  1. So, anyone read any good books lately?

  2. A.D. says:

watch Melky have a great night at the plate

  3. Accent Shallow says:

    Dear Chien-Ming Wang,

Groundballs are good. Line drives and pitches high in the strike zone are bad. Please rectify your mechanics and return to being an effective pitcher. Lock the state.

    Kind regards,

    Accent Shallow.

  4. Smitt Dog says:

Whats the winning percentage right now Mike?

  5. Lanny says:

Great call again on not taking a long man in April.

The way the team has been together the past yrs is criminal.

Especially in April when SP rarely go over 100 pitches.

    • Accent Shallow says:

If you can’t count on Sabathia and Wang, who can you count on?

      • JobaWockeeZ says:

Wtf? Sabathia pitched well his last outing…

        • Accent Shallow says:

Sabathia’s first start was lousy. You don’t take a long reliever because you don’t trust your #1 starter was the point I was making.

        • andrew says:

Yes, but they’ve had the two shortest outings of the year, the only two outings where a long man could have been utilized.

          • Lanny says:

You take a long man because it is april and even great starters only go 6 innings. And some starters go 3 or 4 or heck even 1 like tonight.

It is why Tomko should be here.

  6. Joey says:

Wang to the Minors. TEHHHHH Phil Hughes is on his way !1!!!!1

  7. Yankeegirl49 says:

we look like the team formerly known as the Devil Rays.

  8. Jamal G. says:

God, Lisa Edelstein (Dr. Cuddy on House) is so friggin’ hot.

  9. Kyle says:

    Can we forfeit?

  10. tim randle says:

…so are you guys saying i shouldn’t try and find a place to eat tonight with satellite tv and catch the rest of the game?

  11. Drew says:

Why are we swinging at the first pitches!

  12. Holy crap are we gonna get one baserunner?

  13. Joey H says:

Well on the bright side, Pelfrey is sucking too.

  14. dkidd says:

    mike pelfrey proving verducci correct

  15. Drew says:

    Melky!! :)

  16. Accent Shallow says:

Not a pretty swing from Melky, but a hit is a hit.

  17. Marc says:

This game is a train wreck. I can’t look away because baseball just came back on last week and I still miss it, but I can’t watch because its terrible!!

  18. Lanny says:

trade melky asap while he has some value.

to think they could have had santana for wang kennedy and melky.

    oy vey

  19. Kyle says:

Oh Cody Ransom. You are soooo out of a job in a few weeks.

  20. Wolf Williams says:

I live and work in Taiwan, and am in school right now….. and the Taiwanese are mounting a posse to come lynch me as I sit here slandering their national hero…

Any last insults you guys want me to hurl at them before they fix the rope around my neck?

(*Note: ‘douche bag’ translates nicely into Chinese….)

  21. 9-0 in the second inning.

This is right around the time that Phil Rizzuto would start reading birthdays.

  22. Jack P says:

Jesus with starts like this we better be looking over our shoulders at Baltimore!

  23. John says:

dammit melky, save your hits for another time…what a great time to get a hit.

Jeter has been saved from MANY DPs this year already

  24. McCaff says:

i didnt read all the other comments, but how many times has Arod been blamed yet since hes come back?

  25. Kyle says:

    Double digits. Woo!

  26. Drew says:

    okay so now Albier sucks.

  27. Accent Shallow says:

    Oy.

  28. Wolf Williams says:

Can we send Wang and Melky to San Diego for Peavy? Or can someone just call immigration and get Wang deported?

  29. Over under on chance the Rays score 30?

  30. Lanny says:

they are screwing up jonny alba like they did ohlendorf last yr. by making them long men which isnt their role.

    • Drew says:

lol his first pitch was a home run. wat are you talking about

    • A.D. says:

Well they might do that, they haven’t yet, last year they put Ohlendorf in that situation numerous times, tonight if the first time they have for Alby, but realistically he is just taking one for the team, because shit happens.

      • Lanny says:

Alby has been the proverbial long man all season. They did that to Ohlendorf last yr and he never recovered. This is why you take a Tomko or an Aceves. To burn up these innings.

  31. John says:

yea thats right, keep wasting your quota of runs TB. I like the way Girardi thinks.

  32. If The Yanks have any pride, they will drill BJ Upton right here.

  33. Idk if it was previously brought up…but we can’t make fun of Carl Pavano anymore…

    • jobaroolz says:

I think it might have been Pavano masquerading as Wang…

      Pavano from last week – 1 IP 6H 9ER 3BB 1K
      Wang from tonight – 1IP 6H 8ER 3BB 1K

      How messed up is that?

  34. If The Yanks have any pride, they will drill Longoria right here.

  35. Wolf Williams says:

Is it okay to slam Wang on this board? Or are we going to get the ‘it’s ONLY seven games!!’ routine from all the people who think that the first 25-30 games don’t really count?

Wang is a No. 5 starter so let’s make Joba the No. 4, but oh, wait…… the pussies who run baseball now have this stupid idea that he can’t throw more than 150 innings. I seem to remember Tom Seaver hurling something like 220+ innings when he was 22 or 23 years old….

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

It’s his second fucking start. HIS SECOND FUCKING START. I don’t know where the hell 7 games came from but I’m pretty sure it’s his second start. People are jumping off a fucking cliff because of two bad starts. Seriously I’m going to jump off a damn cliff if I hear this again.

    • A.D. says:

Just because it has been done, doesn’t mean it should be done.

    • Accent Shallow says:

Any team on which Wang is a legit number 5 would win 120+ games.

And if you were to start lifting weights, would you grab 50 lb dumbbells immediately? No, you start low and work your way up.

      • Wolf Williams says:

Yeah, I forgot… Job didn’t start pitching or even throwing a baseball until he was what, 21 years old?

        • Accent Shallow says:

You still don’t get it, do you? He’s barely made it over 100 innings in a year. Now he’s gonna double that? Christ.

    • Moshe Mandel says:

In what world is a guy with multiple seasons of 19 wins and under 4 ERA’s in the best hitting division in the sport a % guy? In fact, I would struggle to find 10 guys in the AL with more consistent success than him since he entered the league.

    • Joey H says:

Well, the “pussies” are trying to save his arm so he can be an ace in the future. Gee, have I been gone that long? Like a LoHud Spillover.

  36. Doctor J says:

It’s nights like tonight that make yesterday’s loss so aggravating; It would be a lot easier to stomach this fromunda cheese performance if we were riding a 4 game winning streak

    • Wolf Williams says:

Careful, Doc….. the ‘smart’ people here will tell you that yesterday’s loss didn’t really count. Better watch what you say or you’ll be called ‘unintelligent’ and a ‘not a baseball guy.’

      • tim randle says:

        EXACTLY.

it was nowhere near as important as a win in september, which is why Mo didnt throw four outs. against kc.

        • Wolf Williams says:

EVERY win is important. Why don’t we just start the season on August 1st and play 60 games? EVERY win counts, and when your manager tosses away winnmable games by using substandard talent, it matters, regardless of the date.

          • We’ve given you NUMEROUS WELL THOUGHT OUT, INTELLIGENT REASONS as to why you don’t go to Mo there in that situation.

You’ve given us nothing but Herm Edwards speeches about “playing to win the game”.

Girardi’s job is not to win EVERY game. His job is to win enough of the 162 games on the schedule to get us into the playoffs, and then win once he’s there.

The reason we consider ourselves the “smart” people around here is because we back up our contentions with reasoned arguments.

Please show me how what Joe Girardi did yesterday with Mariano Rivera is a bad idea.

  37. Dave M says:

I guess I could always pay for mIlb.tv and watch the AAA game.

  38. mustang says:

“This one hurts with a very good Tampa Bay team and Scott Kazmir on tap tomorrow.”

    Like said Ben nailed it.

  39. Accent Shallow says:

Boy, do I love seeing Longoria fail.

  40. Kyle says:

Michael Kay is starting to piss me off. He cheers for the Rays more than the Yankees.

  41. Well we got a hit last inning. Maybe we’ll get a run this inning.

  42. Joey H says:

Well for some comedic relief…. VIA LoHud Comments..

Mr Yankees April 13th, 2009 at 8:14 pm

is this idiot 4 real i could throw more stricks then him nd am 14 years old unbelivable

…. Don’t smoke when you’re pregnant ladies.. please.

  43. Smitt Dog says:

My dad used to say, “if you’re going to fuck up, fuck up going down in flames.”

And when Dad got that plum job flying the Hinderberg, I knew he was gonna be alllllllll right.

As long as the Yanks are going to lose this one, I’m in favor of em just letting it all hang out. Make it a crazy laugher, pitch BP for all I care, its just numbers. Ruin someones fantasy season, I don’t care.

  44. Kaitlin B. says:

Is it possible that Wang has just met his end as a statistical anomaly?

He’s had slow starts before, but this outing is the least time he’s spent in a game since the 2.2 innings he threw against Toronto.

  45. Drew says:

This game is fuckin up Swishas mojo

  46. John says:

God I hope we score only one run and TB keeps scoring. We need to save our runs for tomorrow while wasting their runs.

  47. pat says:

God do I wish Arod hit that.

  48. Nick Swisher alone my save this team.

  49. Kaitlin B. says:

    SWISH!

There goes the shutout. At least they have a little bit of honor now.

  50. The Evil Empire says:

    - 9

  51. Smitt Dog says:

Don’t call it a comeback, I’ve been here for years.

    Jorge says No!

  52. Brazilian Yankee says:

    Here comes the rally!

  53. Joey H says:

So much for a rally. Nady is useless.. HEH.

  54. Drew says:

    Nady is TEH SUXOR

  55. Accent Shallow says:

Nady really is a GDP machine.

  56. pat says:

Forgive me if this was posted in the previous thread but, dope espn article about how nomaas sponsors curt schiilings B-Ref page-

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/.....id=4063696

  57. Reggie C. says:

just got home from work. wow. glad i decided to do OT hours.

Wang fucked us on this one.

  58. Smitt Dog says:

I just know this headline will eventually be written:

Weak Wang Requires Handy Joba in Eighth

  59. Phrancis says:

    Sucky Ransom

  60. And that’s the game in one play.

  61. Lanny says:

I think this can end the Ransom Experiment.

Just put Pena there and let him play for 3 weeks.

  62. Klemy says:

I don’t want Ransom sent to the minors, unless “the minors” is a chain of islands somewhere in the Bermuda Triangle with no way back.

  63. desus says:

Is there a record for spillover threads?

  64. Phrancis says:

    WoooHoo!! Ransom caught a ball.

  65. Joey H says:

Mary my words. Johnny Alba is the next Mo Rivera.

  66. Jamal G. says:

    Daniel Murphy is fucking awesome.

  67. Nate says:

I hope that Albaladejo doesn’t get his arm abused – I don’t know if I’d look at him as a long reliever type – don’t we have Coke for this job?

  68. Phrancis says:

Wang is a Meek lamb. Not Gritty enough to be a Yankee.

  69. Mike Axisa says:

    Haven’t done this in a while …

The Yankees will bring the tying run to the plate in this game.

  70. I’ve had it with these slow starts.

I WANT JOE TORRE FIRED THIS VERY MINUTE!!!!

  71. Jamal G. says:

I’m really starting to dislike Cody Ransom as a human being.

  72. Phrancis says:

Wang is a Meek lamb. Not Gritty enough to be a Yankee. Gets kicked right in the Gutt if his sinker is not working. Seems like he’s not trying something different.

  73. Mike Pop says:

    Melky gets his boy home!

  74. …MElky Cabrera is 2-2.

    What fuckery is this?

  75. Jamal G. says:

When David Eckstein has a multi-extra-base-hit game, you deserve to lose.

  76. Quikksand says:

This is absolutely terrible. The Yankees look LOST…., you could give them a map, and they still won’t know where they would be.

  77. Tom Zig says:

Good job, Albaladejo. There is no need for him to go four innings. Send out Coke again, let him regain some confidence.

  78. Evan says:

Mark my words. Pena starts at 3B tomorrow, he goes 2 for 5 with an RBI and a stolen base. Wednesday or Thursday, Ransom will be in AAA and Robertson will be in the bullpen.

  79. There’s really, imo, only one reason the Yankees lose today’s game and that’s because Wang was just flat out awful.

It’s hard for a team to do something when their starter is responsible for what was it, 9 ER?

  80. Alex says:

That was a good job by Yabadabadejo. Ate up a lot of innings.

  81. Moshe Mandel says:

Gameday lists Edwar’s outpitch as “four seam.” That is the end of using that little gimmick.

  82. Alex says:

    HAHA Edwar “Johan Santana” Ramirez

  83. I can’t believe it’s still only the fifth inning!

  84. pat says:

That kid was drilling those pitches.

  85. Alex says:

    C’MONNNNN

  86. pat says:

God, the fucking rays make us look so terrible in every aspect of the game. Harder better faster stronger

  87. Jamal G. says:

    God damn athletic outfielders.

  88. Jake H says:

I wonder how many comments we can post tonight. I’ve checked out the minor league scores more then the Yanks score tonight.

  89. The Yankees will bring the tying run to the plate.

    Sometime around next thursday.

  90. Brazilian Yankee says:

Damon would have probably hurt something trying to catch that ball.

  91. Drew says:

    The New Era is HERE.

  92. Moshe Mandel says:

Just as an aside, Zach Greinke is awesomeness.

  93. pat says:

Well that certainly closes the door.

  94. Drew says:

    Ramiro shoulda snagged that one.

  95. Mike Axisa says:

So is Pat the Bat going to annihilate the other NY team now that he’s out of the NL? What a jerk.

  96. Drew says:

Atleast we got Aj goin tomorrow

  97. dc1874 says:

Someone call up Mike Mussina..I think he’s living in Florida nowadays…maybe he can fill in the rest of the series…

  98. Accent Shallow says:

Edwar taking one for the team

  99. matt merc says:

who thinks phil should take over for wang

    • Moshe Mandel says:

Who thinks phil should take over for matt marc, who apparently writes for yankees.com?

    • pat says:

      no thanks.

      • matt merc says:

wang hasn’t thrown a decent game yet this entire spring he needs to be sent down to figure himself out cuz when hes bad he friggin sucks and immediately looses the game for us

    • Accent Shallow says:

I’m as big a Hughes fan as anyone, but the only spot that he’ll be taking is Joba’s, assuming no one gets hurt.

    • Moose Man says:

      HERE. HERE!

Get Wanger outta there. I can’t stand him anymore – any pitcher who can only rely on ONE pitch doesnt belong in our pitching staff. Period.

He is absolutely killing our bullpen and its only week 1. Get him outta there and give Hughes a shot. Wang has no future on this team and Hughes obviously does. I find it startling that GM’s could actually have faith in guys who can only throw sinker balls – ever start is literally a roll of the dice.

The only justice is that Pena’s GS will be charged to Wang’s ERA, where it belongs.

p.s what the fuck was Cashman and/or Girardi thinking not carrying a long reliever on this team???

      • steve (different one) says:

where is Mondesi to call the “this place is turning into LoHud” meme a strawman?

      • Moshe Mandel says:

Wow. Your foresight is spectacular. Lets give up on a guy who was 46-15 with a 3.74 ERA over the last three years in order to insert a guy who couldnt get a win last season, due to two bad starts. I am stupider for having wasted my time reading your comment.

      • “–any pitcher who can only rely on ONE pitch doesnt [sic] belong in our pitching staff. Period.”

Ok. So I guess you hate Mariano Rivera as well???

      • Mike Axisa says:

Oh knock it off. If Wang had two bad outings back to back in June or July, you wouldn’t give a shit. But because it happened early in the year, ZOMG teh Wang SUXXX11!!

    • steve (different one) says:

i’m not sure. dropping Wang from the rotation might not be severe enough.

  100. Accent Shallow says:

We may see some massive bullpen shuffling tomorrow. Albaladejo is almost certainly gone, and after 50 pitches, Edwar may be too.

Not to mention whoever is pitching innings 7-8-9.

    Who’s coming up? Jackson? Claggett?

  101. matt merc says:

    moshe what does that mean

  102. Jamal G. says:

Wow, seven seasons in and 24 still delivers the surprising twists.

  103. Jamal G. says:

    Chloe is awkwardly hot.

  104. dc1874 says:

Just remember…every team wins 50 games..and every team loses 50….Yanks have 46 of these left…

  105. Jamal G. says:

Heh, how awesome would it be if Duaner Sanchez pitches a perfect eight here for the Friars?

  106. Alex says:

why would he throw him a cut-fastball instead of another big curve. Ransom hasn’t hit one yet.

  107. A.D. says:

    Ransom awakes.

  108. Accent Shallow says:

What’s higher at the end of the year: A-Rod’s BA, or Ransom’s SLG?

  109. pat says:

Wow listen to these cocky f*ckholes with their Yankees Suck chant. Ray fans are such new money trash.

  110. Jamal G. says:

Duaner Sanchez to the Mets: “… Pendejo”.

  111. Holy fuck Phil Coke why couldn’t you get that pop up yesterday?

  112. Accent Shallow says:

Sure, Phil Coke can get one out in this game.

  113. Jamal G. says:

Heh, Jacoby Ellsbury was benched tonight because Dallas fucking Braden is on the mound. MVP candidate, right, Peter Gammons?

  114. steve (different one) says:

if our own team wasnt getting so brutally beaten, now would be a good time to mention that Lowrie is going on the DL and the Sox are calling up Gil Velazquez from AAA.

  115. Jamal G. says:

Heh, Joe Girardi looks like he’s going to fuck some shit up.

  116. Zack says:

nice play guys, never seen 4 infielders try to get the same ball with 2 guys on base

  117. pat says:

    Thank god for DoF

  118. Mike Axisa says:

Cody Ransom should pitch the 8th. Seriously.

  119. Mike Axisa says:

Nick Hundley just pwned that fan. “$13,000 for this seat and I get put in a headlock by the catcher? Awesome!”

  120. Drew says:

This boy Coke got a glass jaw.

  121. UWS says:

Mets get pwned by two former Mets. Awesome.

    • Matt says:

Did you hear the Eckstein suck fest in the 8th? My god it was incredible. If the dude were taller, he’d be any other below average player.

  122. Nate says:

Ugh. This is disappointing. Please let this game be mercifully over soon.

  123. Mike Axisa says:

I really enjoyed watching Duaner Sanchez and Heath Bell close out the first game in CitiField. Karma, bitches.

  124. Wolf Williams says:

When is it appropriate to start using the Coke Zero nickname for this loser?

  125. Jamal G. says:

Heh, so Duaner Sanchez and Heath Bell come into Citi Field and does what the Mets paid $37M (K-Rod) and a handful of players (JJ Putz) for.

  126. YankeeJosh says:

Just think how much better it would be for the team if we had Joba to pitch the 8th for us tonight!

At least it’s just one loss, and certainly less painful than yesterday’s game.

  127. pat says:

Swisher is just a obp padder.

  128. Mike Axisa says:

Nick Swisher … never say die. Work that walk baby.

  129. Matt says:

Nick Swisher is the reason I wake up in the morning.

  130. Jamal G. says:

Cool, so we get to test Joe’s theory again tomorrow.

  131. Quikksand says:

10 more runs YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!

  132. Jamal G. says:

    Holy shit, this is awesome.

  133. Mike Axisa says:

If Swisher gets hurt, I will personally strangle Girardi.

  134. pat says:

    holy fucking shit

  135. Raf says:

this has just reached levels of embarassment that shouldn’t be approached

  136. Jimmy says:

    Nick Swisher is teh awesomest!

  137. UWS says:

I never thought I’d see this.

  138. Jamal G. says:

So, ESPN’s favorite to win the Cy Young over Doc Halladay and CC Sabathia, Jon Lester, is getting hit around… again.

  139. Ahinds says:

    side arm!

  140. Eirias says:

Nick Swisher’s out pitch is listed as “Changeup.”

  141. Mike Axisa says:

Hah, he struck someone out! Awesome.

  142. Jonathan says:

I offically dont care about the loss now that nick swisher struck out a ray

  143. UWS says:

I will laugh if Swisher throws a scoreless inning.

  144. Tony says:

    Joe must go

  145. Raf says:

he needs to stop with the sidearm stuff. just get the ball over and dont hurt yourself

  146. Reggie C. says:

    Swisher > Wang

  147. Mike Axisa says:

    So who’s at first?

  148. YankeeJosh says:

I think we’ve found our new 8th inning set-up guy!

  149. Smitt Dog says:

I always hated Nick Swisher, but I’m starting to come around on this dirtbag. He’s a little bit of the anti-Yankee, which is moving from annoying to at least interesting.

  150. Eirias says:

He’s mixing 77 mph Changeups with 78 mph Fastballs.

  151. tarik says:

omfg SWISHER FOR MVP AND CY YOUNG

  152. Yankeegirl49 says:

How crappy must Kapler feel right now?

  153. Mike Axisa says:

Hah, best hitter and best pitcher of the night.

  154. zzzzzz says:

    SWISHER=GOD

    hahahahaha, ah man.

  155. BigBlueAL says:

Swisher should start Saturday for Wang.

  156. Eirias says:

That made my night. It wasn’t hard, but still.

  157. Jamal G. says:

Jason Bay was supposed to bring the Red Sox together with his white… err, grittiness, wasn’t he?

  158. UWS says:

    This was awesome.

  159. Reggie C. says:

I wonder if Swisher is the first position player to homer and strike out an opponent in the SAME GAME.

  160. Mike Axisa says:

I think we found a new 8th inning guy.

  161. Lanny says:

Wang should take pitching lessons from Swish.

I cant wait to hear how Wang has figured out his mechanics and his arm slot and etc etc etc.

  162. Swisher's Evil Empire says:

    Changed my name

  163. Rafael says:

Swisher, the only Yankee pitcher today that dont gave a Run

    how about that?

    i’m smilling to not cry!

  164. Jamal G. says:

Jon Lester shitting the bed is capping this night on a high note.

  165. Tom Zig says:

Swisher is now my favorite player.

  166. Elle says:

How anyone can not love baseball after watching something like this, I do not understand.

    ♥ Nick Swisher.

  167. Mike Axisa says:

Now they need to score 11 runs to get Swish the win.

  168. southernyankeefan says:

    this game is comical

  169. Reggie C. says:

Lester’s given up 5 runs in 1.2 innings. Go Athletics!

  170. BigBlueAL says:

OMG I just read that Isiah Thomas might become head coach at FIU (Sun Belt school here in Miami, Mike Lowell’s alma mater). I went there for a year or 2, or 5, but anyway if he gets hired Im going to a game and for sure will get kicked out by security because of all the shit I will yell at him for ruining my Knicks.

BTW good thing I had a game to ump tonight and didnt have to watch much of this game.

  171. Omar Little says:

i wonder if the “Joba to the bullpen” crowd will demand that Swisher be moved out of the lineup so he can pitch the 8th now…

  172. Lanny says:

Girardi wont last til June. If this team is 20-20 hes a goner.

    • Matt says:

So has a positive thought ever entered your brain?

    • steve (different one) says:

      BOLANNYGRANT!!

    • BigBlueAL says:

If the Boss was still running the team maybe, but no way he gets fired during the season, he is Cashman’s hire. Plus c’mon I am not a big fan of Girardi at all but it is stil waaaay to early, let Arod come back and see where they are at by June then we could start maybe calling for his head.

    • You said earlier today that IPK would never pitch a game in pinstripes, and I said I’d make a wager with you on it.

I will also make a wager with you on this. Joe Girardi will not be fired 40 games into the season, nor will we go 20-20 in the first 40 games of the season.

Three bets. Put your money where your mouth is, Negative Nancy.

    • pat says:

It’s clearly girardi’s fault the starter only pitched one inning.

  173. Matt says:

Nick Swisher is the GREATEST Yankee E-V-E-R.

  174. Brandon P. says:

I couldn’t watch and just saw on gameday that Swisher was pitching…why?

  175. Bryan says:

Where can i get a video of swisher pitching?!

  176. Tom Zig says:

Well the Mets lost their home opener…

  177. VO says:

Today Nick Swisher pitched better than
    Jon Lester
    Chien-Ming Wang
    Koji Uehara

    CY-YOUNG ANYONE?
