dude, I hear you… i’m not big on buying apps at all, but the MLB app is pretty great. if you’re going to be somewhere where you can’t watch on tv or be near a computer, it’ll come in REALLY handy. it gives all sorts of real-time game info, which is really accurate so far, as well as videos, pitch info, fielding info… it’s great. For ten bucks I get to have an app in my pocket that let’s me keep track of every other game really well while i’m sitting in the Stadium all summer? sign me up. probably great for people with long commutes, too.
My sad reality: 90% of the time that I’m not in front of the computer or a TV, I’m somewhere with my wife. She’d be none too keen on me taking more time away from her to watch live MLB action on my cellphone.
(Wait, my wife is freaking sexy as hell and pretty awesome otherwise as well. That’s not a sad reality, that’s a glad reality. Nevermind.)
yeah I hear you. like I said, if you have reason to be somewhere, with interest in keeping track of games but not opportunity, this app looks to be pretty irreplaceable. otherwise, buy a 6-pack instead.
Out of respect for Ben and the other lawyers or lawyers to be around here, try not to talk about any illegal activities you may be engaging in so as not to put them in a sticky ethical situation.
I’m not taking it all the way to that level, I’m just saying, it’s sort of a courtesy amongst friends.
Don’t do illegal shit in front of your lawyer friends, to avoid any ethical dilemmas.
It’s similar to the discussions earlier this year about using the Slingbox to illegally rebroadcast the games and junk. Best to not even go down that road.
Couldn’t agree more. Not only is he doing it at the plate, but I’d have to say he has a slight edge in fielding. I have no idea why Nady has that cleanup spot today. It should have went to Swisher.
Couldn’t agree more. Not only is he doing it at the plate, but I’d have to say he has a slightpretty freaking large, Grand Canyon-esque edge in fielding.
i’d imagine that thing is dynamic, and works off results…might just so happen that most of gardners hits have come off the change up and most of his outs came off the change up…it’ll change when theres more data
Gardner hit a chopper to the pitcher, Bass; Bass threw the ball over the glove of the catcher, Moeller; runners advanced as the ball went to the backstop.
UPDATE, 3:25 p.m.: Ross Ohlendorf pitched a gem today for the Pirates. Six shutout innings so far. It was a good trade at the time but he’ll be the guy they regret losing, not Tabata.
Peter Abraham said that the Yankees are better off without Alex Rodriguez, and that the team is more likely to win a championship without said three-time MVP. That’s all I need to know about his “opinions” on anything baseball.
I agree but that’s unnecessarily harsh. pete abe has his foibles, but it’s not fair to absolutely kill the guy because he’s wrong about something. I’m sure you’ve been wrong in the past (cough ed hardy shirts cough cough), but i still think you’re quite clever.
Although, he may have been complaining more about the general theme of the bad precedent established from MarteGate from 2008 and not specifically about Opening Day 2009.
So yeah that was a shitty pinch hitting appearance by Melky but I think we just got Jeter out for the defensive Pena while ahead late in a game. Hope to see this more later in the season
funny moment in the dodgers game: clayton kershaw on third, manny at the plate, third base ump calls time to advise clayton to take his lead in foul territory so he won’t be killed by a line drive
Actually, I’m watching on GameCast too and I caught it. They said”
M Cabrera in leftfield.
R Pena at shortstop.
Bruney relieved J Veras.
That, plus the fact that the old SS was the last out of the previous inning and the old LF was the first batter due up next inning should tell you all you need to know. Classic doubleswitch.
Yes. I’m still pulling for Nady but I must admit Swisher is growing on me fast. Nothing to do with today although it didn’t hurt, but I like his energy. He brings a different favor to the team that adds something to the, can say the word, chemistry.
Well Swisher only had a 5 RBI game once last season, and only recorded 3 hits in a game twice, and only had a double and a HR in the same game 3 times (none of which were a 3 hit game).
It’s kid of a pet-peeve of mine, but what you’re trying to say is “should’ve”, a shortening of “should have”
I try pretty hard not to be pedantic on message boards, but you’re a good guy and I like talking to you, and this is just one of those things that bugs me
I think Cano saw Pedroia “win” his MVP, and decided that he’d show the douchebag up. He certainly had a good series. Let’s hope he can keep up the momentum.
someone is warming for the yanks?
Yeah, Tex.
ahhh i thought it was in the ‘pen
Show me something, Nady.
Cmon X man
C’mon Nady. Pull a Swish!
Shocker
Nady vs RHP = BENCH!!!!
Nady= bench. heh j/k
For what it’s worth, Swish is making his case for wanting the job…
Someone in the last thread mentioned the iPhone MLB app… I agree, it’s pretty awesome. Well worth the money.
The also have something similar for BBeryy
Really? Well worth 10 freaking bucks?
Seriously?
(I know I sound like a cheapskate and all, but I’ve put a bunch of apps on my phone and they’re all free. It’s the principle of the matter.)
Figure all the audio costs 15 for the computer, its 5 bucks cheaper
That would make it 5 bucks cheaper than something else I’m never going to buy.
dude, I hear you… i’m not big on buying apps at all, but the MLB app is pretty great. if you’re going to be somewhere where you can’t watch on tv or be near a computer, it’ll come in REALLY handy. it gives all sorts of real-time game info, which is really accurate so far, as well as videos, pitch info, fielding info… it’s great. For ten bucks I get to have an app in my pocket that let’s me keep track of every other game really well while i’m sitting in the Stadium all summer? sign me up. probably great for people with long commutes, too.
PS: i forgot… live radio broadcasts of EVERY game. it’s awesome.
pps: both home and away radio broadcasts for each game, you can choose.
Perhaps.
Nevermind.)
yeah I hear you. like I said, if you have reason to be somewhere, with interest in keeping track of games but not opportunity, this app looks to be pretty irreplaceable. otherwise, buy a 6-pack instead.
by the way i get all of my apps for free……jailbreak
you’re a legend.
As the son of two lawyers, a word of advice:
Out of respect for Ben and the other lawyers or lawyers to be around here, try not to talk about any illegal activities you may be engaging in so as not to put them in a sticky ethical situation.
appreciated, but i don’t think anyone’s going before the ethics board because a random internet commenter says he gets iPhone apps for free.
(watch me get disbarred now.)

Michael Kay:
Arguably?
I accidentaly posted this as a reply.
Michael Kay:
Arguably?
WTF, why do all of my comments go as a reply?
I smell a big Cano hit in our immediate future.
CANOli
Cano is en fuego this April.
Wouldn’t it be cool if Gameday showed you who was warming up in the bullpen?
Heh, things you’d never thought you see: Robbie Cano with a .170 IsoD (prior to that hit).
i <3 SWISHA
Nick Swisher AB’s are so damn fun to watch.
Seeing him record a run-scoring hit is that much better.
How effing good is this guy! Start him Joe!
If Swisher isn’t in the lineup tomorrow …
Swisher!!! I hope Girardi is paying attention….
Swish is schooling Nady right now. Get that man guaranteed at-bats!
in play, run(s)!
That’s how to take the starting RF job!
Couldn’t agree more. Not only is he doing it at the plate, but I’d have to say he has a slight edge in fielding. I have no idea why Nady has that cleanup spot today. It should have went to Swisher.
Now let’s see if Ransom can get a big base knock.
Couldn’t agree more. Not only is he doing it at the plate, but I’d have to say he has a
slightpretty freaking large, Grand Canyon-esque edge in fielding.Fixed.
Nick “Full Count” Swisher comes through again.
My turn,my turn….Swisher > Nady.
Susan Waldmans’ favorite reference: “chicken little”
NICK THE STICK!!!
Swisher is gonna test positive for Grit. I read it in a Dominican Newspaper
Cmon!!! earn that grit badge!
Grit? I had grits in the south and they are an aquired taste.
A-C-Q-U-I-R-E-D
also,
http://www.instantcrickets.com
This has been a very gritty inning, Grit better be part of all that grit.
Sterling: “Ponson pitching tomorrow. Joe G. should sub Nady for Swisher. Load up on lefties.”
The man is not totally clueless.
As much as I dislike him, he does have his moments.
FAIL.
I <3 Bass
He gritted all over that ball, hence the wild throw!
He makes things happen!!!!!!
I was yelling at Gardner until Bass messed that one up – way to go O’s. A nice little two-run error. Can we credit Bass with two RBIs?
Anybody else using MLB.com Gameday to follow right now? Its current wisdom on Gardner: “Loves to face: Changeup. Hates to face: Changeup.”
Here’s to you, Twilight Zone Gardner.
i’d imagine that thing is dynamic, and works off results…might just so happen that most of gardners hits have come off the change up and most of his outs came off the change up…it’ll change when theres more data
Mike if you have the time what about one of those graphs for mo??
No Way Nady scores on the pathetic excuse of a throw by Bass.
Anybody else think Burnett is done after 5?
Bretty G gets things done. He made that all happen. Never go, Brett. Never go.
the grittiness was the only thing preventing a rally killing 1-2-3 DP!!!!
ahahaha
GRIT!
Clutch hit for Molina!!
Theres a real puss line to right!!
I like baseball; this is fun.
Okay guys! Lets pile it on!
Mo bless Ransom and Gardner and Brett’s clutch.
Oh my goodness… they look like a real baseball team. THEY LOOK LIKE A REAL BASEBALL TEAM.
I’m going to miss the Beer League/99-03 Red Sox style of play.
The Orioles still have HORRIBLE relief pitching…
Okay, for those of us not watching, but merely following on ESPN GameCast, you’re going to have to elucidate us on what just happened.
All I got is “Garnder safe at second on throwing error by pitcher Bass, Cano and Swisher scored, Ransom to third.
Was that a squeeze bunt with a wild throw to first induced by Gardner hustling down the line?
Nope. A tapper back to the mound, pitcher made a bad throw home.
Which pretty much sums up the rest of the at bats too. ZING
Gardner hit a chopper to the pitcher, Bass; Bass threw the ball over the glove of the catcher, Moeller; runners advanced as the ball went to the backstop.
Brett hit a week chop to pitcher. Pithcer threw home and Moehler couldnt catch the wide throw.
All the Gardner shit was sarcasm. We kid because we care…
no, it was an unforced error. should have been a DP. Yanks got lucky.
Nostalgia.
Jeter <3′s gidp
there’s the captain we know and love
The 1st of many this season…
As long as nothing catastrophic happens looks like the O’Neill Corrolary will be further proved.
?
I like Hofstadter’s Law better than O’Neill’s Corrolary:
It always takes longer than you think, even when you take into account Hofstadter’s Law.
more ?.
I’m hoping Burnett can have a quick little inning here. Sit them down, keep the momentum going the Yankees way and hand the game off to the bullpen.
This ump is a jackass.
Gotta agree. That was a strike if I ever saw one.
Alright, let’s see if Phil Coke can keep the O’s in the park today.
Damn Burnett is done. No quality starts yet for the Yankees starters so far this season.
What are you looking for a negative! cmon man.
Sorry.
crack analysis from Abraham:
UPDATE, 3:25 p.m.: Ross Ohlendorf pitched a gem today for the Pirates. Six shutout innings so far. It was a good trade at the time but he’ll be the guy they regret losing, not Tabata.
I will never miss Ohlendorf.
I’ll miss him.
…
Naw, not really.
small sample size! check the scouting reports next time Pete
Umm sure…..if by that he means losing a 5th starter making the league minimum.
didn’t Karstens pitch two “gems” last year for the Pirates before he remembered he’s Jeff Karstens?
Darrel Rasner pitched some gems last year, before he came back down to earth
Karstens was pretty darn close to a perfect game last year.
Ooooh, Cokefiend.
Big bounceback time here. Let’s go.
Who does everybody want to win…Sox or Rays?? Who finishes better? I still want the Rays in that game..the Sox are coming back though…
Double Forfeit.
HOLY CANOli
I’ll take the meteor.
Nice job Coke. Now hopefully Girardi doesnt leave him in for another 2 innings and wait for him to give up a HR to take him out….
not trying to pick on you, but if you give up a HR to Cesar Izturis, it’s not the manager’s fault.
just sayin’…
True.
Although, he may have been complaining more about the general theme of the bad precedent established from MarteGate from 2008 and not specifically about Opening Day 2009.
i’ll have a coke and a smile
Hot damn, Phil Coke is awesome.
I think Coke is the real thing.
DUCWIDT?
Coke….Real Thing…old marketing phrase……….Bueller?
Meh.
“A nastsy deuce” cmon Kay
Xavier Nady and Nick Swisher: Dueling Banjos
That was beautiful.
Whaddya know?
Oh, Cano, you are fucking awesome.
RAB faithful, please don’t let this go to waste: http://tinyurl.com/dyjb76
Varitek. Change we can believe in.
That could be, and I’m not saying this just because its affliated with the Red Sox, the GAYEST thing that I have ever seen.
DAMN!
That’s some hittin for Cano!
F*CK and YES.
i am so not regretting drafting cano…..
Cano = All-Star
atta be robi
POSIEDON, LOOK AT MEEEEEEEEE! WOAH-OH!!!
Swishers ridin dolphin, doin flips and shit.
HE’S ON A BOAT!!!
ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!!!!!
I’ve been in class since 12:30 but…NICK SWISHER, BABY! WOO!
Seemingly counterintuitive (but not) reason #1 why I like Swisher more than Nady:
Swisher makes productive outs.
Swisher has seen 28 pitches in his 4 at bats (8-7-6-7). That’s ridiculous.
ROBBYYY!!!!!!
Nasty Slide.
Mo might be coming in later he needs some work.
First Coke, now Veras. I’m telling you, I love how interchangeably good our relievers are at racking up strikeouts.
They’re like the Imperial Stormtroopers.
or fracking centurions!
BSG!
Those jokes
———
my head
(I’ll just take your word for it that they’re hilarious.)
Veras ahead in the count = Money.
veras is dealing
Whoops, didn’t mean to post this as a reply: http://tinyurl.com/dyjb76
Wow.
Yea, right. Some captain…
Did it make you grit yourself too, or was I the only one?
I hope we get to see A-rod get him in a headlock once more..
way to earn that AB melky
So yeah that was a shitty pinch hitting appearance by Melky but I think we just got Jeter out for the defensive Pena while ahead late in a game. Hope to see this more later in the season
When I see that happening in a game up at Fenway, bottom of the 9th, Yanks up by 1, I’ll believe (that Girardi has giant balls of steel).
that guy that caught swisher’s HR was like “what”
Girardi lifts Jeter to pinch hit Melky. He’s got balls. Beautiful.
And then, we get the defensive replacement in Peña, all under the guise of giving the youngsters some run. Brilliant.
Oh k. k. k.
shit that came out wrong.
Heh.
LIVE, FROM THE APOLLO THEATER IN HARLEM, IT’S
KRUSTY’S
KOMEDY
KLASSICS!!!
Coke-Marte-Bruney:
8 batters faced, 8 batters retired, 5 strikeouts.
Someone put Wallace Matthews on suicide watch… I think we may end up being okay in the 8th inning after all.
Ramiro Pena > Elvis Andrus.
Pena = Cooperstown.
Wait right there, lemme go get Winston Wolf, he’s got something to tell you.
You’ve got a corpse in a car?
funny moment in the dodgers game: clayton kershaw on third, manny at the plate, third base ump calls time to advise clayton to take his lead in foul territory so he won’t be killed by a line drive
i dont get it, espn gamecast says pena s hitting….how is that possible? shouldnt it be damon?
Melky hit for Jeter, Pena replaced Damon. It acted like a double-switch.
double switch? so you can switch their spots in the lineup?
Yes and no.
Peña replaced Damon, Melky replaced Jeter. You’re not “switching their spots in the lineup”, just flipping who plays what position.
weird. ok thank you all. this gamecast gives absolutly no info
Classic doubleswitch.
jsb fail.
Melky takes Jeter’s spot, Pena takes Damon’s spot. Everything totally normal…
Heh, only Mike Francesa can praise Bronson Arroyo after today’s outing.
if he doesnt say it, nobody will.
Cano is clearly amazing, and I guess our bullpen aint so bad after all.
Did you sleep last season? Our bullpen is great.
Do you not understand sarcasm?
11-2 Yankees
Nick Swisher: Not Xavier Nady.
Oh boy… Swisher’s looking prettay, prettay good.
Start. Him.
Swisher trying to take a stranglehold on the starting RF job eh?
Markakis ends the inning
what’s the record for pitches seen in a game?
if Swisher is really going to be 2006-2007 Swisher, this team is going to be awesome.
Cashman would look like such a genius
Betemit and Marquez for 2006-2007 Swisher
Agree
EVERYONE CHECK OUT THE PITCHING LINE ON CARL PAVANO!!! HERES ALITTLE TASTE: 1IP, 9R, 9ER.
Are you kidding?
your not kidding.
LMAO
Far from it. Atleast he completed the whole first inning without getting hurt… YAY CLEVELAND!
Better late than never?
I was wondering how many times of one game would I see the Swisher for Nady thing come up?
Yes about 300 times that what I figure it’s going to be a long year.
Long in a good way.
(That’s what SHE said!)
Agree I can deal with it if they both hit advantage YANKEES.
Me too.
(But, to be perfectly frank, I can deal with it if only one of them hits. It’s not what either of us want, but it’s the truth, isn’t it?)
Yes. I’m still pulling for Nady but I must admit Swisher is growing on me fast. Nothing to do with today although it didn’t hurt, but I like his energy. He brings a different favor to the team that adds something to the, can say the word, chemistry.
I’ll take Nick Swisher and his 5 RBI day anytime…
I second that…I just wanted a W
Kyle Davies tossed a gem today
from here on = 1998 after the 1-4 start
Well Swisher only had a 5 RBI game once last season, and only recorded 3 hits in a game twice, and only had a double and a HR in the same game 3 times (none of which were a 3 hit game).
Net in net much better start this year
Anyone know what happened with Mike Lowell?
Never mind, just pinch-ran for.
Lifted for a pinch runner in the bottom of the ninth.
Okajima now has walked the bases loaded. When the Sox lose this game, it will be because they failed to do three crucial things:
Work. Fight. Sacrifice.
Bottom of the eighth, my bad.
up the fearless leader went deep.
****TB Pen Meltdown Alert***
Did anyone catch Dotel’s outing?
6 Ks in 2 innings pitched. Fuego!
Damn, his first outing was 1 inning 3Ks
Should of kept him.
It’s kid of a pet-peeve of mine, but what you’re trying to say is “should’ve”, a shortening of “should have”
I try pretty hard not to be pedantic on message boards, but you’re a good guy and I like talking to you, and this is just one of those things that bugs me
Thank you for saying this so I didn’t have to. I hate the “should of” mistake.
OMG, he also put a period at the end of it even though it’s not a sentence. How does he sleep at night?
Let the games begin!
DAMMIT 2 HR already for Jason!? WTF
Why is Troy Percival pitching important innings for a contender?
Until the Rays panic and put Wade Davis in the pen
Troy Percival’s GameCast picture makes him look like the creepy guy up the block your parents told you to avoid.
how is it possible that the Red Sox and Yankees have the same record?
Because they are only three games in, but don’t tell the Mets fans that they think they are one win from the World Series.
I think Cano saw Pedroia “win” his MVP, and decided that he’d show the douchebag up. He certainly had a good series. Let’s hope he can keep up the momentum.
While I’m happy to see Cano doing well, couldn’t he at least look like he cares?
is this a serious comment?
