Nady to undergo MRI on elbow
ByPer PeteAbe, Xavier Nady wasn’t replaced for defensive purposes in the eighth inning. He felt a sharp pain in his elbow and will undergo an MRI tomorrow. Back in 2002 Nady had Tommy John surgery. We can only hope this isn’t that serious.

Ah f*ck.

damn, this doesn’t sound good at all…
Well, on the plus side, it’ll make it a lot easier to get Posada and Swisher in the lineup. Right? Silver lining?
http://www.instantcrickets.com
Shoulda traded him when we coulda got something!!!!!! We coulda gots teh Johan!!!!!!!!!!!!
Switching a ‘t’ and an ‘h’ does not make your comment funny.
It was only funny in the first place because it was actually plausible that people think that way. Applying the same concept to……..I dunno….EVERYTHING doesn’t really work.

says the guy named “radnom”….I KEED I KEED!!!!

hashahaha thank you for linking that. I might never have seen it otherwise
cONSIDERING YOU WOULDN’T BE PLAYING nADY OVER sWISHER THE WAY sWISH IS HITTING RIGHT NOW ANYWAY; ITS JUST NEWS THAT THE 4TH of IS POSSIBLY INJURED POSSIBLY NOT. i’M NOT TOO WORRIED.
wow, um yeah. Didn’t notice capslock was on.
I DON’T KNOW WHAT WE’RE YELLING ABOUT!!!!!!!!
Caps lock fAIL.
Yes, that’s the way they are looking to get players playing time.
Makes sense to me.
Jim Edmonds!
Well … shit.
Good news: Nady’s already in Tampa. We’ll know the results pretty soon i imagine.
I thought the whole reason the Yankees had him shelve his slider was to avoid this exact scenario?
Argh.
Huh? Nady threw a slider from right field?
TINSTAPP!
drugs are bad, mmkay?
And as someone mentioned on LoHud, this now signals the end of the Nick Swisher ‘Dream Season’.
Because…
of our luck the last few seasons.
I still don’t get it.
If Swisher doesn’t have any competition for RF, recent Yankees luck dictates Swisher will fall back to the mean in a hurry.
Good think “luck” isn’t predictable or patterned.
Only if you notice it when you notice it.
There is no luck. There is only Nick Swisher.
Okay, I’m not sure if you’re aware. NICK SWISHER WILL NOT HIT .500. As far as falling back to the mean. What is his mean, 35 homeruns? that will get him over 100 rbi’s on this team. Also, we better not let him pitch again, he might FALL BACK TO THE MEAN IN A HURRY.
Is it the same elbow?
I’m going to assume so, perhaps ignorantly. The pain tonight was in his right elbow. Would it make sense to get TJ surgery on a non throwing elbow? I’m going to go with no, and figure it was his right elbow last time as well.
I’m liking the 2009 Matsuzaka.
He’s very Wangian tonight
Posnerian?
Ponsnerian.
Don’t leave out that first N.
D’oh!
You’re both wrong.
Posnerian refers to a judge on the Seventh Circuit.
Ponsonian is what you’re looking for.
No, Ponsonian would apply only to Sidney Ponson’s craptacularness. That’s crappy, but not quite crappy enough for the adjective we’ve got in mind.
Ponsonian + Rasnerian = Ponsnerian.
WTF happened to Matsuzaka-san?? 5 run first inning!
Looks like the luck stayed in boston.
I dont want to jump to conclusions, but this cant be good…
well they could take the MRI and find candy in there. That would be good, no?
Depends what kind
Defiantly, if it was 100 Grand I would be happy, butterfingers, not so much.
Damnit, Bryan, now you made me hungry for a 100 Grand bar, and I’m already comfy in the house. I can’t go downstairs to the bodega now…

fuck, I landed on moot
Considering Matsui can’t play the field until June, perhaps Shelley Duncan for the bench if it’s a 60 day DL worthy injury and it opens a 40 man spot?
I’d rather have John Rodriguez.
who would be DFA for him? Ransom? Sanchez?
Nobody, if Nady goes on the 60 Day DL it opens up a spot on the 40 man roster
I figure Shelley gives us an option at 1B as well (that Rodriguez doesn’t) – especially considering this Teixeira quasi-injury.
Meh, even if we play Swish exclusively in RF now on, we still have Posada as a 1B backup.
Considering his health issues I hate the idea of playing Hip Hip at 1B quite a bit…
“Considering Matsui can’t play the field
until Juneever again…”Fixed.
Good point
But he plays CF on the Yankees in 2011(MLB The Show)
Glad everyone’s call/demand for a trade of one of their outfielders went unanswered.
In semi-related news, Chris Carpenter was just taken out of the game for health reasons.
Here’s hoping he has the flu.
yikes.
Fuck. That guy is cursed.
What’s crazy is that Chris Carpenter is now making Rich Harden look like Cal Ripken Jr.
Shits, hes on my fantasy team
Yea, mine too
And I am three.
my cardinal fan wife is freaking out
I wonder if it was because of that weak little toss to the cutoff man on the sac fly that tied the game. A sharp pain is different from the pop TJers usually hear, but that doesn’t make it better.
Or the weak toss was because he was feeling discomfort.
Could have had some scar tissue tear.
John Rodriguez gets promoted, if the injury is serious?
If this is a serious injury, what better time to ‘break in’ Derek to the OF.
This stinks up the good night.
Meh, I’m going to remain optimistic until there’s an MRI showing damage or a report stating it’s serious.
May end up being nothing. Nady could be back in under a week for all we know.
While this will get The Nick Swisher more playing time, I’d rather Nady not be hurt.
i think Swisher had pretty much cemented himself in the lineup going forward.
this is about their depth, and this would be a pretty big blow.
the drop of from Nady to Melky is pretty steep.
Nady is “boring”, but he’s had a hit in every game. that’s pretty nice from your 4th OFer…
hopefully it’s nothing.
Potentially even with an iffy elbow he can still play this season.
ouch! fu*ck
Heh, Eveland and Matsuzaka threw 83 combined pitches in the first inning.
Matzusaka out. Masterson in.
1 inning of 5 run ball. 43 pitches.
I know this doesn’t sound good but shouldn’t we at least wait until the MRI comes back before we start declaring him 60-day DL bound…
I was actually impressed with what I thought was Girardi’s wicked smart managing.
Nonetheless, we need Nady. I hope he’s fine.
Unrelated but can everyone go on Schilling’s blog (painful, I know) and vote against him in his own greatest pitchers ever bracket poll (what an ass)?
http://38pitches.weei.com/spor.....6s-vs-11s/
dude’s probably diverting every other non-Schilling vote to his name anyway. just stay away from that dude.
should be doc anyway
Eh…
Hope it’s nothing too serious, but it wouldn’t be much of a loss, imo.
yes, it would.
right now, Nady is the 4th OFer, and yet he’s playing in almost every game b/c
1. Matsui is old
2. Damon is old
3. Teixeira got hurt
having a bench player that can start on many teams is a huge luxury.
agree
It would.
Alex and Tex need to get healthy fast

Just wrote a post up about this on my blog with possible fill-in options. http://8thinning.blogspot.com/.....ame-8.html
Does this mean he has been throwing like a girl for a reason?
Hopefully its nothing to be concerned about and only tendonitis or something a few days off could fix. The way Nady quietly racked up a 7 game hitting streak was surprising. Until he gets the big RBIs its easy to underestimate him. If he stays healthy and gets hot maybe he can replicate his numbers with the Pirates last year.
If Nady goes down for any period of time that means Swisher is the everyday RF. It doesn’t seem like Swisher can do anything bad right now. Until he goes into a slump I think Girardi has to play him. He’s been the best hitter and has the highest OBP and SLG on the team. How about his fielding in LF in this past game, really didn’t expect him to reach that one foul ball.
not a good season for Asian SPs so far. Kuroda’s on the DL, Wang / Matsuzaka both looking like some combination of dead arm or whatever, and while Kenshin and Uehara got wins, it hasn’t exactly been pretty.
This must be the year of Kei Igawa.
The sunglasses must never return…never.
Here’s a novel idea if he is injured – rather than bring up a 30 year old bum like Shelley or JRod, why not give old E-Dunc a shot? He’s still only 24, will probably never have a higher minor league BA than he has now (only kinda joking), can play third for Ransuck, and has played some OF this spring.
Or hell, live with Melkman as your backup OF, and bring up Russo to play third. Why waste time on retread bums, when you have some younger guys who are better?
this from petey:
BREAKING NEWS UPDATE, 12:55 p.m.: Nothing official yet, but the word is that Xavier Nady will need surgery.
