Game 34 Spillover Thread

By Joseph Pawlikowski

You’d think after that first inning they’d have scored a few more by now.

Captain ” No Range”

We had a Lanny sighting- last comment of last thread!!

Yup.

“Lanny says:
The Yankees are the only team that can make a scrub like Brian Talent look like a Cy Young winner.”

My response: Brian Tallet’s last outing, on May 9th:
7.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 7 K (win)

handtius says:

that doesn’t count. we wasn’t a scrub then.

Matt-Pitt says:

Leadoff walk to Gardner. They are at least tying the game this inning.

Joe, you have watched the Yankees in the last three years…right?

Didn’t they have the most come from behind wins last year?

That SLG didn’t win that poll makes me sad.

Do not bunt please.

John K. says:

If Gardner doesn’t steal here, I may cry.

thurdonpaul says:

Evan says:

Don’t waste the out! STEAL!!!

Francisco Cervelli = hero. With gorgeous eyes.

handtius says:

smells like crush.

Matt-Pitt says:

Evan says:

Way to go Joe. Good call. Well executed. Shows he has a lot of trust in Cervelli.

YES!!!!

Girardi LOVES that play. Show the bunt, put it in the infielder’s heads, and then swing away.

That’s a DP if they don’t tease them with the bunt there.

pat says:

Yeah but didn’t he attempt to bunt a ball off the plate and fail?

A.D. says:

Intentionally failed at the bunt, gotta sell it!

Bingo.

That’s not the first time we’ve seen it either. Its especially smart since most of the Yanks can’t bunt for shit.

27 this year says:

if we don’t score hear, I will cry.

On the other hand, maybe another rally is started by the bottom of the order?

JackC says:

I’ve previously bitched about some of Girardi’s moves, but I tip my hat to him right there. Well planned and executed.

27 this year says:

plus, CC deserves a win today if he can keep it up. He only has 79 pitches through six and could go at least 8 maybe another CG

handtius says:

Range, clutch? Jeter?

Matt-Pitt says:

There you go Cap’n… Johnny Dramaa, do it up.

Oblique that, bitches.

Evan says:

Fuck you oblique, I do it myself.

Good swing, Derek. Now Johnny goes yard.

Or strikes out on 3 pitches.

JackC says:

Oh captain, my captain

A.D. says:

Smitt Dog says:

Opinions: What’s Cervelli’s ceiling in terms fo offensive production? What’s the book on him offensively, in terms of projections?

Solid backup. If he hits .250/.300/.380, I’ll be happy (provided someone better is starting in front of him)

And yet I ask that and you all tell me to go find Google.

He was asking for our personal opinions, not for easy to retrieve information publicly listed on numerous websites.

mustang says:

Ladies And Gentlemen

Old + New = WINS

mustang says:

Who says we can’t all get along?

Evan says:

That was a DP ball if he made contact.

JackC says:

Tex needs to be big here

Evan says:

I don’t think Tex has swung at the first pitch all year.

A.D. says:

hes hit a few HR on the first pitch.

Evan says:

Maybe he should start swinging at the 1st pitch more often then. Seems to be the best one he sees in most of the ABs lately. Usually a fastball.

Frasor is dealing.

Yup.

But Tex really should do something here.

MelkmanforMVP says:

Drive them in Tex.

Evan says:

I think this is at least a sign that Tex is turning. 8 pitches this AB. Good for him.

V says:

There’s the popup we all know and love.

Grrr.

Man come on Alex I want more than just one run here!

He’s still overeager.

JackC says:

In pretty much everything he does. All his life.

Meh, the past few years where he’s OPS’ed like 1.000 every June-September, he hasn’t been “overeager”.

He’s bound to settle in.

JackC says:

No doubt — I was thinking more about his m.o. for, well, everything else.

Matt-Pitt says:

C’mon A-Rod… Pick em’ up.

mustang says:

come on A-rod
A_ROD
A_ROD
A_ROD

Man Alex’s timing is off. Not much but enough.

Evan says:

In 2 weeks, those pitches are 15 rows back.

mustang says:

27 this year says:

Jason Frasor been good for a while and based on his ERA, he is having a good season. Underrated reliever, never really hear much about him.

Evan says:

We caught a break there.

Not according to Gameday.

27 this year says:

i was about to say the same.

Matt-Pitt says:

A-Rod JUST missed both of those fastballs. When he shakes a little rust off, that ball is going a longggg way.

handtius says:

I’m greedy. I don’t want to wait.

Well, tying it is still better than nothing else.

A.D. says:

nothing like the 2-4 hitters not getting it done.

V says:

Anyone else get the feeling that ARod’s going to go on a tear soon?

mustang says:

not soon enough.

Yup. He’s starting to just miss a lot. He’s hit three balls to the track/in front of the track tonight, and one lineout. It’s coming.

mustang says:

I agree actually that at bat wasn’t bad he just a bit off.

mustang says:

Well nothing new there.
Maybe next time

yankees=warriors says:

Well, at least we tied it…

Yankee1010 says:

1st and 2nd, 0 outs, Damon, Teixeira and A-Rod up and the runners don’t even advance. Not a great sign.

handtius says:

Frazor ha a .71 ERA for a reason.

Yankee1010 says:

Yeah, and they’re the 2, 3 and 4 hitters making serious bank for a reason. A couple of outs moving the runners could have done the trick.

handtius says:

Yeah, cause we’re learned in the past 9 years that hitting ALWAYS trumps pitching. Why have we been outed in the playoffs? Not enough pitching. I say again, he has a .71 for a reason.

Matt-Pitt says:

A-Rod just missed 2… That first and second shot to right he just missed both of those. Line drive to third. Least he is on it and hitting the ball hard.

Reggie C. says:

Frasor earned that out. Challenged Arod with a couple Fbs right in Arod’s wheel house.

Yup. Not much you can do other that tip your cap.

C.Panella says:

At least we tied but cmon runner on 1st n 2nd with no out and they dont even move :(

Matt-Pitt says:

CC has to do his job here and have a quick and scoreless inning.

82 pitches, he’s good for two more. If he has a quick inning he could pitch a complete game.

John says:

at least he’s making contact everytime, flying out everytime today, and taking his walks. Soon, those flyouts will be doubles and HRs as his timing comes back.

That was a strike.

A.D. says:

Yankee1010 says:

Ah, the 7th inning, where it starts to go awry for C.C.

handtius says:

yeah, except his last outing where he threw a complete came shut out. or all those other complete cames he’s tossed in his career.

Yankee1010 says:

Yeah, or 2 of 3 outings before that where it fell apart in the 7th. Or the other outing in those 3 when it was the 6th.

handtius says:

If you paid attention to CC in the past or what the guys here at RAB have been telling everyone, CC starts off slow and gets better as the year goes on. An April a career does not make.

Yankee1010 says:

One, please don’t try to lecture me as if this is the 1st time I’ve ever watched Sabathia.

Two, don’t try to skirt around the fact the I countered your point and that upset you.

Three, do you really think I need someone on a blog to tell me what to think about baseball?

Four, it’s May 14th, not April 14th.

handtius says:

Um, I’m not upset. I’m just countering your point. don’t get your panties in a twirl. Check his career April stats, then check his stat for the rest of the year and you’ll see the difference. Then look at his April stats this year and his stats since, one decent, one great and this one 7in 2runs is pretty good.

Yankee1010 says:

I’m not going to belabor the point. The fact is, in multiple previous starts, and in this one, he has had problems in the 7th. That isn’t really debatable.

(Comments wont nest below this level)
handtius says:

Your original post said, “Ah, the 7th inning, where it starts to go awry for C.C.” I commented because of the notion that you believed that is he failed in the 7th before, he will fail here. I was merely pointing out that he doesn’t always fall apart in the 7th.

He has been paying attention. So far more often than not this is around where it usually starts to go bad for CC.

Matt-Pitt says:

Thats not a good start… C’mon CC. They pay you to bear down in these situations, you have to come out of this inning scoreless.

2 runs in 6.1 innings is a quality start.

Matt-Pitt says:

I meant to the inning. The overall game has been great by CC.

Hes paid more than to get “quality starts”

Heh, Gardner uncorked another good one.

Gardner doesn’t have Melky’s arm, but he’s VERY accurate.

Ugh CC come on dont give away the lead like that….

Eh, this never works for Girardi.

Matt-Pitt says:

Smart move. Setup the DP with McDonald and get outta this inning.

Crazy fact: that was the first American League intentional walk in Rod Barajas’s career. All the rest of his walks came while he played for the Diamondbacks. I can only assume he was being walked to face the pitcher.

John McDonald batting = a pitcher batting

A.D. says:

Id’ rather face McDonald instead of Micah Owings.

Matt-Pitt says:

Gotta throw strikes, CC. You should wanna face Scutaro over Hill.

Matt-Pitt says:

Come on man… Walk Scutaro to face the man who leads the league in hits? At least challenge Scutaro. Bear down big here, CC. This at bat could be the ballgame.

A.D. says:

Jeeez, I do not like Hill in this situation.

27 this year says:

I think this is CC’s last inning. I mean, you don’t want to overwork him and this inning has been tiresome.

A.D. says:

Is it just me or is CC constantly fixing his pants?

VO says:

He want’s to look professional.

It’s not just you. I noticed as well.

Matt-Pitt says:

HUGE… Come on offense, pick this man up.

handtius says:

soo, CC’s doubters, what you say now.

JackC says:

Well that was a little more drama than I feel this narrative required.

27 this year says:

YES OUT OF THE INNING!!

Nice job by CC.

That inning is the difference between April CC and May CC.

VO says:

Can Coke pitch tonight?

VO says:

Never mind according to PeteAbe nope.

A.D. says:

that injury is taking forever.

VO says:

Well at least he’ll be back tomorrow. But your right it’s been like a week(it feels like).

Matt-Pitt says:

Don’t think he is available for tonight.

So who pitches to Rios and Wells?

Matt-Pitt says:

A.D. says:

Maybe Sterling’s cheesiest call: “HIDEKI! UPPER DECK-EE!”

handtius says:

I can just picture Hideki giving you a massage with a happy ending.

handtius says:

if by happy ending, you mean, world series, sweet. If not, cool.

John K. says:

Better option to pitch the eighth: CC at 101 pitches after a worrisome seventh, or someone in the bullpen?

I do not envy Girardi this decision.

Infamous says:

Gotta go with your best pitcher.

Its unanimous, CC.

Hideki hit that ball to Mount Midoriyama.

/Ninja Warrior

JackC says:

Great! Now we bring in Bruney to…oh wait…so now we bring in Coke to…oh wait.

boychick says:

A.D. says:

Old robbie on that swing.

Yeah, that’s not ’swinging at good pitches’

A.D. says:

Thats Gritty, getting hit checking a swing.

VO says:

Is it just me, but I’d like to see Gardner trying to bunt for hits more often.

Smitt Dog says:

Um is YES’s top line all F’d up?

A.D. says:
Marc says:

Yes it was. It was showing 0 outs, and there are clearly 2 outs

A.D. says:

Totally didn’t see that, when I was looking it was fine.

And by F’d up I figured he meant distorted or something like that.

yankees=warriors says:

Ok, now we have to decide who should pitch the 8th.
Sabathia again or…

yankees=warriors says:

Sorry, didn’t see the earlier comment.

JackC says:

Gardner must steal here, no?

Alex S says:

Thaaaaaaaat’s Grit!

Way to be, Frankie.

A.D. says:

Cervelli tearing it up.

pat says:

Nice to see the heart of the lineup heating up.

A.D. says:

Tomorrow Gardner in the 3 hole, Cervelli clean-up

Matt-Pitt says:

C’mon Cap’n… Add some insurance

Will (the other one) says:

Can we pleeeeease have this Cervelli for the rest of the season?

Is there a reason this woman in the anti-smoking ad is Australian?

And why wouldn’t she take the elevator?

A.D. says:

The accent actually takes away from the ad, all I hear is the accent, not paying attention to the message.

It’s the accent.

And she wants a role on LOST.

Smitt Dog says:

I love that Australian accent on women. Its the anti British/Boston accent.

And why wouldn’t she take the elevator?

She didn’t know it would help. Elevators in Australia only go down.

http://www.sadtrombone.com

A.D. says:

Naturally no insurance.

Jamal G. says:

UPDATE, 9:12 p.m.: Another deep fly ball for Alex as the inning ends with two runners on base. It’s like he’s just missing a little something.

Am I reaching, or is this guy being a douche with that last line?

A.D. says:

He’s being a douche.

If he would have dropped of the “something”, it would be totally innocuous.

Yeah, I think the inclusion of the last word turns it into a subtle dig.

pat says:

No Jamal, abe is straight doucheface.

DreDog says:

I can’t be 100% sure if he’s impying you no what.

DreDog says:

Go CC. I keep telling my brother not to trade him if fantasy. They guy is a monster in the 2nd half.

Anyone think we might see Mo here if CC gets into trouble?

Will says:

Probably depends on how many outs there are/aren’t.

Guess that answers that question.

That’s a strike. These guys are awful.

Matt-Pitt says:

Come CC, throw strikes!!

A.D. says:

Do not want a leadoff walk, though want a leadoff XBH even less.

yankees=warriors says:

It’s a good thing Cervelli is doing so well, then we don’t have to rush Montero.

andrew says:

I don’t really think Cervelli has much to do with Montero at this point, not like Montero is anywhere near the majors.

Yankee1010 says:

Few things make me as confident as Jose Veras warming up.

Smitt Dog says:

Let’s go guys. Lets make this one stand up. One run wins feel better for some reason.

If Veras comes into this game while the Yanks still have a lead, I may have to rethink my position on the Girardi-should-he-have-a-job-issue.

Jamal G. says:

That scared the fuck outta me. Whew.

Infamous says:

Wow that was scary.

Matt-Pitt says:

I thought the game was tied off the bat.

DreDog says:

Any calls for Cervelli being CC’s personal catcher?

Eirias says:

I think he is everyone’s personal catcher right now.

A.D. says:

Alex S says:
Jamal G. says:

I’m sorry, but do we not have the greatest reliever in baseball history on our team?

Matt-Pitt says:

I’m feelin’ some insurance runs coming.

Heartbeat = skipped.

Yankee1010 says:

Time for an insurance run or two with Damon, Teixeira and A-Rod up.

JackC says:

Brett Gardner — you want him on that wall, you need him on that wall!

Sweet Lou says:

Out of the inning! Hand it over to the almighty Mo in the ninth.

Jamal G. says:

95 MPH on pitch no. 111.

Oooh, that inning was three batters of CC being thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiisclose to disaster.

Huge that we maintained the lead there. Very big for CC and us.

JackC says:

Very big. IF IF IF the game ends with this score, it might the team’s best win of the year. Of course, there haven’t been as many to choose from as we might like

Marc says:

WHO IS GOING TO PITCH TEH 8TH?#?#!@?@!

………………………….

Um just a guy called CC!

Scott Downs should be a Football player.

Eirias says:

He can be a punter. I hear they make good baseball players.

Now Josh Outman, that’s a Baseball player.

Carl Crawford?

Darin Erstad?

Brian Jordan?

pat says:

Bo Jackson?

Deon Sanders?

Downs. As in 3rd and long.

Boy, that shit went nowhere.

I thought that might turn into a bit.

Maybe because while the “downs” thing had legs, I think the “Scott” part of the name undermines it.

“Scott” sounds like a figure skater’s name to me, not a football player’s name. There’s some cognitive dissonance in play.

DreDog says:

Remember Glen Bragg?

yankees=warriors says:

I know our bullpen sucks, and I’m not questioning Girardi, but does anyone else think these 100+ pitches will catch up with our pitchers in the 2nd half?

JackC says:

The bullpen sucks, and it’s sucked at least in part because the starters haven’t generally given much length. He’s in a tough spot. And they’re no going 125 pitches

No.

125 could, but taking CC out after 110 is perfectly fine.

CC’s big jellyrolls of fat are like pitcher abuse point insulation. He eats innings for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and only the blood drips down to the children.

skeleton coat says:

As an aside: anyone else think the Blue Jays have the ugliest pitchers in all of MLB?

bizarrojamie says:

The team as a whole has a lot of mullet going on. I blame being in Canada and having the hockey culture.

NHL Western Conference finals are gonna be Wings v Blackhawks.

That’s gonna be goooood.

Unlike Teixeira’s AB.

Mark Teixeira, 2009:

vs RHP as LH – 109 PA’s, .176/.303/.407 (.709)
vs LHP as RH – 30 PA’s, .304/.433/.522 (.955)

daveg says:

great lines Upside!

OMG PLATOON HIM!!11!!!111 GIRARDI IS TEH SUCKS!!

handtius says:

Interesting. What, in your opinion, do you think is causing this LH scuffle?

Nothing in particular.

I think what’s causing him to hit better from the right side than from the left is the fact that he’s had 70 fewer PA’s on the right side with which to suck appropriately.

http://www.instantrimshot.com

handtius says:

Ah…His suckiness will reign supreme.

i say he finishes with a 200/300/400 on the year.

high hopes.

Mo Rivera only has a 123 ERA+ right now.

That feels weird to say.

handtius says:

It shall raise again. Nasferato.

pat says:

Where’s Blue Jays Daze?

Probably watching hockey, those filthy moose-loving bastards.

The real question is, Where’s Lanny? He just dropped in to throw that Tallet-Cy-Young bomb on us, and then once the Blue Jays lead evaporated, he went back into his cave? Figures.

handtius says:

did you expect anything less? vintage Lanny.

andrew says:

He’s still got it

DreDog says:

Loves this.
This game is ovah!

A.D. says:

Love the Cervelli fist pump

Yankee1010 says:

Aubrey Huff and Mike Francesser do not. And Cervelli will have Hell to pay for that.

Matt-Pitt says:

Great, great win.

We bow down to your greatness, Mo Rivera

pat says:

Haha Cervelli is fucking stoked.

JackC says:

Best win of the year. so far.

yankees=warriors says:

It’s so frustrating that my web TV is a few minutes behind.
I want to know the results, but I also want to watch the game myself!

John K. says:
thurdonpaul says:

i love that comment

Ben C says:

good save but rivera was only hitting 88-90….

JobaWockeeZ says:

And this just proves velocity is NOT everything.

JackC says:

Yeah, but it’s in Canadian numbers

I like how you handled that, Jack.

(3… 2… 1…)

Tom Zig says:

handtius says:

game day had him at 93

steve (different one) says:

no, he was hitting 92-93.

gameday FTW.

Will says:

According to gameday, Mo only threw cutters.

Uh oh. Fist pump after the win there by Cervelli.

Francesa will be all over this shit.

Mark says:

Yankees win!

To make the day better, sox lose. And tampa is losing in the 9th.

Only 3 games back in the loss column.

dkidd says:

pitching and defense! another series win

let’s dominate this coming homestand, despite more rain

handtius says:

2 series in a row…time for that roll we’re supposed to get on.

Sweet Lou says:

Great great Win! Boston’s loss makes it even better.

Sweet Dick Willie says:

Ortiz’s 0-7 w/ 3ks and 7 LOBs makes it even better.

Sweet Dick Willie says:

Make that 12 LOBs. Sorry.

Tom Zig says:

Ortiz strands 12. I have him on my fantasy team, but I bench him every day just for spite.

I have him on my fantasy team, but I bench him every day just for spite.

That’s kinda funny. Still, though, I wouldn’t have him on my team, I wouldn’t want his pathetic suckiness to seep into someone else’s fantasy stats by osmosis.

Ortiz is officially an H1N1 level pandemic.

Tony says:

Am I allowed to call Headlights during these on-field interviews?

Cervelli-”I just want to say Hi to Rebecca,
amor de mi vida.”

yankees=warriors says:

BUT, nothing matters when we win, LOL!!!

I love listening to Pasta Fagiole’s postgame interviews.

Hilarious.

A.D. says:

The love interviewing Cervelli

Kim Jones: That was a great play you made on the Gardner throw, what was going through your mind?
Cervelli: Bibbady boppy, bibbady boopy!
Kim Jones: Girardi’s shown a lot of faith in you, how did he prepare you to start in Jorge and Molina’s absence?
Cervelli: Bobbady booppy, bibbady boppy!

Bryan says:

AHAHAHAHA! IETC!!

Rich I. says:

First pump, Francisco Cervelli! Yeah, baby!

I gues it’s back to Ma’s basement for Lanny.

Tom Zig says:

but no spread sheets

Yankees de ganar, los Yankees ganan!!!!

A.D. says:

Wow Detroit’s pen is god aweful

Collective 5.06 ERA, 10th worst in the bigs.

Our team ERA is dead last in the AL.

BTW-You know which team is dead last in ERA for the starters? I’ll give you a hint, their GM is a genius.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/.....p;type=reg

I like being on the winning side of 3-2 better than the losing

steve (different one) says:

kindof funny how smart the manager looks when the players get it done.

Girardi took the bunt off and called the hit and run, which Cervelli executed perfectly. if he does, Girardi is smart. if he K’s, Girardi is stupid for not bunting with your 3rd string catcher…

same with leaving CC in. if he gets the outs, it’s a great decision. if he doesn’t, it wasn’t.

hindsight managing…much easier than real managing.

If things work out badly, most fans think the manager (to use a Blackjack analogy) should have hit on 19. They still shouldn’t have, despite the result, but try explaining that to them.

A.D. says:

But the player to my left got a 2!!!!!

Bob Stone says:

And the player to my right got an Ace!

Smh @ ESPN news sayin the Yanks are going for their rare series win this season tonite. We only lost 4 series all year. Our record is bad because three of them were sweeps.

Tom Zig says:

smh?

NESPN says Yankees are 100 games under .500

Tom Zig says:

Kim Jones keeps calling CC gritty…is that even possible?

CC ate grit for breakfast and shat out Pedroia

A.D. says:

Ohh man mocking Sterling on BBTN

I hate that I’m watching BBTN right now but there is literally nothing else on.

Kevin Greene says:

mlb network.,..1,000,000 times better than BBTN

Tony says:

Sterling deserves to be mocked. I hate that man. I only wish he and Kay hadn’t split up so the suck could be avoided.

I wish MLB.tv allowed me to see out-of-market broadcasts.
