      awww… cute.

        +1

  • Drew

Time to see what Tomko’s got.

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

      Fitting.

      • JobaWockeeZ

        Very fitting.

    • Drew

LOL! not what I was looking for.

  • Rich I.

Did we seriously wait until the eighth inning down by seven runs to bring in one of our long relievers?

    • Drew

He hasn’t been a long man this season.

      • Rich I.

No, but it was said that he could throw up to 45 pitches.

        • Drew

Yupp, but we already have a long man.

          • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

I think Brett Tomko can be a longman. I don’t think we have any intention to use him as a longman. We intend to pitch him in situations like any other reliever, I’d surmise.

  • Accent Shallow

Do the Yankees employ anyone who can get Adam Jones out?

    (Other than Mr. Sabathia, clearly)

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

Meh, most big league teams only have one or two pitchers who can get Adam Jones out.

I don’t call him Eric Davis II for nothing.

  • http://9thinning.blogspot.com VO

Dare I say Brett Brett Bombko? No I’m just playing.

  • V

Everyone whining about why Tomko wasn’t up yet…

Here you are. He sucks. As over a decade of ML experience will tell you.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Benjamin Kabak

I’m trying to resist saying “I told you so.”

    • Drew

Hey, not arguing, but 3 pitches don’t tell us what he’s got this year.

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Benjamin Kabak

No. His 12-year, crappy MLB career does though.

        • Drew

Yeah I know.. Just looking for answers in our sea of arms out in the pen..

      • Drew

        **13 pitches lol..

    • Nady Nation

If anything, that is the reason why people were “whining” that he should’ve been put in earlier. What better situation for Tomko to come in than a blowout to eat some innings?

      • Nady Nation

My bad. I thought you meant “up” as in up in the bullpen, not up in the big leagues. Apologies.

  • Nick L

i know there are phil hughes hatters out there right now, but i say to u this. greinke is 26, Lincecum is going to be 25 in a month. there is still time to be great. he is still 22.

    • JobaWockeeZ

And Greinke wasn’t that good last year. Give Hughes time.

      • Nick L

not everyone can be king felix

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Greinke was pretty damn good last year.

However the Royals let him take his lumps when he was 21/22. He went 5-17 with an ERA near 6. Hughes will never get that chance with this team.

        • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

Please repeat this paragraph over and over again until these idiot Yankee fans with zero patience remember it.

    • David Coonce

Hughes has a guy just to make his hats? I tell you, players are really spoiled these days.

  • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Don’t know if this makes anyone feel better about Hughes, but David Price (who’s a year older than Hughes) has pitched to this line so far

    1-4
    4.74 ERA
    24.2 IP
    24 H
    16 BB
    4 HR

    http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?n=David%20Price&pos=P&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=456034

    • Nick L

i for one feel alot better. seriously

      • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Maybe when Hughes is 23 HE can walk 16 guys in 24 innings, too. Something to look forward to.

    • Drew

This does not make me feel any better.

      • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Then you must be a Vulcan.

      • Nick L

this just shows that everyone young pitcher struggles, but who cares about price, there totally different pitchers, you need to look at pitchers like Greinke, lincecum, verlander. it takes time.

    • Accent Shallow

Doesn’t make me feel better about Hughes, but it’s good to see someone who was supposed to be a big piece for the Rays struggle.

      • Nick L

its good because it shows how it is a universal thing for young pitchers to struggle, but it doesnt make phil’s start feel good.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Aunt Becca-Optimist Prime

    This game = OAKTAG

  • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

    6 homers today. Bandbox!!!!

  • Tom Zig

according to game day, jamie walker is pitching for the yankees.

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

Heh, ESPN threw up a graphic of Michael Jordan talking about Chuck Daly during their coverage of his passing today.

The chyron said that Jordan was the “President of Basketball Operations”… for the Detroit Pistons.

  • Accent Shallow

Brett Tomko throws 94? Who knew?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

      I knew.

      /pats self on back

      • Accent Shallow

Just with that profile (old guy, marginal major leaguer), I figured he wouldn’t throw quite that hard.

        • http://www.riveraveblues.com Benjamin Kabak

Throwing hard definitely doesn’t equate with success. Ask Kyle Farnsworth.

  • http://www.livevideo.com/RBIRadio Joey H

I don’t know what this team needs. After how great yesterday was you think they can only go up from there. Meh.

    • A.D.

Consistent starting pitching, almost always the name of the game.

      • thurdonpaul

i couldnt agree more, but it does get hard to stay optimistic

  • Drew

Watch us plate 6 this inning..

    • JobaWockeeZ

Then the winning HR would die out to the warning track.

      • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

That would be historic. Not many HR die at the warning track.

        • JobaWockeeZ

LOL. I meant a flyball that would be the winning HR. But seeing the Yankees luck it very well could happen the winning home run dies on the warning track.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Aunt Becca-Optimist Prime

What’s bothering me here is that Phil’s gotten worse each start…when he should be getting better…

I know it’s only three starts but I don’t want to see this trend continue

    • Nick L

lets hope it wont, i dont think it will

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

      3 games isn’t a “trend”.

      It’s a microtrend, at best.

      • Nick L

yea, you cant be great every start, i mean joba isnt dominating every start. no difference

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Aunt Becca-Optimist Prime

      Meh that came out wrong.

      • thurdonpaul

i have whats probably a silly question, but, what does meh & heh mean ?
        thanks

        • http://www.riveraveblues.com Joseph Pawlikowski

Heh is a short laugh, usually out of courtesy because someone was trying to be funny.

          Meh: http://www.good.is/post/doh-meh-makes-its-mark/

          • thurdonpaul

thank you, thank you, and btw, you have a great blog here

    • A.D.

Well you can’t get that much better than his first start, so one would expect some regression. What I didn’t like was inability to finish off hitters today, because that is Hughes ’08.

      • Nick L

yea he needs to work on that, hes got 6 days till his next start because of the off day monday. lets see what happens, and see what he says on the post game show.

  • Accent Shallow

At least that Cano out wasn’t a soft ground ball to the right side.

  • Drew

Have no fear, Grit is here.

  • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Don’t know if anyone saw any of the Trekkies coming out of the premieres around town, but I did. Came away with two impressions:

1-There’s nothing dorkier than seeing a grown man wearing a Spock outfit, complete with pointy ears.

2-There’s nothing sexier than seeing a nice looking girl in a Star Trek outfit. Double that if she’s Asian.

    Go figure.

  • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Aaaaaaaand all the good feelings we had after yesterdays game are gone.

    • Nick L

      until we win again

    • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

I dont know about that. We lost a game in which our fifth starter got rocked. Tex homered, Damon stayed hot, Albie looked solid. I’m upset, but I still think with CC being CC, A-Rod coming back, and hopefully Tex starting to hit, this team could go on a major run.

      • Nick L

whos not upset, theres nothing worse than seeing phil not pitch well, but there were definitely some pluses in that horrid game.

      • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

        I am worried about Cano.

        • Nick L

Cano will probably be fine. kay says hughes will probably have 3 more starts, i think he will show what he showed against Detroit.

        • A.D.

Eh, no way he’s going to hit .370+ its a correction that should have been expected & he has always been a streaky hitter.

          • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

Yeah, but he doesn’t look good at the plate.

            • Capital T

And he hasn’t taken a walk since week one. Ok, 1 walk

              • http://www.riveraveblues.com Joseph Pawlikowski

Or 3, whatever. No need to be accurate.

      • Scooter

If Wang can return to being a reasonable facsimile of Wang, that’s a pretty solid starting 5

Hughes’ curve was much better vs Detroit – hopefully it’s a mechanical adjustment – but Wang could be back in 2 starts

I agree with you – the team is positioned to make a solid run. If the Yankees win tomorrow, they win the series. That’s a start.

  • A.D.

Well hopefully the Yankees don’t make Uehara look like Cy Young again.

  • Drew

Romine and Jesus both with 2 doubles. Niiice. ManBan 1 hit in 5 with 8 k’s. :)

  • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

    Joba popped a blood vessel?

    • skeleton coat

      He did?

The universe hates the fucking Yankees.

  • Nick L

WOW, joba popped a blood vessile in his thumb, may not start tomorrow, thats why there was no aceves tonight, WOW

    • A.D.

      makes sense

  • Stryker

wooooooooow some shitty news on the post game. joba pops a blood vessel in his thumb today – which is why aceves wasn’t in the game.

  • Nick L

michael kays face was priceless when he heard that bout joba.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Aunt Becca-Optimist Prime

    MOTHERFUCKER Joba.

On the otherhand, we now know why Aceves didn’t pitch.

  • Drew

PeteAbe: “If Girardi has sent a pitcher out there instead of Edwar, it might be 7-4. Instead it’s 11-4.” No shit. And if I’m lucky tomorrow I “might” win the lotto.

  • A.D.

WTF is a deal with a broken blood vessel

  • Bob Stone

    What else can go wrong?

  • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

there really is nothing else you can say. that basically sums it up

    • thurdonpaul

wow , when you see it in print its really eye opening

  • Nick L

love how girardi is sticken up for hughes, as he should
