Am I the only one with a mental picture of Lanny in some basement in the new England area red in the face and screaming “I told you I’m not hungry Ma! Leave me alone!” at the top of his lungs?
“I’d like to point out that Angel Berroa warmed up the pitcher while Cervelli was getting his gear on. Maybe that is why he is still on the roster. He was using a mitt he got from Bill Dickey.”
Hillarious. Can’t they get someone useful up here? Pena is a stud. Cut the dead weight.
I’d agree with you, except we have one infielder returning from major surgery, and another who’s day-to-day with an oblique strain that may require DL time. I can’t kill them for letting Berroa stick around a couple more days.
If he’s still on the roster in mid-June, though, I may be unhappy.
I think Jeter will be fine, he just needs a couple days rest. I really think we could use the extra bat rather than having 2 back-up middle IF, although at this point I can’t blame Cashmoney for keeping a back-up for the back-up around.
He seems like a good guy, kind of like Torri Hunter. Does a lot for inner city kids. I can’t imagine that once people figured out his crazy delivery, that was all she wrote. Didn’t his velocity drop off a couple years ago? Injury?
I see him going on hot/cold stretches all year. He will keep up his OBP, which is nice. I think he will hit closer to 30HR, depending on how he splits time with Nady when he gets back. Maybe Swisher moves to CF, unless Melky keeps tearing the cover off the ball. In any case, that is a scenario I am looking forward too. That and the discussion about what to do with Hughes once Wang comes back and dominates.
Jeebus, how come every single time the manager goes to the bullpen to get a guy or not get a guy it’s a “referendum” on “trust”?
Maybe he just wanted to get Aceves some work? Maybe it’s not a show of faith or lack thereof in anybody, because these two innings are pretty much fait accompli?
Exactly, I was under the impression that a team wants to use the fewest relief pitchers possible. Why extend the bullpen more than necessary just to show trust in someone.
You: “Why the hell is this thing happening in this situation?”
Us: “There’s nothing wrong with this happening in this situation. You’re overreacting.”
You: “Oh. Well, I wasn’t talking about this situation, then, forget it. Why do these guys who I think suck exist?”
Us: “Because they don’t suck like you think they suck. You’re probably still overreacting.”
Sorry if you guys discussed this in an earlier thread, i’m too lazy to go read through all of them and just got on RAB… but does anyone know the deal with those extra umps? just crazy fans?
Due to complaints by the Steins about the officiating of late, MLB put 2 “unofficial” umpires in the stands behind HP just in case we wanted a home plate umpire switch.
West Virginia State Employees make so little money that they receive food stamps (and they were asked to take a pay cut to avoid budget problems)…..so careful what you ask for LI.
Regardless of what happened, Albaladejo should be sent down. Why do we continue to run relievers out there that simply cannot throw strikes? Walking the 9 hitter with a 6 run lead is inexcusable. Veras is a joke too. At this point our top relievers should be whoever can throw strikes. Aceves has shown that he can do that, I wouldn’t limit him to garbage time.
You have to be kidding me. This guy can’t even be on mop-up duty. If he can’t be trusted to hold a 6-run lead, then why is he on this team? Get him out. Send him down. Call up someone who isn’t a total pants pooper.
Agree 100%. I don’t understand how Robertson kepps getting sent down even though he’s been our 3rd most effective reliever and actually THROWS STRIKES.

I’d take a slow game with us owning than a short one where we get owned like yesterday.
Amen.
Since I missed last week’s Lost and haven’t had time to watch it, I got plenty of time for this game….
Same here…figure Ill catch up over the weekend.
ZOMG!11!!1! Pettitte back in for the 6th!!11!1 But what about teh pitch count!1!1!!
Why does my Mlb.tv keep thinking it’s a commercial in the middle of innings?!?!
With Millar on the juice in 2004, that thing was 10 rows deep.
Pat Venditte of all people coughs up Charleston’s no-hitter.
…So I was going to say ‘hey he got promoted’ and then i realized that Charleston is lower than Tampa.
I couldn’t remember which was which this afternoon.
I would LOVE to see a game in Charleston. I hear its a pretty town, and I’d love to see Brackman live.
He should’ve thrown with his right foot, it gets good life on the FB.
I was just thinking about something.
If Jim Abbott and Pat Venditte were on the same team, Abbott just might kill him with his bare hands.
Or hand.
I was just thinking about something.
http://s.bebo.com/app-image/73.....ovie_2.jpg
Yeah, I know.
Jim Abott would probably just learn to throw with his feet, as Pat Venditte does. Thus, causing both to settle their handedness, or, no hand despute.
So that rest Halladay gave the pen certainly didn’t last long.
The rotation giveth; the rotation taketh.
And Gardner got his HR before Ortiz this season. I’m still loving that.
Not supposed to be a reply. My bad.
Odds Gardner hits #2 before Papi hits #1?
This made me smile.
Lucky inning for Andy there. Those three fly outs were hit pretty hard.
Andy’s at 106 pitches. Bring him out for the 7th?
Nah, sit the man down. They have a six run lead.
Am I the only one with a mental picture of Lanny in some basement in the new England area red in the face and screaming “I told you I’m not hungry Ma! Leave me alone!” at the top of his lungs?
Yeah, probably.
I thought so. I have a John Dorian type of imagination…(drifts off with head tilted slightly to the left.)
Oh great. Now when he snaps out of it he’s gonna say some stupid thing no one elsewould understand.
/Todd
Banana Hammock!
You try to get in here wearing that thing, I’m gonna give you a three story atomic wedgie.
These God Damn Yanks are not losing.
Exactly. “But they’re supposed to suck!”
2-for-3: Home Run, Ground Out, Triple.
Typing it out because I still don’t believe Gardner’s line.
Walk.
Brett Gardner has 8 total bases tonight in 4 plate appearances.
Amazingly, none of them have been due to singles or stolen bases.
:: head explodes ::
Is the bottom of our order no longer mighty? Bummer.
Brandon League has some of the best stuff of any reliever in the Majors.
Was just hoping for Gardner to continue his power surge.
Or maybe multiple triples in one inning again, deadball-style.
Hey umps, your teams down by 6.
RIP Zimmerman’s hit-streak.
Weird story: I used to play ball with a guy named Ryan Zimmerman who died in a car crash after our freshman year of college.
Will Dimaggio record eva be broken?
No
Someday. I’m just not sure we will be around to see it.
No, too much specialization in the pens. Dimaggio got to see the same pitcher 4 or 5 times a game, that’s not happening now.
Isn’t this the type of game that Veras/Edwar/Albaladejo should be in to get thier work in?
Remember that game in Detroit that was 8-1 that Albie nearly blue necessitating the use of Rivera?
Unfortunately.
No, I don’t want this to get interesting
The Mexican Gangster will never, ever, beat the Mexecutioner in terms of nicknames.
How about AK-47?
Mexecutioner as in Manny Pacquiao?
He’s Phillipino.
Oh I know. I think that’s also his nickname for beating a lot of Mexican boxers. But I’m a big fan since I am also Filipino.
Heh, Kababayan! Good to see some of my fellow Filipinos here.
I thought he was Filipino
I thought he was Spanish.
Nope full Filipino. But we do look like Hispanics due to us being a mix of Chinese, native Filipinos and the Spanish.
Did you ever see Kid Chicago? He fought out of Detroit, I think.
No, Joakim Soria.
Hey, the Mexican Darrell Rasner!
Please pitch well enough that we don’t have to sell you to Japan, sir.
Per Pete Abe:
“I’d like to point out that Angel Berroa warmed up the pitcher while Cervelli was getting his gear on. Maybe that is why he is still on the roster. He was using a mitt he got from Bill Dickey.”
Hillarious. Can’t they get someone useful up here? Pena is a stud. Cut the dead weight.

By June 1st, we will make the greatest trade in Baseball history.
We will get Brian Bruney, Jorge Posada, Damaso Marte, Chien Ming Wang and Xavier Nady and give up nothing for all of them.
You think Posada, Marte and Nady will be ready to go by then?
That’s their target date from what I know.
BTW-Suzyn Waldman said Bruney had a good bullpen today.
BTW-Suzyn Waldman said Bruney had a good bullpen today.
I bet she did…
After watching him pitch, I believe she said this-
Dontrelle’s night is over.
The good news is Dontrelle Willis only walked one guy. The rest of the news is all bad.
http://espn.go.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=290513109
He walked two guys.
Must have been in that last inning. He had one going into the 5th.
His ERA is still, what, a quarter of Wang’s?
Poor D-Train.
I can’t believe he’s done.
At 27.
Plus I can’t believe Dombrowski gave him and extension. Yikes.
Dumbrowski
It is sad. He seems like such a good guy too. I am rooting for him.
He seems like a good guy, kind of like Torri Hunter. Does a lot for inner city kids. I can’t imagine that once people figured out his crazy delivery, that was all she wrote. Didn’t his velocity drop off a couple years ago? Injury?
Yeah, and his enthusiasm and his personal story was so great for the game. It’s hard not to root for him, and its sad that it appears to be over.
He was our updated version of Vida Blue.
Did you see the car crash he survived? Insane.
This commercial, in its sagacity, drives me nuts with its talk about the monies.
I’m sticking by Swish. He’s become a K-Machine, but he carried us for a nice stretch.
Yep, he’s just regressing to the mean.
Swisher has been striking out at a nauseating rate.
He always Ks a ton. If he hits 20+ hr/year, I can live with that.
And gets on base at a .360+ clip with no drastic L/R split.
And with his great OBP I’ll be just fine.
If we can’t trust veras/edwar/albie here, and im not sayin we should, then what the hell are they doing on the roster??
And our other options are…
Easy… Dave Robertson & Mark Melancon
Until they start getting hit hard.
They’d do a better job than the trio i mentioned above.
MM needed to go back to AAA. He needed some steady work and he wasn’t throwing strikes here, which was weird.
And with Robertson, I’m sorry, but I just don’t see it.
yea, i rest my case about why albie sucks
Jeebus, how come every single time the manager goes to the bullpen to get a guy or not get a guy it’s a “referendum” on “trust”?
Maybe he just wanted to get Aceves some work? Maybe it’s not a show of faith or lack thereof in anybody, because these two innings are pretty much fait accompli?
Exactly, I was under the impression that a team wants to use the fewest relief pitchers possible. Why extend the bullpen more than necessary just to show trust in someone.
So Aceves getting some work is a bad thing because?
I never said it was. ANd i never really complained about putting him in I like aceves, i just don’t like veras/edwar/albie
Um, they’re up by 6. Why wouldn’t you use your long reliever/mop up man here?
Forget this situation. All i’m saying is i think that robertson/melancon would be a better help to this team than the three shitheads
Allow me to recap, Charlie.
… aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand, SCENE!
Aceves hadn’t pitched since Hughes last start, 5/4. So that was long enough ago I would think it’d be time to get him some work….
I just got home and looked at the box score and I thought there was a typo or something, Gardner with a HR and Triple!!!!
He received an overdose of gamma radiation.
Don’t make him angry, you wouldnt like him when he’s angry.
(Hoping you get the reference)
Hulk reference???? Either way I think I get it!!!! LOL
DING DING DING!
Did you know that Lou Ferrigno’s deaf?
Damn Mike u never knew that!?!? Loved him in King of Queens btw.
And you couldn’t even tell with the fine acting he did.
He said “GRRRRRRRRRAAAAAHHHH” and “HHHHUUUUURRRRHH” with such excellent pronunciation.
Get it together Albie. I’d rather see Veras.
The Mexican Gangster, looking solid.
Sorry if you guys discussed this in an earlier thread, i’m too lazy to go read through all of them and just got on RAB… but does anyone know the deal with those extra umps? just crazy fans?
They’re Canadians. Batshit insane.
Their damn dollars are called “loons”, for Mosakes.
http://stuffandthingsblog.file.....hirt-1.jpg
Due to complaints by the Steins about the officiating of late, MLB put 2 “unofficial” umpires in the stands behind HP just in case we wanted a home plate umpire switch.
Heh, Aceves is going to get a save in this game.
You know what really grinds my gears?
You, America. F$%# you.
I was bemoaning the save rule to an old guy sitting next to me at the Mets game today.
Gritt Grittner gritting out that gritty HR and that gritty triple. Way to go!
Too many walks for Albie….
Sonnofa…..
A yankee win and long island threating to secede.
what an abnormal day.
What, what the hell is Texas Governor Rick Perry doing galavanting about Long Island stirring up secessionist talk?
GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE, YOU REVERSE CARPETBAGGER!!!
IETC.
LI has a point though, they do get screwed on state aid.
Texas, I beg of you, secede.
Heh.
That’d be great for the Yankees, add all of the Texas prospects to the international free agent pool.
True.
Everybody gets screwed with budgetary maneuvering in one way or another, though. Everybody.
Just remember that the last state to successfully “secede” from another was West Virginia, during the Civil War. I’m just saying…
West Virginia State Employees make so little money that they receive food stamps (and they were asked to take a pay cut to avoid budget problems)…..so careful what you ask for LI.
OBP machine Marco Scutaro.
Sheesh, no reason for Mo to be up in this spot.
Like killing a fly with an elephant gun?
He certainly shouldn’t be, but save situation = Mo.
Girardi’s gonna do it “by the book”
Regardless of what happened, Albaladejo should be sent down. Why do we continue to run relievers out there that simply cannot throw strikes? Walking the 9 hitter with a 6 run lead is inexcusable. Veras is a joke too. At this point our top relievers should be whoever can throw strikes. Aceves has shown that he can do that, I wouldn’t limit him to garbage time.
Walking the 9 hitter with a 6 run lead is inexcusable.
Ugh, this is my new least favorite phrase.
There is nothing in baseball that is “inexcusable”. Nothing.
The facial hair of the Boston Red Sox is inexcusable.
Meh, they’re just overcompensating for their small penises. Even that is more “regrettable but understandable” as opposed to “inexcusable”.
And disgusting.
Only in baseball can millionaires do their jobs and look like they work in record stores.
You have to be kidding me. This guy can’t even be on mop-up duty. If he can’t be trusted to hold a 6-run lead, then why is he on this team? Get him out. Send him down. Call up someone who isn’t a total pants pooper.
Albie is pitching his way back to Scranton….
The bus is outside
I’ve got my CDL, if he blew this game I’d drive his ass back there myself!
Way to make a long game longer. Even Veras could get these outs..
There we go Albie.
Albie just wanted to make it interesting.
See? No worries.
Precisely.
Some good, some bad. The refinement process continues.
Refinement might be a stretch there.
But on the positive side Aceves looked great.
It was nice to see someone come out of the pen and throw strikes!
Even so, he has no business being in the bullpen. That should show Girardi enough right there, call up someone who is of some use.
Agree 100%. I don’t understand how Robertson kepps getting sent down even though he’s been our 3rd most effective reliever and actually THROWS STRIKES.
Albaladejo is aware that a pitcher can’t create his own save situation, right?
Today, we spell redemption… Brett.
Tomorrow, we spell it Swisher. I’m smelling a big game cooking from Nick tomorrow.
Get your RedBulls ready, people, it’s about to go down…
Grister v Melkster continued. Keep these boys on their toesies.
Charleston Chew takes the hill tomorrow. Let’s win the series.
Damn, Pettitte got quite lucky tonight–9 base-runners, 2 strikeouts. Eek.
The line between a good outing and a horrid one is often razor thin, for every pitcher*.
