    • Drew

YES hasn’t been right all year. They can’t afford a gun.

  • Matt M.

If the yankees made Hughes scrap his slider, why didnt they do likewise with Joba? I know joba’s is a plus plus pitch, but word was that Hughes’s slider was his best coming out of HS.

    • Kilgore Trout

Good question. Maybe because Hughes was a lot younger when he was drafted.

      • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ Artist formerly known as ‘The’ Steve

        Yep.

Hughes had a great slider and he may dust it off again at some point. But sliders are best thrown at a 3/4 arm angle whereas Curveballs have the best break when thrown over the top. So if he dropped down to 3/4 for that one pitch, its a dead giveaway to the hitter what’s coming.

The way he could bring it back is to do what Coney and El Duque did, throw all your pitches from different arm angles. But I think the Yanks would have a heart attack if he did that at age 23.

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ Artist formerly known as ‘The’ Steve

Hughes was 18 when they did that, and it was after an elbow injury. The slider is thought to put extra stress on the elbow, so team will scrap it in favor of a curveball for young pitchers.

Joba never had a bad elbow, and was older when they drafted him.

  • dkidd

    89 MPH?

Yeah, when the Yanks played that game last year in KC where IPK didn’t start the rain-delayed game, Cone said that a starter wouldn’t appreciate being “jerked off in the bullpen” by not knowing when he would be going in.

          I remember that.

  • dkidd

that sound you hear is the new york yankees coming to life…

  • Happy Axl

    Joba to the pen!

    Ha! Just kiddinggggg

    • Joey

Your mood swings are much more drastic than a women during menopause

      • Happy Axl

        “We’re all a little crazy sometimes…”

    Hello, Joel Zumaya.

    WELCOME TO THE THUNDERDOME.

    • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

      Get the G Hero out.

  • Ivan

For every out or K Joba gets, Francessa is screaming, “What da fuck, hit this guy”

  • Accent Shallow

Screw you on general principle, Joel Zumaya

  • Happy Axl

The Yankees pitching well and hitting the ball at the same time, the Red Sox losing, and Jon Lester seeing his ERA climb each game…

It really can’t get much better…for an April baseball day

    • Bob Stone

It can get better – The Rays are losing 4-0 with Scott Kazmir pitching

      • Happy Axl

        YES!

        • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

          Remember this mental state, Axl.

Remember it. Put in in your heart and keep it close.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Man, Zumaya’s still getting it up there even after shoulder surgery.

    • A.D.

Well he did lose 5 MPH on the heater, he just had that much to lose.

  • http://www.nowlive.com/desktop/default.aspx?id=100330797 Joey H

I went and recorded David Cone saying “Jerking off.” He knew it was a fail too.

    • Bob Stone

I missed it – What exactly did Coney say?

      • http://www.nowlive.com/desktop/default.aspx?id=100330797 Joey H

Joba was getting excited and moving too fast and Posada said slow down and then Coney said something about his shoulder is jerking off.

  • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

Joel Zumaya dropping breaking balls for strikes should be illegal in the Continental U.S.

  • Tom Zig

According to gameday Zumaya throws 99MPH 2-seam fastballs.

  • Happy Axl

Zumaya is gone for over a year and his velocity stays exactly the same. Joba has one regular off season after a few months of being a starter for the first time…and his velocity all of the sudden was an “issue”. Although tonight he’s up around 95 which isn’t bad

    • whozat

after a few months of being a starter for the first time the all but a year of his baseball life.

      Fixed that for you.

      • Happy Axl

How do you use these strikethroughs and such? I’ve put the beginning part but it strikes through everything…how do I get it to stop after a certain word

        • JobaWockeeZ
          • JobaWockeeZ

I hope the Jays aren’t this years Ray’s. It was competitive enough..

            • Happy Axl

What I don’t understand is how the majority of their good pitchers are on the DL and we got Burnett…yet these fill in guys this year are seemingly doing a better job?? Do they really have this much starting pitching???

They are usually in contention…they’ve just gotten injured beyond belief the past couple of years. The Yankees and Sox have too…but they have enough to get around it for the most part

              • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

It’s because you’re constantly looking for pattern and predictability when the world is full of randomness and chaos.

        • whozat

          </strike>

          • Happy Axl

You put that both before and after the word?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=15305165&ref=profile Doug

He’s been playing the shit out of Guitar Hero Metallica, his arm strength is through the roof.

  • Happy Axl

These ESPN announcers have been pretty ruthless with the Yankees today (not that they’re ever NOT bias against them). But it’s been pretty bad…

    • JobaWockeeZ

LOL. Joba is owning we’re up by 7. WTF are those retards saying now? This is why I stay at YES.

      • Happy Axl

I don’t get YES…and and actually…ESPN thinks I do get it so it blacks it out…so I’m actually up in MA watching it on ESPN at my Dad’s house…I’ve had to listen to it on the audio package online the past few years…sucks.

They were talking about Melky Cabrera running to 1st quickly on a routine ground out and how he never did that before. Then Dave O’Brien said how sad it was complimenting on him for doing what he’s suppose to do, etc. Talked about Posada’s ground ball single calling it “lucky” because the runner was moving and the 1B was trying to hold him on…just utter nonsense

    • JT

What’ve they been saying, I’m watching YES

      • Happy Axl

They are giving Joba credit and the Yankee hitting some credit obviously…but they’re making sure to offset it with some nonsense about little things with the Yankees to make sure they get a few jabs in there through out it all

  • http://www.YouTube.com/kevyyankees Kevin G.

So, what have I missed so far?

    • http://www.nowlive.com/desktop/default.aspx?id=100330797 Joey H

      David Cone saying “Jerking off.”

      • http://www.YouTube.com/kevyyankees Kevin G.

No, thankfully, I was up for that.

        • http://www.nowlive.com/desktop/default.aspx?id=100330797 Joey H

Oh good. Then all you missed with 2HR’s from Swish. 4 RBI. Joba’s shaky start. Now he’s settling in nicely.

  • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

Yum, I like one-pitch outs in the sixth inning.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

Aww, Zach Grienke gave up a run.

    • Brooklyn Ed

so his ERA right now is 0.5?

  • southernyankeefan

    Joba is staight dealing.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Joba’s looked fantastic these last three innings.

  • http://www.nowlive.com/desktop/default.aspx?id=100330797 Joey H

Good pitching is contagious. It’s really true. That’s how the Sox started their run.

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

      Momentum is tomorrow’s starting pitcher.

      (As a corollary, 5th and 6th starters >>>>>>>>>> relievers.

      • http://www.nowlive.com/desktop/default.aspx?id=100330797 Joey H

AJ RIGHT? And if so, you can’t really say he pitched horribly against the Sox. He did cruise through the first 4 or what have you. He just couldn’t stop the wheels from falling off. I have a ton of confidence in the feller.

        • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

CC, AJ, Joba, Hughes, Wang, and Pettitte…

Absolutely. I’ll be there for CC’s start on Saturday.

  • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ Artist formerly known as ‘The’ Steve

Tigers playing like they’re double parked.

  • pat

That’s why everybody thinks Robbie is lazy, because he makes ridiculously difficult plays look easy.

    • A.D.

      • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

My eyes tell me that Aaron Rowand and Lenny Dykstra were amazingly awesome centerfielders and Ken Griffey Jr. and Carlos Beltran were utterly average.

  • Joey

5 pitch inning. Thats Melaconian efficiency right there

  • A.D.

Looks like Girardi told Joba he was going to have to watch a loop of Kruk & Phillips saying how Joba isn’t special as a starter and should be in the pen if he didn’t settle down.

  • Bryan

Anyone else think that Joba is locked in? I’m looking froward to his next start, hes looking like his old self.
