my bad, I just went to Six Flags yesterday, rode like every freakin coaster and my head is still spinning.

  • A.D.

    84 pitches for CC

  • Iowa Yank

    84?

  • Drew

Another good AB by the Melkman.

  • JobaWockeeZ

Great pitching and good hitting. Exactly what we need to get off the slump and get off to a long winning streak.

  • pc69

Just as losing is contagious so is winning. Looking at the bench just now they look to be a little more relaxed. Maybe this is the turn things around time. I freakin hope so.

  • Jose

    Drew,
Can you really argue that Manny Ramirez will be more valuable this year than Jason Bay?

    • Drew

      Yes.

      • Jose

He can play in a maximum of 91 games this year, while Bay can play in a maximum of 162 games. Yet, Manny even with his fielding will add more wins to his team than Bay?

        • Drew

He got traded to the Dodgers in August last year. How valuable was he? He’ll be back in July, they already have the best record in baseball partly because of him. The NL west is ridiculous. Manny mashing now is much less valuable than what he can do in the postseason and the last few months.

        • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

          Yeah, he really might.

          Bay = good hitter
          Manny = beast

        • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

Well, to play Devil’s Advocate…Bay’s defense is pretty horrible, too, and he’ll probably come back down to earth. I’d expect Manny’s much more likely to keep up his performance than Bay. Also, the fewer games on defense Manny plays, the less it hurts his team, right?

          /stupid argument?

      • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

        Yes.

Jason Bay is currently OPSing 1.129.

        His career OPS is .899.

Even with a Fenway Park boost, that’s unsustainable. He’s going to come back to earth.

Manny will be back in July and will probably immediately resume OPSing 1.133, which is only mere inches above his career average.

        • Jose

The problem I have with that is OPS is a rate stat. It doesn’t determine what is actually added to the team. I guess I have to do an analysis to prove my point. I just don’t believe Bay can’t add more value to his team than Manny in those additional 71 games.

          • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

            Additional 71 games?

Manny got suspended for 50 games. Where do you get the “additional 71 games” from?

And yeah, normally, one player playing 162 games is always better than a different player playing only 112 games. But,

112 games of Manny >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 162 games of pretty much anyone else, including Jason Bay

            • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

Think of it this way. Would you rather have:

162 games of Aubrey Huff or
              112 games of Albert Pujols?

            • Jose

I meant to say 57 games difference. I based this Manny playing in 27 out of 29 possible games so far. So an equal amount of rest when he comes back. Bay I projected to 162 games.

          • Jose

Here is what I have so far:
            Bay 2009 Projected wRAA: 35.1
            Manny 2009 Projected wRAA: 35.5

It seems like 71 days gone would hurt Manny’s projections.

            Bay so far wRAA: 13.3
            Manny so far wRAA: 13.3

            They are nearly identical!

            • Drew

              71?

              • Jose

I mean 57, sorry on the miscalculation.

            • V

Manny Ramirez is going to take the Jason Bay costume off at some point, and he’ll regress.

            • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

WHERE THE HELL DOES THIS 71 DAYS COME FROM?!?!?!?!

              • Jose

                Miscalculation, sorry.

                • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

Jose, the part you left out of your “calculations” is how Jason Bay has NEVER EVER been as good as he’s been this one single month.

                  It’s unsustainable.

                • Jose

                  You’ll see, you’ll see…

Verlander added more to his team’s win than Sabathia did.

              Oooh okay!

          • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

No, the WPA is saying that Verlander was more important to this win because of the small margin of error he had compared to Sabathia’s game, I believe.

          • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

You’re thinking team WPA, not individual, I believe.

      Justin Verlander’s last three outings: 23 IP; 11 H; 1 R; 1 ER; 5 BB; 31 K.

      Domination. Fughedaboutit.

      • Kelvz

..and when he pitched against us, people were like “Noes!!1! he only pitches well against us!!!!1!”.

        Well, Verlander IS good.

  • Dan12

i traded joba for verlander straight up 3 starts ago…. its been pretty even but verlander is taking it with the wins

    • V

I had Verlander+CC on one of my teams today, and Cliff Lee on another.

  • Steve H

Sox have scored 17 runs the last two nights in the 6th.

    Joba to teh sixth!!&!@@#!!

  • stuart

huge performance for CC. He is still CC. SHould expect about 3 or 4 of those this year…

    huge game……

    • V

Just 3 or 4? Do you mean CG shutouts, or dominant 8-9 inning, 0-2 ER outings?

Cause I’m expecting 15+ of the latter ;-)

      • V

He had 21 outings last year that were 7+ IP and 0-2 ER.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Aunt Becca-Optimist Prime

    HOLY FUCK

    did you see Granderson’s catch?

    • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

      Wow, A-MAY-ZING.

      • V

I have Sizemore on two teams :-(

        • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

          Pwnd.

    • V

Hmm, just checking out his career numbers.

Would Granderson be a good comp for Austin Jackson’s upside? Odds of Jackson hitting that comp?

      • Drew

        Is Ajax that fast?

        • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Aunt Becca-Optimist Prime

No idea but if he puts up Granderson numbers, I can live with that.

        • V

Minor league SB/CS look comparable. No idea about defense.

      • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

I don’t think A-Jax has nearly that power, but I think he can steal more bases. If all goes right for Austin Jackson, I see him as this type of player (yes, this exact):

.280/.350/.420/.770, 15-20 HR, 80-85 RBI, 25-30 SB (80% rate), with above average defense.

        • V

          I could live with that.

Btw – Granderson’s never hit more than 23 HR in a season. He’s on a ~45 HR pace this year, though, heh.

          • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

He has a .495 career SLG, though. That probably comes from averaging 15 triples per 162 games.

Also, I wouldn’t just “live with that” if that’s what Jackson became. That’d be a damn good CF. He could develop more power, but if he hits to that line and plays good defense, I’ll be ecstatic.

  • Drew

Watching MLB network. Now everytime we see the Alex HR highlight on the feed by YES we have to hear, “..performance enhancing drugs while with Tex- ohh thats hit deep.” Great Kay. Good job on that one.
    I really dislike him.

  • Mike Pop
    • Drew

Guess he doesn’t know the meaning of being humble.
Also, they “didn’t have that stuff,” is he joking? If steroids were used by Olympians in the 50s, and have been caught using in every decade since then, what the hell makes anyone believe that they “didn’t have that stuff.”
Another reason I hate Red Sox I suppose.

    • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt ACTY

That’s funny, ’cause Jim Rice isn’t a true HOFer.
