• Evan

Well Cano is 0 for his last 10. If ARod comes back on Friday, at least Cano picked a good time to go into a slide.

    • Will

As it much as it sucks, the law of averages says he isnt going to hit .375 all year…

      • Evan

Clearly not, but if he went into a hit less streak a week ago, we would have been in big trouble.

      • Chris

He hit .342 a couple years ago, so it’s not unrealistic for him to hit .375 for a full year.

    • Sad Panda

I hope people arent expecting Alex to be in mid season form.

      • Drew

        Yeah, I’m hoping he sucks.

        • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

Heh. Whatever he is, will be an upgrade over Ramiro or Ransom.

Anyone else disappointed that Sterling no longer says “demonic” when calling a Johnny Damon jack?

    • Evan

      People probably complained.

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

I assumed Johnny Rockets was paying him under the table.

  • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

Ooh, Livan Hernandez versus Chipper Jones with the bases juiced? This should be fun.

    • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

Of course he lines into a 4-6 double play.

  • TC

    Joba straight dealing now

  • Evan

    Who is Dom Dimaggio.

    Too easy. Sit down, bitches.

  • Accent Shallow

Ump has a very wide zone. Not complaining, though.

  • Reggie C.

Joba isnt getting swing and misses??? WTF?!?

  • SouthernYankeeFan

I’m trying to study for an audit final but is too much fun to watch Joba pitch like this.

      Have you said that, yourself?

2 out walks. Will they ever learn?

  • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

Uh, Jose Molina, can you not call back-to-back changeups to lead off a fucking Varitek AB?

  • Accent Shallow

Sox players who should not be walked: Varitek, Ellsbury, Bailey, and whoever is playing SS at the moment (Nick Green in this case)

  • Evan

    Slider…strike 3.

  • Evan

I guess they need to lower the prices of those seats another 50%.

  • Accent Shallow

    The high, stinky cheddar!

  • Alex…*tries to think of better name*

He struck out someone on a fastball!

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Aunt Becca-Optimist Prime

So who the hell was filling in as Joba’s stunt double in the first?

    • Accent Shallow

      Phil Hughes. Bust.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

It was that dude who tried to get free bagels and cheap broads by pretending to be Joba.

      • TC

Heh. I saw that guy after a game at the stadium last year. I ran about 50 feet to take a picture of him before I realized it wasn’t Joba.

  • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

Why couldn’t you do this in the 1st, Joba. That makes me a sad panda.

    • Sad Panda

Thats what happens when Bay sticks his furry little willy in Joba’s ear.

    • Frank

Well hopefully this will catapult him into a nice little groove for the rest of the season.

  • JobaWockeeZ

Funny that all the Joba doubters and cliff jumpers about his velocity suddenly left.

    • manimal

      what was it.

      • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Aunt Becca-Optimist Prime

Most career HRs as a switch hitter

  • Drew
  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Benjamin Kabak

Jacoby Ellsbury out. Jonathan Van Every in. Odd.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Benjamin Kabak

Tight right hamstring. Perhaps playing baseball on cold, wet nights wasn’t what Alexander Cartwright had in mind.

  • manimal

What is up with most yankees fans hatrid for Johnny Damon? I love the guy. Bring him back for a year+option.

    • Drew

      WHo hates him!?

    • Accent Shallow

I like the guy a lot, but he’s getting up there in age, and he’s injury prone. I can think of worse things than bringing him back, but I would not be surprised to see a long DL stint or two, or for him to hampered all year by minor injuries.

      • Zack

He’s been on the DL once in his career, if you just give him days off he’ll stay effective hit .280 15hr and 25sb

  • dkidd

despite the endless double entendres, i think cone is a great announcer

  • Reggie C.

Okay. Melky’s attempted triple is now a baaaad mistake.

    • Alex…*tries to think of better name*

meh it’s excusable with one out.. especially with guys like Pena and Molina coming up who could get an RBI on an out.

      • Chris V.

yeh it was a smart baseball play for melky to go to third and the third base coach was waving him along. it took a perfect play by the sox and they made it.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Eh, you know what, it took a perfect set of relays to get Melky. I take it back, nice aggressive play.

  • Drew

Melky going to third makes sense considering the black hole was coming up.

    Well. Teix makes that play.

  • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

Wait, you guys are upset at Melky? That was a good play, the Red Sox needed two perfect throws to nail him and it just barely did.

    • Drew

People jump at the chance to hate on the Melkman.

    • JobaWockeeZ

      Melky hate is no surprise.

  • Frank

DON’T COMPLAIN TO THE EFFING UMP!!

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Aunt Becca-Optimist Prime

So there’s a question I want to ask but I’m afraid if I ask it I’ll jinx it. Bah.

Isn’t it about time Drew hit the DL?

    • Drew

      Nah son, I’m feeling good.

  • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

Molina seems like a chill dude. I read he was asked about A-Rod’s “pitch tipping” scandal. He was like, “man, if he did that’s weak”.

  • Frank

This crowd should be going nuts right now… instead they’re very apprehensive. I know it’s Molina at the plate, but still…

    • JobaWockeeZ

Yeah. I mean the Yankee fans in Boston are even louder than these. But I guess it’s because it’s a cold rainy day.

  • Reggie C.

    Be tough Molina.

  • Reggie C.

    Be tough Molina.

  • Alex…*tries to think of better name*

O my mo, Jon Sterling made a good point! Ellsbury may have hurt himself diving in on that Molina single last inning.

    • Frank

      You never know!

    • Reggie C.

It was only slightly more acrobatic than that slide into home last week.

    • bizarrojamie

on the replay earlier, it looked like his ankle kind of just bent out from under him and he fell instead of diving.
at least from what I saw.

  • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

Up at bat, Jonathan Van Every. Another gem of the Sox organization.

    • Drew

This dude can hit, and pitch. The RedSox know how to develop these guys.

      • Frank

He wasn’t even going to be called up because he was working on a cure for swine flu.

    • JobaWockeeZ

Actually I’m not surprised. With every idiot from like ESPN and SI saying he should be in the bullpen a lot of people will actually believe them.

    • Frank

The only fans I’ve seen that don’t want him to be a reliever are on this site. That’s why I hang here so much.

Seriously I know Joba’s reactions are going to be all that anyone in the MSM talk about tomorrow. But I don’t care. Fuck it. It’s about time. We’ve lost 5 in a row to Boston dating back to last season. He should be pumped up. He’s got me fucking PUMPED UP!!

  • Andrew

NESN crying about Joba’s celebration (but they loved Papelbon’s antics), and saying that “someone is going to get hurt” because he threw at Bay and has been showing the batters up. And you know what? I love it. What a G.

    • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

      +1.

I don’t like when a pitcher does it when his team is LOSING, but NESN has no room to talk with Papelbon.

The Bay HBP was not intentional either, 2 outs guy on 1st in 5th inning, approaching 100 pitches.

    • Frank

Fuck NESN and fuck Sullivan Tire. (You’ll see the commercial if you watch long enough).

  • SouthernYankeeFan

take em any way you can get em tex.

  • Alex…*tries to think of better name*

    wow Joba is LOCKED in.

  • dkidd

he’s hit the warning track 8 times. he’s owed a few of those

  • Gushue

Is anyone watching the game on NESN?

Dennis Eckersley is dissing Joba every chance he gets

    • Zack

      Big surprise

    • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

      I have NESN on mute.

    • dkidd

eck used to taunt people after he struck them out

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Aunt Becca-Optimist Prime

    Bah.

  • http://9thinning.blogspot.com VO

Alright come on Joba, go get em.

  • Accent Shallow

    Beckett is walking a tightrope.

  • C.Panella

Not good it looks like its about to pour for a while and this is now an offical game ughhhh

  • C.Panella

Not good it looks like its about to pour for a while and this is now an offical game ughhhh

    • C.Panella

      Sorry double click pwned me

  • Sad Panda

Jeez, we should knock Beckett around next inning. Were hitting lasers, just right at people. Well, except for Tex…

  • Drew

Fuck man, it’s about to start raining. I wish our offense did a little something that inning.

  • Andrew

    Please bring in Okajima.

    • JobaWockeeZ

      At least no Papelbon today.
AND WTF YES STOP PUTTING IT IN COMMERCIAL DURING THE GAME!

      • Drew

They aren’t doing it here, I have Comcast.

        • JobaWockeeZ

Yeah it’s just me for some reason.

    • Accent Shallow

In a similar vein, please don’t bring in Veras.

  • Drew

Quick! Pull him, hes at 100 pitches!

  • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

Joba is reaaaaaally getting that corner like Lester was last night.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Benjamin Kabak

He’s getting better than Lester was but only with lefties at bat.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Aunt Becca-Optimist Prime

    11!

And damn, it’s gonna start pouring in about ten minutes.

  • Sad Panda

11 strike outs looks good on paper, but some of these could just as easily be walks.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Benjamin Kabak

Seriously. Why do you have to be so down about things during the game? It’s not that fun or entertaining to see comments like this.

      • http://www.freewebs.com/ps3tf2/ Double-J

I’m guessing that’s why his name is Sad Panda? :P

      • Frank

I can name off 3 games right now where we got squeezed. It all evens out. Beckett’s getting the same strikezone.

      • Reggie C.

I think he’s referring to one in particular — the Pedroia call. That was borderline.

      • http://9thinning.blogspot.com VO

+1, I mean the guy just struck out 12 BE EXCITED! Don’t care if the ALMOST were walks they weren’t they were strikeouts all 12 of ’em/

      • Will

Anyone think the reason he was pulled was the rain? I dont think you want Joba, no matter how good he’s pitching, all amped up going for a 13th strikeout when its starting to rain. Maybe Girardi is playing it extra safe, but I’m still thrilled with what he did.

    • JobaWockeeZ

Yeah to the bullpen right! If he’s doing good as a starter its luck. As a relief pitcher, it’s pure skill.

    • A.D.

And i imagine if he hadn’t been getting those calls then he would have thrown to different locations.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Aunt Becca-Optimist Prime

    12! And 8 in a row.

  • Frank

    What a shame….

  • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

    One more, come on.

  • Drew

Thats fucking hilarious. Send Joba to the fucking Minors if he cant pitch here.

    • Drew

-overreaction, but damn, I’m kinda pissed about that.

    • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

If he gets roughed up and is hurting the team, damn right send him to Scranton to get him straightened out.

  • Stephen

    Throwing 95/96 now! hah

  • http://www.freewebs.com/ps3tf2/ Double-J

    Joba = win.

  • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

All in all, fucking great game by Joba. One bad inning.

  • http://9thinning.blogspot.com VO

Now that is just great, 12 strikouts in 5.2 innings, and he struggled mightily in the first. Just beautiful.

  • A.D.

    Damn 8 straight Ks

  • manimal

This makes zero sense to me. Just because hes young doesn’t mean you have to baby him in a very pivotal game. Let the best man pitch.

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Aunt Becca-Optimist Prime

I can see it. It’s raining and it’s not really going to let up. That + pitch count = why risk injury?

  • Rey22

My God, first inning aside, Joba was a freakin’ beast out there today.

  • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

I don’t care about the next 15 years; fuck you, Girardi.

    /irrationality

  • Yankee1010

12 strikeouts in 5 2/3. Yeah, put him in the bullpen.

If only he brought that stuff in the 1st. Oh well, he pitched pretty damn well after that.

  • Alex…*tries to think of better name*

Nolan Ryan would be so pissed about Joba coming out after 108 pitches.

    • A.D.

If Joba pitched for the Rangers he’d be throwing 150 pitches per outing.

  • Raf

ugh. i understand taking him out but i would’ve let him try to get the last out of the 6th.

  • Drew

    Jose Veras continues his sucktitude.

  • manimal

But guys, think about it! He would be SOOOOO much better in the bullpen!

    • JobaWockeeZ

Because it’s all luck as a starter! The bullpen is where its at!

  • JobaWockeeZ

Get ready to be un-pumped with Veras.

  • MattG

In my fantasy world of optimal bullpen usage, I go right to Rivera here. After Joba’s performance, that would give a huge lift to this team, and they’ll go on to win 10-4.

  • J

    i have a question…

marte and cano both supposedly came back from the wbc injured… cano has obviously fared well but why was marte misdiagnosed? if the doctors were competent enough to diagnose one player correctly, why misdiagnose another? Marte would’ve better served the Yankees on the DL with how his ERA looks after pitching hurt.

the yankees medical staff has been an ABSOLUTE mess for the past few years. remember all those hamstring injuries in 2007? Last year, it seemed everyone got hurt. Either the Yankees have the propensity to sign or draft fragile players or somethings wrong with their medical staff.

dr andrews must be one of the richest people in the world btw.

    joba is throwing fucking FIRE.

    • CT Yankee

      OLD Team

      • Chris

Nady, Wang, and Bruney aren’t old.

  • Yankee1010

Veras? Great idea. Why let anyone else get a chance? What must Robertson do to get a shot before Veras?

  • Frank

I agree with the move. His pitch count was way high. There’s no blaming Girardi there. Have Joba learn to come out with that intensity all game and learn to be more economical and we won’t have this problem.

    • Yankee1010

You can blame him for going to Veras. He got away with a hanger there.

As far as Joba being economical, I’d sign up for the stuff in innings 2-6 87 days a week. If he brings that type of stuff every time out, they’ll figure out how to win a whole bunch of games because Joba isn’t giving up many runs with that stuff.

    • Accent Shallow

The measure of an ace is innings pitched. If he can learn to be more economical with that stuff (and he’s got plenty of time to do so), well . . . who knows what he can do.

  • jonathan

Why are we going to the bullpen, let him stay out there until he looks like crap. Jeez here comes another loss

    • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

      Yep. There it is.

  • Bill N.

Gotta let him finish that inning

  • 27 this year

At least Girardi let him get to 108 pitches. Lifting him after that is not a bad move especially since it takes Joba a decent amount of pitches to finish a guy.

The wrong move was bringing in Veras

  • 27 this year

    sorry for the double post.

And oh my god, Veras didn’t walk six guys and start a Red Sox rally. It is the sign of the apolycalpse. Now, the Yanks are going to hit with RISP. GASP

  • Bill N.

The funny part about Joba’s start is that people will still want him in the pen. I think he has proven that he is mos def a starter

    • 27 this year

right now, aside from Pettite, he is our best starter.

    • A.D.

If he came in for only one inning tonight he would have looked aweful.

  • J

veras is still better than farnsworthless

  • kunaldo

that was amazing…hitting corners like it was nothing…the sox plan to take pitches against our young pitchers backfired…they struck out looking like 10 times

  • JobaWockeeZ

We need to at least tie this inning.

  • manimal

haha that bruins commercial was pretty good(on NESN)

    Shit. Rain, rain, go away.

  • J

i bet the yankees could play a while with how the field drains

  • Accent Shallow

You know, what happened after the first inning was some fanboy-type stuff.

“Joba’s gonna be ok, gonna get 12 of the next 14 outs via K.” Ridiculous.

    • A.D.

It was better than videogame numbers

  • Drew

Could really use a Swish blast here.

  • Will (the other one)

Damn…Gameday’s got both pitchers getting squeezed pretty badly at the bottom of the zone.

  • Alex S

    i thought swish k’ed

    • JobaWockeeZ

He probably though so too, that’s why he ran.

  • Drew

    C;mon Melky!!

  • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

Wow. I thought that was strike 3.

  • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

Dammit. Oh well. Sac fly can tie it.

  • Drew

    How ya like MElky now!!

  • Accent Shallow

    Melky!

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Aunt Becca-Optimist Prime

UGH WHY MUST THE WARNING TRACK BE SO BOUNCY!?!?

  • SouthernYankeeFan

    MELKY!!

  • Frank

    Baseball Gods… I don’t like them lately.

  • Reggie C.

please .. we gotta play through this inning! i’m hoping the umps dont stop this game…

  • JobaWockeeZ

Melky you suck! Why did you hit a GRD? You are the worst Yankee ever.

  • A.D.

    Damn going into the stands.

  • manimal

Who made that wall so short.

  • 27 this year

    Melky is on fire!!!

  • J

melky looks much more athletic and built this year. he was sorta fat last year… maybe melkman is for real?
