    Come on Melk-man!

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Benjamin Kabak

I’m hoping that they’ll let this one go for a few more runs for the Yanks.

  • Sam

Why is Melky bunting when we probably need 2 runs this inning?

    • http://heavysoundsandtheabstracttruth.files.wordpress.com/2008/12/alg_burnett-sabathia-3.jpg Mike Pop

He can’t do much more than that.

      • http://heavysoundsandtheabstracttruth.files.wordpress.com/2008/12/alg_burnett-sabathia-3.jpg Mike Pop

        ….and that’s why.

      • http://liberalmusings.wordpress.com Pablo Zevallos

“He can’t even do much more than that.”

        There. Fixed.

  • Will (the other one)

Can’t be long now–just enough to make it official, no?

  • Chip

OK so we’re down by two in a game that’s about to be called and Melky is trying to bunt?

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

First time round Robbie takes six pitches and gets nothing, second time he swings at the first pitch and gets a hit. Go figure.

  • Tom Zig

Thanks Melky, way to kill a rally.

  • Sam

Maybe the bunt was a better idea

  • Chip

This would definitely be the place for Melky to try to hit one into the short porch

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

    Ayayay Melky.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Benjamin Kabak

Have I mentioned how much I love Melky Cabrera? I fail to see what role he plays on the Yanks right now outside of bench jockey/rally killer. Why bother.

    • El Generalissimo

I think they tried to move him, but there were no takers… other teams probably figured he’d be released. He has regressed so far.

    • ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops

You’re absolutely right. Just cut him, doesn’t matter anyway.

    • Sam

Who would they call up to replace him? John Rodriguez (whom he beat out in spring training) or AJ, who’s had a week of real AAA experience. Melky won’t be an issue once Damon and Tex get back in the lineup

      • http://heavysoundsandtheabstracttruth.files.wordpress.com/2008/12/alg_burnett-sabathia-3.jpg Mike Pop

        Melky is an issue.

  • tim randle

He’s not the pinch running type, he can’t lay down a bunt, and there aren’t many scenarios, thankfully, where he’ll be the best bat off the bench.

Apparently Melker doesnt read RAB while he’s on the bench…

On another note, Robbie swung at the first pitch. Patience over, send back to AAA for a week.

  • Drew

    http://www.wunderground.com/radar/mixedcomposite.asp?region=b3&size=2x&type=loop
Looks like a gap of dry weather is heading for the stadium.

  • Chip

Well, good game guys, cya tomorrow

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Benjamin Kabak

You know baseball games go 9 innings, right?

      • Chip

But can be made official after 5, if I’m the Royals I’d try to get this game called right now before their bullpen can blow it

        • http://www.riveraveblues.com Benjamin Kabak

You can’t “try” to get the game called. It’s completely up to the discretion of the umpires, and any effort to call the game will first be met by the fact that (a) baseball is often played in worse weather and (b) the weather shows a gap so they’d at least delay it first.

That’s a defeatist attitude at its finest!

          • Chip

Well after watching that “hit” go through the right side, I’m a bit pessimistic. But after looking at the radar I think they will get this game in

          • Drew

The Groundscrew also have a say. They are the ones that monitor the radar.

  • Chip

Why is Cody Ransom still getting at-bats? At least Pena’s 0-4 would include some impressive glovework

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Benjamin Kabak

    Good bye, Cody Ransom. GTFO.

  • Sam

Considering how Ransom’s been hitting, what are the odds Pena gets the start at 3rd tomorrow night?

  • John

    Melky+Ransom+Molina+Gardner=Yanks 7-8-9-1=Automatic Outs=Ugh

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

Gardner’s the reason this game isn’t a shut out right now.

      • John

        yea, but usually he is

        • barry

          wanksta

  • Mike

How much longer is Girardi going to fuckin keep Ransom in the lineup? The only thing he can hit is a fastball which everyone refuses to throw to him.

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

      Knowing Girardi, too long.

    • Sam

      He’s Pedro Cerrano without Jubu

    • BigBlueAL

Unfortunately there really arent any other options.

      • Mike

Pena would atleast give them defense and could his hitting be worse?

        • http://heavysoundsandtheabstracttruth.files.wordpress.com/2008/12/alg_burnett-sabathia-3.jpg Mike Pop

Well, you know he won’t give ya the long ball if a pitcher makes a mistake like Ransom might, but I think it’s time to move to Ramiro.

        • http://www.riveraveblues.com Benjamin Kabak

Peña hasn’t ever really played third base. There’s really no guarantee that he can. Unfortunately, the Giants just signed Dallas Macpherson. I don’t know why the Yanks never jumped on that.

  • southernyankeefan

Ransom is awful can pena not do better than this?

  • http://heavysoundsandtheabstracttruth.files.wordpress.com/2008/12/alg_burnett-sabathia-3.jpg Mike Pop

…Miguel Cairo was better than this.

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

      Miguel Cairo was amazing.

      • Alex

I loved Miguel Cairo! He even caught once.

        • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

          Dude could do everything.

          • http://heavysoundsandtheabstracttruth.files.wordpress.com/2008/12/alg_burnett-sabathia-3.jpg Mike Pop

            Except hit a HR.

      • ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops

I’m feeling dirty to say this, but Berroa could not be any worse than Ransom, right?

        • Chip

He’s terrible at shortstop but I’m not sure how he is at third. His batting line the last few seasons would indicate that he’s about as bad as Ransom at the plate. He’d also require a 40 man move

          • ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops

Sure, but could he be worse then Ransom, whose batting line is ugly, too? And the 40-man-roster move would be fairly easy: Release Ransom.

  • Mike

They should DH for Ransom with CC. Let him get those at-bats that he wants.

  • Chip

So when is MLB going to overhaul this scoring system? I mean Joba got absolutely hosed the last inning on that groundball to first. Now that we’re in the era of instant replay, can’t MLB have one central place for scoring errors so there isn’t this absurd hometown scoring?

    • Arman Tamarian

The royals announcers just went on again about the scoring

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

Santana K’d 13 and lost. Dude has no luck.

    • tim randle

he held the ignoble record for most ‘they blew my saves’ last year. i think it was 7 or 8…

  • John

    Pena’s batting 1.000…put him in there!!!!1!!1!

  • BigBlueAL

For you Rangers fans, how do they matchup with Ovechkin and the Capitals?? That is their 1st round matchup for sure right??

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

That’s the matchup. They’re going to have to make sure Staal and either Betts or Drury on the ice whenever Ovechkin is.

      • BigBlueAL

Lundqvist playing out of his mind would also help a bit too I assume. Im not much of an NHL fan but Ill try to catch some of the playoff games of the Rangers if possible.

    • tim randle

joba’s at 85…sigh…how high will he go?

  • Sam

Gardner needs to stop his sliding to cut balls off fetish

    • Drew

Well he plays so damn shallow he has no choice.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

This is getting a little painful

  • http://liberalmusings.wordpress.com Pablo Zevallos

    Albie, anyone?

  • Drew

C’mon Brett. Two hopper to second base?

  • southernyankeefan

should have had him at second

  • Chip

Oy, he’s getting hit around a bit late

  • Sam

No harm, no foul I guess

  • http://heavysoundsandtheabstracttruth.files.wordpress.com/2008/12/alg_burnett-sabathia-3.jpg Mike Pop

Okay, only down a couple. Swish bomb is coming.

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

      He’s so due

  • Chip

It’s hard to watch an inning of Molina/Gardner/Jeter right after the Cano/Melky/Ransom one. You know if either Molina or Gardner get on, they’re going to be erased

    • Sam

You don’t think Gardner would run before they gave Jeter the chance to GIDP?

      • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

        He would. Molina won’t.

And now Gardner did it FOR Jeter.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

Hey! Molina with a base hit!

Too bad he’s not exactly speed on the basepath…

  • BigBlueAL

    Molina starting a rally.

  • Drew

Come on Brett. Get gritty on these h**s

  • Drew

    mo he sucks

  • Sam

    Well who saw that coming?

  • Tom Zig

Was it necessary to swing at the first pitch?

  • John

    Gardner GIDP..

    • John

damn Gameday being behind reality…does this still count as calling a DP?

  • http://heavysoundsandtheabstracttruth.files.wordpress.com/2008/12/alg_burnett-sabathia-3.jpg Mike Pop

    C’mon Brett!

    • http://heavysoundsandtheabstracttruth.files.wordpress.com/2008/12/alg_burnett-sabathia-3.jpg Mike Pop

I knew he was safe all along.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Benjamin Kabak

This Yankee lineup is killing me. They can’t play games with Gardner and Melky together. I don’t care how bad Damon is against Meche; get him in there.

    • BigBlueAL

After last season we should be used to Girardi basically throwing games away with some of his lineups.

    • Drew

Plus the dudes not walkin around with a cane. Damon can handle 6 games in 7 days. Especially this early on.

    • Expired Milk

With Tex out did Damon really need a day off this early>

      • Drew

        *and Posada

  • Andy In Sunny Daytona

Damn Melky hitting into double plays.

  • Sam

I’ve always been a fan of David Jeter…

  • BigBlueAL

Ridiculous. Gardner for all his speed thats the 2nd GIDP he has hit into the past couple of games. Of course thats what happens when you can barely hit the ball out of the infield.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

Should we call it GIDP or Yankee Specials? Since the Yankees do it so often…

  • Mike

bullshit. ump wants to get home out of the rain apparently

  • El Generalissimo

Gardner was safe, we cant catch a break today.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

    Gardner was safe…

Although that would have been a DP anyway, so it’s a moot point.

  • Chip

The worst part is, they’ve been swinging very early in the count over the past two or three innings and now meche might go 8

    • BigBlueAL

Actually what happened was Meche realized this was the Yankees “C” lineup and started throwing strikes on every pitch w/o any fear of the Yankees actually hitting the ball hard.

      • Chip

Very true, if only Tex were in this game with Swisher playing left instead of Melky. This lineup is much different without him in it

    • Sam

Exactly. Their middle relief is terrible but the way things are going they could go straight from Meche to Soria

  • Mike

jeter showing off that infield power. how this guy ever hits a hr is a mystery to me

  • kunaldo

trotting out the minor league lineup against the ace…super! double plays are killing us too

  • John

well if Gardy was safe, Jeter would have gotten the DP

  • Tom Zig

We have a national league line up right now.

  • southernyankeefan

    wow that ended quickly

    • Chip

Yeah, I don’t care so much about making the outs but he only threw 5 pitches that inning

  • Chip

So Cash is up in the SWB game with the bases loaded and is a triple away from the cycle

  • Ayer

Since they couldn’t hit Meche even if he was throwing beach balls, shouldn’t they atleast make an effort to take some pitch in hopes of getting to the bullpen sooner?

Seems like they’re required to swing at the first pitch in the strike zone.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

Isn’t the sixth inning a little early for ‘drive of the game’?

    • Sam

Yeah, Gardner’s still due for another AB

  • Drew

    Solid inning.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

So technically, Joba’s pitched a quality start–3 runs in six innings.

    • Drew

      eh.. should be one ER.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    Quality start for Joba.

  • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

Josh Becket is the black-letter definition of a fucking asshole.

    • Sam

Not that I’ll disagree with that but what did he do now?

      • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

Ump called a late timeout, he threw the throwaway pitch at Abreu’s head.

        • kunaldo

          oh what a douche

    • Reggie C.

i thought Papelbon had cornered the asshole market.

    • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

Please, please, Mike Scioscia, knock Beckett in his country mouth.

    • kunaldo

      haha what invoked this?

    • btour99

Here we go, lets get to Meche THIS INNING!!

    • Ahinds

so what did Josh Becket say?

  • John

    Put your rally-caps on!

  • Ahinds

    rally caps on

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

If Matsui GIDP’s here I may have to resign my Yankee fanship.

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

=D! I don’t have to resign my Yankee fanship just yet!

  • Drew

How good is Swish. But for real, we’re really being aggresive with meche.

  • Joop

Reading the comments in this thread you think we were about to 0-6 haha.

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

Honestly, you should try LoHud. Some of the comments there make it seem like we’re about to go 0-162.

  • John

    Jolly Ol’ St. Nick!

  • Reggie C.

Some life yet exists in the lineup.

  • Drew

Is he throwing right over the middle with every first pitch or what?

  • tim randle

nick swisher redemption. i knew we should have kept him.

  • Mike

Wow I was ready to bet my car that matsui gidp.

  • Sam

If he has Nady bunt here I’ll scream

  • Drew

DUN DUN DUN… Cmon X man

  • BigBlueAL

Shit what happened in the Angels-Sox game????

  • Sam

    Yes!

  • BigBlueAL

    X is da man!!!

  • btour99

Nady! Trying hard only cause its a contract year!!

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

    X MAN COMETH!

  • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

X gon’ give it to ya!

  • Drew

Some one get Matsui a hover-round

  • Spaceman.Spiff

    X-MAN!

    • Spaceman.Spiff

      Cano time.

  • Expired Milk

Oh snap Matusi with a hit. Nady you need to get a hit!

  • kunaldo

wooo nady! matsui moves like molasses by the way

  • John

    X-MAN!

  • Drew

    take em deep Robbie!

  • JimmieFox

Best part about this rally is that Jeter isn’t due up for a while!!

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Thou shall not think a 3-1 game is over in the fourth inning.

  • tim randle

    2B>1B
    therefore
    X>Swish

  • Sam

They better score that a hit

  • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

    Mike Jacobs = WIN.

  • http://eemack.blogspot.com Eric

I bet they score that one an error

  • dkidd

    score that a hit, bitches

  • southernyankeefan

    yeah NADY!!

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

    There’s the 2008 Robbie!

  • http://liberalmusings.wordpress.com Pablo Zevallos

    ROBBIE CANO!!! WHAD’YA KNOW?

  • btour99

Here we goooooooo!!!! Tied game!!! And a base hit by the scorer!!

  • mustang

    X-man baby!!!!

  • Spaceman.Spiff

Bruney up in the pen instead of Edwar now. Our Bridge to Mo?

    • Sam

I thought Joba was our bridge to Mo

      • Spaceman.Spiff

Haha, only on days he goes 8 innings with a lead of 3 runs or less.

  • BigBlueAL

So Jacobs gets an E robbing Cano of a hit BUT the ball Swisher missed is a hit????

    • Expired Milk

That KC “hit” better be corrected.

      • K.B.D.

Somebody please tell me what happened in the Angels/Sox game? I’m on MLB.TV and missed out I think.

        • K.B.D.

Meant to post at the bottom. Apologies.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    Fucking Melky.

    • K.B.D.

If there was ever a reason to give him less ABs, this game was it. 2 GIDPs? Thanks but no thanks.

  • Drew

fuckin melky.. No rbi for you.

  • Sam

Melky with the go-ahead DP…just wow

  • Jake H

That official scorer is the worst. Then Melky does what he does best. DP!

  • John

    MELKY?

  • Spaceman.Spiff

Nice GIDP…at least the run got in.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

    What’s this, a lead?

  • Tom Zig

So we take the lead on a DP…why are we batting melky behind cano?

    I’ll take that lead though.

  • kunaldo

haha of course melky hits into a dp

how is that an error and swish’s wasnt?? talk about homecookin’

  • btour99

Can’t they just leave Melky in Kansas Cit after the game?

  • dkidd

if the goal is to finish the game quick, melky couldn’t have done better

  • El Generalissimo

    Wow is Melky bad…

  • K.B.D.

That’s the worst homer scoring I’ve seen in awhile.

  • southernyankeefan

yeah i dont get that scoring either.

  • tim randle

    (stupid question alert)

    why isn’t that an rbi?

    • Drew

      no rbi on gidp

  • Tom Zig

    Everything happened so fast

  • Sam

I would leave in Joba at least until he let someone on base, depending on his pitch count

    • tim randle

who gets the win, bruney or joba?

      • kunaldo

        joba

        • Whitey14

          Cruz ;-)

  • El Generalissimo

Does anyone know, does or can the MLB look at a game later and change a stat… like Give Joba only 1 ER and overturn that “rbi single” to an error… or that doesnt happen?

    • John

i think if we appeal or something

      • Whitey14

MLB’s official scorers have a certain time period (used to be 24 hours) where they can make a change and it does happen a few time every season.

  • http://liberalmusings.wordpress.com Pablo Zevallos

    Melky fucking Cabrera.

  • BigBlueAL

Holy shit a pitcher actually walked Ransom!!!!

  • Ahinds

that Swisher-Cano no error has to be one of the funniest plays ive ever seen, and the ball hitting Canseco in the head.

    • K.B.D.

Can’t blame Cano. He assumes Swishers got the weak ground ball. Even if he doesn’t he can’t see the damned thing ’cause Swish is in his way. It just looks weird because he’s there, but there was little he could do.

  • http://liberalmusings.wordpress.com Pablo Zevallos

    Hey! Ransom took a walk.

  • Joey

Did Meche just pitch around Ransom or does it just seem that way?

    • Tom Zig

      Just seems that way

  • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

    Please walk Molina, please?

  • Drew

Joba only at 88 pitches. uno maas

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

    If it wasn’t for Melky….

    • K.B.D.

Somebody else could have grounded into a double play? There’s a reason he doesn’t get an RBI.

  • dkidd

    bruney time?

  • Sam

The only difference is that all of these runs are earned anyway, because even if Jacobs had made that play, Melky would have gotten the run in with the groundout

  • BigBlueAL

On a side note, the Cavs are determined to have the best record in the NBA. Up 20 on the Celtics in the 2nd quarter.

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

They only lost what, one game at home all year?

      • BigBlueAL

        Yup, vs the Lakers.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

Wow Josh Beckett is a douche.

I don’t care if Bobby’s afraid of the wall, you don’t throw at his head

    • mustang

      I second that.

      • C.Panella

I agree 100% bush League if you ask me Youk shoulda caught a heater in the back!

        • mustang

Why does it seem like the Sox have beef with everyone?
Rays, Yanks, Angles, even the O’s

          • Whitey14

Classic example of how Yanks/Sox fans see things oppositely. I saw Beckett begin his wind up/pitch and have time called on him mid-way through so he followed through and unfortunately came close to Abreu who just stood there in the box like he was still planning on swinging. It didn’t look malicious watching it live and Abreu seemed to get over it pretty quickly whereas a few of his teammates and coaches made asses out of themselves and got early showers as a result.

This of course, does not mean that Beckett isn’t a douche…..

  • Rich

    I. Loathe. Beckett.

    That is all.

    • dkidd

      scoscia will retaliate.

    • Reggie C.

      that pitch could’ve killed Abreu.

      • dkidd

red sox go deep back-to-back. someone’s getting drilled

        • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

Hard, I hope (not hard enough for permenant injury, per se, but hard enough to leave a mark)

  • BigBlueAL

Bruney in the 7th, who in the 8th?? Marte with the lefties up?? For the love of Mo, DONT walk Bloomquist!!!

  • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

    Gas!

    • kunaldo

      bruney is unleashing the fury

  • Drew

    brunediesel on the black.

  • tim randle

surprised about coco…he was only a homer, double and single short of the cycle–he already had the hard part out of the way…

Best moment of all last season: Joba outdueling Beckett at Fenway, y/y?

    • kunaldo

      of course

    • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

      Yessir.

  • John

    97!

  • desus

Bobby should have smashed Beckett right in that smug flavorsaver of his.

    Nice Bruney

  • dkidd

    bruney looks great

  • K.B.D.

Somebody please tell me what happened in the Angels/Sox game? I’m on MLB.TV and missed out I think.

    • Mike

Torii Hunter was ejected from Sunday’s game in the first inning following a benches-clearing incident against the Red Sox.
There’s hadn’t been any previous incidents in the series, but after Bobby Abreu called time just before Josh Beckett was ready to throw him a pitch in the first, the pitch sailed up and in over his head. Abreu took offense and started pointing at Beckett, causing Beckett to walk towards him. The benches cleared, but it still looked like nothing would materialize until Mike Scioscia ramped up his arguing and the Angels wouldn’t get off the field. Hunter was the only player tossed.

      • Arman Tamzarian

I just went back and watched that incident. Wow, Josh Beckett really is a dick. If your his teammates and manager how do you defend that guy? By the way Abreu’s doo, fantastic, if I could get a perm like that I would rock it hard with a polyester suit

  • Tom Zig

OMG JETER RANGED TO HIS LEFT

    • kunaldo

      haha

    • K.B.D.

Smoke and mirrors, man. David Copperfield is probably in the stadium messing with our heads.

  • Mike

    Jeter’s range sucks

  • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

Heh, Kay sounded dumbfounded when he said, “… and Jeter makes the play…” after the ball was hit up the middle.

  • BigBlueAL

Screw it let Bruney pitch the 8th too.

    • Tom Zig

Too bad they couldn’t keep Marte in there for one more out, would have gotten me the hold…

  • Ahinds

did jeter go to his left or his right there? had to be his right side.

    • John

it was his other right, so it is possible i guess

  • dkidd

    past a diving…wait a second

  • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

I don’t understand why Juan Cruz just doesn’t throw fastball after fastball down the middle against Brett Gardner.

  • K.B.D.

At the same time that I’m unhappy I don’t get to see Greinke pitch, I’m happy the Yankees don’t see Greinke pitch.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

    Stupid Bloomquist.

  • Tom Zig

    web jem!

  • dkidd

    bloomgrit or gritquist?

    • Drew

  • C.Panella

Ugh after the first two games jeter has really slowed down with the bat need him to pick it back up for the top of the order

  • John

    Jeter’s batting worse than Gardy!!!

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

      That’s a shot at Jeter!

  • dkidd

what’s the over/under on evan longoria home runs? he’s already at 5

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

I don’t know but my fantasy team loves it.

Actually last night someone asked me to trade Longoria AND swisher for Berkman and Rolen…..

    • John

      32…he’ll cool down I think

    • El Generalissimo

      75

  • dkidd

    why squirrel hate me?

  • Sam

Why are we taking Bruney out?

  • C.Panella

Longoria will win MVP with out a doubt

    • tim randle

      that’s a shot at Jeter.

    • Sam

Didn’t they already gave Swisher the trophy?

  • BigBlueAL

Royals announcers just said they ruled the earlier hit an E so only 1 earned run for Joba now.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

bryanhoch: Scoring change, finally. Callaspo’s fourth-inning grounder becomes a E3. 4 hits, 3 runs (1 earned) for Joba.

    • Sam

There’s hope in the world, after all

  • southernyankeefan

    marte makes me nervous

    • Drew

      me three

    • John

      me too

    • K.B.D.

Eh, Bruney went full to his first man. Marte is nothing if not consistent. He’ll be fine.

  • Drew

    Yesss official scorer

  • El Generalissimo

I was very happy when we got Marte, but Im very nervous when he pitches now…. I prefer Coke in this situation.

    • Drew

Word. We gotta give him a chance though. He’s a good pitcher.

      • El Generalissimo

You’re right… but he reminds me too much of a lefty handed farnsy. I just get an uneasy feeling by all these fly-outs.

      • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

Honestly I think Marte was in because Coke had the chance last time.

    • tim randle

that’s cause pepsi (and farnsworth) suck.

    • Sam

I’m nervous when Marte pitches too but that doesn’t mean you have to snort a line

      • Drew

yes. That is the last thing you need if you’re feeling nervous.

  • Drew

    the Melkman!

  • UWS

My heart skipped a bit when Melk went chasing that ball.

    *hyperventilates*

    • UWS

      bit = beat. Ugh.

    • Drew

Hey Melky is a good fielder.

  • C.Panella

Alright Marte does his job :)

  • BigBlueAL

    Good job Marte.

  • Drew

    Oh No!!! VEras

    • tim randle

      vERAs even…

  • tim randle

O/U on Mo’s games, saves, blown saves?

    164, 85, 0

  • ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops

In the AAA game the opposing pitcher (Scott Nestor) just walked four in a row on 18 pitches.

  • Drew

So Joba went 6 strong 1 earned. Great Job considering he didn’t have his best stuff.

  • K.B.D.

WHERE IS JOBA? ITS THE 8TH INNING! THE SKY IS FALLING!

    • Sam

They should have moved him to first to rest him for the 7th, then brough him back in for the 8th. Problem solved

  • Drew

    Veras fucking sucks//

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

    Ayayay Jose Veras

  • BigBlueAL

Veras makes me more nervous than Marte.

  • UWS

    F-U, Sr. Veras.

  • Alex

I actually kinda like Veras.. wayyyyy too inconsistent though.

  • Sam

We really couldn’t have had Mo go for the 4 out save?

  • John

    Bring in Melancon!

  • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

    That was a strike, asshole.

Due up next inning for the Yankees:

    Damon
    Posada
    Texiera

  • kunaldo

    this freakin blows

  • http://nyfaninboston.blogspot.com/ Manimal

Am I the only person here that doesn’t really like Phil coke?

    • Frank

He’s fine. But not for this situation.

Pulling Marte when a righty is up but leaving in Coke, who is nowhere near the pitcher Marte is, to face 3 righties. Inexcusable.

  • Frank

Questionable bullpen moves at best by Girardi.

This was a game the Yankees really needed. Looked like they were going to steal it.

  • Mike

    mother fucker

  • C.Panella

w0w did that just happen for real?

  • Alex

    Nice throw Gardner.. realy nice.

    fuck you phil coke

    Damn it !!

Phil Coke, get your ass back to Double-A.

  • Sam

Good thing Gardner didn’t hit the cutoff man. Dammit that hurts

  • Mike

sweet throw gardner. show off that arm

  • mustang

    fucking batting practice.

  • Tom Zig

    facepalm

  • DCR

Horrible, horrible bullpen management by Girardi.

    • southernyankeefan

i would say horrible bullpen pitching had more to do with it.

      • DCR

It was pretty dumb to lift Marte.

  • http://liberalmusings.wordpress.com Pablo Zevallos

Motherfucking Coke. He’s not throwing as hard as he usually does–something wrong??

  • Alex

FUCK ajpsdoipasodifjpsdoi no no soria no no soria

  • Mike

game over. soria is lights out

  • mustang

    And Melancon is where?

    • Arman Tamarian

I believe he’s in the process of pitching 2/3rds of an inning with two strikeouts in Scranton

      • mustang

        My point exactly.

  • BigBlueAL

By all means keep Coke in there. Girardi is good for a few losses by himself a season.

    • mustang

It’s that fucking Tony La Russa match up shit. So much over thinking Marte can close for God sakes.

    • Joop

      You whine a lot.

      • mustang

Once again can always count on you for that deep insight and analysis of the game.

  • http://nyfaninboston.blogspot.com/ Manimal

Who gets called up, Robertson or Melancon?

    • Drew

I don’t know why everyone is mad at Joe. Marte is not going to be used for full innings often. Gardner throws worse than Damon. Veras always suck.
At least we have bats on the bench. Just sitting there.

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Believe or not, there are lefty relievers that can pitch to righties, and Marte is one of them (.238 BAA). Girardi’s just brainlessly managing by the side the batter hits from.

      • DCR

Cause it is dumb to lift Marte. He is better then just a situational lefty.

        • mustang

          Thank you

      • kunaldo

but why not? he can get righties out…he used to close!

  • jason

note to joe: what the fuck dude, manage the bullpen better you jackass

  • tim randle

I wonder how much longer they’ll let this one go.

i would say about an inning and a half too long…

  • Luis

Wow, talk about over managing. This loss is on Girardi and that crap bullpen. Leave Marte in and you have a W.

  • Drew

Did I mention I hate Veras? Gave the damn chunker a free pass

    • Frank

Veras didn’t do shit. He’s got great stuff and I would have no problems leaving him in after that walk.

      • Drew

He walked a guy that had no hits going into yesterday. He didn’t do shit? Get the out or give up a hit. Free passes blow games.

  • Frank

Yeah this is Girardi’s loss. I don’t know what all the whining is about Gardner and Coke. Coke hasn’t proven he should be in these situations.

Taking Marte out against a righty only to leave Coke IN to face three of them is baffling.

Or you could just bring in Mo for 4 outs. Very frustrating and awful, awful managing here.

  • jason

Coke is in there throwing batting practice

  • C.Panella

Well this one ganna sting a little

  • Jake H

That is why you can’t trust Veras at all. Throw Edwar out of that BP. He hasn’t pitched at all I believe so why waste a roster spot on him.

    • Frank

I don’t know where all the hate for Veras is coming from. He’s got some of the nastiest stuff in the pen and better career walk numbers than Bruney.

But I agree Edwar has no place in the BP. Quit fooling around and swap Edwar for Melancon.

      • Jake H

Veras was no where near the zone. I would rather have a guy who would give up a hit then a walk. Walks always lead nowhere good.

        • DCR

Veras threw 22 pitches last night.

  • usty

There is absolutely no reason Mo shouldn’t have been brought in after he took out Marte. When it was Veras I was shocked, then the walk, and Phil Coke?!? What the fuck? You have the best closer in baseball who has pitched 2 innings this week. Can you fucking put him out there to win a game? God damn that was dumb.

  • Sam

    1. Not leaving in Bruney for this inning
    2. Taking out Marte
    3. Taking out Veras (although I kind of get that)
    4. Going to Coke instead of Rivera

    Just bad all around management

    • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

      1. Such unbelievably unfair hindsight.
      2. Arguable (I disagree).
      3. Agreed.
      4. Agreed.

      • Sam

The only reason I included 1 in there is because I said at the start of the inning they should have left him in

    • ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops

      5. Not going to Mo with the game still tied

  • Kevin

Girardi screwed this one up royally. He should have just left Marte in. Classic overmanaging.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Birfday Girl

Some of you guys make me think the Yankees are about to go 0-6. G-d forbid they actually were…

    • usty

Normally I would agree with you, but that was classic snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. It deserves this much animosity.

    • BigBlueAL

Ive said it all of last year and will continue to do so, with all the shit everyone gave Torre for blowing games with his managing, Mr Girardi better get the same shit if not more so for the way he blows games left and right. 3-3 opening week vs the O’s and Royals is bullshit.

      • UWS

Left and right? What the hell are you talking about?

    • http://mantisfists.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/julius-carry-aka-shonuff.jpg The Honorable Congressman Mondesi

      Pot, kettle?

  • BigBlueAL

Its a good thing Girardi does a better job managing a bullpen than Torre.

    • Joop

We get it. You don’t like the way he manages the bullpen.

  • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

Those Joba articles are gonna be all sorts of awesome tomorrow. Hmm, out of Bill Madden, Wallace Matthews and George King, I wonder who will pop more blood vessels in my brain.

    • BigBlueAL

Id rather read a Girardi article. Lets see how the new calm and media-friendly Girardi looks like in his post-game press conference after this game.

    • http://mantisfists.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/julius-carry-aka-shonuff.jpg The Honorable Congressman Mondesi

Dude… There’s an easy solution: Don’t read that shit.

      • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

It entertains me, what can I say?

        • http://mantisfists.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/julius-carry-aka-shonuff.jpg The Honorable Congressman Mondesi

Ha, no it doesn’t, it raises your blood-pressure unnecessarily.

  • desus

Girardi just looked like a kid with too many toys on christmas morning.

  • http://liberalmusings.wordpress.com Pablo Zevallos

I declared my dislike for Veras last year. Everyone laughed me off. Liking what you see, guys?

    • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

Yes. Mid-nineties with movement? Sign me up every time.

      • Reggie C.

he has no idea where’s it going too.

      • http://liberalmusings.wordpress.com Pablo Zevallos

It’s not that. It’s the lack of command (and sometimes control) and the fact that he just unravels.

    • Frank

Did Veras give up those runs or was it Phil Coke?

      • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

Seriously, he walked one guy for Christ’s sake.

  • John

Albie has been good, should have brought him in.

  • UWS

OK, people. This loss is going to sting, but let’s all take a step back and take a breath, shall we?

Yeah, Girardi overmanaged this inning. It happens. It’s not the end of the world. It’s the 6th game of the year. A little perspective, please?

    • Drew

My perspective is that Veras sucks. The guy has good command about 25% of the time.

    • Kevin

No one is panicking or anything, but Girardi screwed it up today. Nothing wrong with pointing that out.

    • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

      Thank you, Jesus.

    • http://mantisfists.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/julius-carry-aka-shonuff.jpg The Honorable Congressman Mondesi

Nobody’s saying the season is lost because of this one game. People are pissed because Girardi managed like he has his head up his ass today, and it probably cost the Yankees the game. The perspective is fine. The Yankees could have won this game. Teams lose games, and every loss is not a harbinger of a doomed seasons. But every game still counts.

      • Frank

And let’s be honest. It hurts because this is going to be scrutinized to death by the B-Jobers.

A blown lead in the 8th in a game started by Joba. The editorials are going to be unreadable.

      • UWS

Sure, Mondesi. YOUR perspective is fine. But saying Girardi should be fired or whatever is clearly overreacting.

        • http://mantisfists.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/julius-carry-aka-shonuff.jpg The Honorable Congressman Mondesi

ONE person said that, in anger, and that same person later retracted that statement while acknowledged it was hyperbole. You’re complaining about ghosts.

  • Mike

    Like what you see Hideki?

  • JimmieFox

All games count equally. This is one win we should have had, one less win that we would have needed in Sept. to clinch a play-off birth. That’s why this loss is stomach-turning.

  • Drew

Okayyyyy No damon vs a righty?

  • Reggie C.

Veras, Coke, and Edwar for Soria.

    • Drew

      “YOU CAN DOO IT”

  • Drew

Joe really wants to give these guys a FULL day off… WTF

  • Derek

he could have left bruney in to go in the 8th, even if he didnt, why take marte out? even if he does why take veras out after one batter? thennn why not put in Mo when theres 2 outs in the 8th with a 1 run lead?

  • Frank

Hideki has been worthless. Keeping him in the cleanup spot instead of Jorge, Nady, Swisher is a good idea… why?

    • Jake H

I totally agree. Problem is with Tex’s wrist bothering him I’m sure we will get more Matsui.

  • BigBlueAL

3-3 opening week against 2 scrub ass teams. Nice. I dont want to hear its only 6 games in, these 6 games are just as important as 6 games in September. Today’s loss was inexcusable with the way things played out.

    • UWS

Baltimore just took 2 out of 3 against Tampa. They’re no scrubs, at least for now..

    • Joop

The Orioles are not a “scrub ass” team.

  • C.Panella

I understand its really early in the season but these are the types of games we have to win this one really stings for sure

  • C.Panella

I understand its really early in the season but these are the types of games we have to win this one really stings for sure

    • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

No, series finales during the second week of the regular season are not games we “have” to win.

      • Mike

You’re right, lets just wing it and have mediocre Aprils like we always do and then hope for a big comeback later in the season. Giving away games is no big deal.

      • http://mantisfists.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/julius-carry-aka-shonuff.jpg The Honorable Congressman Mondesi

Games when your starter gives up 1 ER and then you take the lead in the top of the 7th only to relinquish said lead after your manager makes a couple too many (probably incorrect) bullpen moves, all against a relatively weak opponent? That’s a game you should have won. Clearly he was indulging in a bit hyperbole (“have to win,” “should win,” whatever), but the sentiment isn’t unreasonable.

  • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

    Eephus?

  • Jake H

This lost hurt since they were so close to victory but really we had our backup lf, catcher and 3rd baseman playing. I think those 3 had a total of 1 hit.

    • Reggie C.

we had stolen this game from Meche.

      shoulda won it.

  • Frank

NoMaas needs to start up a “Girardi Losses” tally just like they did with Torre.

  • Alex S

hey thats a save for my fantasy team…..

    • http://mantisfists.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/julius-carry-aka-shonuff.jpg The Honorable Congressman Mondesi

Please tell us more about your fantasy team.

  • Tom Zig

That was thoroughly disappointing. Please do not send out anymore national league line ups.

I know its still early, but I just want to see us get as many wins as we can get early on in the year. I’m tired of hoping for huge comebacks to make the playoffs.

    • Drew

lol Three great bats sat on their hands the whole time.. One with a sore little wrist :( one who should’ve DH’ed, and one who apparently needs a walker because he’s too old to play 6 in a week.

  • Reggie C.

    SHAM WOW!!!!!!!!!!

  • Derek

    Girardi should post on FML:

Today, my team had the lead with 4 outs left, instead of bringing in the greatest closer of all time I turned to an unproven rookie who blew the game, I made this decision even though I somehow won manager of the year once. FML

    • Sam

And everyone would vote “you deserved it”

    • BigBlueAL

      Does Girardi twitter????

  • Drew

You know, we live and die with our bullpen. Our starters will do their job. Bruney, Mo, Marte all good, everyone else, unproven. Albie is in the right direction but we really need one more guarantee out there. Who want’s to play… LETS MAKE A DEAL!? Veras could be a tempting arm for some teams.

    • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

Why are you getting on Veras? Phil Coke gave up each and every one of the damn hits.

      • RichYF

        Veras is lazy and Dominican.

Coke is gritty and battled his way onto the roster.

      • Joop

Veras is far from blameless. He walked the guy he was put in to face, who has one hit this season. You don’t do that.

        • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

Yes, and Phil Coke not only allowed him to score from first base, but he allowed yet another two runs to cross. Jose Veras should be the very last person to be blamed here.

          • Drew

I can excuse Coke because he’s a young arm in our system. I’m pissed he’s looked shitty thus far but what we saw from Veras is what we see 3 out of every 4 outings he has.

            • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

That first sentence is highly, highly irrational.

              • Drew

lol you’re probably right considering there is a year difference between the two. But I’ve disliked Veras for a long time, I never have trusted his arm. Inconsistent command is an understatement.

          • Joop

Jose Veras does his job and Coke doesn’t even enter the game. Coke deserves the most blame to be sure but don’t dismiss Veras’ part.

        • RichYF

Veras should not have been in that game. He pitched 1.1 yesterday and nobody else in the bullpen pitched.

Unless the depth chart for Girardi (regardless of handedness) is:

Mo, Bruney, Marte, Veras, Coke, Edwar, Albie

I don’t understand the move. Veras for 1 hitter, fine. He screwed up. Why Coke?

I’m interested to hear what he has to say in his own defense after that.

      • Drew

At least he didn’t walk anyone. Make them earn it.

  • Mike

I love how some people are downplaying this and saying it doesn’t matter and it’s only one game. A loss is one thing, but when you have the game won and just hand it to them then no it’s not just like any other loss and it’s not ok. We’ll see how you feel in October if they miss a playoff spot by 1 game.

    • Joop

If we miss the playoffs by one game there will probably twenty or thirty games you could point to. Let’s not blow this one out of proportion.

  • BigBlueAL

If this was the Mets bullpen blowing the game everyone hear would be laughing their asses off ripping the Mets.

    • RichYF

      So go watch the Mets.

    • Drew

yeaa and… we’re here ripping ourselves. I don’t see your point.

      • BigBlueAL

I meant this for the people criticizing us who are ripping Girardi for losing this game. Sorry bout that.

    • http://liberalmusings.wordpress.com Pablo Zevallos

      …because they’re the Mets.

  • RichYF

Definitely stings when the “house money” lineup does enough for a victory.

Nobody else has said it: IF ONLY WE HAD JOBA FOR TEH EIGHTH!!!!!1!11!

Also, BigBlueAL: Step back from that ledge my friend.

    • BigBlueAL

What ledge?? Ive never said anything about how this loss blows the season or that this loss means the Yankees suck. Far from it I believe the Yankees are the best team in baseball and should win it all this season hopefully. BUT that doesnt mean you cant criticize Girardi for flat-out blowing a win. If this was the Mets or Red Sox you would be laughing your ass off ripping them.

      • http://mantisfists.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/julius-carry-aka-shonuff.jpg The Honorable Congressman Mondesi

BigBlueAL… I’m with you on this one, brother.

In other news, a f*cking pig just flew by my window.

      • K.B.D.

Girardi didn’t throw Phil Coke’s pitches.

        • RichYF

I blame Girardi 100% for this game, but I’m not ready to fire him over it like *some* people.

ZOMG THIS TEAM NEEDS JOE TORRE BACK HE’S THE ONLY ONE WHO WINS CHAMPION-CHIPS!!

Girardi has some progressive ideas and I’ve like what he’s done with the team up until today. Let’s see if he learns from his mistake. It’s one he shouldn’t have made, but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt due to the weather.

          • BigBlueAL

WTF does the weather have to do with how Girardi managed the 8th inning???? BTW, he had plenty of mistakes to learn from last season. No of course he shouldnt be fired, but he doesnt instill to much confidence in me any time he starts making a bunch of moves.

            • RichYF

              http://riveraveblues.com/2009/04/game-six-spillover-thread-10154/#comment-328141

Weather argument: It was wet and rainy and that’s why he didn’t go to Mo for the 4-out save.

Do I believe it? No. There were 3 other options that were better than going to Coke not named Mariano (in order: Marte, Veras, Albie/Edwar)

              • BigBlueAL

I dont necessarily blame not bringing in Mo because it is pretty early in the season for bringing in Mo in the 8th inning especially against a poor offensive team like the Royals. But that Coke move was inexcusable.

                • BigBlueAL

Also BTW I wasn’t serious about firing Girardi after today’s game obviously.

  • marc resnick

oh come on. its a tough loss. but its early lol and coke has been great and that 3-1 pitch from veras was a strike…. all we need are 2 dynamic sluggers… like arod and tex in this line up.

    • UWS

Thank you. You, sir, are the voice of reason.

    • Drew

Coke has been great? He was over extended in his first appearance but I don’t see where you got great from.

    • DCR

What Coke are you watching? He has been pretty shitty since the games started counting.

    • http://mantisfists.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/julius-carry-aka-shonuff.jpg The Honorable Congressman Mondesi

You know what though? Getting 2 dynamic sluggers into the lineup doesn’t erase the fact that Girardi just blew a game the Yankees should have won. You guys are making a strawman argument and it’s bullsh*t. NOBODY is saying the season is over because the Yankees lost this one game, I don’t think most people are overreacting here. The Yankees should have won this game, and Girardi is probably to blame. And that sucks. And Yankees fans, especially those who are into baseball enough that they’d be commenting on RAB, have every right to be pissed off right now.

Frankly, I find it strange that you wouldn’t be a little pissed right now. I think regular commenters here would acknowledge that I’m not the type to be jumping off a bridge after any loss, I’m not saying I have a problem with this team or a different outlook because of this one game. But I’m pissed. I’m always a little pissed when the Yankees lose.

      • BigBlueAL

I couldnt have put it any better myself. Although I cant blame some fans for not being as upset about this loss as you or me are. I actually wish I could handle tough losses a little better. Now my entire night is ruined!!

      • K.B.D.

I always find it strange that the manager is usually responsible for the losses and never for the wins. If Coke makes his pitches, this is no big deal. Girardi doesn’t throw the pitches. Veras’ job was to get the guy out and he failed. Coke’s job was to get that guy out and he failed. That doesn’t mean Girardi is blameless, but neither is he the REASON the Yankees lost.

        • http://mantisfists.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/julius-carry-aka-shonuff.jpg The Honorable Congressman Mondesi

Ok, I hear you. I usually don’t think the manager should get much blame, or credit. But you know what? When the manager makes bad moves, and those bad moves are directly involved in the outcome of a tough loss like today, the manager deserves his fair share of blame. I’ve been commenting here for a long time and I challenge anyone to find a comment of mine in which I say anything about Girardi, whether good or bad. But he f*cked up today, and that’s on him.

  • Frank

You’re off your rocker if you want to move Veras.

    • Frank

The problem is that everyone has forgotten how utterly dominant he was in the first half of last season but it’s fresh in their memory how he struggled a little in the 2nd half.

And that’s only because it was his first FULL season as a reliever in the bigs and tired at the end as pitchers tend to do.

    • Drew

Why? Do you like mid 90’s guys with high walk rates? They come a dime a dozen.

      • BklynJT

FYI, that pitch was a strike on gameday.

        • Drew

Was it a strike in the game? Last time I checked gameday is not the umpire. Don’t fall behind 3-0 to a guy that has been terrible thus far.

      • K.B.D.

Maybe because in his first full season of work he put up a 124 ERA+. Guy’s like that aren’t exactly a dime a dozen.

        • Drew

well 3.6 isn’t exactly great in the bullpen. and how many of his 4.5/9 walks were diffused because of someone else’s arm.

  • Derek

Also, Joba could have been in there in the 7th, he only threw 88 pitches, if he gets into trouble, then you bring in Bruney, then Marte then MO

    • Drew

word to that. I thought he would come back out and throw 10 to 15 pitches. Especially after he flew through the 6th.

  • DCR

Hey don’t worry guys. The bullpen isn’t an area of concern according to a few people around here. Coke, Ramirez, Veras, and Albaladejo will all dominate.

  • Clemson Rob

Blame that one on Girardi. Too many moves!!!!

  • blee

this is all on girardi… micro managing at the worst.. I hate managers that do this.. Marte gets 2 quick outs.. then brings in Veras just to get a matchup.. walks him.. then against a switch hitter brings in COKE IN THE 8tH?!? LEAVES him in to face 3 RIGHTIES????.. why not Mo for a 4 out save????…

    • K.B.D.

Quick? He went full to the first batter and got a pop up, then was luck to have a hard-hit ball fielded well by Melky on the run. Hardly “quick”.

  • Steve B Ball

girardi mismanaged the hell out of this game
Melky & Gardner just AWFUL and Gardners arm bad bad bad
The Yanks need a Center Fielder NOW
    Coke belongs in Triple A

  • BklynJT

I’ll rent a uhaul and volunteer to drive all you bipolar fans to the nearest bridge.

    • K.B.D.

      I’ll throw down for it.

    • Drew

By bipolar do you mean happy when we win and mad when we lose?

  • Clemson Rob

How soon do we bring Ajax and Melancon up? Do we rush them up? Both Melky and Coke looked bad.

    • Joop

You want to bring Ajax up because our fifth outfielder looked bad?

      Ok…

    • K.B.D.

Melky is our 4th outfielder. You don’t push your top prospect so he can replace a bench player. Coke looked great last year, and not so great so far, but come on, it’s not even 10 innings. Just calm down. No reason to rush anybody this early in the season.

    • Drew

Melk looking bad is the lat of our worries. Gardner throws like a girl, has shied away form the wall more than once, and has been overmatched at the plate.

  • SF Yanks

I absolutely LOVED RAB in the offseason, but unfortunately, a lot of negative nancies come out the woodworks when something doesn’t go our way during the season. It’s one thing point something out, and entirely another to beat it into the ground until it enters one side of the earth and comes out the other.

I guess I’ll just have to find a way to deal with it I suppose….

I’m not specifically a glass half empty or glass half full guy. I think it depends on whether or not the water was poured to the half way mark or drank to the half way mark. That’s how I try to react to certain circumstances…a sort of balance…FWIW

    • http://mantisfists.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/julius-carry-aka-shonuff.jpg The Honorable Congressman Mondesi

” It’s one thing point something out, and entirely another to beat it into the ground until it enters one side of the earth and comes out the other.”

If discussing a game on the day that game occurred is “beating it into the ground,” then yeah, you may want to go somewhere else.

      • SF Yanks

Eh, guess you missed my point. There are plenty of “doomsdayers” here that don’t add to the “discussion” of the game. Whatevs, to each his own. If proclaiming the end of Girardi’s management career after a few, admittedly, lousy calls is your thing then go for it. Who am I to stop you?

BTW I never mentioned that it was too much to handle and I was thinking of leaving for other blogs….

  • K.B.D.

Melky is our 4th outfielder. You don’t push your top prospect so he can replace a bench player. Coke looked great last year, and not so great so far, but come on, it’s not even 10 innings. Just calm down. No reason to rush anybody this early in the season.

    • K.B.D.

      Posted in the wrong thread.

  • Quikksand

Stop overreacting about Coke!!!!!!!! It waas only 1 poor outing. Give him a break. The real culprit was Girardi for overmanaging!

  • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

Wow, Howie Kendrick’s plate discipline has really improved.

    • BigBlueAL

If both Kendrick and Cano improve their plate discipline, look out. Although if im not mistaken Kendrick isnt a good defender right??

  • blee

Its not about the players.. its about Girardi mismanaging the game.. which any manager will do.. in which case, I get to criticize him for it.. but to bring in coke to face 3 righties in a row in the 8th with someone like MO there.. or even another righty like edwar or alba in there.. its just.. frustrating..

    • K.B.D.

Phil Cokes Career Minor League BA vs. RHB: .256
Major League BA vs. RHB: .167

Lefty vs. righty is a gross simplification. Coke is not a LOOGY.
