  1. He’s got a nicer smile.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/attendance

Pop tell ur dad to put that in his Wesley Pipes and smoke it.

    • Mike Pop says:

      Gracias mi amigo.

      • Mike Pop says:

Heh, didn’t know it was that easy. I never go to ESPN.com though. Always afraid Kruk or Philips will pop up and scream Joba to the pen to me. a little box like a virus that you just can’t exit out of.

        • pat says:

Any of these other asshats asked me for that link they would have gotten the old ‘let me google that for you’ routine, but not you buddy.

    • Mike Axisa says:

      What about Billy Bong Thorton?

    • I loathe you for making me emerge as Pete Abe’s defender, but you’re being a tad unfair to Pete Abe, don’t you think? Do you think the recession is the only reason attendance in the most-expensive seats is sparse? If not, then what Pete Abe said isn’t so bad. Snarky, sure, but not inaccurate.

      • pat says:

Oh I’m sure some people were priced out of the mad expensive seats. But I do think the recession piece has alot to do with it. He also took his little photo at the exact time as first pitch.. what baseball stadium is packed to capacity by the first pitch?? I’m looking at the seats now and it looks like they’re pretty filled.

He has a small iota of a point that the seats are very expensive ,something the Yankees already admitted and took steps to rectify. I guess his snark and epic d-baggery really just rubs me the wrong way.

  3. Joey H says:

Lets go YANKEES! * CLAPP CLAPP CLAPP CLAPP*

  4. Drew says:

In regards to the Crawford talk, I’d think we have a better shot at Bay than CC. I have to think Tampa will pick up the option then trade him for some prospects.

  5. Accent Shallow says:

Watching Sonnanstine is absolutely painful. I hate his bland delivery, and his crap stuff.

  6. Jose says:

Pena =/= Arod is true, Pena is probably more clutch then Arod.

  7. dkidd says:

every time melky makes an out, i think “is this when he starts to suck again?”

  8. UWS says:

I’m only following on Gameday, but it appears that there are two strike zones: one for Burnett and one for Sonnanstine. True?

  9. V says:

Wow, Pena rocketed a foul ball. I’d love to see him get an HR this year.

  10. “batiando ambidextro” = switch hitter in Spanish.

    I’m getting good at this.

    The Yankees, meanwhile, are not.

  11. Accent Shallow says:

And Ramiro helps Sonnanstine out by grounding out on a neck-level pitch.

He’s a bum, make him work please.

  12. Steve in MN says:

even though he just got an out, Pena seems to be handling himself up here. 6 pitch at-bat ain’t too shabby. think he stays on as utility guy?

  13. Mike Pop says:

Call me old fashioned but I hate when guys dive when they don’t need too. But, ya gotta try to get the gold glove I guess.

  14. BJ says:

man crawford’s good, the kay stamp of approval is kinda killing it for me tho

  15. Mike Pop says:

    Hmm… Doug Waechter?

  16. “parte alta” = top of the inning.

  17. Accent Shallow says:

Mr. Bartlett, you’re not much of a hitter. Let AJ Burnett remind you of that fact.

  18. Matt-Pitt says:

Aj’s got some nasty stuff man. I wish he used his changeup more though. Not like its a below-average pitch he has.

    Nice play, Teix.

  19. Drew says:

Good thing this guy can play D!

  20. Difference between Giambi and Teixeira:

Teixeira ain’t a stone pillar at first.

  21. pc69 says:

Ok, just checking in from mowing the lawn. How does Burnett look? His strike out of Pena sounded like a nasty pitch but hard to tell from the dynamic duo on the radio

    • Mike Pop says:

Ya man. Stuff has been filthy. No doubt, fb has looked unhittable. The breaking ball has had nasty movement. But you’re getting this from a Burnett lover.

  22. dkidd says:

what happens if the staff era is 1.26 the next three weeks and no one wants to pitch to jorge when he comes back?

    • Drew says:

They find a new place to pitch.

    • pc69 says:

That would be interesting. I still think Posada needs to DH more than he has been catching.

    • Tony says:

Molina is not a starting-caliber catcher. Cut this garbage out.

    • Joey H says:

I was going to say this but I didn’t want to get into the whole Jorge’s game calling argument. But I think with Molina behind the plate, the pitchers will improve and some make take it as a coincidence. And with the addition of A-Rod’s bat hopefully Friday or immediately thereafter, the offensive production should be much better considering Alex is Alex and he’ll be protecting Tex so he should turn it around. So I think it’s all good. If they don’t like pitching to Jorgey, then it’s too bad.

  23. Reggie C. says:

    Navarro is one tough bastard.

  24. Joey H says:

Why doesn’t CC use his change more often? He makes hitters look absolutely stupid from what I saw when I was at Saturday’s game. I’m not saying should be just like Johan but the guy’s change is awfully impressive.

  25. Matt-Pitt says:

Ahh man… Not what you wanna do with a 0-2 count and the guy just fouled off like 7 pitches. Bounce back, AJ.

  26. Accent Shallow says:

I guess that’s one way to deal with a hitter who keeps fouling off pitches.

  27. Drew says:

    80 pitches.. Damnit Ramiro

  28. V says:

    Burnett can throw 120 pitches.

  29. Matt-Pitt says:

Thats some serious heat. Really need a quick inning from AJ in the 5th. High pitch count early on.

  30. Mike Pop says:

This is why I <3 you A.J. Now, let’s get this guy some runs please.

  31. Aysh, terrible news about Remy

    http://baseballmusings.com/?p=33519

I know he’s the Sox guy, but baseball’s still baseball. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone.

    • gayle says:

True that best wishes maybe the tobacco chewers on the sox will tak note as well

    • soriano says:

I lived in Boston for a long time and nobody hates the bosox more than I. But Remy is a class act who was always fir to the Yankees or any other opposing team. Wish him the very best.

      • Bob Stone says:

I lived in Boston for 19 years. As A Yankee fan since 1955, I had a lot of fun with being in enemy territory, including going to Fenway in full Yankee regalia (especially in the 1996-2000 time frame). I agree with all that you say about Remy and would add that I think he is one of the best announcers in the game. The Remy/Orsillo team on NESN is better than the Yanks broadcasters (and I like their team especially Coney and Singleton). I wish Jerry a speedy recovery.

    • Yeah it’s always nice to remember that our rivals are real people and not just cartoon characters. Best wishes to Remy and his family. I was actually on NESN a few years back and only met Remy for a moment, but he was very gracious with his time.

    • The Artist says:

Very sad, Lung Cancer is one of the toughest to cure.

  32. Matt ACTY says:

EIGHTY PITCHES THROUGH 4?! How did it get that high?

  33. Mike Axisa says:

Nice job taking the ball away from the kid, asshole.

  34. Heh, the Spanish guys were going through whose on the DL and said Cervelli instead of Posada before catching themselves.

Meanwhile, CAN WE GET SOMEONE ON BASE?! Please? This ain’t Johan Santana here.

  35. Mike Axisa says:

Now that is some serious range to the left. Jeter wouldn’t haven’t gotten to that ball with a three second head start.

  36. dkidd says:

shortstops are allowed to go to their left?

  37. Matt ACTY says:

Watch gameday is so unsatisfying after watching two games on real TV. Sigh.

  38. KP says:

Is it just me or does it seem like over the last three games the Yankees haven’t been able to get a call?

  39. Corey says:

    “Not Equals” == “!=”

  40. Reggie C. says:

    Sonnastine is in control.

    • soriano says:

Sonnastine beats nobody like he beats the Yankees. I know this is true with all dogsh*t pitchers. They always shine vs. Yankees. But this guy always seems to do so. At least we are not leaving too many RISP.

  41. pat says:

Is it just me or are these foul ball kids terrible with the glove? Maybe I’m just used to Skippy, the Ozzie Smith of foul ball kids. Skippy would backhand scorchers without getting up from his stool. These kids look like Jason Giambi with a blindfold.

  42. Believe it or not, right now our offense is still having a better night than the Mets.

  43. Matt-Pitt says:

There you go, Teix. Come on Mats.

  44. GG says:

when your team can’t knock around andy sonnanstine on the road there is a problem

    • dkidd says:

when your team is getting no-hit by chan ho park at home, there’s a bigger one

  45. Corey Nord-Podberesky says:

    Is Sonnanstine jewish??

  46. Jose says:

Finally a shift against the Yankees hurts the other team. Although we should have hitters who dont even have it used on them.

  47. Eirias says:

This guy is serving up high 80s fastballs, how are we not crushing him?

  48. Matt-Pitt says:

    Nice piece of hitting, Mats.

Big spot to break out of it, Robby. Lets do it kid.

  49. The Artist says:

    Go go GODZILLA!

  50. Nice hit Hideki!

Now would be a really, really, really good time for Robbie to bust out of his slump.

  51. Reggie C. says:

Stick a needle in him. Mats is alive!

  52. Mike Axisa says:

Crawford played that wall like a champ.

  53. vin says:

Hmmm… which Robi will show up?

  54. Drew says:

Damnit Cano wtf is going on.

  55. Reggie C. says:

Cano fails yet again with RISP.

  56. Matt-Pitt says:

Damnit… Should’ve at least taken a strike there. Work the count a little Robby and wait for a pitch you can drive.

  57. Matt ACTY says:

I am still so unconvinced by Robbie’s new found “plate discipline.”

    • Drew says:

Well, it’s easy to say that when he’s 0 for his last 14.

      • Jake K says:

It’s easy to say when he has 1 walk in his last 14 games.

        • Drew says:

Yeah I believe you already pointed that out in the last thread. When you get a hit every other time up you don’t exactly want to or have to walk.

          • He’s 0 for his last 14, so, no, he doesn’t get a hit every other time up.

Do you think Robinson Cano has no reason to improve his plate discipline?

            • Drew says:

I pointed out that he is 0 for his last 14. My point was that a week ago when he was up near .380, his walks weren’t an issue. Now that he’s 0-14 it is. Robbie has looked much better with plate discipline excluding the last 3 games plus today. When a guy is hitting .370+ how much do you want him to walk?

              • Jake K says:

Which is fine, if you can sustain that .370+ BA. Pretty much no one, Robbie included, can.

                • Drew says:

Yeah I know, but when you only make an out 60% of the time how much room is there to really walk. Once he breaks out of this funk, we’ll see what he’s really got as far as plate discipline goes. My opinion is that the 1 in last 12 was a result of extremely hot hitting, excluding the past 3.

              • “I pointed out that he is 0 for his last 14.”

Just because you pointed it out doesn’t mean it can’t be used as part of an argument against you.

“When a guy is hitting .370+ how much do you want him to walk?”

Yeah, but Drew… Do you expect Cano to consistently hit in the .370 range for the rest his career, or even just for the rest of this season? Obviously the answer is no, since that’s completely unrealistic. Improved plate discipline would be wonderful for Cano.

                • Drew says:

True, I explained my reasoning right here: http://riveraveblues.com/2009/.....ent-369538
                  I know Robbie won’t hit 370..

                • Ok. I think you defend Cano by alleging that his detractors only harp on his slumps, but I think maybe you should be careful not to do the same thing on the other side (over-emphasize his streaks). Look, I love Cano and I love his insane streaks. I just think he’d be a more well-rounded offensive threat, and a more consistent offensive threat, if he improved his plate discipline. Until he does that, I don’t think he’ll avoid the streaks and slumps that we’ve seen so far in his career.

                • Drew says:

Definitely, I’m overprotective of Robbie And Melky, sometimes to a fault. I know he needs to improve his discipline and I thought he was on his way with his start this year. Let’s just wait it out and hope for the best.

    • I’m with you. Such a polarizing figure, young Robinson.

  58. Jake H says:

    They are awesome with RISP!

  59. donttradecano says:

remember when yankee starters didnt strike people out?

  60. Reggie C. says:

    Bird-nett??

    what’s with the pigeons?

  61. dkidd says:

david cone wants to “send kim jones down”

    i’m 12

  62. Damn, the Brewers are up 9-0 on the Reds in the second.

  63. Matt-Pitt says:

Very nice 1-2-3 for AJ. Needed that. Come on offense, pick your starter up.

  64. Drew says:

    Nice! We needed that

  65. Matt ACTY says:

AJ got a little help on that second pitch.

  66. dkidd says:

will any of these teams make the playoffs?

    cardinals
    brewers
    royals

  67. donttradecano says:

for some reason i like that biz markie commercial

  68. Voice Of Reason says:

add the Yanks to that list.

  69. Matt ACTY says:

    Swisher swung 3-0…? WTF?

  70. Matt-Pitt says:

    Just missed it, Swish.

  71. The Artist says:

Damn, I wish this stadium was still Coors Field East.

  72. Matt-Pitt says:

    Nice idea, horrible execution.

  73. Reggie C. says:

Melky swinging at the dirt and actually made contact. Too bad. Sonnastine is cruising.

  74. UWS says:

Remember when Yankees used to score lots of runs?

    Me neither.

  75. Matt-Pitt says:

Man… Our offense can’t do ANYTHING right now. Lets hope 3rd time through wakes them up.

  76. If there’s anything more disheartening right now than the bottom of the line up, please, please let me know.

  77. Jake H says:

I just want some effort out there.

  78. Andrew says:

Suzyn Waldman thinks ARod will be relieved late in games for Ramiro Pena due for defensive reasons. Terrible.

  79. Voice Of Reason says:

Right now the Yanks have to have the weakest bottom of the lineup in all of baseball. Damn I can’t wait to see ARod back.

  80. Coach6423 says:

is it safer here than Lo_hud??

  81. Drew says:

Haha, you see that Jeter doll? At least someone is sitting in the expensive seats.

  82. Mister Delaware says:

Anyone else miss those unclutch 3 run HRs in the early innings?

  83. Corey Nord-Podberesky says:

why must we hit like doody with RISP

  84. Matt-Pitt says:

AJ should’ve got that 2-2 slider call.

    DP ball, lets go.

  85. Jake K says:

Over the last two games the Yankee starters have 4 BB and 20 Ks. We lost one game and are losing the second. That’s all kinds of crazy.

  86. Mike Pop says:

Man, Molina gets beat up every game.

  87. guy says:

just one question…. if righties are hitting .423 against sonny; how come all our switch hitters are batting lefty??

  88. Andrew says:

So…to protect against second guessing… this will likely be AJ’s last inning, who do you go to in the 7th? Anyone but Coke comes running out of the bullpen and I’ll be pissed. I don’t even care about matchups.

  89. Matt-Pitt says:

Man… lot of LoHudders here today. Some crazy shit must’ve gone down over there.

    • V says:

      It’s just become insufferable.

I’m V/’Someone Else’ at LoHud, and Pete’s losing me with the ARod bashing/Girardi bashing.

      • V says:

And yeah, I was pimping RAB at Lohud earlier ;-)

      • kunaldo says:

yeah, that drove me away a while ago

      • Mike Axisa says:

The constant reminders that the seats behind home plate are empty is wearing thin. We got the point the first 25 times, no need to have three updates per game thread (with pictures!) about it. Especially when it’s just after first pitch, give people a chance to settle in.

        • V says:

The only game I went to was the Tuesday night As game, Terrace Suite behind the plate, and people were coming and going all game long, doing circuits around the stadium, going down to the Main level and watching the game from the concourse, etc.

          The stadium’s -too- good.

I don’t think the Yankees are lying about their attendance figures. People are just not sitting in their seats.

        • The Artist says:

In case anyone has noticed, there are empty seats everywhere. People in the upper decks hang out in the standing room behind the two lower deck seats, people hang out in the bars in CF and the people in the high priced seats hang out in the Yankee Steakhouse.

  90. Reggie C. says:

    C’mon AJ. CHALLENGE THESE HITTERS!

  91. Matt-Pitt says:

DP ball even more now… C’mon AJ.

  92. AJ looks like he’s tiring. It might not be 1-0 much longer.

  93. Mike Pop says:

Damnit. A.j needs to grind this shit out.

  94. Drew says:

Ahh, the lost art of the Sac-fly.

  95. Reggie C. says:

How come the Yanks can’t put together a sequence like we just saw??

    1 run!!

    FUCK!

  96. ShawnT says:

wow does almost every pitcher have to look like a number 1 ace against the yanks
this year we only get to the bullpen

  97. Tom Zig says:

If only we can find a way to get Sonnanstine out of the game, we can take this game.

  98. Nady Nation says:

It sucks not having a lead over a 3 game span.

  99. donttradecano says:

    sigh.

  100. Matt-Pitt says:

Navarro would get a bsehit with a RISP when he has hit below .100 in that situation all season long.

That breaking ball that just got called to Upton should’ve been called to Burrell too.

Our offense better wake up this bottom half man. Least put something on the board.

  101. Doreen Gallotti says:

3 runs is not a lot of runs to give up, but it seems like it might as well be 30. What are the chances he comes out for the 7th if he gets this guy out?

    • kunaldo says:

extremely low i’d think…i don’t see girardi having AJ go 120+ in a losing effort….this is too frustrating man…there’s a lot of games still to be played, but damn.

  102. Mike Pop says:

Heh, can we go back to the offseason?

  103. Jose says:

The only positive thing I can take from this game so far is the YES broadcast team is as good as always.

  104. pat says:

Bossman has such an awesome swing, such a thing of beauty.

  105. V says:

    Ugh – and Sonnanstine’s at 61 pitches through 5…

  106. Reggie C. says:

HAVE NO FEAR! jose molina is leading off !

  107. Drew says:

Please get some runs!! I’m tired of not getting our starters wins. No decisions don’t look as good on paper!

  108. Matt-Pitt says:

Molina, are you fucking kidding? Unreal man…

  109. soriano says:

Better hurry and score. About to rain– and hard. But if you believe they will, I know this bridge in Brooklyn…..

  110. Reggie C. says:

you gotta admire this clinic Sonnastine is putting on. Yank batters look like puppets.

  111. Tom Zig says:

Sometimes I wonder if the Yankees actually have scouts watching the other teams.

  112. dkidd says:

    great throw!

  113. Mike Pop says:

    Wow, good throw.

  114. Mike Axisa says:

    Wow, outstanding throw by Gross.

  115. Ivan says:

Well at least we got 3 innings left to come back.

  116. Mike Axisa says:

It’s kinda cool that the guys who backed up the Mannings in college are both big leaguers.

  117. If it never rained another day in my life I could live with it.

Okay, maybe if it rained enough to keep the resovoirs filled. But really, that’s it.

    This rain is fucking depressing.

  118. Reggie C. says:

Teixeira is fucking worthless with RISP.

  119. Mike Pop says:

Teix, you are so much better than that.

  120. A.D. says:

its getting pretty redic w RISP

  121. Accent Shallow says:

    Cy Sonnanstine.
