rough but if we take both series with Boston, you have to think that we’ll have a large lead on them after that

          • GG

AL seems crazy deep this year, hopefully that will change in a couple of weeks but right now even seattle is playing well, baltimore looks like they will be dangerous all year but not win a lot, toronto same, every team in the central seems formidable, etc..

        • Chris

          Their current records: 7-6, 7-6, 5-8, 7-6, 5-9.

I don’t know that any schedule would be significantly more or less difficult. You’re either going to get teams that are expected to be good and are struggling, or teams that are expected to struggle but are off to a hot start.

          • GG

if you throw records out the door, all those teams have deep lineups with patient hitters, it will be the first actual telling stretch…given that the stadium is open now, and all the opening days and hoopla are over, it time to learn something about the 2009 Yanks(currently Nady and Wangless).

            • Chris

My point was that you could list just about any group of teams and make a compelling case that it’s a challenging upcoming schedule.

  • Chip

Hopefully this is the inning they deliver the knock-out punch and get into the bullpen

  • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

You know, after Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski adamantly shot down Peter Gammons’ rumor of a possible Miguel Cabrera trade, doesn’t that make it twice in the past few months where a MLB GM came out and emphatically shot down one of Gammons’ “rumors”? I’m trying to remember the other GM, but the name – and subject player – escapes me.

    • http://ryanhandt.blogspot.com/ handtius

      reds harang

      • steve (different one)

are you saying that Gammons info is usually a red herring?

        • http://ryanhandt.blogspot.com/ handtius

          close.

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

Do you believe the Dombrowski statement?

I mean, yeah, I agree that it would be foolish of them to move Miggy, but if they drop out of it, doesn’t that salary look like a gigantic boulder around your neck? If the Sox called up and offered Buchholz and Lars Anderson and a few other decent prospects, wouldn’t the Tigers take it? Pull a Marlins/Rays and sell off all their expensive talent for top flight youngsters and sit back and wait for them to mature together?

I’m still not convinced Cabrera’s “not going anywhere” is ironclad.

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

        I agree, that’s a damage control statement.

“Uh, we’re not trading Miggy, so don’t expect to get him at … uh … a discount or anything like that. Yeah, that’s it.”

      • Chip

I could see it but why would they do it in April? Wait until the Red Sox get desperate

      • GG

but cabrera’s not white, theo wants berkman, i have no idea what his contract looks like

      • Chris

Even if they lose every game this year, the Tigers aren’t going to be relegated to the basement through 2015 when Cabrera’s contract is up. If he were in the last 2 years of his deal, then his chances of being traded would be much higher.

      • Not So Angry Again Axl

Buchholz and Lars Anderson for Cabrera? That’s it?? Neither are proven…nor have THAT much upside. Cameron Maybin had far better upside than either of those 2. Andrew Miller = Clay Buchholz. Cameron Maybin > Lars Anderson

      • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

I see your pint, but I admit the track record of Gammons’ rumor mongering and the complete about-face the Tigers organization would have to make to pull off a deal is allowing me to give Dombrowski the benefit of the doubt.

  • Not So Angry Again Axl

I don’t understand how the Red Sox continue to win over and over with mediocre-bad pitching and the majority of their offense not doing that much…

Hey wait a minute…doesn’t that sound like us a little bit?

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

We’ve had ONE game where our offense has scored less than four runs. ONE. Out of fifteen.

Say what you want about the pitching, but the losses aren’t because of the offense.

      • Chip

We have two bad hitters in our lineup, one of which will be replaced soon.

The red sox have black holes at SS, CF, C, 3B and DH. Papi is going through his Mo Vaughn decline and Pedroia is due to regress to the mean this season. Those guys are in trouble despite the record

        • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

The red sox have black holes at SS, CF, C, 3B and DH.
Meh, Lowell actually looks fairly decent.

But yeah, they have holes to fill. I predicted the Sox to beat out the Rays for second place and win the wildcard, but that was predicated on them making a midseason trade for a bat (like Miguel Cabrera) to improve their team.

As they are presently constructed, I anticipate them struggling as the season progresses.

More impressed with Cano or Melky’s new-found plate discipline? I mean, the latter did above-average discipline his rookie season (Melky’s 10.9 BB% ranked sixth of all ML left fielders in 2006) unlike Cano, who never showed any.

Just because CC has thrown 120+ pitches before on multiple occasions, it doesn’t mean he has to every outing, especially when he’s thrown 100+ through 6, hasn’t looked too great, it’s a cold day in the middle of April, and there’s a reasonably rested bullpen with an off day tomorrow. Oh, and he’s thrown a ton of innings the last few years. How about saving some bullets?

Especially since you know he isnt exactly pitching good.

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

Saving the pen for CMW starts.

  • Brazilian Yankee

I think it’s time to make the call to the pen..

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

    Ayayay.

  • BigBlueAL

    CC is killing me.

    • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

      Agreed. To Coke.

  • http://ryanhandt.blogspot.com/ handtius

    justin.tv check it out.

  • Evan S

14 Walks and 12Ks. Not too good CC, not too good.

  • Joe R

I think Girardi wants to jus make this game even more exciting. So hes leaving in CC.

  • Not So Angry Again Axl

    HAHA here we go again…

    • http://ryanhandt.blogspot.com/ handtius

      come on

  • Not So Angry Again Axl

    This is a riot…

  • A.D.

Alby vs Holliday, should be interesting.

    • A.D.

      Or not

  • Brazilian Yankee

Let me be the first to congratulate Joe G. on another stupid decision. Way to go Joe!

  • jsbrendog

    goddammit

  • Matt-Pitt

    Leavin’ CC against Holliday… Hmmm…

  • Joe R

This has trouble all over it

    • Joe R

      Sweet

  • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

    So bad.

  • Not So Angry Again Axl

Bases loaded with Matt Holiday up? Uh Oh… Thanks CC…

    • Drew

      uhhh.. bases loaded?

    • Joe R

      what game you watchin? :P

    • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

You’re a riot, you really are.

      • Sweet Dick Willie

You’re an idiot riot, you really are.

  • BigBlueAL

    Giradi, you fuckin suck. Again.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

    ….Like I said, ayayay.

  • A.D.

    Jeeeez

  • Drew

    Fuck man

  • Matt-Pitt

Dunno how to allow CC to start this inning but even more, don’t know how you allow him to pitch to Holliday.

  • Klemy

    What.in.the.world.

  • pat

    Fucksticks.

  • Evan S

Excellent. Maybe if he didn’t issue so many free passes he wouldn’t give up 7 runs. Ugh.

  • jsbrendog

    GIRARDI FAIL

  • Yankee1010

So, Joe, is it time to pull him fucking now? Or are you going to wait until he’s at 140 damn ineffective pitches?

  • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt

    Awesome.

  • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

I understand allowing the best pitcher on the team to get out of these tough jams, but must it happen so early in the season?

    • Yankee1010

It would also have been another thing if Sabathia had been pitching well. He had no business starting that inning. Atrocious.

    • BigBlueAL

Must it happen when that pitcher is pitching like shit to begin with.

  • Klemy

Why does he continue to squander leads day after day?

    • Klemy

It wouldn’t have been micro-managing by taking him out after the first two hitters reached base in an inning where he started at a lot of pitches and poor command.

  • JT

You’d think an ex-catcher (and a smart one at that) would be able to manage a staff better.
    That was idiotic.

  • Not So Angry Again Axl

HAHAHA. I can’t stop laughing. Whenever we have a win in our grasp…Girardi makes sure we take a few steps backwards…

    • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

Dude, can you stop. We all know that Girardi shouldn’t of left him in, we all know CC hasn’t pitched great. You don’t need to make 4 comments criticizing every minute.

  • MLK

Paging Don Mattingly. Just joking or am I?

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    Joe Girardi, bullpen master.

    • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt

His bullpen management has not been as good this season so far.

Why CC was in to face Sabathia is beyond me.

      • Arin

        Holliday?

      • pat

        orlly?

  • BigBlueAL

I really cant stand Girardi as a manager. I know I shouldnt (yet), but Jesus Christ almost every single freakin decision/move he does or doesnt make backfires on him.

    • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

No, its just that you notice the ones that dont work more. I have no problem with letting the best pitcher on the staff work through some issues in a game in April.

      • Not So Angry Again Axl

        Grady Little didn’t either…

        • Chris

That was a playoff game. In October. You (should) manage differently.

      • Brazilian Yankee

Yes, even if it cost us the game, cause we all know games in April don’t count as much as games in august.

        • Joop

That’s not what he said at all.

        • Chris

If staying in for a few extra batters helps CC get in a groove and shake the funk that he’s been in this season, then a loss won’t matter. So in that regard, this game does mean less than one in August.

    • Joop

This view is probably a result of irrationality.

      • BigBlueAL

Well I did admit that in my initial comment.

  • Joe R

What possible good explination could you have for leaving a struggling pitcher in the game in a tight situation?

    • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

With no Joba in the pen, we have noone to trust.

    • Sweet Dick Willie

Well, he is the ace. Trying to show some confidence? (I dunno. I’m fishing.)

  • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

What is CC doing, just sitting there chewing gum. He should be ashamed of this start!!1!!!
    -Wallace Mathewws

  • Drew

You know, if Girardi went to the pen for a matchup, a lot of people here would say he micromanaged.

    • Joe R

I doubt it. CC was well above 100 pitches and had a rough outing.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Not in this situation, with the tying run on third and CC at ~110 pitches.

    • BigBlueAL

No. Not when CC was laboring through 6 innings yet not only does Girardi let him start the 7th, he leaves him out there til he blows the 2-run lead.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Girardi’s shown an impressive a trend of making the right move one batter too late.

    • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

It’s funny, last year everyone considered him a bullpen master. When things you do work, your a genius, when they dont, your pretty dumb. I have no problem with letting your ace work through some issues in a game in April. I just look back to the huge controversy that happened last April when he let Moose pitch to Manny to show some faith. I’m not saying it led to the rest of Moose’s season, but Moose did say that it meant something to him, to see the manager have faith in him.

  • Frank

Gotta say, not real impressed with CC so far this season.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

The thing is, if he had a four start stretch like this in July (bad start, very good start, mediocre start, bad start), no one would really notice. But because it’s the start of the year, people freak out.

    • Matt-Pitt

Alright offense, do what you gotta do.

  • A.D.

I get riding CC through the 7th if he was having a dominating start, but this was far from that.

  • Brazilian Yankee

Well, thank Mo CC doesnt pitch against the Sox. That could have been ugly.

    • Chris

Yeah, we wouldn’t want our best pitcher pitching against the Red Sox.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

Girardi was in a no-win situation.

if he takes CC out, he’s micromanaging.

if he leaves CC in, he’s feeding him to the dogs.

    • Not So Angry Again Axl

Precisely…so batten down the hatches! To the plank!

      • Klemy

N o, no. It’s cool. Swisher is up this inning.

  • Sal

    cc or johan ? Hmmmmmmm

    • http://ryanhandt.blogspot.com/ handtius

      CC

    • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

      Nitpicking.

    • jsbrendog

      cc

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Actually, the choice is between CC + Hughes + Kennedy + whoever else or Johan. I’ll take a former eight days a week and twice on Sundays.

      • GG

        but teh playoff streak !1!!

    • Sweet Dick Willie

CC. All he cost was money. Johan would have cost the farm system.

Not to mention that anyone evaluating that after four starts is EXTREMELY short-sighted.

  • A.D.

    Gotta get some runs….again.

  • Drew

okay, let’s see if Coke wants a win.

  • Angry Again Axl

Here goes the game. Our bullpen stinks badly.

    • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop
    • pat

You’re starting to be really bitchy again. It’s getting on my nerves.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Can you please stop changing your handle? Stick to one like everyone else, or you can go to LoHud and change it at a moment’s whim.

      • Angry Again Axl

I don’t see what the big difference is? I’m not pretending to be anybody else…it still says Axl in it. I believe your local supermarket is having a sale on diapers

        • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

It’s ironic that the guy who cries the season is over whenever the opposing team gets a hit is telling me to get diapers.

Stop changing your handle, we don’t have very many rules but that’s one of them. You were asked nicely once to stop, next time you get banned.

    • Sweet Dick Willie

      Go away you negative Nancy.

    • jsbrendog

dude, yourw worse than jeckyl and hhyde

  • Angry Again Axl

First walk-off in the new stadium??? Whattaya think??

    • Chris

The Yankees have 2 innings to score before it would be a walkoff. They’ve scored in 4 of 6 innings today. I guess they end up with 11 runs.

      • Angry Again Axl

See, this is where the negativity comes from. I say something positive and people attack me…so back to negative it is…

  • http://www.teamnerdrage.com leokitty

who do i have to pay to get girardi to not put cc back in games when he’s over 100 pitches and getting by on the skin of his teeth?

  • Matt-Pitt

Nice way to start the inning, Robby.

  • Tim
  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

Man some of you guys seem to have no faith sometimes…

  • pat

Swish really makes em work, I love it.

  • gxpanos

Just got home. Was there any reason, what with an off day tomorrow, that CC pitched into the 7th?

  • Matt-Pitt

Solid way to start the inning. Gotta get at least one here. Be nice if we could blow it open though.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Swisher with a selfish, rally killing walk to put the go-ahead run in scoring position.

    • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

      Him and his be-damned base-clogging!

    • A.D.

      Base-clogger.

    • BigBlueAL

      Typical Arod at-bat. Un-clutch.

  • Klemy

Another, typical, 7 pitch at bat for the master.

  • Joey

I think I say this every game, but I heart Swisher ABs

  • Drew

    C’mon Dekster!

  • http://eemack.blogspot.com Eric

Every time Oakland scored the Yankees responded with 2 runs…

    Just saying

  • Drew

    Hideki on FIYA!!!

  • Matt-Pitt

    Bases loaded…

    Deliver, Melk Man.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

    Bases are loaded…

For Melky and Ransom. What’s the odds one of them GIDPs?

    • jsbrendog

      who has no faith?

    • Klemy

Conme on Rebecca…remember what you said about faith? ;)

  • pat

Too many bullshit hits have landed for us to lose this game.

  • Angry Again Axl

    Hit-deki

  • Alex S

cano looked kinda funny when he threw all those seeds into his mouth just right now

  • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

Heh, it’s just one of those days.

BUT TOOO BAD THE BULPEN SUX AND WE CANT BUY A WIN…this games a freakin riot

    –Axl

    • Angry Again Axl

Whoever said that is a genius!

  • A.D.

    Opposite of band-box?

  • Angry Again Axl

Melky grounds into DP. Ransom strikes out.

    • Joe R

      Bo’s cousin?

    • A.D.

As long as its not a DP to home i’ll take it.

      and he K’s

    • Angry Again Axl

      Ok maybe other way around…

    • Sweet Dick Willie

Wrong on both counts. That makes like what, at least a dozen times today you’ve been wrong.

  • Drew

    Here’s my boy!!!

  • Joe R

    Please god no Ransom…

  • Dave

Need to take one for the team there Melk

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    Of course. Fucking Melky.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

Whoa Melky, what the heck was that?

  • pat

The fucking catcher had to jump to catch that.

  • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

Unfortunately, that is the Melky we all know.

  • Alex S

he’s trying to go yard each at bat….

  • BigBlueAL

Will the real Melky please stand up.

  • jsbrendog

ransom will come through if melky doesnt

just a godammed fly ball to the oufield!!!! please!!!

    • jsbrendog

come on brett! for the love of MO!

  • Matt-Pitt

    Awful at bat, Melky.

    Gardner, come on dude.

  • Yankee1010

Kill Ransom if he walks out of the dugout. Then kill Girardi.

  • Joe R

You know youre not playing well when Gardner is pinch hitting for you…

    • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt

I was just about to say the same thing.

      • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt

        Same shit, different batter.

  • http://ryanhandt.blogspot.com/ handtius

damn melky. he looked good at the plate all day. what happened.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Gardner pinch hitting for Ransom with the bases loaded in the late innings. How did it come to this …

    • Angry Again Axl

      Depth mang, no depth

  • Traded to Philly

Oh sweet Jesus here we go.

  • Klemy

  • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

    Gardner to PH. Suicide squeeze?

  • BigBlueAL

How bad must Ransom feel that he gets pinch-hit for by Brett Gardner.

  • BJ

why can’t these guys take one for the team/

    • BJ

Seriously tho both melk and Gardner could have just turned a little and got HBP to take the lead

  • http://eemack.blogspot.com Eric

How insulted would you be if Brett Gardner pinch hit for you?

  • Jamie

i say go for the squeeeeze

  • Yanks Fan

It would be nice to have Nady coming off the bench in this situation.

  • Yankee1010

Derek Jeter: Jesus Christ guys, am I going to have to do it all by myself. Bases loaded and 0 outs and still not doing it?

  • Angry Again Axl

HAHA This is priceless. If this right here doesn’t sum up the first month…I don’t know what does.

    • Yankee1010

Axl, they’re 8-6, shut the fuck up.

    • http://ryanhandt.blogspot.com/ handtius

ummm, above 500 record? getting enough enough runs to score? ahhh, jeter’s clutchness?

    • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

You’d be bitching if the Yanks were undefeated right now. Just stop, jesus. At times, I think you’re a Yankee fan and at other times I think you’re a Sox fan that comes here to bust people’s balls. Your comments for the most part – useless.

  • Joe R

Yankees are greedy. They want to hit the solo hr to win the game. Screw this RISP crap.

  • jsbrendog

need for a bench bat. high.

  • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

Jeter will walk in that run. You read it here first.
