Whoops! How’d this get up here?

  • Andy in Sunny Daytona

Who would win in a Scrap Off. Pedroia or Gardner? Pedroia would have to spot Gardner 20 grit points of course.

    • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

      Pedroia by a Pacific Ocean.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Ooo that’s a good one. Both are short, white, bald, lacking oodles of talent … that’s a tough one..

      • Andy in Sunny Daytona

You have to remember that Pedroia was a highly regarded college player in a major conference and Brett was a former walk-on at a shit University.

    • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

Neither. David Eckstein would come out of no where and win.

      • V

        Blegh, beat me to it.

    • V

      Eckstein.

    • V

Is there something about the words ‘gritty’ and ‘scrappy’ that require the player to be white?

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Yes. If you have a black guy that plays like that, he’s exciting and a playmaker.

        • Andy in Sunny Daytona

No. He’s in the minor leagues.

    • Drew

I’m assuming you said fuck Teix in the previous inning?

      • southernyankeefan

tex can swing at the first pitch if he wants to because by the end of the year he will probably be hitting around .290 with over 100 RBIs Melky will be nowhere near that. Plus i like tex.

  • Matt-Pitt

Nope, any hopes that Melky’s improved his approach at the plate are unfounded.

I had high hopes for him, but if he can’t improve his approach, he’s just a fourth outfielder. Shame.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Nice one Melk. You hit those two homers in teh bandbox the other day, by all means, keep swinging for the fences.

  • BigBlueAL

Another 4 runners LOB in the past 2 innings.

          this is also true.

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ Artist formerly known as ‘The’ Steve

Nah, at 217-127 he’d have to pitch another 5 years at a high level to get serious consideration. He falls into the ‘very good, not great’ category with a zillion other guys.

    • BigBlueAL

Moose is a 50X better HOF candidate than Pettitte. Although in a few years if Pettitte continues to pitch and approach Moose in wins that would change their cases obviously.

Walking guys isn’t going to help Andy.

  • Matt-Pitt

    Gotta throw strkes, AP.

  • Brooklyn Ed

Girardi should tell Jackson to warm up. He has to start trusting him.

  • BigBlueAL

I wander if the Yankees starting rotation’s strategy for some reason is to walk hitters on purpose. Because they sure as hell love walking hitters so far this season.

    • Evan

CC and Joba are using it as a ploy.

  • Reggie C.

Is theo’s plan to have josh reddick replace ellsbury?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Probably replace Bay. I don’t think Reddick could play CF, but I could be wrong.

  • V

    Mother FUCKER.

  • Andy in Sunny Daytona

I would say that those were bigger than an A, probably a C

  • Evan

Now is a good time to get Jackson and Melancon in the game. It is April, this games doesn’t mean anything more just 1 of 162 qames. Bettwe now than in September.

  • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

Hell of a time to break out.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

    Motherfucker.

  • Brazilian Yankee

    Horrible, horrible job by Pettitte.

  • BigBlueAL

    Fucking horrible pitch selection there.

  • V

    WTG Andy. Great pitching, man.

  • Matt-Pitt

Should’ve thrown the breaking stuff… C’mon, Andy. Get out of the inning with just that run.

  • Nady Nation

Why the hell didn’t they keep throwing offspeed stuff away?

  • Jake H

That’s why you don’t walk a guy to start an inning.

  • John

    damn

  • BigBlueAL

Nothing like Yankee pitching to get a hitter out of his slump. Although honestly Papi really hasnt done shit this series.

  • Reggie C.

a sox slam will make me turn off the tv.

  • Evan

Ortiz hasn’t made good contact with a fastball all series. Why go to the breaking stuff?

  • http://www.pinstripesplus.com ansky

Any excuse for a Yanks suck chant, the chowderheads drool

  • V

I am so checking the pitch f/x on this inning after the game.

  • BigBlueAL

Did they say his name right???

  • Reggie C.

    OMG

  • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

    Wow.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    Wow, just wow.

  • Evan

    Pathetic. That’s just embarassing.

  • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

This is getting to be rigoddamndiculous.

  • southernyankeefan

    are you fucking kidding me.

  • manimal

    What the fuck.

  • Brazilian Yankee

    Pathetic.

  • V

Pettite = slow to the plate. Period.

Let’s put this ‘he’s awesome at holding runners’ crap to rest.

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ Artist formerly known as ‘The’ Steve

      Posada wasn’t paying attention, either,

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Why, because one batter stole home in a 15 year career?

      • V

Because he hasn’t held a single runner all year?

He has a great pickoff move. But he’s slow as an M-Fer to the plate.

    • Reggie C.

Pettite’s a lefty. his fucking back is turned to 3B.

  • BigBlueAL

    This really is becoming embarrassing.

  • http://www.pinstripesplus.com ansky

awesome…just started getting happy about Mark warming….and then theres that

  • YankMan

That is unbelievable and that is what happens when you are caught asleep at the wheel.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

Well, on the bright side, maybe we’ll see Melancon.

  • Andy in Sunny Daytona

    Good play.

  • Brooklyn Ed

Melancon warming up. oh crap. :D

  • Dave

Just keep the wheels on. Please.

  • BklynJT

That play makes me wonder why Gardner is such a scrub.

  • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

    Just shitting on them.

  • Brooklyn Ed

    wtf Andy.

  • Matt-Pitt

    Horrible…

  • Dave

    Sigh.

  • V

Can we trade our pitching staff?

Rofl, yeah, I’m overreacting, but fucking hell.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

At least Drew’s on my fantasy team.

  • YankMan

    Take Pettite out now !!!!

    • JobaWockeeZ

And use our already exhausted bullpen? Great idea.

  • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

Awesome. My patience for and confidence in the Yankees are both falling. Fast.

    • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

Yea man. It’s rough. Maybe this lights a fire?

My confidence is still pretty high but my patience is running out. It’s getting hard to watch.

      • http://mantisfists.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/julius-carry-aka-shonuff.jpg The Honorable Congressman Mondesi

“My confidence is still pretty high but my patience is running out.”

        I agree, it’s very frustrating.

This is when it’s important to stay off the ledge. It’s April and it sucks to lose like this to Boston, but this is still a very good baseball team at considerably less than full-strength.

I’m not saying people can’t be upset. I’m pissed. I’m just saying – it’s easy to tell people to stay off the ledge on April 5, but it’s moments like tonight when cooler heads have to prevail for the Yankees. It’s not just a matter of there being a lot of season left to play, it’s a matter of taking stock of the personnel and looking forward instead of back. This is still a very good team.

  • Brazilian Yankee

Comon Girardi, make a fucking move. Pettitte is done.

    • JobaWockeeZ

Our bullpen is dead tired. You want this to become a 20-1 game and blame it on Girardi for going to the bullpen?

      • BklynJT

Girardi can do no right, so yes people do expect him to pull Pettitte, and yes they will blame him for runs given up by the bullpen.

  • Reggie C.

This is fucking embarrasing. This team aint the Yanks.

    • http://www.pinstripesplus.com ansky

      preach it

  • Slu

These last two games are embarrassing.

  • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

I know the move worked but…trying to steal home with two outs is not a good risk to take.

    • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

They want to embarass the Yanks.

      • http://mantisfists.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/julius-carry-aka-shonuff.jpg The Honorable Congressman Mondesi

No, they want to score runs and win baseball games.

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ Artist formerly known as ‘The’ Steve

When it works, its a ‘Gutsy play’. When it doesn’t, you’re a complete idiot.

  • Raf

Berroa was playing the Ortiz shift for Drew. i think the dugout was closer to 3B than he was.

    • Andy in Sunny Daytona

You can’t blame Berroa. It’s his 2nd fucking time playing the position in the majors. You blame the coaching staff for not telling him what to do.

      • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ Artist formerly known as ‘The’ Steve

        and what was that?

      • Jake H

Yes you blame Berroa. He shouldn’t have been playing that far off the bag.

        • Andy in Sunny Daytona

Do they not have the entire coaching staff 30 feet away?

      • Raf

i wasnt blaming Berroa, just pointing out that he was closer to where Jeter usually plays. bad play all around.

        • Andy in Sunny Daytona

The Yankees are a poorly coached team.

  • John

    Those 2 walks hurt…like always

  • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

Finally this dude calls a strike on the outside corner.

  • YankMan

The Red Sox can just tape this series and they have a 2009 Greatest Moments highlight DVD that they can sell.

  • manimal

These are not ideal conditions to have your first appearence. Melancon must be shitting his pants right now.

    • Slu

I disagree. The Yankees have nowhere to go but up at this point.

  • Alex S

just saw another highlight of the steal and it looks like Ellsbury tripped

    • http://www.pinstripesplus.com ansky

it sure did. Even when they fall, they score.

  • Dave

Its unhealthy how much I hate just about every guy on their team, you would think they all kicked my dog.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

Okay, it’s still only a three run game, we can still win this….

    Right?

    Please?

    • Steve H

      Yes.

  • BigBlueAL

The Red Sox are just fuckin laughing their asses off.

    • BklynJT

They pretty much humiliated the Yankees in every way this series…and they sealed it with a steal of home.. embarassing

      • Steve H

Baseball is a 5 inning game now?

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ Artist formerly known as ‘The’ Steve

Let’s see if they’re laughing when half the team in on the DL in August.

  • V

Looks like Boston takes April. Hopefully we get the August and September series.

    • John

      and may and october

  • YankMan

    Malancon exhausted? Really dude?

    • JobaWockeeZ

Yeah let’s use Melancon in his first ML start in a situation like this. Seriously you > Girardi. And please at least know his name before you try and epically failing to own me.

  • Drew

    Sometimes ya gotta race!

  • Matt-Pitt

This is one of the most embarassing series I have ever seen. Our closer blows a lead when we should’ve blown it open in the 9th anyway, we play (and so do the Sox and Umpires) one of the ugliest games ever yesterday and today somebody steals home on us and JD Drew actually gets a hit after looking foolish at the plate the past 2 at bats… Lets hope our bullpen can hold em’ for once and our offense gets us back in this game. This isn’t a must win, but every game gets magnified when playing these guys and it would be nice to not get sweeped our first meeting of the season, especially on 2 games beforehand that we should’ve won. C’mon, Yanks. Pick it up, you are all better then this.

    • Matt-Pitt

      swept*

  • Slu

They are still in it. You gotta hope they get some right back.

  • V

Hey Swisher, what’ll it be this time? Watch strike three, or swing at a fastball at your eyes?

    • Slu

      Looks like B.

    • http://www.pinstripesplus.com ansky

this game? or are we already shitting on what amounts to be our best hitter?

      • V

        Wait, what?

I like him, I do. But our best hitter? Huh?

        • http://www.pinstripesplus.com ansky

save Cano, gimme a better option.

  • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

Pettitte’s gotta go back out there for the sixth, right?

  • Ace

I’m making this one comment tonight…

Ellsbury just made us look like a bunch of fools and the Sox have embarrassed us this series.

    Let’s go sweep Detroit.

    Goodnight.

    • BigBlueAL

      Goodnight.

  • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

The MSM is going to ride this steal of home for MONTHS.

  • Rally Caps?

I don’t know what’s missing… but I think it left when Joe Torre did. I wanted Girardi a lot. Whatever the “it” is that’s missing — I don’t so much think it’s Girardi that’s the problem so much as it is not having Torre.

Maybe it’s just an overreaction on my part

    • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

      I think it is.

      • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

Clarify: I think it is an overreaction.

      • BigBlueAL

All I know is if Torre was still the manager after last season and so far this season everyone here would be calling for his head on a silver platter.

    • Dave

Its the fact that here we all sit, waiting for something bad to happen. Theres no more quiet confidence that our starting pitcher will be lights out and carry us, that our bullpen will come in firing lasers and get out of a tight jam, that our offense will come though in the clutch. I watch these redsox games and wonder what will go wrong next…and thats what is different.

  • manimal

If he was out we would all be talking about how stupid Francona is.

    • Slu

IF he was out. Instead it wasn’t even close.

    • Slu

There is a fine line between genius and madness.

    • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

If he was out we would all be talking about how stupid Francona Ellsbury is.

I highly doubt Francona called for that. Stealing home w/two outs is ridiculously risky.

    • giselle

agreed. but it pisses me off that elle-sbury stole home.

  • Angry Axl

In all honesty, how bad is our team? 1-10…10 being the greatest. I say we’re about a 2 right now…we’ve declined quickly down to the embarrassing atmosphere…

    • JobaWockeeZ
      • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

Heh. Just don’t respond, I know it’s hard becase I constantlu respond to him but….. Axl wasn’t around at all during a 1-0, 1-1 game. He can only comment when the Yankees do wrong. It’s like a program inside of him. You won’t see him around here for the Yankees wins, just losses. At least, that is how it seems to me. Funny he shows up right after they lose the lead.

      • JT

        O god, Axl’s back….

  • Brooklyn Ed

    Cano = awesome.

    • BklynJT

I remember reading Mlbtr posters regarding how Cano is washed up and overrated… Hopefully Hughes can also prove them wrong on Tuesday and every start thereafter.

  • Raf

at least Cano has been a bright spot out of this series

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

Right now I feel like Canó is single handedly trying to will the Yankees to win.

  • manimal

I just realized that they brought back the open stance with Cano, didn’t they change that last year? Or am I just oblivious to everything.

    • BigBlueAL

Nah he is getting closed though quick and doesnt have that leg kick anymore. He starts open but then brings his leg back and closes up before striding forward w/o that leg kick. Much simpler at the plate and obviously better results, although even with the old stance he hit pretty damn good too.

  • Reggie C.

posada walks home tonight. he doesnt get to sleep on the bus; hope he’s woken from his nap at the plate.

  • mike

embarassing is if the Yanks dont drill Ellsbury next time up – curtain call??

    • Raf

if they could im sure they would prefer to drill themselves for falling asleep on that play. the blame is all on them.

    • BklynJT

If we want to shut them up, how about our pitchers throw up some zeros. I’m glad Ellsbury took that curtain call. Hopefully the Yankees are as embarrassed as us fans are.

  • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY
