Scranton’s undefeated season continues

By

RHP Jairo Heredia, LHP Wilkins DeLaRosa and 1B Jorge Vazquez were all placed on the 7-day DL according to BA’s minor league transactions. It’s a shame how far LHP Greg Miller, who was released by the Dodgers, has fallen. He and Scott Kazmir were the two best lefty pitching prospects in the game back around ’03-’04, but injuries did Miller in and he never was able to get back on track.

Juan Miranda was named International League Hitter of the Week thanks to his four game, eleven RBI binge against Lehigh Valley.

Triple-A Scranton (6-5 win over Buffalo)
Kevin Russo & Shelley Duncan: both 2 for 5, 1 RBI – Russo K’ed … Shelley homered, scored a pair of runs & K’ed twice
Eric Duncan & Justin Leone: both 1 for 3, 1 R, 1 BB – Leone hit a three run homer & K’ed
Todd Linden: 0 for 5, 2 K
Juan Miranda: 1 for 5, 3 K
Austin Jackson: 3 for 5, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K – .500-.560-.591 in five games so far
Angel Berroa: 2 for 4, 1 R, 1 K
Chris Stewart: 1 for 4, 1 K
The Ghost of Kei Igawa: 5 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 5-8 GB/FB – 46 of 73 pitches were strikes (63.0%) … served up three homers, one to the Mets’ top prospect … Mets fans should be proud
David Robertson: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K, 0-1 GB/FB – 27 of 42 pitches were strikes (64.3%) … they really should call him up, he’s got nothing left to prove in the minors
Brett Tomko: 1 IP, zeroes, 1 K, 1-1 GB/FB – 9 of his 13 pitches were strikes (69.2%) … nails down his first save opportunity of the year

Double-A Trenton (5-2 win over Harrisburg)
Eduardo Nunez: 1 for 5, 2 K
Reegie Corona: 2 for 4, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K
Colin Curtis, Chris Malec & Kevin Smith: all 2 for 3, 1 R – Curtis doubled, drove in a run, drew two walks & was picked off first … Malec drove in a run & walked once … Smith doubled, plated a run, drew a walk & K’ed
Edwar Gonzalez: 1 for 3, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 2 K, 1 HBP
Marcos Vechionacci: 0 for 4, 1 K
Frankie Cervelli: 1 for 4, 1 K – that’s his first hit of the season
Seth Fortenberry: 1 for 4, 1 R, 1 3B, 2 K
Ryan Pope: 4.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 3-6 GB/FB – this would be a good year for the ’07 third rounder to prove he wasn’t an overdraft
Kanekoa Texeira: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 1-3 GB/FB
Mike Dunn: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 1-1 GB/FB

High-A Tampa (4-2 win over Lakeland)
The Austins: both 2 for 4 – Krum doubled & drew a walk … Romineswiped a bag, scored a run & K’ed
Eric Fryer: 3 for 5, 2 RBI, 2 K, 1 SB – that’s his third steal of the year … he’s got more speed than I though
Jesus Montero: 1 for 4, 1 RBI, 1 K – DH’ed tonight for the second game in a row, so he and Romine are definitely catching multipe games in a row now
Brandon Laird & Matt Cusick: both 0 for 4 – Laird K’ed
Damon Sublett: 1 for 3, 1 BB
Addison Maruszack: 2 for 4, 2 R, 1 RBI
Lance Pendleton: 4.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 7-4 GB/FB
Noel Castillo: 2.1 Ip, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 HB, 3-2 GB/FB
Jon Hovis: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 2-2 GB/FB – you gotta love the sidearming relievers that spend four years at a major college program and are two or more years too old for their league and just dominate

Low-A Charleston had a scheduled off day.

  1. Matt says:

    Maybe A-Jax can play 3rd.

    But, yeah, call up Robertson.

  2. A.D. says:

Are Heredia, WDL, and Vazquez actually injured, or is this just for where they can park them?

  3. pat says:

    holy fucking shit

  4. Drew says:

WHAT IS THIS! K for Swish!!!

  5. Drew says:

I guess D Rob won’t get the call. He won’t be available tomorrow after 3 innings today.

  6. Lanny says:

Good thing they pitched Robertson 3 inn tonight so he cant be called up tomorrow.

  7. Swisher’s the Yankees’ most effective pitcher this evening.

Man this guy really can do no wrong.

    • Dave M says:

Yeah, I’d have to say that Swisher is the best player on the team right now. Who would have thought that after the year he had last year? :-)

  8. Hypothetically, lets say its June and Ajax is hitting .300-.400 in AAA, and melky and gardner arent producing… do you give him a shot? The rangers, albeit arent a contender, but did the same thing basically with andrus, and the orioles will do the same thing with weiters.

    • A.D. says:

It would be tempting, but right not A-Jax has mainly been singling.

I don’t see how thats what they did with Andrus, they had him to start the season.

Its what TB did with Longoria though, but he was essentially ready, and what Milwaukee did with Braun

  9. Tripp says:

“they really should call him up, he’s got nothing left to prove in the minors”

Actually, when they sent him down at the end of spring training Girardi said that he only pitched okay and had things to work on before he’d get called back up….

  10. A.D. says:

Should Russo be the guy manning 3rd for the Yanks right now?

    • Drew says:

I’d say yea but he should probly spend a full year in AAA so he can come up next year or at the end of this year. Duncan or Berroa should be up here and ramiro should go get AB’s in AAA

  11. A.D. says:

Was there any word on Bliech from last week, healthy and just pitch count?

  12. Tseng says:

They don’t need a long reliever. Swisher is their long reliever. They’ll probably option a reliever that can be optioned down for a fresh arm in case Burnett tanks as well.

Otherwise they’ll rely on Swisher for mop up duty. Rumor has it if Wang continues to struggle, Swisher will take his rotation spot (they’re trying to get him in the game as much as possible)

  13. Chuck Norris Ain't Got Nothin on Swisher says:

    When’s Hughes’ next start?

  14. pat says:

BTW that Bossman catch was absolutely amazing.

  15. Reggie C. says:

Posada was having none of swisher’s positive energy. His “nobody was laughing” reply really shut the Yes reporter up. How long before Posada and Swish have words??

    • steve (different one) says:

the tension stems from the time in ST when Posada asked Swisher if he wanted to “borrow his batting gloves”

    • Drew says:

I don’t think its an issue. Swish was laughing coming off the mound and JoPo was serious as usual. Two different dudes. Swish won’t be messing around if we lose a game. What we saw today was not a game it was a massacre.

  16. dan says:

Who’s starting for Trenton tomorrow, Garcia or Nova?

  17. A.D. says:

    Impressive start for Fryer

  18. [...] Confidence Poll « Scranton’s undefeated season continues Apr [...]

  19. dkidd says:

just heard about swisher. can’t believe i stopped watching. should’ve known.

sure i’m the 73rd person to ask:

will there be pitch f/x for swisher?

  20. Rich says:

Robertson should be on the SWB shuttle.

    • Moshe Mandel says:

Only if he is not on the return bus to SWB.

    • Bill says:

Its too bad he pitched 3 innings yesterday. With Albaladejo and Edwar throwing so much yesterday he might’ve gotten the call to provide some depth for at least the next couple of days. Given that he threw 3 innings it wouldn’t make sense to call him up now though.
