Open Thread: RAB Bracket Busters Final Standings

By

So my brackets sucked. I didn’t have any of the Final Four teams, and had just five of the Elite Eight. My East Bracket was pretty strong, but the rest of it all went to hell. Congratulations to regular RABer Matt, who finished first in our RAB Bracket Buster standings with 161 points, picking 49 of 63 games correctly. He wins bragging rights on par with those tommiesmithjohncarlos received for winning the RAb Fantasy Football League.

Anyway, final standings are after the jump, otherwise use this as your open thread. The Islanders and Devils are playing inconsequential games, but the Rangers have a matchup with Montreal that could very well determine whether or not they make the playoffs. The Knicks are also in action, and you’ve got the Women’s College Basketball Title Game at 8:30 on ESPN. The UConn Lady Huskies have a chance to go 39-0 on the season, which I’m guessing has some kind of historial significance. Anyway, anything goes, just be nice.

Oh, and make sure you vote in this week’s Fan Confidence Poll if you haven’t already. RAB Bracket Busters final standing after the jump.

Janie, today I quit my job. And then I told my boss to go fuck himself, and then I blackmailed him for almost sixty thousand dollars. Pass the asparagus.

Brad, for 14 years I’ve been a whore for the advertising industry. The only way I could save myself now is if I start firebombing.

Good to see the Royals investment in Farnsworthless is paying off already.

Nice to see the Bengals trying to clean up their image by signing wholesome, savory characters such as Tank Johnson.

We could’ve been on the wrong end of a Josh Beckett FB. Thank you Rays for taking that in the chin.

  7. So who’s getting me a birthday gift on sunday?

Any Devils fans out there, they’re down 2-0 early in the first.

Yay or Nay, A Rod for Ryan Braun?

  10. Mike Pop says:

    I hate you Matt.

  11. Writing my CV makes me feel like an absolute failure. Just FYI.

  12. Kevin G. says:

Am I the only Kevin?, 68 pts

    No you are not.

  13. Drew says:

    Any NBA’ers in here?
    Dwyane Wade for MVP?
I’m biased but what are your thoughts?

    • Mike Pop says:

      Bron all the way.

        • Drew says:

The whole thing with nba mvp’s is who is most important to their team. At least thats what we assume from past mvp awards, also they must be in the playoffs.
We should all know about how important dwyane is to the heat, 15 wins last year.
We have a rookie PG, our 3 is most renowned for playing on the globe trotters. Haslem is one of my favortie players but he just rebounds and scores off of other’s offense, our center is eh.. the wrong Oneal. If Bron was out, the Cavs would still win some games with a nice roster. If Wade was out, the Heat wouldn’t.
Wade is only behind 7 guys in assists per game, all of which are starting pg’s.
Leads league in scoring, second in league in steals.
          That’s my beef.

          • Mike Pop says:

Ya, I guess you’re right, but with the way voting plays out today….I think Lebron will get the award and in my opinion, he deserves it. He’s averaging great numbers, and he is just more of “that guy”. While Wade is freaking amazing(I hate him because my team I cheer for on the side next to the NEts is the Mavs), I just don’t think he is going to get the MVP.

FWIW, Barkley said Bron Bron is the favorite ;)

            • Drew says:

eh.. Barkley’s wasted. lol nah but like I said I’m biased, but there are some stats to back me up. They’re both really good which is all that matters.
BTW, if you talk to Devin Harris, tell him Drew says thank you for publicly saying back in ’06 that you’re gonna make Wade shoot J’s. Wade is like the hulk, you won’t like him when he’s angry.

              • Mike Pop says:

                Lol, that series proved it.

Wade was just….unbelievable. Right when the Mavs lost game 3 the way they did, everyone knew it was going to be rough from there on out.

    • andrew says:

I think it comes down to Kobe, Lebron and Wade. I personally would take Kobe out of the conversation for this year because if you took Kobe off the Lakers, they’d still be a good team, but if you remove Wade or Lebron from the Heat or Cavs, IMO, they would be pretty bad. I really can’t decide between Lebron or Wade, they are both very deserving.

  14. Joey says:

Sorry, have to brag, my school gots little MJ! http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa.....id=4048749

You can all find a birthday present for Rebecca there.

  16. andrew says:

ESPN Radio is Philly has reported an agreement between the Browns and Giants that would send Braylon Edwards to the Giants for a 1st and 5th rounder. This report has not been confirmed anywhere else.

Giants101 is the only place i could find with any reports on it, my friend told me he heard it on the radio.
    http://www.screamingsports.com/giants101/

    • pat says:

Hopefully Braylon’s dropsises were a one season thing.

      • andrew says:

The site was just updated to say its not true, but that if the story were reported, it was probably based off something concrete. I’m assuming talks are under way. Possibly nothing reported until draft day.

        • Mike Pop says:

Ya, I just read it. Heh, Newman or Mike Jenkins would shut him down anyways. I wouldn’t be too worried. I’m glad no more Plax, too tall.

          • pat says:

Word on the street is the Rams might want to trade off the 2nd pick. If thats the case I’ll be buying my Crabtreezy jersey very soon.

          • andrew says:

Yea, Plax was definitely more talented than Braylon, and a much more difficult matchup, but I also can’t really fault the Giants for getting tired of his antics. The Giants have very little shot at winning the division with their current WR corp so I’m sure Reese will address it. I think the division is fairly wide open right now. The ‘Skins always go out and sign some big time free agents, but they never quite get the job done. I envision the Eagles, Cowboys and Giants battling it out for another exciting year. Hopefully the Cowboys don’t miss TO too much, I think Roy Williams is definitely a step below TO, but the rest of the team can probably pick up the slack.

            • Mike Pop says:

Yep. Roy is definitely a step below, cause honestly, how many TO’s are there? I wasn’t a huge fan of cutting him at first but Jerry was “forced” to cut him. Can’t blame him if the coaches really wanted TO gone. I hope it makes Romo more comfortable and makes him feel like he can take over in a sense and not worry about one reciever. Obviously I’m just a tad bit biased but I love what Miles Austin brings, he looked great early last year before he went down with the injury. I think with RW, Miles, Crayton, Witt, and Bennet will be good enough. With Felix starting and MB3 “finishing”, I like the Boys’ chances.

Also, doesn’t Miles look like A-Rod? I say it all the time:

              http://cache.deadspin.com/asse.....nSmile.jpg

              • andrew says:

                I see the resemblance there.

I feel as if the Giants and Cowboys were put in similar positions with their WR’s and it got to the point where neither could take it anymore. I am upset about Toomer probably leaving though. He is an ideal #2. I think Smith is ready to take over that role, but just in case he isn’t the Giants WR are very, very thin right now. Again, judging by Reese’s success thus far, I have put total faith in him to remedy this situation. I also think with Osi coming back and our revamped LBer’s and DLine, our defense will be vastly improved.

            • Drew says:

Everyone counts out my Skins. A good season for Campbell will fetch us a great year.

Matthews’ latest attempt to kill logic. That man needs to be hit by a truck.

    • Mike Pop says:

      Ugh, just read that.

    • Joey says:

Why are you attempting to kill my brain cells?

    • Drew says:

I wish he would just come out, he being Joba, and say for the record, “I’m a starter, I’ve been one my whole life. I will not fail. For the next decade I plan on being a staple in the Yankees rotation along with CC, Wang and Phil.” I know its not “politically correct” because he “needs” to say I’ll do whatever my team wants, but this is the only way these jackasses will give it up already.

    • Mike Axisa says:

That article is so retarded, I had to comment on it’s retardedness.

“The starter sucked yesterday and cost them the game, so they should correct that by putting a potentially excellent starter in the bullpen so he can keep the team in the game in the 7th and 8th inning when their starter sucks the first four innings.”

    • Thomas says:

My favorite part: “There seemed to be no way the dreadful Orioles bullpen could protect that one-run lead, and no way the Yankees could fail to win that ballgame. Last April, Joba would have come out of the pen to pitch the eighth, and maybe the seventh, and a game that appeared lost after five innings would have looked very much like a game the Yankees were fated to win.”

Even if Joba came into the game and shut down the O’s, the Yankees didn’t score and still would have lost. For most people this would be a reason to have Joba start, but not Wallace Matthews.

    • pat says:

Wallace..you are such an empty dolt..get a real job you moron

      Ho Ly Shit

      • radnom says:

Our Yankees beat writer, Kat O’Brien, tells me I have to get off this, but as much as I respect her knowledge of this team, I think we’re just going to have to agree to disagree on this issue until one of us is proven right.

Dude, listen. She’s trying to help you. Your career is at stake.

That is, the day Joba returns to the bullpen.

        What?~!?

      • radnom says:

That burns me up a lot more than a young guy doing something stupid in a car

?!?! Joba not being in the bullpen bothers you more than drunk driving?!

    • VO says:

That is by far the funniest thing I have read all day. Guys it’s just a big misunderstanding he meant for that to come out on April Fools Day.

Ugh, the college search has begun.

  21. Drew says:

I forgot how cool MLB extra innings is. I bought it a four years ago when I was in Florida and got to watch every Yankee game, and also Bonds chasing the record. I wish it was a few dollars cheaper.. since I have Yes there’s really no point in paying 120 or 140 dollars to watch some other teams once in a while. I’m taking full advatage of this free preview though.

    Mike,

Not to be too nit-picky but…how can you have no Final 4 teams if you had 5 of the Elite 8? You must have had one! If not, that’s some otherworldly-bad picking!
