• Accent Shallow

I had a bad feeling about Coke pitching to Pedroia, but that works.

    • Chip

I’m right there with you, Coke couldn’t really throw him anything but fastballs or try to get his second-rate changeup over

  • JobaWockeeZ

Hey it’s the top of the order. I have a gut feeling we’re gonna put up some runs.

    • southernyankeefan

that feeling in your gut…..could be gas.

I like the Yankees chances in a battle of the pens.

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ Artist formerly known as ‘The’ Steve

Boston’s pen is much improved. Probably a little better than the Yankee pen.

  • Drew

All’s well that ends well! Let’s get Coke a win!

    No complaints here.

  • Joey

    Heh: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=640402&sec=mls&&cc=5901

“Mention those empty seats at Yankee Stadium at your own risk.

    Don Garber did.

A day after the Major League Soccer commissioner raised the subject, New York Yankees president Randy Levine blasted back.

“Don Garber discussing Yankee attendance must be a joke,” Levine said Friday. “We draw more people in a year than his entire league does in a year. If he ever gets Major League Soccer into the same time zone as the Yankees, we might take him seriously.

“Hey Don, worry about Beckham, not the Yankees. Even he wants out of your league,” he said.

Star David Beckham has been loaned from MLS’ Los Angeles Galaxy to AC Milan through the end of the Italian Serie A season.”

    And a zing by Levine

    • Drew

      Me like.

  • Drew

Looks like Mo has a little buddy out there in Marte, and Edwar I guess. Hopefully he rubs off on them.

    • AJ

Well Marte does need all the help he can get right now.

  • Manimal

Damn Okajima is on my fantasy team… who do I root for?

    • AJ

Always the Yankees. Is that a serious question?

      • Alex

haha sometimes I take out Red Sox guys from my lineup when they’re playing the Yanks.

    • Joey

If I could stick my hand through the computer and hit you in the face I would

    • RunnerS122

if you don’t know the answer to that question, you probably shouldn’t be here

There is a prefect example why I do not do fantasy baseball.

    • JobaWockeeZ

Lester was on my team. And Beckett’s on my team too. Just hope for the best that their stats don’t suck but the Yanks get the win.

    • Drew

      This question disappoints me.

  • Buffalo Ed

coke is a good pitcher who has, other than 1 or 2 times, been really good for us

    • Matt K

Coke staying in to face ortiz???

  • Alex

When I was playing the Red Sox in MLB 09, Okiedokie gave up a hr to Tex in a 1-1 game.. just sayin’

    • http://www.freewebs.com/ps3tf2/ Double-J

I played the game today too. Joba gave up 7 runs, but we came back on Okajima and Papelbon blew the save. Melky drove in the winning runs with Posada and Swisher on base.

  • Manimal

I hate how an error on the pitcher isn’t an earned run. It should be.

    Come on, Tex Message!

    • Slu

Compared to the game I was at on Weds, this is 100% true.

Marte?” Cmon man,I was just trying to eat.

    Meh I’ll take it.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Would have liked that one to drop, but that extra run is UGE.

  • BklynYank

What a catch. What an RBI !!

  • Drew

    Alright Robbie!! C’mon Melk!

  • Alex

ooo nice play.. but still an RBI so I’ll take it!

  • AJ

Damnit Jason Bay. You would go and only let the Yanks score one run. Jerk.

  • Dave

Ill take it, solid contact and got robbed.

  • zzzzzz

ugh, i forgot the sox have a real left fielder now.

  • Brazilian Yankee

    Can’t waste this opportunity..

  • A.D.

See if Melk can crush one

  • manimal

With ManRam that ball falls in.

    • Yankeegirl49

With ManRam it falls in, but with ManRam they probably dont leave a ton of runners on.

    • Drew

Manny played very shallow, he may have gotten to it.

  • BklynYank

Bury Gardner right here Melk. On the bench that is.

  • Drew

    That’s okay Melkman!
    {insert Melk hate here}

  • Dave

Im pretty sure I just heard David Cone talking about how a mistake to Melky could “ruin his night”. What a difference a week makes.

  • Alex

Kay keeps talking about how good Bay is in the outfield, so I just looked it up on fangraphs. He actually has a -6.7 career UZR/150 in the OF.

    • Accent Shallow

Thought the story on him was that he was a good outfielder until a knee injury in ’06 ruined his defense.

      • Alex

looking at the stats, he did get much worse after ’06.

    • Brazilian Yankee

Good compared to Manny maybe, but not actually good. That’s what makes that diving catch even more frustrating.

  • A.D.

    Glad I started Uggla tonight

  • Brazilian Yankee

I’m mad, that should have been at least 2 RBI’s for Robbie. Nice AB, at least.

    • Andy in Sunny Daytona

Oh man the fall of David Ortiz is a sweet, sweet thing to watch.

  • Sweet Dick Willie

    Man, I’m loving this Manny-less Papi-less line-up.

        • Drew

          Nah.. me son!

    • Chip

Isn’t it beautiful to see that they essentially have two hitters in their lineup?

    • A.D.

Yeah they went from having 2 elite hitter in Manny & Ortiz and then several very good hitter in Pedroia, Youk, Drew & Lowell who all got better pitches to hit for the fear of Manny & Ortiz. Ans now its more 4 good hitters with Pedroia, Youk, Drew, and Bay.

  • Chip

I’m still just absolutely shocked that Coke is in this game but he’s making good on the confidence Girardi put in him

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

I don’t think the way coke pitched at the end of last year was a mirage.

I think he just had some rough spots early on this year.

      • Jersey

I agree. I think Coke is going to end up a valuable cog. I’m pretty bullish on the pen top-to-bottom frankly, from Albie to Mo.

Albie for one, Bruney for three and the game is over!

    Man, I hope Cody’s okay.

    • Manimal

  • Matt-Pitt

Guess we’ll be seeing Ramiro Pena tomorrow at 3rd.

  • Chip

Uh oh, we might have to call up someone who can hit (or field) to play third!

  • Alex

I’m thinking, since Posada is DH’ing, they wanted someone to be ready to catch should something happen to Molina.

  • Brazilian Yankee

That was a nice play by the midget…damn. If not for some great plays on the field, the Yankees would be up by at least 5 now.

    • Matt-Pitt

This game could have gone either way. Sox and Yanks each had their fair share of opps. Yankees didn’t capitalize on some and the Sox made some great defensive plays. Sox also grounded into a million double plays to kill their innings.

    • Andy in Sunny Daytona

I wanna come down to Rio, drink some caipirinhas and strike out with some beautiful women.

  • Accent Shallow

Seems the Sox are getting lots of gift calls.

‘course, I’m not exactly an objective observer.

    OK Bruney, let’s do this

  • A.D.

What would even be the roster move if Ransom cannot go tomorrow??

    • Slu

I guess they’d have to finally put Wang on the DL, but I think that still would require a 40 man move.

    • Brooklyn Ed

Juan Miranda + someone else? I think Jackson will get sent down since he havent been used.

  • Dave

Poor Ransom, guy cant catch a break.

  • A.D.

    No Bruney Wed or Today?

  • Alex

probably saving Bruney in case tomorrow is just as close.

  • BigBlueAL

Bruney has to be injured somewhat.

    • Chip

      No he doesn’t

  • AJ

Why isn’t Bruney in? He’s been dominant as of late. Get him in the game Joe!

Marte and Mo warming up. No signs of Bruney.

  • Dave

This is begging for some second guessing.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

    Where is Brian Bruney?

  • Chip

Again, shocked about how Girardi is using relievers in this game but it’s working so far. Bruney should be the most rested guy in the pen, maybe they’re trying to save him for work in the rest of the series

    • Accent Shallow

      Kay is positively perplexed!

  • Accent Shallow

    Sit down!

  • A.D.

    Nice K

    • Joey

According to Gameday the 4th pitch should have been strike 3 and the 5th was off the plate inside but called strike 3. Anybody that was watching can confirm/deny this?

      • Accent Shallow

Strike 3 was a bit inside, but Molina framed it nicely.

  • Slu

Sterling just said they asked Cash in the hallway if Bruney was hurt and Cash said he was fine.

  • Manimal

I thought he was saving Bruney for the sox series since he pushed veras 4 innings and didnt warm up Bruney at all.

  • Yankeegirl49

He isnt even in the pen

  • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

Brian Bruney not even in the bullpen? Something’s wrong.

    • A.D.

      very odd.

    • Accent Shallow

I heard Kay say that, but it certainly looked like I saw him sitting on the bench.

  • Alex

O.K I am officially worried about Bruney.

    • Chip

Yeah, there has to be something there

  • Chip

I guess if a guy is rolling, Girardi wants to just keep going with him. Can’t fault that logic

  • Mike

    where is teh bruney?!111

    Where is Waldo? Brian Bruney?

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

Okay, now I’m a little more than vaguely intrigued. What’s going on with Bruney?

  • A.D.

Ugh hitting Green on an 0-2 count, jeeez

  • Manimal

God Damn you Matt Lindstrom .2 inn, 7 ER

  • Mike

damn Greinke is absolutely in the zone. CG shutout with 10 k’s

    • Sweet Dick Willie

Final score was 6-1. No shutout.

  • Matt-Pitt

0-2 pitch and hits em’… weak

  • Drew

Earlier today, Joe said Bruney/Mo were good for 9 outs. I wonder what’s up with Brunes.

  • V

Another complete game from Grienke – 1 unearned run. 4 baserunners, 10 Ks. Absolutely sick.

    • Slu

Glad he is on my fantasy team!

      • JobaWockeeZ

Me too! But Yahoo isn’t updating…
        Anyone else having this problem?

      • BigBlueAL

        Ditto.

      • V

        Me too!

        Of course… Joba is also.

      • tim randle

he needs to be our fourth starter…

SO JOBA CAN GO TO TEH 8TH!!1!!

  • Alex

Wasn’t there someone who wanted Green plunked in the knee earlier in the thread?

  • Dave

    This is Bizzare

  • Brooklyn Ed

    Mo already? seriously?

  • A.D.

    WTF

  • http://9thinning.blogspot.com VO

    What is Joe doing?

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

WTF is going on? Why couldn’t Albie get that last out?

    • Drew

I’m guessing because he hit Green, and has been up in the zone with his FB.

    • Joey

4 out save? I don’t get it either, lost his control on 1 pitch

  • Accent Shallow

What? Why not let Albaladejo finish the batter? Or bring in Mariano beforehand?

  • Drew

why WHY why. Give it up Kay, who gives a shit, he’s making the move.

  • BigBlueAL

is it really necessary to bring in Mo to face Ellsbury??? Panicking a bit are we Joe????

  • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt

Well this is odd. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for bringing Mo in in this situation, but why let Ablie throw a pitch first?

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

    What the…

  • Slu

    Girardi has lost his mind.

  • Alex

Shoulda done THIS against KC the other weekend.

  • V

Ok, this is beyond bizarre. He didn’t even warm up???!

    • whozat

He’s been warming up all inning.

      • Drew

        lol

      • Spaceman.Spiff

I thought he was talking about Bruney.

        • V

          Ja, thanks.

    • whozat

      Still really bizarre, though.

  • tim randle

…so much for not using Mo for four out saves early in the season :P

    • V

Red Sox games are more important than other games.

  • Mike

sucks for ellsbury, only gets 2 strike at-bat against mo

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

It’s JACOBY FUCKING ELLSBURY. Not Albert Pujols.

  • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

Heh, I think Jose Molina screwed up and called a pitch instead of a throw over to first; it looked liked he said “My bad” on the mound.

    • A.D.

Yeah he was smiling about something.

      • tim randle

he needs to quit that smiling and grit up…

  • southernyankeefan

guess he’s not as confident in albie as i thought.

  • A.D.

    Well I’m baffled.

  • Accent Shallow

Even if Girardi really wants this game, I can’t imagine why he’d let Albaladejo throw a pitch, then not finish off the hitter?

  • CT Yankee

    Meet Joe LaRussa

  • Manimal

You know its a Yankees-Redsox game when the DotF is posted before the end of the game.

  • Bryan

Does anyone think something is wrong with Bruney?

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

We all do. Absolutley no other reason he shouldn’t be out there right now.

  • Brazilian Yankee

    Joe G. must be high.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

    Ayayay.

  • Brooklyn Ed

    oh Jeter, not good.

  • Accent Shallow

Oy. That’s exactly the kind of hit the Mariano is prone to giving up.

  • yankeeswisdom

    girardi is a douche

  • BigBlueAL

Obviously bringing in Mo isnt something to criticize him for (although the timing was a bit odd to say the least) but still I have no faith whatsoever in anything Girardi does. I mean I dont even think he knows what the hell he is doing.

    • Chip

The bullpen has been awesome when it’s needed to be this year. They only really blew the one KC game so I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt here

  • MoReifer

WTF is going on. Giradi overthinks everything. Put the stats down, realize JB is throwing well and let him take the inning.

  • Matt-Pitt

Seriously… Why did Girardi make that move?

  • SexyCorey

wow changing the pitcher in the middle of the count what the hell is girardi thinking

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Heh, Pedroia’s almost as tall as Molina squating.

  • Joey H

Funny Bruney isn’t in there. Jamal suspected this the other day.

  • http://mantisfists.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/julius-carry-aka-shonuff.jpg The Honorable Congressman Mondesi

    FUCK YES

  • A.D.

Mo must have told him before the game his arm feels great and he’s good for whatever to nail this one down.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

    Vintage.

  • Yankeegirl49

Sit your ass down you freakin midget.

  • Drew

OMG people, maybe Jose fouled up the sign. I’m pretty sure Joe isn’t “insane” or “high.”

  • Manimal

    Filthy Cutter

  • Joey H

    Mo’s velocity is back.

  • Alex S

    nasty k

  • Accent Shallow

Wow, that looked like a ball.
