Open Thread: RAB Bracket Busters Final Standings

By Mike Axisa

So my brackets sucked. I didn’t have any of the Final Four teams, and had just five of the Elite Eight. My East Bracket was pretty strong, but the rest of it all went to hell. Congratulations to regular RABer Matt, who finished first in our RAB Bracket Buster standings with 161 points, picking 49 of 63 games correctly. He wins bragging rights on par with those tommiesmithjohncarlos received for winning the RAb Fantasy Football League.

Anyway, final standings are after the jump, otherwise use this as your open thread. The Islanders and Devils are playing inconsequential games, but the Rangers have a matchup with Montreal that could very well determine whether or not they make the playoffs. The Knicks are also in action, and you’ve got the Women’s College Basketball Title Game at 8:30 on ESPN. The UConn Lady Huskies have a chance to go 39-0 on the season, which I’m guessing has some kind of historial significance. Anyway, anything goes, just be nice.

Oh, and make sure you vote in this week’s Fan Confidence Poll if you haven’t already. RAB Bracket Busters final standing after the jump.

Same, 6th place despite only getting 1/4 in the final four

Steve H says:

Janie, today I quit my job. And then I told my boss to go fuck himself, and then I blackmailed him for almost sixty thousand dollars. Pass the asparagus.

Matt says:

Brad, for 14 years I’ve been a whore for the advertising industry. The only way I could save myself now is if I start firebombing.

I love that a guy named “Last place” finished in the top 6.

andrew says:

Hahaha, yup, that was me. Going into the Elite Eight, “Busted on the First Day” and “Last Place” were #1 and #2

andrew says:

Also, “Peter Abraham’s Ego” came in 4th to last. Hmmmm…

Kevin G. says:

Am I the only Kevin?, 68 pts

No you are not.

Drew says:

Any NBA’ers in here?
Dwyane Wade for MVP?
I’m biased but what are your thoughts?

Mike Pop says:

Bron all the way.

Mike Pop says:
Drew says:

The whole thing with nba mvp’s is who is most important to their team. At least thats what we assume from past mvp awards, also they must be in the playoffs.
We should all know about how important dwyane is to the heat, 15 wins last year.
We have a rookie PG, our 3 is most renowned for playing on the globe trotters. Haslem is one of my favortie players but he just rebounds and scores off of other’s offense, our center is eh.. the wrong Oneal. If Bron was out, the Cavs would still win some games with a nice roster. If Wade was out, the Heat wouldn’t.
Wade is only behind 7 guys in assists per game, all of which are starting pg’s.
Leads league in scoring, second in league in steals.
That’s my beef.

Mike Pop says:

Ya, I guess you’re right, but with the way voting plays out today….I think Lebron will get the award and in my opinion, he deserves it. He’s averaging great numbers, and he is just more of “that guy”. While Wade is freaking amazing(I hate him because my team I cheer for on the side next to the NEts is the Mavs), I just don’t think he is going to get the MVP.

FWIW, Barkley said Bron Bron is the favorite ;)

Drew says:

eh.. Barkley’s wasted. lol nah but like I said I’m biased, but there are some stats to back me up. They’re both really good which is all that matters.
BTW, if you talk to Devin Harris, tell him Drew says thank you for publicly saying back in ‘06 that you’re gonna make Wade shoot J’s. Wade is like the hulk, you won’t like him when he’s angry.

Mike Pop says:

Lol, that series proved it.

Wade was just….unbelievable. Right when the Mavs lost game 3 the way they did, everyone knew it was going to be rough from there on out.

(Comments wont nest below this level)

andrew says:

I think it comes down to Kobe, Lebron and Wade. I personally would take Kobe out of the conversation for this year because if you took Kobe off the Lakers, they’d still be a good team, but if you remove Wade or Lebron from the Heat or Cavs, IMO, they would be pretty bad. I really can’t decide between Lebron or Wade, they are both very deserving.

Joey says:

Sorry, have to brag, my school gots little MJ! http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa.....id=4048749
He may or may not suck, so fuck you all who want to ruin my high right now :-D

Yankeegirl49 says:

They are hawking Yankee stuff on QVC tonight. Yogi and Bernie are gonna be on. Its on now till 10.
You can all find a birthday present for Rebecca there.

pat says:

Screw QVC, I got the perfect gift for Rebecca RIGHT HERE!

(points towards crotch)

andrew says:

ESPN Radio is Philly has reported an agreement between the Browns and Giants that would send Braylon Edwards to the Giants for a 1st and 5th rounder. This report has not been confirmed anywhere else.

Giants101 is the only place i could find with any reports on it, my friend told me he heard it on the radio.
http://www.screamingsports.com/giants101/

pat says:

Hopefully Braylon’s dropsises were a one season thing.

Mike Pop says:
andrew says:

The site was just updated to say its not true, but that if the story were reported, it was probably based off something concrete. I’m assuming talks are under way. Possibly nothing reported until draft day.

Mike Pop says:

Ya, I just read it. Heh, Newman or Mike Jenkins would shut him down anyways. I wouldn’t be too worried. I’m glad no more Plax, too tall.

pat says:

Word on the street is the Rams might want to trade off the 2nd pick. If thats the case I’ll be buying my Crabtreezy jersey very soon.

Mike Pop says:

I read the Lions might pass the first overall pick till like the 3rd or 4th selection to get Stafford so they can make money. At first I was like WTF? But then I remembered the Vikings did it with Williams after this article mentioned it.

http://www.mlive.com/lions/ind.....e_all.html

pat says:

That would be pretty badass.

(Comments wont nest below this level)
pat says:

wtf why did this just show up an hour later?

andrew says:

Yea, it’s possible, but I would be surprised if they actually did it

(Comments wont nest below this level)

pat says:

That would be pretty badass, as well as smart and intuitive. Exactly the reasons I don’t see the Lions making that decision.

(Comments wont nest below this level)

A.D. says:

San Diego traded away the Vick pick and took LT

(Comments wont nest below this level)
A.D. says:

which doesnt make sense here

andrew says:

Yea, Plax was definitely more talented than Braylon, and a much more difficult matchup, but I also can’t really fault the Giants for getting tired of his antics. The Giants have very little shot at winning the division with their current WR corp so I’m sure Reese will address it. I think the division is fairly wide open right now. The ‘Skins always go out and sign some big time free agents, but they never quite get the job done. I envision the Eagles, Cowboys and Giants battling it out for another exciting year. Hopefully the Cowboys don’t miss TO too much, I think Roy Williams is definitely a step below TO, but the rest of the team can probably pick up the slack.

Mike Pop says:

Yep. Roy is definitely a step below, cause honestly, how many TO’s are there? I wasn’t a huge fan of cutting him at first but Jerry was “forced” to cut him. Can’t blame him if the coaches really wanted TO gone. I hope it makes Romo more comfortable and makes him feel like he can take over in a sense and not worry about one reciever. Obviously I’m just a tad bit biased but I love what Miles Austin brings, he looked great early last year before he went down with the injury. I think with RW, Miles, Crayton, Witt, and Bennet will be good enough. With Felix starting and MB3 “finishing”, I like the Boys’ chances.

Also, doesn’t Miles look like A-Rod? I say it all the time:

http://cache.deadspin.com/asse.....nSmile.jpg

andrew says:

I see the resemblance there.

I feel as if the Giants and Cowboys were put in similar positions with their WR’s and it got to the point where neither could take it anymore. I am upset about Toomer probably leaving though. He is an ideal #2. I think Smith is ready to take over that role, but just in case he isn’t the Giants WR are very, very thin right now. Again, judging by Reese’s success thus far, I have put total faith in him to remedy this situation. I also think with Osi coming back and our revamped LBer’s and DLine, our defense will be vastly improved.

(Comments wont nest below this level)
Mike Pop says:

Oh ya, your defense should be better, scary thought for us Cowboy fans. I agree that they were put in the same type of position with their WR roles. Except Plax had a good chance of not playing at all and going to the slammer, ;) .

As for your Toomer sorrows, here is a picture of A.J. and his sexy wife Karen:

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ovmu.....karen2.jpg

Mike Pop says:

Oh ya, your defense should be better, no doubt. Scary thought for Big D and us fans.

I’m sorry about Toomer, maybe Karen will cheer you up:

andrew says:

Ah… Karen… all better now…

Drew says:

Everyone counts out my Skins. A good season for Campbell will fetch us a great year.

Mike Pop says:

Cause they are a racial slur, noone can take them serious.

(Comments wont nest below this level)

Matt says:

Everyone says the same thing every year. It never happens. Ever.

(Comments wont nest below this level)
andrew says:

Yea that’s what i was saying before… every year they go out and grab some big free agents and then “this year is the year for the Skins” and it never happens. I won’t believe it till i see it.

Mike Pop says:

Sounds like the………..Yankees.

pat says:

Haha I was about 3 seconds from saying that but you beat me to it.

Drew says:

We were in the playoffs in 05 and 07. Last year was a disapointment because Campbell absolutely collapsed… It can happen, this is Campbell’s make or break year. I have hope.

Matthews’ latest attempt to kill logic. That man needs to be hit by a truck.

Mike Pop says:

Ugh, just read that.

Joey says:

Why are you attempting to kill my brain cells?

Yankee1010 says:

I’m just hoping that Matthews will be shamed into killing himself. Here’s hoping.

Joey says:
Mike Pop says:

Not off himself, just retire.

Joey says:

Either way, just buy me the beer

Drew says:

I wish he would just come out, he being Joba, and say for the record, “I’m a starter, I’ve been one my whole life. I will not fail. For the next decade I plan on being a staple in the Yankees rotation along with CC, Wang and Phil.” I know its not “politically correct” because he “needs” to say I’ll do whatever my team wants, but this is the only way these jackasses will give it up already.

That article is so retarded, I had to comment on it’s retardedness.

“The starter sucked yesterday and cost them the game, so they should correct that by putting a potentially excellent starter in the bullpen so he can keep the team in the game in the 7th and 8th inning when their starter sucks the first four innings.”

andrew says:

Reading Matthews actually makes me angry.

pat says:

Lupica really burns my biscuits.

Joey says:

I only read the title, got mad and left, that is just horrendous

Yankee1010 says:

It’s unbelievable that somebody pays him to write that.

andrew says:

Mike, I read your comment, you don’t do yourself enough justice, what you actually wrote over there was much funnier than what you posted here.

I also enjoyed this one: “Hey, Wallace. Too bad we’ll never meet. Have fun meeting the business end of Darwinism.”

Yankee1010 says:

That was me. It’s only a matter of time before he forgets to wear his helmet one day.

Thomas says:

My favorite part: “There seemed to be no way the dreadful Orioles bullpen could protect that one-run lead, and no way the Yankees could fail to win that ballgame. Last April, Joba would have come out of the pen to pitch the eighth, and maybe the seventh, and a game that appeared lost after five innings would have looked very much like a game the Yankees were fated to win.”

Even if Joba came into the game and shut down the O’s, the Yankees didn’t score and still would have lost. For most people this would be a reason to have Joba start, but not Wallace Matthews.

pat says:

Give this girl a rab account-

kristen

Wallace..you are such an empty dolt..get a real job you moron

radnom says:
radnom says:

Our Yankees beat writer, Kat O’Brien, tells me I have to get off this, but as much as I respect her knowledge of this team, I think we’re just going to have to agree to disagree on this issue until one of us is proven right.

Dude, listen. She’s trying to help you. Your career is at stake.

That is, the day Joba returns to the bullpen.

What?~!?

radnom says:

That burns me up a lot more than a young guy doing something stupid in a car

?!?! Joba not being in the bullpen bothers you more than drunk driving?!

pat says:

Dude lives are at stake if Joba is in the starting rotation.

VO says:

If he is in the bullpen there is less chance he will face Youkilis.

Drew says:

Pukealis’s. That’s what it is, he’s a Sox fan.

VO says:

That is by far the funniest thing I have read all day. Guys it’s just a big misunderstanding he meant for that to come out on April Fools Day.

teix is the man says:

am i the only one that thinks mlb 09 the show for psp took like 200 steps back this year? the graphics are horrible compared to last year.

Thomas says:

Let’s go UConn!

Matt says:

I’m nervous about this one. I don’t know why…but I am.

Thomas says:

Hopefully, Angel doesn’t go completely batshit crazy in this game.

Manimal says:

Ugh, the college search has begun.

Thomas says:

Where are you looking at? What are you thinking about for a major?

Manimal says:

I’m going Pre-med. There was a College fair at the Boston Expo center and my whole school went and looked at some colleges. The schools that really impressed me were Uconn, University of New Haven and Fordham

Matt says:

The schools that really impressed me were Uconn,

Thumbsup.

Thomas says:

I agree completely.

Also, my sister got her master’s at UNH and liked it. They got Dick Vermeil to speak at their graduation (he didn’t cry).

Matt says:

I went to high school w/his grandson.

andrew says:

I have a couple friends at UConn and Fordham, both enjoying themselves immensely, can’t go wrong there. Don’t know much about New Haven though.

Manimal says:

Me neither before today, but its on the beach :) . And its conveniently located for me, right between Worcester MA(where I live now) and NY. Kind of price-y though

“I went to Fordham, and IT’S THE BEST PLACE EVER!!”

–Michael Kay.

Matt says:

Get ready to learn your SS number!

Manimal says:

I already know it ;)

pat says:

Bite your tongue young man. You cannot possibly fathom how many people would be instantaneously willing to switch places with you right now.

Joey says:

I’m good, thanks

pat says:

Well I was referring mostly to people who have already graduated from college.

Drew says:

Good Luck dude. I’m graduating from Monmouth University in May.. The job search begins.

Joey says:

Thank Mo I have minimum another 2 years before that happens

Matt says:

Grad school, man. Grad school.

Drew says:

Lol, in time, I’m waiting for my job to pay for it..

Thomas says:

I’m getting the school to pay for me to go to grad school.

Also, I’ve heard start grad school immediately after graduating, so your are still in the rhythm of taking classes, exams, ect.

Kevin G. says:

Hey, I live in Monmouth.

Kevin G. says:

And I went to a Monmouth University to see a play for a field trip.

Yankeegirl49 says:

Once again..I feel old!

Good luck. It can’t be that bad, can it?

Mike Pop says:

I hate school, but I’m bout to hit the lotto, yo!!!

Drew says:

I forgot how cool MLB extra innings is. I bought it a four years ago when I was in Florida and got to watch every Yankee game, and also Bonds chasing the record. I wish it was a few dollars cheaper.. since I have Yes there’s really no point in paying 120 or 140 dollars to watch some other teams once in a while. I’m taking full advatage of this free preview though.

Mike Pop says:

How long does the preview run for?

Drew says:

Through the 12th I believe.

Mike Pop says:

Is the preview offered on Cablevision?

Drew says:

I think it’s offered by all carriers of extra innings. So if they allow you to purchase it, you should get the preview. I’m gonna check out the Dodgers game at 10..

Mike Pop says:

Ya, it was a premature question. The TV’s in my dad’s room and my family room get it, but not in my room where I am. Darn ;( . I even have the cable box that I pay the extra 10 a month for. Damn you CableVision!

Drew says:

*170 dollars, I see the price has gone up.

Manimal says:

It has really changed since then. HD channels, both the home and away feed and a “mix” channels that show 8 games at once. I live outside of NY so it is SO worth it.

Drew says:

Oh yeah, it’s definitely worth it if you don’t get your team on local TV. Also, the home and away feed is great.

Jamal G. says:

Holy shit, you wanna know why the writers of House decided to kill of Dr. Kutner (Kumar from Harold and Kumar) last night? Well, the actor, Kal Penn, scored a position inside the White House as associate director at the Office of Public Liaison.

http://tinyurl.com/cg4ovz

…damn. That explains everything.

Manimal says:

Yeah I knew that already, I was just curious how they would deviate Kutner from the plot(didn’t think it would be that abrupt lol).

Drew says:

A new season of Fringe. Excelente.

Jamal G. says:

A new season of Rescue Me has me breathless.

I agree, the show is finally spreading its wings

pat says:

Poor Edwin Jackson.

Jamal G. says:

My Mo, the Tigers fail at pitching.

Drew says:

Manimal says:

Walter makes fringe worth watching hahahahaha

Drew says:

Lol yea that little dance made my night.

Manimal says:

“Oh please, its not like Ms Dunham hasn’t seen a PENIS before…”

Drew says:

haha. yea I love the show, the best part is that the commercial-breaks last for about 30 seconds.

Manimal says:

haha I wouldn’t say its the best part, but yeah its awesome.

Drew says:

Thomas says:

Is it a good episode tonight?

Manimal says:

Yeah, I missed the first 20 minutes though… its ok, Ill watch it on Hulu tomorrow!

Drew says:

Ha the beginning was awesome. Plus Deacon from king of queens made an appearance.

Jamal G. says:

Uh oh, this fire is making me nervous.

Kevin G. says:

I’m surprised my dad isn’t watching Rescue Me.

A.D. says:

ZOMG Timmy Lincecum’s is teh washed up, Giants are geniuses for not signing him to an extension

Steve H says:

He belongs in the 8th inning.

Jamal G. says:

Michael J. Fox; awesome!!!!

Jamal G. says:

Damn, his Parkison’s has gotten a lot worse.

steve (different one) says:

nah, he’s totally exaggerating it for attention.

Drew says:

I can’t effing wait for tomorrow’s game. I hope Wanger has them worms ‘a burnin.

Thomas says:

WTF, the NCAA lady just called it “the university of UConn.” Seriously, she had all year to practice this speech and she still screwed up.

Drew says:

“A base running boner by Hairston.”
-Dodgers play by play guy
lol I’d like to hear Paulie’s reaction if Kay said something like that.

Jamal G. says:

Lmao, fucking Tommy just told his daughter to not have sex with a guy, but “do the Clinton thing”. Epic.

Brian C says:

Mike,

Not to be too nit-picky but…how can you have no Final 4 teams if you had 5 of the Elite 8? You must have had one! If not, that’s some otherworldly-bad picking!
