    Jamal, Jamie Moyer?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

      Warren Spahn maybe?

      • Andy In Sunny Daytona

It will be Melvin Croussett, who will win 14 games at the age of 53.

    • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

Moyer has 85, I think. It’s not him, he was included in the question.

  • whozat

I’m actually more excited that they finally beat up on a pitcher upon whom they’re supposed to beat up than I would be if they’d eked out a three spot against Halladay yesterday.

  • Mike HC

There is still a long game ahead of us. Lets not count our chickens before they hatch, but it sure felt good to finally break through a little bit.

    • Tom Zig

      agreed.

  • Ivan

I got a question, which is most likely to happen?

A batter hitting 4 Home Runs or a pitcher throwing a Perfect game?

    • Andy In Sunny Daytona

      Tonight? 4 home runs.

      Perfect Games in MLB: 17
      Four-HR Games in MLB: 15

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

I remember two 4-homer games (Delgado and Green) and four perfectos (RJ, Cone, Boomer, Kenny Rogers).

        • Ivan

          Remember Cameron.

          • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

            As shit, forgot about him.

I remember Delgado’s vividly because each of the homers meant something in the game. It wasn’t just a blowout.

            • Ivan

The funny thing was that Cameron and Green had their 4 homer games in like the same week.

        • Andy In Sunny Daytona

      • thurdonpaul

        wow, that surprises me

      • Ivan

U gotta understand who’s throwing those perfect games and who’s hitting those 4 homers. Mike Cameron once hit 4 homers.

    • Chris

There have been more perfect games than 4 HR games (17 to 15).

  • Charlie

we should let them have brett tomko for this game just to be good sports

  • Accent Shallow

They’ve already jumped out in front, and they might have their optimal defensive lineup out there.

And they get the Jays’ pen for the rest of the game. :)

  • Charlie

Melky and ramiro… part of future of the yanks???????

    • UWS

      SWB Yanks, sure.

    • Accent Shallow

      Melky, possibly. Ramiro, unlikely.

      • V

I can see Ramiro sticking as the utility infielder.

        • Accent Shallow

Yeah. I’d be very surprised if he has a future as a starter, though.

    • Chris

Of course, they’ll be on the team for the rest of the year.

  • pc69

would love to see a complete game by Pettite. More rest the bullpen gets the better the Yankees will be.

    • http://9thinning.blogspot.com VO

I really wouldn’t mind seeing Pena for a while. As long as this bat isn’t a joke.

      • pc69

Agreed.. But based on the current resemblance of a MASH unit that the Yankees have become and the lack of options, Pena going 1-3 or 1-4 each night makes him look real good.

I think we can all agree that Pena is a significantly better fielder than Jeter.

However, I doubt Girardi can be convinced that Jeter needs a caddy.

Fun fact: The Phillies have had three players with four-dinger games:

    1. Ed Delahanty – July 13, 1896
    2. Chuck Klein – July 10, 1936
    3. Mike Schmidt – April 17, 1976

      • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

I fucking love Johnny Damon. I really want him back but not likely to happen. It’s like the last year for the Yankees to win a World Series with some of their older players.

    • Accent Shallow

      Beware the contract year.

      • JobaWockeeZ

Yeah I know. Though I’ve always liked Damon. He’s expressed his views on coming back and he really wants to. But yeah even a short term deal would be great as The Artist said.

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

The LF market next year isn’t great. Holliday looks like a product of Coors Field, Bay is very good but not great player, and after that its gets pretty thin. Crawford has an option for 2009/2010 at decent money, so even if the Rays can’t pay him they can deal him and get something back.

Long story short, don’t be surprised if Damon gets a short term deal from the Yanks, especially if Bay signs an extension (though that seems unlikely).

  • pc69

Nice job Swish. But man that guy needs a good 3-4 or 2-4 game.

It does however, have the connotation of being “totally 80’s”.

              • Mike HC

So you are saying I basically called Becca a 12 year old 80’s cheerleader. Now I am truly sorry.

    • Accent Shallow

Yeah, what’s the deal? Hurt? Ill? Tired? Long inning messed him up?

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

    D-Will fail.

  • Quikksand

and it’s a DOUBLE FOR ROBBIE CANOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • Accent Shallow

I am a huge fan of Good Robbie.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Hector Noesi taken out of the game in the 8th with a no-no in tact. Damn pitch counts.

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

      Nolan Ryan is crying somewhere.

      • Mattingly’s Love Child

David Cone says get over it… :-)

        • Accent Shallow

David Cone was pulled once due to pitch count with a no-hitter intact:

          http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/OAK/OAK199609020.shtml

Mariano Rivera, of all people, allowed an infield single (from the box score, sounds like Jeter’s fault)

          • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

That was the first start after he came back from the aneurysm, right?

            • Accent Shallow

              Yup.

(And my bad on blaming Jeter. I found a NY Times article, and apparently the hit was a grounder off the glove of Charlie Hayes, who had been playing in to guard against the bunt. Jeter got the ball to first post-carom, but not in time)

    • Accent Shallow

I can’t wait for something like this to happening in the big leagues. The pundits will go apeshit. Apparently Buchholz was close to his pitch limit when he did, and I’m sure the Yankees could have faced that issue with Hughes if the hamstring hadn’t acted up.

What’s the deal with Noesi, anyway? What kinda stuff?

      • Chris V.

Pope has a 1 hitter through 7 in Trenton. Good night dotf.

    • Ivan

      That’s tough.

  • Nick L

i have been wondering this for a while, do the blue jays players get payed in Canadian currency even though they are in America most of the time. Or is it American currency? anyone know

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Aunt Becca-Optimist Prime

They get paid Canadian. Which is why they have an issue signing free agents so often.

      • Nick L

        thanks

        • DreDog

Until good ole hyper-inflation takes here because of all the stimulus/bailout money.

I can hear the printing presses on Pennsylvania Avenue working overtime!

          Sorry for that.

      • http://www.myspace.com/rbisportsradio Joey H.

        Really? That is totally interesting.

      • A.D.

They pay american, however the Jays make all their tickets and concessions in Canadian, thus its harder for them to spend the same, since they may be making a little less.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Paid in American dollars. The team buys like, $200M a year in American currency to pay it’s employees.

  • DreDog

    Wow, Ohlendorf kept Pujols 0-3.

  • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

Damn, what a finale for House last night. Is it me or are House and 24 having their best seasons to-date concurrently?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

I think seasons one and four of 24 are better than the current one.

      • Charlie

was four the one with the nerve gas? Cuz i liked that one the best

      • http://www.myspace.com/rbisportsradio Joey H.

I don’t get that show. Isn’t it supposed to be 24 hours?

        • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

Yes, every episode is one hour; and every season is one day/24 episodes.

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Aunt Becca-Optimist Prime

I liked last year’s season finale four House much better

      • Reggie C.

House has taken a back seat to Fringe. House is still very watchable but this was its weakest season. Last season’s handling of Amber’s death was terrific. Kutner’s death … meh..

        • DreDog

          Fringe’s season finale was awesome!
          Nimoy, genious!

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Brett Gardner’s got your “Yankees Suck” chant right there.

  • Nick L

    Gardy?

  • A.D.

Brett Gardner now decides to rake

  • Alex S

how many triples is that tonight?

  • pc69

Yankees keep this up they are all going to get tested for PED’s at the end of the game.

    • JobaWockeeZ

Of course they will. We don’t have grit like the Red Sox. The Yankees are a disgrace to baseball.

      /ESPN and Fox Yankee haters

      • pc69

You pretty much summed up ESPN and Fox’s views. You forgot to specifically identify Steve Phillips, Peter Red Sox Gammons, but they are from ESPN. Bunch of freakin tools.

  • Brooklyn Ed

Brett just earned himself more playing time.

  • Charlie

what is up w/ brett gardner

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

He received an overdose of gamma radiation.

Don’t make him angry, you wouldn’t like him when he’s angry.

      • HolyGhostClaw

        Fish tank explodes?

  • Mattingly’s Love Child

It seems most of the lineup took Jeter’s HGH and replaced it with saline, hence everyone raking and him still injured!

  • E-ROC

Gardner with gap power?!!?! Since when….

  • Yankeegirl49

And now Cervelli…we must be living in a parallel universe.

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Or getting a glimpse into the furure. . . .

      • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

        ‘Future’

      • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

BTW-I was not referring to Adolf Hitler in that first post. It was just a typo.

  • JobaWockeeZ

    Love the hustle Cervelli.

  • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

Damn, Rolen still has it. BTW, what caused that riff between he and Tony La Russa?

    • Mattingly’s Love Child

La Russa is a douche, or at least that was my take on it.

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

      Scott Rolen <3 statistical analysis?

      • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

        Wow, I’m loving the responses.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

He refused to drink and drive.

      Too soon?

      • Mattingly’s Love Child

Definitely not too soon. By refusing to acknowledge the drunk driving was a problem La Russa is asking for it FOREVER.

      • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

Nah, it’s never too soon/offensive if it’s funny.

  • Steve O.

A part of me wanted Gardner to steal home.

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

I’m still hoping he’ll charge the mound with the exploding bat with nails in it.

  • Charlie

not that it matters, but i believe Johnny just swung at a ball.

  • Charlie

soriano is frickin awesome. Over the long haul we’d have been better off never trading him.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

      No, not at all.

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

      Seriously? Not for A-Rod?

      • Charlie

No, now we have arod for 9 years and well over 200 million more. With his hip problems and his lack of roids, we’re totally stuck w/ him. I know hes better than Sori, but still

        • A.D.

Sori isn’t exactly making peanuts, and plays a less premium position

    • http://9thinning.blogspot.com VO

He was one of my favorites, but I think it worked out best for us. Also I wasn’t that big on baseball back then, was it possible to do that trade without Soriano?

    • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

We would probably have Cano at 3B and really bad infield defense.

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD
      • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

        Hahahhah!

    • Accent Shallow

What? You are out of your mind.

      • Charlie

maybe so, im just a huge Soriano fan

        • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

I love him too, but he’s an all-around worse player than ARod. And yes, that includes October baseball.

  • Ksturnz

that is one way for Aaron Hill to come back to earth, break his tibula

    • Accent Shallow

He can’t be that hurt if he broke a bone he doesn’t have.

  • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

Oh, here’s an interesting article on the Yanks’ age: http://tinyurl.com/pncfod

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Good grief it’s only the FIFTH?!?!

    • Ivan

      Word right.

    • A.D.

      Un-manageable.

  • Ivan

Yo this is cutting into my video game time with Halo 3.

  • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

OOf. Morneau greeted Willis back to the bigs with a 2-run HR.

    http://espn.go.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=290513109

He’s pitched OK since then, top of the 4th.

  • Mike HC

I am not giving up on the tack on homer. This game has tack on homer written all over for A-Rod

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Aunt Becca-Optimist Prime

He should get one more AB in the ninth at least.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Aunt Becca-Optimist Prime

Damn this time last night the game was over.

  • Charlie

whats wrong with ricky nolasco? chris volstad>nolasco???

    • Mike HC

Nolasco is killing my fantasy team too. What was I thinking taking him in the 9th round.
