Fucking blackout! I’m watching ESPN Taiwan, it has come to that.

  5. mustang says:

CC is all over the place and he still only has given up 3 runs.

  6. Mike Pop says:

    I blame A-Rod.

  7. Kilgore Trout says:

Can I blame that triple on Nady being a terrible Right Fielder?

  8. Brazilian Yankee says:

I don’t know, our offense could really use a big bat, an A-Rod type player maybe…

  9. Mike Pop says:

    Damn you Mora!!

  10. A.D. says:

    damn Ransom got robbed

  11. Joe Biden says:

    Hell yeah!

    • jsbrendog says:

  14. Reggie C. says:

FINALLY I’VE GOTTEN IN ON THE THREAD!! i’ve been blocked out for over an hour. its easier to get into Marquee.

  15. Mike R. - Retire 21 says:

Ransom would have had that. Mad hops son!!!

  16. E-ROC says:

Uh….how many times will vice president Joe Biden say “Hell Yeah!”? lol

  17. Mike Axisa says:

The fastball command just isn’t there.

  18. Reggie C. says:

    Walk slow Eiland. CC’s laboring.

  19. Smitt Dogg says:

Can someone report on whats going on? Is CC looking ok?

By the way, anyone seen what this Emilio Bonifacio character in Florida is doing? Inside the park???

    • JT says:

He’s struggling to throw the fastball for strikes. A lot of pitches, a lot of balls. Not a good day but still just three runs.

  20. BigBlueAL says:

Yankees bullpen gonna have a workout already on Opening Day.

  21. jsbrendog says:

ugggh these gamecast things SUCK. they freeze up and nothing happens and then in like 10 seconds 10 minutes worth of stuff happens and it goes crazy

  22. YankeeScribe says:

It’s the ESPN curse. The Yanks almost always lose when the game is one ESPN…

  23. Tseng says:

I don’t understand why CC has given up runs. My expectations for him was a CG shutout every start with a few no hitters staggered in there. (sarcasm)

  24. A.D. says:

Damn marketing genius throwing the inaugural season patch on the back of the hat, now I’ll end up buying a new hat.

    • andrew says:

Damn marketing genius logic throwing the inaugural season patch on the back of the hat, now I’ll end up buying a new hat.

  25. Reggie C. says:

On a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the most disappointed, i’m at a 4. Why do the O’s put up such fight?

  26. pat says:

I never noticed that little hitch he has when the ball is behind his back in his windup.

  27. Kaitlin B. says:

What was that about not needing a long-man? Hopefully Alby is up to the job.

    • jsbrendog says:

of course, the first game of the season with the ace out there they might need a long man haha

  28. BBDC says:

Is MLB Gameday off or is CC getting squeezed bigtime?

Its showing pitches in the zone that are being called balls (almost every pitch now).

  29. Manimal says:

    UMP got fucked up

  30. Brazilian Yankee says:

I hate the O’s, I really do. They only play hard against the Yankees.

  31. Angelo says:

    This is getting bad

  32. Manimal says:

Could we see Phil Coke come in for 2 innings?

  33. pat says:

It’s alright baby, as singy just said the Dp is still in order.

  34. E-ROC says:

Damon throwing a baseball will never get old.

  35. Angelo says:

CC needs a K or else..

  36. Mike Axisa says:

    Big DP right there.

  37. Angelo says:

    Or that DP helps lol

  38. A.D. says:

    nice dp

  39. E-ROC says:

That is exactly why we got Tex.

  40. Mike Pop says:

  41. Tseng says:

Texxy earned a little bit of his contract there, catching that DP throw from Jeter.

  42. pandaexpress says:

Is it just the ESPN radar gun, or is CC’s fastball looking a little slow? I don’t think I’ve seen him above 92 all day.

    • Reggie C. says:

mlb gameday has had CC at better velocity than that.

    • Mike Axisa says:

YES has him at 89-90. Gameday and Pitch F/X have him at 92-94.

      • pandaexpress says:

Fangraphs said his average fastball velocity was 93.7 last year. Probably just an Opening Day thing . . . but in combination with his lack of fastball command, it’s why he’s getting knocked around today.

  43. John says:

why did Guthrie choose today to pitch well?

  44. Brazilian Yankee says:

Does CC have a K today?

  45. Matt says:

It would be nice if CC found the strike zone

  46. Mike Pop says:

    His ribs are hurting?

  47. Angelo says:

This isn’t the same Jeremy Guthrie we saw pitching for US in WBC. He just looked aweful and now he’s unhittable>?

  48. Reggie C. says:

    Thank you Damon.

  49. handtius says:

    nice damon…smoke’em

  50. Brazilian Yankee says:

    The offense looks weak still.

  51. CP3 says:

    FIngers crossed for tex hr

  52. handtius says:

    it’s tex time.

  53. Drew says:

Haha Tex taking out the fans one at a time.

  54. Joey H says:

He looks exhausted. (CC) (not closed caption)

  55. handtius says:

    wow…that was a stike…make it worth it.

  56. Manimal says:

One too many cheeseburgers before the game for CC.

  57. mko says:

Looked like a called strike to me, lucky…

  58. JT says:

Wow that was clearly a strike.

  59. jsbrendog says:

according to espn gameast call 4 was just right down the exact middle of the plate….really?

can i get verification of this

  60. Mike Pop says:

  61. Byron says:

got away with one there… time for matsui to ground out…

  62. CP3 says:

    How long will CC last?

  63. Kaitlin B. says:

It’s been disappointing so far, but there’s still time for them to pick it up. Hopefully C.C. can have a nice, easy inning here. (Commercials give me time to be rational.)

  64. BigBlueAL says:

Yankees picking up where they left off last season with leaving runners on base.

  65. Brazilian Yankee says:

Where is the ’09 team? Cause this offense is from ’08.

  66. Mike Axisa says:

Mike Cameron would have caught that.

  67. Angelo says:

    Can’t blame Gardner there.nice try

  68. Kaitlin B. says:

    Easy inning? No. Okay then.

Damn you, Brian Roberts! ::shakes fist::

  69. BigBlueAL says:

    Melky wouldve caught that…..

  70. pat says:

    melky would have had that

  71. jsbrendog says:

well, time to go home. hopefully when i get home its 4-3 yanks

  72. CP3 says:

damn it!!!!!!!!! I miss you melky.

  73. Drew says:

    Someone’s afraid of the wall.

  74. mko says:

Whose idea was it to have an off day in the middle of a series anyway? Stupidest thing ever, and they do it every year after opening day…

    • Mike Axisa says:

It’s to ensure that the people who bought tickets to Opening Day get to see the first game of the year. If this game got rained out, they would have played the first game tomorrow.

If they played say, three games in a row, then the people who bought tickets to Game Two could have seen Opening Day.

    • Spaceman.Spiff says:

It’s in case of a rainout in the first game, not the stupidest thing ever. People who paid to go to Opening day should get to go to Opening Day and if the first game is rained out, this ensures that they still have the Opening Day tickets.

  75. Manimal says:

    This ump is terrible.

  76. Angelo says:

Anyone else think CC wont get out of the inning?

  77. Reggie C. says:

    Take him out.

  78. handtius says:

this ump is rediculous…missing calls left and right and down the middle.

  79. SS says:

    CC’s getting hammered today.

  80. Drew says:

Come on Carsten Charles you got this!

  81. Brazilian Yankee says:

We paid for CC Sabathia but we are getting CC Ponson so far.

  82. MikeyMet says:

Lucky for you guys CC has an opt out clause after 3 yrs. For the Yankees sake you better hope he uses it. Johan on the other hand looked quite nice today. The Mets bullpen looked good too. Textbook would be a good way to put it.

  83. A.D. says:

shaping up similar to opening day last year for CC

  84. Drew says:

This is fucking atrocious. I still think he’ll get through it though.

  85. CP3 says:

quality start is out of the window

  86. Angelo says:

Yeah this is pretty bad. my opening day is nearly spoiled. Lets hope things can turn around very quickly in the game.

  87. Manimal says:

He doesn’t have good stuff. Fine. Then take him out!!!! Seriously, Girardi is already pissing me off.

  88. BigBlueAL says:

We are in 2009 right?? For some reason I feel like its 2008 still….

    • Angelo says:

      2008 cont .. agreed

    • Brazilian Yankee says:

Offense struggling against a not-that-good pitcher and a fat guy pitching and giving up runs left and right… It definately feels like ’08.

  89. Byron says:

he better not pitch like this opening day at the new stadium…

  90. Kaitlin B. says:

It’s not Cliff Lee or Brandon Webb, but it’s sure as heck not decent. So far he has a 9.00 ERA, which is…disappointing, I think.

  91. Reggie C. says:

    C’mon CC. K mora.

  92. Jake H says:

I wonder if he is going through a dead arm period.

  93. Mike Pop says:

Can everyone please stop overreacting right now.

  94. Drew says:

  95. Reggie C. says:

    Thank you Ransom.

  96. zs190 says:

God, the defense is playing horrible too.

  97. pat says:

Jesus Christ hopefully we lose all the bandwagon fans right quick.

  98. Mike Pop says:

    Better off without…….A-Rod.

  99. mko says:

    What an inning…I hate Baltimore.

  100. Mike Axisa says:

Well the defense isn’t exactly helping out either. A-Rod can’t come back soon enough.

  101. shades says:

    put in pena

  102. BigBlueAL says:

Could this game be going any worse????

  103. John says:

lets hope our offense can finally get some runs

  104. Drew says:

A base hit right at the thrid baseman. Interesting.

  105. Will (the other one) says:

Man…tough day for Handsome Cody. Here’s hoping it’s just Opening Day jitters.

  106. CP3 says:

How many people think we lose this game today????

  107. Jake H says:

    great D this inning.

  108. Angelo says:

Is this game out of hand?

  109. Mike Pop says:

So how many columns are going to come out tomorrow that are going to upset us?

  110. JP says:

it is out of hand, mike.

  111. Brazilian Yankee says:

Another run and it’s probably game over..

  112. MikeyMet says:

Joahan beat a weak team? Ok. CC is getting spanked by a weak team.LOL.

  113. JobaWockeeZ says:

    I effing bet on the Yankees today. ;_;

  114. Drew says:

This game is far from over people. Just need to stop the bleeding immediately. Oh, and can we put in Swisher now?

  115. Angelo says:

Well this is why they play 162

  116. BigBlueAL says:

I did a draft last night in The Show (using the Yankees) lost 1st game 14-10 (with Roy Halladay starting for me) then up 4-1 in the 7th inning in Game 2 Brad Ziegler gives up a grand slam to Aramis Ramirez and I go on to lose 6-5.

The real life Yankees are just imitating my fake Yankees.

  117. BBDC says:

Girardi puts way too much emphasis on lefty-righty matchups (see last year automatic Giambi platoon)- Walking Ty Wiggington to face Luke Scott, Really? Really?

  118. Joey H says:

Where are the first pitch strikes? And as a fast note the Gameday gun has him at 93 on his fastball. So please.

  119. Joey H says:

    He looked tremendously nervous.

  120. Reggie C. says:

  121. Mike Pop says:

    Don’t punch anything CC.

  122. Joey H says:

I don’t like how CC catches the ball with his bare hand.

  123. Kaitlin B. says:

Ohhh, walking in a run. This is getting close to a nightmare scenario.

  124. Drew says:

Let’s just throw four sliders in a row to LUKE EFFING SCOTT

  125. pat says:

At least we’re giving Guthrie lots of time to cool off.

    • Angelo says:

I like the optimism.. Albie comes in and gets us out of this inning, we chip away with a run or two in the 6th, hold them and then attack and reclaim the lead in the 7th or 8th

      • pat says:

Not exactly the DP we were envisioning, but it still works. We’re within striking distance.

  126. Mike Pop says:

Not the debut I was hoping for, but that said, it’s a very long season.

Hopefully they can knock around Guthrie a bit and get into that bullpen.

  127. handtius says:

6 straight sliders…can’t get the dude out…well. it’s one game. He’ll be better next time around.

  128. BBDC says:

Argh ok he’s screwed up its time to pull him when a pitcher issues a walk after an intentional walk, then he’s fried.

Hopefully he’ll do better next time around.

  129. Chris K says:

Notorious slow starter. He’s probably completely out of shape, I’m guessing.

  130. BigBlueAL says:

Shit!!!! I just remembered I benched Jeremy Guthrie this week in one of my fantasy teams!!!!

  131. K.B.D. says:

  132. Brazilian Yankee says:

They just pitch to Luke Scott like he was Barry Bonds..

  133. Drew says:

My heart just skipped a beat there.

  134. marc resnick says:

Hey we all saw the Unit go out there and blow away the sox in game 1 of ’05 and look how that turned out… its game numero uno… lets give it a few weeks.

  135. handtius says:

    shouldn’t this be coke’s spot…especially starting with a lefty?

  136. Reggie C. says:

. the grand slam would’ve been pretty hilarious.

  137. Drew says:

    There it is GRIT!!!!

  138. A.D. says:

  139. Alex S says:

  140. pat says:

  141. btour99 says:

  142. TC says:

    Melky who?

  143. shades says:

    thank mo for jorge

  144. Mike Axisa says:

Booya. Now score some fucking runs.

  145. BigBlueAL says:

  146. Another gritgasm. Multiple gritgasm.

  147. A.D. says:

    Classic 8-8-2 DP

  148. marc resnick says:

if he’s healthy he’ll be fine. if he isnt… then we’re fucked lol for many years lol cc had a rib cage to start 06 then went on to win the cy young.

  149. Brazilian Yankee says:

    Beautiful throw by Gardner.

  150. handtius says:

nice. people are going to test the grit until they learn. don’t mess with grit or you’ll get the grit

  151. Mike R. - Retire 21 says:

  152. gxpanos says:

He’ll be fine. Lets see 8 or 10 starts before we start formulating a negative opinion of him. Everybody has days with control issues.

In other news, Grit Gritner with an accurate throw from the outfield. He’s had a nice game.

  153. Mike Pop says:

    Hip Hip!!

  154. Drew says:

  155. gxpanos says:

Good to have you back, Georgie!

  156. A.D. says:

Guess Posada does have some power post shoulder surgery

  157. Mike Axisa says:

Don’t call it a comeback, we’ve been here for years.

  158. Alex S says:

  159. John says:

  160. A.D. says:

    hahaha ghost tag

  161. Brazilian Yankee says:

How about 5 more of those?!

  162. pat says:

OMG small ball robbies walking WTF is going on.

  163. Reggie C. says:

    Cano walks!!

  164. Matt says:

Over/Under: 5.5 hyperbolic articles on CC’s awful outing.

  165. BigBlueAL says:

    Cano walks on Opening Day!!

  166. Alex S says:

    damn fan

  167. A.D. says:

Heh took Cano 10 games to get a BB last year

  168. Drew says:

Okay maybe I was wrong about Xman

  169. Angelo says:

That was a big hit. lets capitalize!

  170. Andrew Smith says:

Odd to see Cano actually taking pitches.

    Nice rip Nady…

  171. Brazilian Yankee says:

    Nick who?!

  172. Mike Axisa says:

    Cody Ransom … ugh.

  173. The Evil Empire says:

  174. Angelo says:

Our savior is up to bat!

  175. Mike Axisa says:

See … why not PH Swisher there? You need to get that run in.

  176. Drew says:

Come on Grit.. make em work!

  177. Brazilian Yankee says:

To imagine some people thought the Yankees would be better off with Ranson playing 3rd.

  178. Drew says:

    wats happnin cappin

  179. handtius says:

I want to see Cody come around third and jump over a catcher like W. Snipes. He’s got the ups. (put it as a comment on a comment above…stupid)

  180. Brazilian Yankee says:

This is more of the same from the Yankees offense, runner on 2nd with no outs and they can’t get the run home, terrible. I don’t think they have a hit with RISP today..

  181. pat says:

Gurhrie’s location is faltering, this inning isnt over yet.

  182. A.D. says:

    Damnit Nady

  183. BigBlueAL says:

  184. Drew says:

Fucking Jackass. Okay, now u can bring in swish

  185. Mike Pop says:

    X makes me sigh.

  186. shades says:

bench nady now, bring in swish

  187. Andrew Smith says:

    lol… heady play Nady

  188. Reggie C. says:

    Swish wouldn’t have done that…

  189. Brazilian Yankee says:

Great heads up play by Nady..

  190. Drew says:

Really unexcuseable on a 10 hopper. Jeter gets them knocked down before the outfield all the time.

  191. Andrew Smith says:

As bad as a play that was… do any of you really believe Swisher is the answer in RF?

  192. E-ROC says:

Where were you third base coach?

  193. MikeyMet says:

Nice base running. How much is the payroll ???
It is going to be a long year boys. The Yankees are fat “CC”, old and overpaid.

  194. handtius says:

X marks the spot where I hulk smash you in the face.

  195. Yanks99 says:

wouldn’t you bench him if you were a manager? or do you just lay down cause you don’t wanna get injured in a run down? when i was in little league i’m sure i would have been benched if i did what nady just did (and i wanted nady over swish)

  196. Reggie C. says:

Yeesh … Marlins have hit 4 homeruns today.

  197. Brazilian Yankee says:

Brian Roberts and Adam Jones have to be career .800 hitters against the Yankees.

  198. MikeyMet says:

I’m just messin around with your guys. I am happy though that the Mets have Johan and not some fat tub of goo like CC. I’m just sayin.

  199. Drew says:

    Albie ftw

  200. A.D. says:

    Alby doing his best Pettitte

  201. TC says:

Giambi throws that ball into left field

  202. jmas12 says:

I was a Swisher advocate too. And I’ll look past the baserunning mistake by Nady. But run it out man. Don’t just stand there like you have some sense of entitlement. Swisher would have ran. Nice to see Brian Roberts hustle when he gets picked off.

    • Drew says:

yea, and if it was Thompson’s fault he woulda ran all the way home not stop half way and try to make it back.

  203. MikeyMet says:

A pick off !!! That will make the highlight reel !!! Yeah baby !!!

  204. Reggie C. says:

Adam Jones should be wearing a Mariners uniform dammit!

  205. Thomas says:

Wow, I am glad I added Emilio Bonifacio in RAB fantasy before the game. 4-4, 4R, 1HR, 2 RBIs, 3 SB. Damn.

  206. handtius says:

There he his…come get some COKE.

  207. scottnar says:

Nady just seems lazy to me. doesn’t look like he gives it his all on fly balls and now the non-run down move. just in love with this guy

  208. Drew says:

did ya ever suck ** for coke?

  209. scottnar says:

oops not in love is what I meant

  210. pat says:

    I’ll have a coke. -boondock.

  211. btour99 says:

Even though Ransom made that last play, I still felt my anger towards him rising… is this normal?

  212. handtius says:

i think we need some runs. how bout it..runs?

  213. John says:

Have a Coke and a smile

  214. pat says:

    Johnny Damon came to play.

  215. Andrew Smith says:

way to start it off Johnny..

    I love Chris Ray.

  216. Andrew Smith says:

    it’s a ballgame

  217. A.D. says:

  218. pat says:

    naysayers say what?

  219. Reggie C. says:

  220. Mike Pop says:

  221. Drew says:

Holy Shit I fucking love it. Wheres met boy

  222. handtius says:

    Bombs a way!!! asian persuasion

  223. Mike Axisa says:

Should have traded Matsui when they had a chance.

  224. JobaWockeeZ says:

  225. Joey says:

  226. Thomas says:

  227. Mike Pop says:

Matsui going to be Uuugggge this year!1

  228. pandaexpress says:

    There goes Tokyo.

  229. pat says:

I really hope coke comes out for the 7th.

  230. Drew says:

Dave Trembley remembering why he hates life…

  231. handtius says:

In game day, 2 of those 4 balls to Po were strikes. Is this ump a re-re or is game day off?

  232. pat says:

    Oh Firestone, ICWUDT.

  233. flashing007 says:

    I love Matsui.

  234. A.D. says:

Swish hit for Ransom this time around the order?

  235. BigBlueAL says:

Nice to see Posada still has his power/patience combo still in tact.

  236. Mike Pop says:

    Come on Robbie!

  237. Drew says:

If Joe thinks Pena can play third. He might save Swish to hit for gritner later.

  238. Andrew Smith says:

Cano is not a free swinger, per Joe Morgan.

  239. Joey says:

I love me some Robbie with patience

  240. Zaun looks older than Tremblay.

  241. BigBlueAL says:

Swisher better hit for Ransom now with a RHP coming in.

  242. pat says:

So in this grand year of 2009 who gets pulled for a defensive replacement first, Posada or Jeter?

Kinda sucks we all know the answer is neither when we have arguably 2 of the best defenders in the league at those positions.

  243. Jeremy says:

    Sarfate is in your hands.

  244. marc resnick says:

seriously nady is 0-5 vs sarfarte with 4 k’s

  245. Mike Pop says:

  256. Brazilian Yankee says:

I’m glad Nady is the starting RF!! He fits well with the Yankees and their gameplan of stranding runners that reach 2nd or 3rd base.

  257. Mike Axisa says:

Boy, Xavier Nady sure looks like he’d fit right in with those Dynasty Yankees.

  258. marc resnick says:

you dont pinch hit for nady because you need swisher to hit for ransom. If you’re gonna pinch hit for one of them you PH for ransom.

  259. Kilgore Trout says:

I think Nady just moved above Mauer on my list of most hated ballplayers.

  260. BigBlueAL says:

So what r the Yankees so far today with runners in scoring position?? A Damon Sac fly and Jeter’s infield hit which didnt turn into a run thanks to Nady pulling a boner. Still assumin Yanks win this game though….

  261. BigBlueAL says:

  262. Mike Axisa says:

It takes some kind of special talent to walk Melvin Mora.
