If Chamberlain throws 110-115 pitches in a game that isn’t a no hitter or a perfect game, I will be angry.

I have no problem with him getting up that high later in the year.
I meant to qualify that–I meant if he does it more than one or two times, I’ll be annoyed. But, yeah, I’d get annoyed if he did that tomorrow.
It would piss me off even if it were a no hitter. The track record for young pitchers (i.e. less than 25) that have thrown a no-hitter is horrible.

What Coney just said sound unorthodox, but I agree 100%. I’d go with a 6 man rotation to get Hughes into the mix and keep Joba’s innings down.

UZR isn’t really going to tell you whether or not he’s good at receiving throws from the other infielders.
And even bad defensive 1B like Giambi or DelGado are usually pretty good at that. That’s just a matter of getting some reps out there, which Swish probably hasn’t had enough of.

Has anyone been following the game on GameDay? I just checked it out, and although it appears CC hasn’t thrown a fastball lower than 93, it says he has an average fastball velocity of 88.8. Hmm.

Billy Martin, Don Mattingly, Roger Maris and Ron Guidry all say hello.
I wouldn’t have retired Mattingly or Maris. Martin was a special case, but you could argue him either way. Guidry is the only one I think deserved to have his # retired, very high on the team stat lists.
Either way, HOF candidacy is not a requirement to have your number retired. I would hope we retire Bernie’s number regardless of whether he makes the HOF or not just for being such an integral part of a Yankee dynasty. BTW, I’m not advocating that Paul get his number retired, just saying that HOF status has limited weight here.
If Bernie doesn’t get his number on the wall, they should take the wall down.

Kearns over Dukes is worse, since Dukes has shown to be far superior to Kearns. Whiles Upton will probably be better than Byrnes in his career, he hasn’t shown that he will be this year.
Also, the D-Backs are trying to get to the post-season, so at least starting with the veteran is acceptable. Conversely, the Nationals will end up in last place so they might as well play Dukes, who will be part of the future, over Kearns.

I wouldn’t have a problem with the D-Back starting Upton (he needs to see regular at bats). Both Dukes and Upton should be starting. I just think there is no reason to play Kearns, no future with the team, over Dukes, possible starting OF for many years, on a team with no chance at the playoffs.
