Report: A-Rod could be back in late April

By

While the Yankees have publicly set May 15 as Alex Rodriguez‘s return date from hip surgery, a new report alleges that A-Rod could return by late April. A-Rod, out since going under the knife on March 9, has begun to swing the bat and according to Kevin Long, is at about 70 percent strength. The Yankees will move A-Rod from Colorado to Tampa this week, and if all goes better than planned, A-Rod could be back before April ends. The sooner the Yanks get A-Rod back, the better off they will be.

I hope this is right. I won’t bet my life on it, but I hope it’s true.

How is he healinG so Hurriedly?

  3. Manimal says:

Joe Girardi said Arod hasn’t responded to his messages yet so how could the press know about his progress before his manager?

    • How could the press know before his manager? I could think of a few ways.

      1. A-Rod told them.
      2. Scott Boras told them.
      3. A-Rod’s doctor told them. (Unlikely because it’s illegal.)
      4. Brian Cashman spoke to A-Rod and told the press.
      5. A-Rod spoke to someone else and that someone else told the press.

I could keep going, but my point is that just because A-Rod hasn’t spoken to Girardi doesn’t mean that someone else doesn’t know. Who said that A-Rod hasn’t returned Girardi’s calls anyway?

      • “3. A-Rod’s doctor told them. (Unlikely because it’s illegal.)”

Heh. Reminds me of when we found out that Torre learned about his cancer from Big Stein and not a doctor.

“Girardi said he is waiting for Alex Rodriguez to return a message so he can find out how his rehab is progressing.”

Lohud, posted at 3:38, the article is 5:40 so he could have called in that 2 hours.

Anyways, I see your point but I find it hard to believe that they would call anyone else before Girardi. Maybe Cashman but he would’ve relayed the message to Girardi pretty much right after.

I think it said he’d been talking with Kevin Long every day, something I didn’t know till now, not sure if it had been previously known publicly

    • Steve H says:

Uh oh. Jay Cutler part deux.

  4. GG says:

Opening Day at the Stadium would be like five and a half weeks I believe, you’d have to think he wants to be there very badly.

Yet another reason why I am extremely optimistic about this season.

  7. Joey H says:

I said this last week. I’m sticking by April 20th.

  8. dkidd says:

if (sorry, when) we start strong out of the gate, the tabloids will go crazy with “yanks are better off without alex” crapola. the sooner he gets back and nips that in the bud, the better

  9. dkidd says:

it’s scary how fast narratives take root. 5-1 after six games and the story becomes “team finds chemistry without alex”

  10. Mark says:

If Spring Training is any indication of anything, then the Yankees seem to be prepared out of the game. Hopefully their April record reflects the amount of talent that they have on the team.

  11. [...] River Ave. Blues, Alex Rodriguez is doing well and may be back at the end of April. I’m not that surprised by [...]
