We’ve been coming to the same party thread for twelve years. And in no way is that depressing.

  • Drew

Well, Mariano has had about a week off, he should be good to go tomorrow.

  • V

Manny Ramirez intentionally walked in the first inning.

  • V

    Melancon :-(

I love that if the game is a great game, but it’s over 3 hours, even 3 hours and 1 minute, it’s “unmanageable” to him. Way to deal in absolutes.

I’ll get the world’s smallest violin for him, because calling Yankee games for a living isn’t going to make my heart go out to him.

      • V

I’d love it if he no longer called Yankees games.

Side note: I’m hungry. Someone make me chicken cutlets.

  • V

    Wow.

    Wow.

    Wow.

  • Reggie C.

You’ve got to release Albaladejo. Tonight preferably.

Get Robertson and Melancon into MORE games. THese guys are going to be really rusty, and this is the result.

    • V

      Release him? Really?

I don’t get it, Yankees’ fans really want to release everyone who sucks for a few weeks.

      • Reggie C.

There are simply too many righties in the ‘pen right now. Once Bruney gets back, Robertson likely gets shuttled back to AAA. Melancon is a better option than Alba. Regardless of what we’ve just witnessed.

He used him Friday, and Sunday was rained out. Maybe he should just throw a damn strike.

    • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

Oh please, Mike. this bullpen thing is just annoying. When you wrote the Marte article, Steve basically showed you how well Joe has distributed the workload and you conceded. Melancon didnt pitch in all of two straight games, one of which the long reliever pitched into the 9th.

      • daneptizl

But there is also the situations in which they’re put in. The suckiest of relievers get the pressure innings, while the unsuckiest get the mop-up innings.

    • KW

Maybe Yankee relievers can throw strikes and get outs?

    • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

And let Phil Coke pitch more than one inning.

  • Rey22

    Walk…walk….walk….wow.

        Mariano!!!!!

      • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

I think Robertson just because he has got no work done lately besides that Angels bs. You have to be able to trust all of your pen pitchers. Well, maybe have 1 mop-up guy. I’m a homer for D-Rob though.

  • Sal

And we don’t have pen issues??? All their ‘talent’ is terrible.

    • JobaWockeeZ

Why do the freaking pessimists come when we are about to lose and when we score they don’t say anything.

    • KTK

I’m with you. Our “bright spot” just walked the bases loaded, our set up guy is hurt, our other set up guy is hurt and when he isn’t he can’t get outs… and our best pitcher hasnt pitched in like 9 days

      • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

IT’S ONE INNING! He’s most likely not gonna walk the bases loaded that often. Calm down.

And Joba pitched tonight so no idea what you’re talking about. ;)

      • Sal

It’s not pessimism to state the obvious. Can we correct it early n quick before our season is ruined? Or do we sit on our hands n pray it’s alright?

  • NHYankee62

To make matters worse I’m forced to watch every Yankees-Sux game on NESN (which is still better than BSPN).

Even though I paid $200 for the extra innings package, those bastards black out the Yankees feed and force me to put up with the NESN garbage.

Those pieces of garbage were just laughing at us as Melancon walked off the mound. Very classy!!

    • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

I’ve had NESN on mute the last two nights.

    • KTK

I’d rather watch that than Kay. I wish I had that option

  • Mike

We need to fire Girardi and Eiland. Hire Willie Randolph and Leo Mazzone! Also, hire Lee Mazilli as a coach to spark some fire into this team.

    • V

Then after a losing streak, fire them and hire who?

    • Sean A

Willie is waiting for his phone to ring as we speak

    • daneptizl

Mazzilli already used all his spark on the Orioles when they started that (05?) season leading the division for a few weeks.

  • Sal

All the melancon people can take a timeout now thanks

    • JobaWockeeZ

How about no? You’re not God. It’s one inning, chill the fuck out.

      • KTK

You can say “it’s one inning” when dealing with a guy with a track record like Mariano. To a rookie who has 3 career innings, saying “it’s only inning” is lame.

        • JobaWockeeZ

Heh. You said it yourself. He only has 3 career ML innings. So it’s safe to assume he sucks based on a bad outing? You’re a major contradiction.

        • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

How is it lame? Oh yeah, I forgot, every pitcher that comes out of the minors should throw 27 perfect innings when he first comes up.

      • Frank

        He’s not God?

    • Yankee1010

Admittedly, he was not good last night. However, it would help if he pitched more than once a week.

      • Yankee1010

Obviously, I meant not good tonight.

        • Sal

Ohhh u still want him in the 8th. Wow. Get ur head out ur ass and get real.

          • Yankee1010

Sal, you have a serious reading comprehension problem. Reading can be your friend. Try it.

He pitched on Friday, two games ago.

        • Yankee1010

          Touche.

However, I would say that Melancon and Robertson haven’t been given enough work. And it’s not like Veras, Ramirez and Albaladejo are lighting the world on fire. I think the upside of Melancon and Robertson merits more work at the expense of Veras, Ramirez and Albaladejo.

  • KTK

I just can’t figure out why Girardi has designated times to use pitchers. If we’re losing it’s Veras and Edwar no matter what. If it’s a lefty and the starter is near the end, it’s Coke.

And because we haven’t gotten into the designated Robertson, Melancon role in a week, he doesn’t use them. They’re just there. Mo hasn’t pitched since February.

Yeah, because it’s Joe Girardi’s fault that the bullpen has sucked ass?

        • Accent Shallow

          Of course not.

        • daneptizl

But it is his fault when he keeps using the same relievers in the same spots.

          • Drew

Should we blow up the bullpen and create our own new pitchers? Eventually they have to get it done. Everyone’s had a “chance” at one point or another.

    • http://liberalmusings.wordpress.com Pablo Zevallos

Albaladejo in the 8th is indefensible.

      • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

Why, exactly? Who would you have pitched there?

      • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

How so? You have a guy with a running, 94-MPH fastball against the red-hot tandem of Jason bay and Mike Lowell.

        • http://liberalmusings.wordpress.com Pablo Zevallos

But he hasn’t been pitching well. Veras has better stuff, if you want to go by that argument. I would’ve gone Edwar-Veras or something, not Veras-Albie.

          • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

But look at what you are choosing between. Its definitely not indefensible. I would have done exactly what Joe did. It just hasnt worked.

          • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

You’re really going to use Albie’s lack of results as your argument for going to Edwar and Veras? Eh, that’s a bit unfair.

    • KTK

I can’t even remember the last time Mo pitched. I mean I know there’s been no 1 run lead in the 9th for him, but my god, give the guy ONE INNING.

      • Sal

It’s not girardis fault the pen has one reliable arm

  • Sean A

sham that there wil be 2 outs time we get to the top of the order

  • Jose

I don’t see how Girardi will have a job tommorow. If he can’t manage a bullpen, what can he do? He needs to go out and get that Grenke kid for the rotation and trade Veras for some national league closer.

    • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00mwbIM15ofMv/340x.jpg Mike Pop

I don’t see how you have a brain.
and lmao at all these trolls that come out after the game is blown.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

But … but … but if the closer is from the National League, how do we know he could handle the AL East?

I agree with you on Greinke. Kennedy, Melky, Edwar and Albaladejo should get it done. They could always throw in Igawa if need be.

      • http://liberalmusings.wordpress.com Pablo Zevallos

Kennedy, Melky, Edwar, and Albie. Way too much. You’re batshit insane.

      • http://9thinning.blogspot.com VO

Calmn down their thats 5 for 1, obviously were getting ripped off. Speak his language!

      • Jose

You don’t trust him with the 8th. You only use him in the 7th. Joba goes to the bullpen and Greinke becomes the 5th starter. Someone like Brad Lidge or maybe just sign free agent Joe Boroski.

        • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

Wait…are you being serious? No, right?

        • http://liberalmusings.wordpress.com Pablo Zevallos

Mhmm. After that we’ll get Pujols and sign Bonds from free agency. Then we’ll buy Tim Lincecum’s contract and we’re good.

          /lunacy.

          • http://9thinning.blogspot.com VO

You forgot Sizemore, Crawford, and the rest of the All-Star team.

    • JobaWockeeZ

Why do we need someone else in the rotation? It’s Greinke by the way, if you think you’re as smart as a GM I suggest you spell the name right. Veras also has no trade value, I don’t know anyone who would want him unless it’s some tam like the Nationals. Though I do not know what we can even get in return.

    • crapmaster general

because any NL team is chomping at the bit to swap veras for their closer? if girardi was a wizard, why wouldn’t he just wave his magic wand over the bullpen he currently has?

    • http://9thinning.blogspot.com VO

By the way, Girardi doesn’t do the trading. Also were trading Veras for a closer? Who is trading us their closer? Sure it’s definitely that simple just get the teams ace, no problem. Maybe if were lucky we can just swap Veras with the Royals Grienke, and Soria.

      • Drew

I’d be willing to throw in Miranda.

        • http://9thinning.blogspot.com VO

Slow down there buddy, we would have to get Jose’s approval first.

          • Jose

I dont want soria. Lidge didn’t blow a save last year. That is the type of stuff we need for the 7th. I wished I approve of these decisions but it lies with Joe Girardi.

            • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Ah but look, Lidge has already blown a save this year, Soria hasn’t.

See, that’s the kind of thought process that makes the Red Sox so much better.

              • http://9thinning.blogspot.com VO

Mike get out of here with your current statistics, Jose knows what hes doing.

              • Jose

Good points. The only flaw in your logic is that Lidge has been due for the last couple of years. Now he got it out of the way. He is less likely to blow more saves then Soria as the season continues. Plus soria has never seen the postseason. Lidge is a proven winner.

                • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Ah right, good point. I forgot about the proven winner factor. I guess I just like Soria because he’s younger and is more hungry to prove himself.

Hopefully. I think the Yanks can weather a two-three week period w/o Jorge but a month or more is dicey.

We can keep saying this. Is it really what we think though? This season has been so painful, whether it’s watching Teix or our pen, I think we need a kick in the ass. Hopefully A-rod will be that kick.

i can only hope, but there are many problems, you just have to find the good.

I guess Bret Gardner means the preverbial white flag ?

  • Rico Suave

  • Phrancis

    So,that ends the misery.

  • Alex…*tries to think of better name*

Fuck my life that was an excruciating game.

It seems like forever ago that Joba was blowing guys away in this game. I really hope his post-first-inning performance isn’t lost on everyone tonight.

      you’re right! good reminder

    • Nick

      almost forgot about the first

  • dkidd

i used to mock red sox fans for their masochism. why did i watch that?

  • Gary

Watching the Yanks play Boston now is like watching the Harlem Globetrotters play that team that they used to tour with…we are the Red Sox little whores now and there isn’t anything we can do about it. But I found it amusing the way Cone and Kay were sort of discounting Beckett’s abilities in the first inning. After Joba had viturally given the game away in the first inning, I found it especially funny that they’d be saying Beckett’s done poorly so far this year.

      Um, what?

      • Nick

i thought i had heard everything

  • Drew

Now, we have to face Bossman Junior. I hope we get it done tomorrow.
