Game 17 Spillover IV: The umps are watching the NFL draft

Game 17 Spillover Thread III: The death of me
A-Rod nearing game action

By my count, the umps have cost the Yanks five runs today. The home plate ump blew a third-strike call to J.D. Drew, and thus, Jason Varitek was able to hit a grand slam. Had the call on Drew been made, Varitek isn’t up.

Then, just now in the bottom of the 8th, Posada throws Jacoby Ellsbury out by a foot, but the ump is in no position to see it. Ellsbury scores. While I know this sounds like sour beans, the truth is that baseball has instituted instant replay in a ridiculously arbitrary way.

Anyway, the Yankees were going to need to score 13 to win. Let’s see if they can hold the Sox at 13 and come back. Again.

A-Rod nearing game action
  • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

    I hate these games!

    • Arman Tamzarian

There’s room for one or two of these games each year, providing the Yankees come out on top

      • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

I’m a teacher. Hence I am destined to suffer from high blood pressure. I don’t need any more help.

  • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

    I’m a sad Panda.

  • Joey H

I quote from the previous post ”
    Arman Tamzarian says:
    April 25th, 2009 at 7:57 pm
Its kind of sad watching Ortiz limp to the finish of his career, the man made watching these games a whole lot of fun”

You’re officially a fool. Go take your sadness and a box of Kleenex over to LoHud.

    • Arman Tamzarian

You have a problem respecting your opponent? it’s a game buddy, ease up for a bit and you’ll see

      • Joey H

No but if you don’t consider it a gift that one of the toughest outs for the Yankees over the past 6 years is a shell of him self then you need to get your head examined.

        • Arman Tamzarian

I would rather MO strike him out when’s he at his best, its what makes competition exciting. Toeach his own, but your getting a bit worked up about this

          • Joey H

I’m not getting worked up. I just want the team I root for to win ball games; especially against rivals. Everyone ages, it’s part of live which baseball isn’t exempt from. When you have new killers coming along in Youkilis, Pedrioa, Bay we can’t afford to watch old ones continue as well.

            • Arman Tamzarian

And all I said was it was sad to watch him decline, I want to see the Yankees win as well, but I want them to do it against a team other than the Washington Nationals, that’s not much of a challenge

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Benjamin Kabak

Nah. I can see why someone would say that. Having someone to root against is part of the fun. Jason Bay is just so boring. Ortiz has character and personality.

      • Joey H

Well, I personally enjoy rooting against him while watching him making the transition from a Yankee-Killer to a bum. It’s natures cycle. And I love it.

    • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

How is that a foolish comment? Ortiz may suit up for the Sox but he’s still a good guy and it is always a little disheartening to see a guy fall apart.

      • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

        Like Bernie….(tears)
And, maynnee if/when Arod…jeez, going to hurt. Watching Mussina in 07 hurt too, but those are all Yankees cause I’M A HOMER MAYNEE!!!

        • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

Watching Jeter and A-Rod in their serious decline phases is going to make me cry.

      • Joey H

Oh, sorry apparently I am the only person on here who doesn’t enjoy a guy kill the team I root for at the plate.

        • DP

No, you aren’t. I am loving this. I hope he bats .150

          • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

I do, too, but I definitely see what AT is saying.

            • Joey H

Ok, well then we are on the same page. My point is, don’t be “sad” and somber about it, be maybe .. I don’t know, surprised maybe? Sad is an emotion that you usually have when something goes away and you miss it and want it to come back. In my case however, its the total opposite. I enjoy good competition but when there are emerging Yankee-Killers coming along, you have to have an out with the old and in with the new attitude.

  • JobaWockeeZ

I bet teh Sawk gave the umps small tv’s to watch the draft!

  • BigBlueAL

Dont blame the umpires!!! Its never their fault!!!

  • royjeffries

Yes, yes, it’s always the umps, the Joe, the wind, the Gods. I guess hitting, pitching, and fielding are secondary.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Benjamin Kabak

It’s all a part of it, but can you deny that the second base ump blew that call?

      • B.George

he called that where he tagged him because he is an amateur who should be umping little league games

      • royjeffries

Oh, Elsbury was definitely out, but blown calls are a part of the game. However, scoring 11 runs and giving up 13 might have a little something to do with pitching & defense, too.

  • Joey H

Someone needs to do an investigation. Every officiating crew thus far for the Yankees has been HORRIBLE.

    • royjeffries

      Al Davis, is that you?

    • JobaWockeeZ

Seriously, every ump that’s in an opposing stadium is pulling a Tim Donaghy.

      • Joey H

Listen. Don’t think I am over exaggerating. They are blowing easy calls.

  • B.George

I love how we have three fresh arms in the pen and dont use them….the umpire this year has been absolutley terrible……and Brett Gardner should not be in the major leagues because he cant hit the ball 7 feet.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Benjamin Kabak

Mike and I were chatting a few minutes ago: We’re about done with the Brett Gardner Experience.

      • giselle

whatever happened to the “he struggles in the beginning of every level” argument?

        • http://www.riveraveblues.com Benjamin Kabak

This isn’t the beginning of a level anymore. This is the beginning of a season.

        • B.George

Thank you Ben and Mike…….he is overmatched and has zero power….those two hits he had in Tampa was because Crawford and Upton were pretty much playing the infield…..all you have to do is throw fastballs down the middle and he cant hurt you

          • Joey H

It was well worth the try though. But we can’t have automatic outs at the bottom of our order. He’s a good Pinch Runner. In with Cameron I guess?

            • B.George

100% and i didnt want him at the beggining with all the rumors starting but now I want him

            • Steve in MN

who are you willing to give up? melky+IPK?

  • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

    D-rooooobbbbb!!!!(deep voicce)

  • Mr. Rodriguez

Best part of the sport it that there’s another one tommorrow. Whatever, we lose 2 of 3 to the red hot sox, but if we take tommorows game we can come together in Detriot sweep or take 2 of 3 from them .. a little optimism there

    • JobaWockeeZ

      +1

      • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

        But teh rivalry1!!11

        • JobaWockeeZ

If the Red Sox scored 5 runs against Burnett I don’t see why we can’t with the top of the order coming up.

          • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

Oh, no doubt. We can but I don’t want to bank on it. This team is still bomb – diggity.

            • JobaWockeeZ

Oh that was reply fail my bad. I meant that to go somewhere else.

    • giselle

no! i wanna win tonight!! its papelbons turn to blow the lead.

  • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

Let’s go, Robertson. Drop the hammer on ’em.

    • http://liberalmusings.wordpress.com Pablo Zevallos

Can’t drop a hammer if he can’t command his fastball.

  • http://liberalmusings.wordpress.com Pablo Zevallos

Robertson very long arm action…no wonder his control/command goes sometimes

  • John

Oh well, given we have will have these games couple times a year, lets hope these were it to get out the way. And we also need to return the favor.

On the other hand, 2 games, especially against the team you are battling with, could be a big difference in the playoff race in the end of the year.

    • Mr. Rodriguez

They still play another 16 of these dude

    • Mike

yeah well they have already met their quota for the year.

      • John

        hopefully

  • Drew

    Shit

  • http://liberalmusings.wordpress.com Pablo Zevallos

    That sounded nasty. Game over.

  • John

Oh shit…at least damon tried. I hope he’s okay

  • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

Not going to lie, as gay as I sound, I saw that coming.

  • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

    Blah.

  • royjeffries

Doesn’t Lowell look like some guy who should be sitting on a bar stool?

    • Alex S

he looks like an angry drunk

    • Joey H

No but Youkilis does, with a cigarette dangling from his mouth.

  • Alex S

this is a fucking joke love damon’s effort though

  • The Evil Empire (We have a calf-pen)

    My name stands corrected

  • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

Sucks man, but he gets put in bad spots – not an excuse just saying. Boston does seem to own us as of late. Ever since that 5 game sweep, just seems like they kill us. A-Rod back in a week or two;)

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Benjamin Kabak

Mark Melancon has 17 Ks in his 10 innings at AAA this year. The Yanks really could have used a guy to get a strike out tonight.

    • giselle

seriously. when are we gonna see him pitch? why’d they bring him up to boston in such a hurry if he’s not gonna play? grr.

      • Joey H

You are both right, but like Mike said before, it’s highly unlikely that they would dip this kids feet in the water in a high pressure situation like this when he probably wasn’t expecting to come up over night like that.

  • John

Let’s get em tomorrow and sweep em next time! And then win 2 out 3, in a similar fashion as today and yesterday, the time after!

  • Mike

what a bunch of fuckups. this team’s pitching is still a joke.

    • GG

i couldnt have put it any better

  • BigBlueAL

Robertson is Mr. Mop-up. When is the mopping up the game, he strikes out the side. Any time he is brought in when the game is still in question, he sucks.

    • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

I don’t agree with this. He is put in these bad situations with men on all the time. That’s how it seems to me. Still very young, but his minor league numbers prove to me that he can hack it very well in the show.

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Benjamin Kabak

his minor league numbers prove to me that he can hack it very well in the show.

His MiLB numbers prove to me that he can hack in AAA and that he deserves a shot to try to hack it in The Show. That’s about it.

        • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

You know what I meant, damnit!

      • DCR

So Robertson should only be brought in with no one on and to start an inning? You’re really reaching here.

      • BigBlueAL

Ugh the point of a good reliever is to come in and get out of jams. Im not saying Robertson sucks, I like his stuff, but you cant say that what I said is not true.

    • DCR

      Yep.

  • royjeffries

Other than running down a fly ball with his speed, Damon rarely makes a spectacular catch, i.e., one up against the wall or diving.

  • John

We can blame the umps. Ben thinks they cost us 5 runs, and 16-11 is…

  • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

    Well…145 games left.

  • E-ROC

This sucks and he had the meat and potatoes to hit in the next inning while Melancon is getting some splinters in his ass.

    • E-ROC

      *they had

    • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

Melancon wasn’t going to make his debut in a game like this in Fenway.

      • E-ROC

I don’t see why not. Yeah, its Fenway. Big stage, but c’mon, there is no way you call him up and wait until he faces insufferable team to let him pitch.

    • giselle

      lol, splinters.

  • Joey

Well Mike Pop, there goes your boy Ron Brace to Goddamn NE

    • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

Heh, I’m suprised Rey Maualalgagagagfa fell so far, aren’t you?

      • Joey

Very actually, I’m pretty surprised NE didn’t try trading up further to get him

  • jonathan

Our pitching starters, and bullpen is horrible….small sample size, its only april, its only the 17th game. The yankees are the biggest bunch of mismanaged under-achievers to this point, we are gonna get swept out of this series…and then Hal and Hank are going to explode…THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN!!

  • Alex S

papelbon better not do some dumb jig right now

  • GG

Somebody/ies need to man up big time while Bruney is out…Its funny how much 2 games can hurt, but its not 2 games, the bullpen has been bad in NY, bad in KC, etc..

    • Mr. Rodriguez

Somebody said it before.. Juan Cruz for a 4th rounder doesn’t look so bad right about now.. Seriously wtf are we gonna do?

  • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

I understand the top of the Yankee order is coming up but bringing in Papelbon seems superfluous here with a five run lead.

  • royjeffries

Surprised to see the Sox put P-bon in the game. Sets the Yanks up a little better for Sunday.

    • http://thebronxzoo.wordpress.com iYankees

I guess since he’s been warming up over and over again, they figured they would get him in there (why waste the effort).

  • Mr. Rodriguez

As a New Yorker, somtimes you just have to give it to Boston natives. Their really great in all sports . New York just simply has the biggest market, but doesn’t come thru as much lately..

Patriots look like they know what their doing today also

    • John

Everyone has their ups and downs

  • http://thebronxzoo.wordpress.com iYankees

I don’t even know what to make of this game…

You guys are going to need a few hours just to writeup an analysis.

    • John

      yea, hows that classic

      • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

Heh, my comment is bad. These games make me craaazzy though man/

  • B.George

is it just me or was it aboslutley stupid to pinch hit melky for berroa and not gardner? I thought he should have let berroa hit and had melky pinch hit for gardner….you are using two people off your bench for one at bat instead of one person for just one at bat and put him in the field….later in the game I would rather have Melky hit then Pena…made no sense to me

    • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

I agree with this. This is the one problem I can have with Girardi. He loves his boy Brett though.

      • B.George

Brett Gardner should be on the bench just to pinch run late in games….thats what he is Yankees need to realize that.

    • DCR

      Girardi being Girardi.

    • John

nah, they all equally suck. We need Grudz, if he is willing, for our bench.

    • Joey H

      Clueless Joe.

  • JobaWockeeZ

Fox at least admits they’re biased. They have no idea what BS is coming out of their stupid mouths.

    • royjeffries

Are you talking about Fox News or Fox Sports? Why do you think they’re biased?

      • JobaWockeeZ

Fox News is Republican biased but I’m not going to talk politics. Fox Sports seems to hate the Yankees. They just insulted Yankee Stadium claiming it was a great line that a foul ball Jeter hit would be a HR. A smart announcer wouldn’t say anything coming from a fan’s mouth that is heckling the opposing team.

        • http://liberalmusings.wordpress.com Pablo Zevallos

Fox and all of their affiliated companies stand against everything I like/stand for/believe in. I hate those guys.

        • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

Agreed. McCarver is a tool when it comes to NYY.

  • The Evil Empire (We have a calf-pen)

“That would’ve been a HR in your stadium” HAHAHHA

  • Mike

yeah because boston fans have any right to talk about hitter friendly parks with their 200 ft to right field and big ass wall in left.

    • royjeffries

Ask Bucky Dent how he feels about the distance to that wall.

  • josh

i have been a joba should start guy since the beginning – fire girardi – call up ajax – if hughes shows anything when he is up and joba doesnt dominate soon he should be in the pen when wang comes back. it makes for a better team now. this team can win now – no question

    • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

NO. JOBA. TO. THE. PEN. EVER. Creating a hole in the rotation to patch one in the bullpen is just stupid.

  • B.George

nd Cashman needs to no that a good bench is part of baseball….when was the last time the Yankees had a decent bench?

    • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

What do you expect the bench to be? You know what the Yankees have on their bench? Bench players.

      • Arman Tamzarian

Agreed, Nady or Swisher was destined to be on our bench, as was Molina, for defense it doesn’t get much better

        • B.George

we never had a good bench in the past couple years we have noone on the bench that can pinch hit and has power its terrible.

  • James Widmer

For the first time since 1995 versus Seattle, I think I have finally stopped enjoying watching the Yankees. The Red Sox totally have their number and none of the free agents we ever bring in works. The Sox sign a guy like Okajima who was mediocre in Japan just so Matsuzaka will have some company and he turns into a quality arm. They offer Manny up on waivers back in the winter of 2003/04 and nobody claims him and they go on to win 2 WS with him. Everything they do is right and everything we’ve done despite appearing great on paper never works out. I like Cashman but ultimately his judgment in some matters is poor. Take the Sheffield trade. We really got nothing back (now that Humberto Sanchez who was supposed to be the key piece of the deal for us has been released). Claggett and Whelan won’t make it. Burnett is staked to a 6-0 lead today and somehow we manage to lose the game. In 2004, Boston fans were wearing bags over their heads down 3-0 in ALCS and the Red Sox themselves were congratulating the Yankees then Torre manages like an old lady the rest of the series and we’ve pretty much been roadkill since.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

What are you talking about, they don’t totally had the Yanks’ number. The Yanks were one strike from beating them yesterday and were right there with them all day today until that double in the bottom of the ninth.

      • James Widmer

I hear you. I’m just saying that I almost don’t like the games against the Red Sox now because it seems like the rivalry is now too intense. I guess I should just take each game as it comes and maybe I’ll appreciate it more. Last night and today weren’t any fun though.

    • John

Bye…hope we beat your guys tomorrow

    • Nady Nation

Then stop following the Yankees. The team and the fanbase won’t miss you.

      • James Widmer

Smart reply…but unfortunately everyone is allowed a little frustration without being told to hit the road…did you like the result of today’s game and last night?

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

If it’s that horrible, don’t watch it.

      • James Widmer

I did think it was that horrible today – especially after last night…everyone needs to take a break some time…I just needed to vent…I did stop watching and am just chatting with you guys now…

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Benjamin Kabak

I will argue to death with you about the Sheffield trade. The Yankees gave up nothing and got nothing back in return.

      • James Widmer

I agree that it was addition by subtraction but the problem is that the Tigers and Jim Leyland who loves Sheff really believed that they were getting something of significant value. With that in mind, we should have been able to make this a win-win. Yet at the end we really got nothing. Nice chatting with you.

    • JobaWockeeZ

A-Rod isn’t back yet. And if you really enjoyed the Yankees then you should know the Yankees don’t start out well in April. Once A-Rod comes back and when Wang comes back to his usual self then the Yankees will be a much better team. Right now the bullpen is overworked. Cool your jets.

      • James Widmer

Don’t worry. I’ll be back watching again tomorrow. I just haven’t enjoyed the games as much recently and with today’s effort coming after the heart-breaker last night…

    • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

I think I have finally stopped enjoying watching the Yankees.

      Then change the channel.

      • James Widmer

        I did…now I’m just talking with you guys…

  • JobaJr

If we lose tomorrow, I won’t forget this series for a long time.

  • jonathan

tomorrow get read for it, score of the game is going to be 4-2 Red Sox, Andy is gonna go 7.1 2ER and take the loss because Masterson is a new pitcher and a sinkerballer which means Derek “GIDP” Jeter will be killing rallies left and right.

    • Tony

      Fun Fact:

Jeter has been the second best player on the team so far (to Cano).

    • Joey H

      Got to love the optimism.

  • Drew

    April 6th

    • Drew

Whoops That was a reply to B.George.

  • Joey H

Something that I think we have to rest our heads on is the fact that this might be the worst we see the team. We are with out a clean up hitter. Without a legit CF’er. Without our third starter. With a struggling pen. So things will improve.

    • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

Yep, things can only go up.

    • B.George

      well said

Plus we are missing one of our RFs and SU man.

This just in. When George Steinbrenner was asked to comment on this game, he drooled on himself and then said “Buh, Duh, Doh”.

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

      Troll harder.

      • royjeffries

I also hear that he shit himself when Tek hit that granny.

Because I know how to multiply or because I know the IQ of retarded monkeys? Either way I am not from NY, I did not go to public school and even if I did NYC is one of the best urban school districts in the USA so your argument is lost on many levels.

Wow! Quite the comeback. I got in to this because I thought that you were creative enough to keep up. Too bad I was wrong. Nice try though.

    • Whitey14

      That, is just fucking wrong!

      • royjeffries

What did George mumble that was wrong?

        • Whitey14

To come up with comments that make fun of someone who has a condition they can do nothing about. That, is just fucking wrong.

You’re a douchenozzle, no doubt about it pal!

    • A.D.

      dude, that’s beyond low.

  • http://liberalmusings.wordpress.com Pablo Zevallos

I can’t believe Joe Buck went there.

  • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

    Sup, Tex’s OBP?

  • http://liberalmusings.wordpress.com Pablo Zevallos

    Swisher! Please!

  • BigBlueAL

Well, at least Papelbon wont be available tomorrow.

  • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

    Reaally? Rosenthal said Vizcaino.

  • Joey H

You knew they had to bring up the Joba talk. They are talking like the Sox pitching was lights out today. It just became an inevitable slugfest today

    • Mike

yeah I know I was thinking the exact same thing. wtf. like the red sox pen has looked any better.

  • Alex S

    5 walks in a 9 inning game….thats gotta be a record right?

  • Mike

Just when I think I couldn’t hate Buck and McCarver anymore than I already do….they go and start the Joba to bullpen talk.

  • josh

the bench is a real problem. if arod and nady were healthy it would be different but putting up melky to get a run in from third with 1 out is sad. we need a pro up in that situation. does anyone know the yankees rate of brining the runner in from 3rd with less than 2 out this year. it has got to be a joke

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Benjamin Kabak

Did Sucka Got No Juice just suggest that the Yanks pick up Luis Vizcaino? Ugh please.

    • Arman Tamzarian

Yes, becuase teams often cut players they are giving 4 million to because their contributing positively

  • BigBlueAL

I assume with all the roster moves, the Yankees are still carrying 13 pitchers/12 players right??

  • E-ROC

I love it when these announcers beat a dead horse until there is nothing left. WTF are the Yanks going to do with acquiring Luis Vizcaino???? Please explain Joe Buck.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Yeah, because the Sox’s bullpen has been money this series.

    • B.George

ill shoot myself in the face

  • http://liberalmusings.wordpress.com Pablo Zevallos

    Damn…

  • Alex S

hit a hr here robbie, just for the hell of it

    • giselle

seriously. put it in the pike.

  • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

I love how the vaunted Red Sox pen has given up five runs yet they have no ‘pen problems.

  • royjeffries

This just in. Isaih Thomas has been hired to replace Joe G.

    • Arman Tamzarian

      He can draft!

      • royjeffries

If by “draft”, you mean he often leaves his fly open, then I agree with you.

        • DP

          Not even remotely funny.

    • royjeffries

His statement to the press: “Buh, Duh, Doh”.

      • DP

That joke was way better the first time you said it.

        • royjeffries

At least Georgie has an excuse. I.T. is just plain dumm.

  • http://liberalmusings.wordpress.com Pablo Zevallos

Tim McCarver, learn how to clean your ass and wash your hands before you laugh at stupid shit.

  • http://liberalmusings.wordpress.com Pablo Zevallos

    Fuck. Game over.

  • Mike

I’ve never heard someone acknowledge what a heckler says as much as these assclowns.

    • JobaWockeeZ

Which is why I’m the rare breed of people that can handle Kay and Joe Morgan.

  • giselle

    papelbon threw 30 pitches tonight.

  • Bob Stone

Two very exciting games . . . but oh so discouraging

  • E-ROC

Watching the game itself was tough, but these announcers and certain reporter make things fugly.

  • Drew

Damn Scranton put up 17 today

  • JeffG

This game boils down to the pitching in leveraged situations:
Varitek: Why give him something he can hook? With old man bat speed you don’t try to make him go out and get one?
Lowell: Do we really not have a better pitch to throw in that situation? Has Lowell not hit plenty of those high inside fastballs? The hanging breaking in the 8th wasn’t it either. This to me just feels like lack of …uuuuh fuck it… thinking?

    • Bob Stone

I agree with what you say but you also have to account for the fact that the Yanks were only 3 for 17 with RISP – pretty sad!

      • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

11 runs should be enough to win a game, regardless of the RISP numbers.

      • JeffG

Think about it – they are making their pitches in those situations when we are not… thus winning the game.
Jorge has got to play a better chess match.

  • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

Hey, so, my really patient self is starting to lose faith in the bullpen I normally believe in. Someone pump my confidence back up. But not you, Pop. You disgust me.

    • DP

I second this need for confidence.

      • Bob Stone

My vote will be lower in this week’s RAB FAN Confidence Poll – I’ve been at 8 out of 10 every week but I’m going lower this week!

    • http://www.youtube.com/kevyyankees Kevin G.

Brueny will come back healthy and just as good as before, Robertson and Melancon will both be two young studs out of the bullpen, Mo will be Mo, the Yankees will finally realize Swisher belongs in the bullpen, and the Yankees will call up Croussett.

      • Bob Stone

Get Gossage to go along with Swisher in the pen

      • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

and the Yankees will call up Croussett.

        Yes.

        • Bob Stone

          HA HA !!

  • Rich

    *turns the page*

  • Bob Stone

I don’t feel confident about tomorrow’s game but I’m still hoping. I don’t want it to be a lost weekend.

    • DP

It already is. As far as weekends go, this is awful. Even a win tomorrow doesn’t improve the weekend. Now of course its just 3 out of 162, but let’s not kid ourselves- the weekend by itself is beyond lost.

  • B.George

THIS JUST IN: Jorge Posada just called for another curve ball!

  • Dave

Can someone fill me in on WTF happened to burnett? He was cruising I thought?

    • Bob Stone

He gave up two huge home runs

      • Bob Stone

Varitek Grand Salm in the 4th inning, Ellsbury solo shot in the fifth inning

        • Bob Stone

          Slam

      • B.George

He was cruising with Molina for a reason and for some reason Girardi decided to have Posada catch today and not yesterday so Posada catches Burnett……

        • Bob Stone

I wonder about Posada’s game calling sometimes

          • B.George

he really is horrible IMO at it

        • Drew

          Wow. Just wow.

          • Bob Stone

Drew – I guess you like Posada’s game calling skill?

            • Drew

              Posada is our catcher.

              • B.George

                And……..

                • Drew

“for some reason Girardi decided to have Posada catch today and not yesterday so Posada catches Burnett…”
Posada is our catcher. Clearer now?

                • B.George

Burnett and Molina work better together hence his under 3 ERA before the game……CLEARER NOW????????????????????????????????????????????

            • Drew

Generally yes, I mean, if we don’t put him out there now with Burnett, they’ll never have that comfort with each other. Part of the reason Pettitte and Jorge work so fluidly is because they execute and they’ve done it for so long. If Molina catches Burnett all year then what happens in the playoffs and in crucial games throughout the season.

          • Dave

He was one of the only bright spots so far this year as far as starting pitching, him and Andy…Could use a solid 7+ from Pettite tomorrow but its tough to get your hopes up.

            • Bob Stone

Don’t get me wrong – I’m a huge Posada fan. I think the loss of Posada last year was the single biggest reason why the Yanks didn’t make the playoffs.

  • dave

“By my count, the umps have cost the Yanks five runs today.”

    Waaah!!! waaahh!!!! waaahh!!!

    Haha.

    :)

  • YankeeScribe

Send Joba back to the pen. I’d rather have a dominant Joba out of the pen than an ok Joba in the rotation and the pen blowing leads every other game,.,

    • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

      Ugh.
