Scranton’s undefeated season continues
ByRHP Jairo Heredia, LHP Wilkins DeLaRosa and 1B Jorge Vazquez were all placed on the 7-day DL according to BA’s minor league transactions. It’s a shame how far LHP Greg Miller, who was released by the Dodgers, has fallen. He and Scott Kazmir were the two best lefty pitching prospects in the game back around ‘03-’04, but injuries did Miller in and he never was able to get back on track.
Juan Miranda was named International League Hitter of the Week thanks to his four game, eleven RBI binge against Lehigh Valley.
Triple-A Scranton (6-5 win over Buffalo)
Kevin Russo & Shelley Duncan: both 2 for 5, 1 RBI – Russo K’ed … Shelley homered, scored a pair of runs & K’ed twice

Todd Linden: 0 for 5, 2 K

Angel Berroa: 2 for 4, 1 R, 1 K
Chris Stewart: 1 for 4, 1 K
The Ghost of Kei Igawa: 5 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 5-8 GB/FB – 46 of 73 pitches were strikes (63.0%) … served up three homers, one to the Mets’ top prospect … Mets fans should be proud
David Robertson: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K, 0-1 GB/FB – 27 of 42 pitches were strikes (64.3%) … they really should call him up, he’s got nothing left to prove in the minors
Brett Tomko: 1 IP, zeroes, 1 K, 1-1 GB/FB – 9 of his 13 pitches were strikes (69.2%) … nails down his first save opportunity of the year
Double-A Trenton (5-2 win over Harrisburg)
Eduardo Nunez: 1 for 5, 2 K
Reegie Corona: 2 for 4, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K
Colin Curtis, Chris Malec & Kevin Smith: all 2 for 3, 1 R – Curtis doubled, drove in a run, drew two walks & was picked off first … Malec drove in a run & walked once … Smith doubled, plated a run, drew a walk & K’ed
Edwar Gonzalez: 1 for 3, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 2 K, 1 HBP
Marcos Vechionacci: 0 for 4, 1 K
Frankie Cervelli: 1 for 4, 1 K – that’s his first hit of the season
Seth Fortenberry: 1 for 4, 1 R, 1 3B, 2 K
Ryan Pope: 4.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 3-6 GB/FB – this would be a good year for the ‘07 third rounder to prove he wasn’t an overdraft
Kanekoa Texeira: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 1-3 GB/FB
Mike Dunn: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 1-1 GB/FB
High-A Tampa (4-2 win over Lakeland)
The Austins: both 2 for 4 – Krum doubled & drew a walk … Romineswiped a bag, scored a run & K’ed
Eric Fryer: 3 for 5, 2 RBI, 2 K, 1 SB – that’s his third steal of the year … he’s got more speed than I though
Jesus Montero: 1 for 4, 1 RBI, 1 K – DH’ed tonight for the second game in a row, so he and Romine are definitely catching multipe games in a row now
Brandon Laird & Matt Cusick: both 0 for 4 – Laird K’ed
Damon Sublett: 1 for 3, 1 BB
Addison Maruszack: 2 for 4, 2 R, 1 RBI
Lance Pendleton: 4.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 7-4 GB/FB
Noel Castillo: 2.1 Ip, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 HB, 3-2 GB/FB
Jon Hovis: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 2-2 GB/FB – you gotta love the sidearming relievers that spend four years at a major college program and are two or more years too old for their league and just dominate
Low-A Charleston had a scheduled off day.

This is more cheerful.
Wang’s strike zone scatter plot from tonight.
Wang’s release points from his 1st two starts this season and his complete game start last season around this time, just like how Mike did it.
And guess what? What Mike deduced still applies to this start because, guess what again? His release points between these 1st 2 starts are basically the same. So, it’s mechanical.
I’m bringing misery back. Yeah!
Hey where did you find this on the MLBAM site? I cannot, for the life of me,find the MLBAM page on mlb.com.
http://gd2.mlb.com/components/game/mlb/year_2009/
how bout tracking one from one of wang’s groudnball gems. because if i remember correctly, that game against boston wasnt exactly all about the groundball.
Any chance we can get the release point chart from june 6th 2007? Wang dominated and induced 21 ground balls that game

Something like this you should stick in the Game Thread. This post is about today’s minor league action. Please read and adhere to our commenting guidelines:

Maybe A-Jax can play 3rd.
But, yeah, call up Robertson.
Are Heredia, WDL, and Vazquez actually injured, or is this just for where they can park them?
I’m sure Heredia and DeLaRosa are actually hurt, because they woud want those two guys pitching. I’m sure it’s not anything major.
I’ve heard that Heredia is still in Extended Spring Training. That could be due to an injury or it could be the Yanks’ desire to hold him back.
holy fucking shit
Nick Swisher is pitching?
If he gets hurt I swear to Mo…
WHAT IS THIS! K for Swish!!!
I guess D Rob won’t get the call. He won’t be available tomorrow after 3 innings today.
Good thing they pitched Robertson 3 inn tonight so he cant be called up tomorrow.
The Scranton game was over before the Yankee game even started. Now you’re bitching because they couldn’t tell the future. Awesome.
Called up for who, Lanny? We’re not demoting one of our starters, and none of our relievers have pitched poor enough to merit being benched. We don’t really need a long man anymore since we would have used him tonight (and hence, only need a long man in the past tense) and we’re still not adding Tomko without DFA’ing someone, and DFA’ing someone to bring up a longman we don’t really need doesn’t make sense.
CALLED UP FOR WHO?
STOP SAYING STUPID SHIT THAT DOESN’T MAKE SENSE AND SERVES NO PURPOSE OTHER THAN TO NEEDLESSLY CAST STUPID IDOTIC ASPERSIONS AGAINST THE YANKEE BRAINTRUST.
YOUR COMMENTS ARE WORTHLESS. YOU HAVE BECOME A TRAVESHAMOCKERY OF YOURSELF. YOU HAVE JUMPED YOUR OWN SHARK. YOU ADD NOTHING AT ALL TO THE TABLE AND DO NOTHING OTHER THAN ANNOY AND INFURIATE US ALL.
START MAKING SENSE OR STFU.
I’m sorry for yelling.
Um…the Yanks are a bit short on relievers. They could use a fresh arm, and Albie pitched 3 innings, so he’d be sent down.
Wouldn’t be surprised if Coke was too, just for the sake of 2 fresh arms, but we will see.
yes, i assume Albie is going down, and i’m going to guess it’s Jackson that gets called up.
by pitching Swisher, they saved Bruney, Marte, and Mo for tomorrow.
but TSJC’s larger point is right on, the crack about Robertson was worthless.
It’s okay, the blood is leaving my head again.
I’m going to go calm myself down with a nice cold glass of lemonade.
how the f*ck are you going to make it? all you have are these lemons…
plus infinity
I sets ‘em up, you knocks ‘em down.
I’m
sorry foryelling.OMG NO LONGMAN ON TEAM FOR CRAPPY TAIWANEESE RECALL CASHMAN YOU TEH SUX0R!!!!!!!!!!11!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!eleventy!!!!!!!!!
(and yes, I know we can and probably will swap out Albaladejo for a fresher reliever. It’s not going to be DRob, but it can be Claggett or SteJax or anybody else, and we’ll be totally fine with them because they’re fine relievers too and we’re not remotely in dire straits. So yes, it’s inconvenient that DRob won’t be the one called up, but it’s totally not a big deal like Lanny makes every-single-fucking-thing.
I just can’t stand the tone Lanny always takes. That Debbie Downer shit got so old so long ago it’s drawing Social Security payments already.
Lighten the fuck up or shut the hell up.)
It particularly wont be a big deal, because Claggett or SteJax are going to be sitting there and sent down once the pen is back in whack.
BOLANGRANNY!!
LANNY’S THE DUDE PLAYIN THE DUDE DISGUISED AS ANOTHER DUDE!!!
IETC, quite a bit, actually.
Well done.
GRALANTBONNY!!!
Swisher’s the Yankees’ most effective pitcher this evening.
Man this guy really can do no wrong.
Yeah, I’d have to say that Swisher is the best player on the team right now. Who would have thought that after the year he had last year?
Hypothetically, lets say its June and Ajax is hitting .300-.400 in AAA, and melky and gardner arent producing… do you give him a shot? The rangers, albeit arent a contender, but did the same thing basically with andrus, and the orioles will do the same thing with weiters.
It would be tempting, but right not A-Jax has mainly been singling.
I don’t see how thats what they did with Andrus, they had him to start the season.
Its what TB did with Longoria though, but he was essentially ready, and what Milwaukee did with Braun
“they really should call him up, he’s got nothing left to prove in the minors”
Actually, when they sent him down at the end of spring training Girardi said that he only pitched okay and had things to work on before he’d get called back up….
Should Russo be the guy manning 3rd for the Yanks right now?
I’d say yea but he should probly spend a full year in AAA so he can come up next year or at the end of this year. Duncan or Berroa should be up here and ramiro should go get AB’s in AAA
Was there any word on Bliech from last week, healthy and just pitch count?
he’s getting that nanite TJ surgery in b/w starts. can’t abuse the man’s arm strength yet.
They don’t need a long reliever. Swisher is their long reliever. They’ll probably option a reliever that can be optioned down for a fresh arm in case Burnett tanks as well.
Otherwise they’ll rely on Swisher for mop up duty. Rumor has it if Wang continues to struggle, Swisher will take his rotation spot (they’re trying to get him in the game as much as possible)
Then they can DH for Ransom and let Swish hit.
When’s Hughes’ next start?
5 days from yesterday?
Zing.
Yeah. AAA is on a five-man rotation, and they’re not in the business of skipping guys. So give him four games off and then pencil him back in. Based on their schedule, he’ll pitch on Friday.
I think it’s three days from tomorrow actually.
Chuck Norris Ain’t Got Nothin on Swisher
Nice handle.
Nick Swisher can hit for the cycle on one pitch.
Nick Swisher doesnt use steroids. Steroids use Nick Swisher.
or
Nick Swisher’s tears cure cancer. Too bad Nick Swisher never cries.
If you have five dollars and Nick Swisher has five dollars, Nick Swisher has more money than you.
Nick Swisher once walked down a crowded street with a huge erection.
Sadly, there were no survivors.
Nick Swisher can kill two stones with one bird.
BTW that Bossman catch was absolutely amazing.
Posada was having none of swisher’s positive energy. His “nobody was laughing” reply really shut the Yes reporter up. How long before Posada and Swish have words??
the tension stems from the time in ST when Posada asked Swisher if he wanted to “borrow his batting gloves”
I KNEW IT!!! BASTERD!!
I don’t think its an issue. Swish was laughing coming off the mound and JoPo was serious as usual. Two different dudes. Swish won’t be messing around if we lose a game. What we saw today was not a game it was a massacre.
Who’s starting for Trenton tomorrow, Garcia or Nova?
Impressive start for Fryer
just heard about swisher. can’t believe i stopped watching. should’ve known.
sure i’m the 73rd person to ask:
will there be pitch f/x for swisher?
yes, there will be.
Robertson should be on the SWB shuttle.
Only if he is not on the return bus to SWB.
Its too bad he pitched 3 innings yesterday. With Albaladejo and Edwar throwing so much yesterday he might’ve gotten the call to provide some depth for at least the next couple of days. Given that he threw 3 innings it wouldn’t make sense to call him up now though.
