  1. Manimal says:

    So why didn’t Gardner steal?

  2. John says:

damn it tex…is he being booed?

  3. So I just got back from umpiring. I think I must’ve called only about 25 strikes the whole game. The rest were either swings and misses or balls. Ten year olds suck at getting the ball over the plate.

  4. Reggie C. says:

Shawn earned comment of the night.

Define dominating? Do the hitters in AAA hit mistakes as well as in the majors?
    -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_–_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-
Define where the hell else you wanted him to go. What comes after AAA? I’ll give you a hint. It’s not BBB.

    • Yankee1010 says:

And not, AAA hitters don’t hit mistakes nearly as well as major league hitters. There’s a reason they’re in AAA.

      • K.B.D. says:

So the solution to that problem is keep getting those guys at AAA out, bring him up and complain he should be sent down to “work on stuff” when he struggles adjusting? He needs seasoning at the major league level. Yes, he might get blown out sometimes, but he’ll also spin some gems. It’s part of learning to pitch.

        • Accent Shallow says:

I think that he needs to work on his change-up. It’d certainly be easier to do that in AAA. But you’re right, he needs to learn how to get major league hitters out. He can get MiL hitters with just the fastball and curve, apparently.

          • K.B.D. says:

His curve ball can work as a changeup. He has 3 pitches as far as I know, his fastball, cutter and curve. If he can work those three effectively, he won’t need a change, it’ll be a luxury. The problem tonight was he lost his curveball.

            • Accent Shallow says:

While he can absolutely pitch very effectively at the ML level without the change (ref: his first start back), I think that a pitcher needs more than one off-speed pitch. A night like this would be a good example of why.

        • Joey H. says:

Yep. Exactly my point. Let’s keep him in AAA his whole career so he can pitch to a 1.86 ERA or whatever it was. People have no logic.

        • Yankee1010 says:

You didn’t read that correctly. I never once said that he should be in AAA. I was saying that pc69 wasn’t making sense.

The only way that Hughes is going to fulfill his talent is to learn at the major league level and struggle like almost every other major leaguer.

          • Joey H. says:

Your comment was VERY vague. I read it 5 times and it didn’t register.

            • Yankee1010 says:

I’m not going to lose any sleep over it not registering with you. pc69 made a comment about AAA hitters being able to hit mistakes too. I said that they can’t hit them like major leaguers. If I needed to say that Hughes needs to pitch in the majors as the next step in his learning process, lesson learned. I didn’t realize it was such an exercise in mental gymnastics.

  6. Manimal says:

    I dream of a Michael-Kay-less YES Booth.

  7. RichYF says:

Someone explain to me what purpose Gardner serves if he isn’t stealing every time he’s on base?

Does he not read pitchers well?

Everyone in the stadium knows Crawford is going, yet he still steals all the time. Is Gardner not that fast? What am I missing here? Jeter has more steals than Gardner (granted in twice as many times on base).

Someone please explain this to me so I can stop ripping my hair out when someone GIDPs with him on base.

    • Drew says:

Gardner usually waits until the 5th pitch of an AB to run.

    • Joey H. says:

I absolutely agree. But did Tex see a ball or a called strike that AB?

      • RichYF says:

Nope. But if he’s running on that play, he’s not out at second. And if he IS out at second, it’s at least close.

I’m not that mad about that particular at-bat. It’s more of a general thing.

Waiting until the 5th pitch of an AB is fine if you’re not “one of the fastest players in baseball.” I’m not saying he has to run every single pitch, but he was supposed to be this “burst of energy” and “bring an element to the team that wasn’t there” and a lot of other crap. He was supposed to make up for his lack of on base skills with SPEED!!!!!!!

Maybe I’m overreacting, but this is definitely not the first time I’ve thought about this, or started a conversation about it.

    • Zack says:

Does he have the green light from Girardi? Or does he have to wait for a sign?

Having him on first gives Tex or Arod a hole on the right side

Lefty pitcher & Mauer behind the plate

    • Accent Shallow says:

I would tend to agree with you. Speed like that, he should be going practically all the time.

  8. Joey H. says:

Joe Torre can’t possibly be making the call to the pen. Tanyon Sturtze is about retired and Scott Proctor is ready to have TJ surgery.

  9. John says:

4 innings for 2 runs (hopefully no more but Albie is up)

    let’s do it!

  10. Gary says:

Why not let the Kid pitch the 6th, if he gets 3 outs its a qulity start… its also abt building some confidence right

  11. Manimal says:

    I have Derek Jeter’s Cologne…

  12. Mike Axisa says:

    Anthony Mason in the house.

  13. Joey H. says:

Former Knick? You mean Jet right? He’s HUGE.

  14. Dammit. Let’s go, Alphabet.

    Anthony Mason looks really old.

  15. Manimal says:

Something tells me the yanks gave away all the Luxury seats to all these Celebs.

  16. Stryker says:

does anyone else think the yanks need to start taking off the kids’ gloves when it comes to hughes?

i understand he’s only 22 and there’s no need to rush him, but at what point do they say “ok, he needs to start figuring himself out at the major league level”? just watch – when he goes back down to AAA when CMW returns he’ll be the same ol’ phil hughes. shouldn’t NOW be the time where he pitches through trouble so he learns for when he’s in the major league rotation full time next year – rather than doing all the figuring out then?

    /shrug

    • Accent Shallow says:

Hughes will get plenty more starts in the majors this year, even if he gets sent down when Wang returns. They’ll need someone to take Joba’s innings.

Besides, whose spot would he take if he stays up here? Or do you bump him to the pen?

I agree that he needs to learn how to get major league hitters out, but hopefully if he’s in AAA he’s working on, say, the change, or fastball command rather than buckling the knees of kids who can’t deal with a curve like that.

    • got a booboo says:

he needs to face major league hitters, not AAA hitters. unfortunately for him, the yankees are always in WIN NOW mode so every time he struggles he’s facing a demotion.

      • Lanny says:

They’ll take the kid gloves off when he’s 30. The kids never learned how to pitch out of trouble and out of jams. He’ll probably succeed when they trade him this summer for a reliever or a bat.

  17. Accent Shallow says:

Albaladejo makes Tolbert look silly there. Of course, he’s paid to make guys with a career MiL SLG of <.400 look silly.

  18. Charlie says:

Thanks john danks for fucking my fantasy team

  19. Manimal says:

hahahahaha “a more delicious type of K”

I thought he was talking about himself.

  20. pc69 says:

So V let me get this straight, because God forbid you don’t like something someone says (I know shocker). If I stated that Liriano looks average that means that I think he is no better than kei igawa. So I am a fucking idiot?

I don’t think that is what I said, but so that you will feel better and learn to love, TONIGHT, Liriano looks average with his command.

And the throw versus/pitch is NOT tired, Mussina circa 2008. Couldn’t throw but had to pitch. See also, Maddux, Glavine, Moyer, and on and on.

I think you are fairly intelligent when it comes to baseball but your sarcasm and needless comments towards others who you feel superior towards is as tired as the Yankees lack of hitting. Either ignore a comment or come back with facts. Not every entry is constructed via the World of Perfect Baseball statements. Sometimes it is pure emotion – oops I know that means I am a fan and irrational at times.

  21. The correct answer to the text poll is Joe Mauer. There is no opinion. It’s Joe Mauer.

    • Accent Shallow says:

I was hoping they’d have a clearly lesser option in there, like Jason Kubel or Glen Perkins.

  22. Yankee1010 says:

Nothing like scoring only one run on a guy throwing more balls than strikes.

  23. RichYF says:

Oh my how the mighty have fallen.

My buddy and I were just getting into the NBA Jam type calls for Swisher too. “Puts up a brick…It’s good!” “Jams it in!” “Ugly shot…It’s good!” “The nail in the coffin!”

Hopefully by June we’ll be bringing back a “Nothing but net” call at the very least..

  24. Accent Shallow says:

I get more excited for a Cano walk than a Cano single.

  25. Charlie says:

i hate that this inning is left to our 4th string catcher

  26. teix is the man says:

    FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCK

  27. Two walks in the inning, the last one on four pitches, and Melky swings at the first pitch. Awesome.

  28. Jack The Flipper says:

Cashman better start working the phone lines for a righty with some pop. Nady may come back but that is a serious injury. Jermaine Dye perhaps?

    • RichYF says:

      Two words: Jorge Vazquez

    • What? Why? That makes no sense. Where would Dye fit in? Unless Matsui starts to tank or gets injured, Jermaine Dye doesn’t make sense for the Yankees.

      • Jack The Flipper says:

Dye is right field. Swisher to the bench. Gardner back to the freakin minors.

        • Accent Shallow says:

Dye is really a DH these days. And he’s certainly not better than Swisher.

        • So you relegate a guy to the bench because of a slump? Please. Plus, any value Dye gives with his bat he immediately gives back with his awful fielding. I’m not giving up anything for Jermaine Dye if I’m Cashman.

  29. Brazilian Yankee says:

Melky should give up switch hitting, he sucks from the right side.

  30. Charlie says:

holy shit i just saw Mauer’s numbers. HE was out for a friggin month, is 0 for 3 today, and is hittin 424 w/ 14 rbis!!! Thats not fair

  31. Mauer just told Coke to go home and get his shinebox. That was a fucking shot.

  32. Accent Shallow says:

Did Coke just point as if the jack was a popup? Argh.

  33. Mike Axisa says:

Didn’t Mauer have back problems? I sure didn’t see them on that swing.

  34. Charlie says:

    and now he jacks one

  35. Reggie C. says:

I hope this team has 2 lucky swings left in this game. i dont see us manufacturing a run the ‘ol walk-single-single way.

  36. JoeSit.(ragman) says:

Absolutely awesome, I wonder if their are any professional hitters available

  37. Brazilian Yankee says:

So that’s how the heart of a lineup is supposed to hit! I thought they were supposed to make outs with RISP every single time.

  38. Charlie says:

this game is not lookin good at all. we had plenty of blown chances earler and if we don’t rally in the next 2 innings, its joe nathan time

  39. cjc says:

this is a rough one to watch

  40. Roger says:

    Bullpen is terrible

  41. Charlie says:

Im on gameday. WHY did that just happen

  42. Jack The Flipper says:

Bullpen is downright putrid. I do not know how Mo puts up with the smell.

  43. cjc says:

soooooooooooo how about that homefield advantage awesome

  44. Manimal says:

Oh look, another anti smoking commercial that uses pointless scare tactics.

  45. Charlie says:

it hurts me emotionally to see brett fuckin tomko in our pen pitching in a non blowout

  46. Charlie says:

with or without manny, the dodgers are still a damn good team

  47. Manimal says:

We don’t have ANY pinch hitters? My god.

    • Charlie says:

nope, thats what happens with a bench of (normally) kevin cash, brett gardner, and angel berroa

  48. JoeSit.(ragman) says:

I am pained to watch the middle of our line-up bat, especially with risp, bunch of girls swinging at any thing that is thrown and watching the ones suppose to drive. GRRRRR

  49. pc69 says:

well not the way to start off the home series.

  50. Tank the Frank says:

That was the first 95mph curveball I’ve ever seen.

I don’t even know why YES has a gun.

  51. cjc says:

his era is 8 and he as given up a run in 3 straight games so what will happen crain goes 123 sick its just sick

  52. Tank the Frank says:

    Watch out… Gardner’s a home run threat.

  53. cjc says:

    run brett run

  54. Drew says:

    WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  55. BRETT!!!!! THE GRIT FACTOR IS OFF THE CHARTS!!!!

  56. Charlie says:

Today, literally our entire lineup seems like a black hole.

  57. Accent Shallow says:

    2nd MLB home run!

  58. Mike Axisa says:

    Johnny Damon could’ve done that.

  59. Alex S says:

    THAAAAAAAAAT’S GRIT!

  60. got a booboo says:

    gardner: 2 HR
    ortiz: 0 HR

  61. Roger says:

How good would Gardner be if he could get on base more?

  62. Drew says:

    That was pretty cool.

  63. cjc says:

    nice throw

  64. teix is the man says:

    Gritt gardner bitches!

  65. Charlie says:

holy shit on gameday how did that happen

  66. A-ROD!

    (clap clap)

    A-ROD!

    (clap clap)

  67. Tony says:

And that’s another reason why I prefer the crappy fast guy to the crappy not fast guy in center.

  68. Tank the Frank says:

    Does Crain pitch around A-Rod?

  69. Mike Axisa says:

The good ol’ unintentional intentional walk to A-Rod.

  70. V says:

I’ll take 3 BBs, anyday, ARod.

  71. JobaWockeeZ says:

Blue Jays and the Twins, please grow a pair and stop walking A-Rod. Kthxbai.

  72. Charlie says:

    come on Sui

  73. Manimal says:

Arod’s OBP is crazy for someone hitting .1-something

  74. Tank the Frank says:

    Don’t do it Jose Mijares!

  75. Drew says:

    Dek Master Flex time.

  76. Accent Shallow says:

Matsui hit the go ahead jack yesterday against an LHP. More of the same, please.

  77. Joey H. says:

Oh and for the record the HR count with Ortiz and Gardner is +2 for Gardy.

  78. Drew says:

Yikes, DekMan used to go the other way, it seems like now he just tries to pull everything… It’s okay, pull one out!

  79. Charlie says:

no where near the plate there

  80. Tank the Frank says:

We need to get back in time about 3 weeks ago and grab THAT Nick Swisher for this AB.

  81. yankees=warriors says:

We need the April Swisher here!

  82. Manimal says:

    Swishaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, please get a hit.

  83. Quikksand says:

    come on swisher

  84. yankees=warriors says:

    Man, that looks really bad…

  85. Tank the Frank says:

Jesus Swisher has no chance… he’s lost.

  86. JobaWockeeZ says:

So has this ump been fair to both teams with his terrible strikezone or is it just the Yankees again?

  87. Manimal says:

    LET IT HIT YOU!

  88. Joey H. says:

Oh Xavier Nady, Where art thou?

  89. yankees=warriors says:

A wild pitch here would be nice.

  90. Let’s go, Swish!

  91. Jack The Flipper says:

Maybe someone can pitch underhand to Swisher for him to get a hit.
Ozzie was right about this guy.

  92. Manimal says:

    God damn.

  93. Stryker says:

oh how i wish that was April-Swisher at bat.

  94. cjc says:

one time just one fucking time get a hit

  95. Accent Shallow says:

    Oy vey.

  96. Drew says:

Oh Nick.. Why did you tease us? Where have you gone?

  97. Charlie says:

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKK. 21 fucking men left on base and only 2 damn runs= Suck

  98. Tank the Frank says:

The fact that they kept in the lefty to face Swisher from the right side shows you how bad he’s swinging the bat.

    • Mike Axisa says:

That doesn’t make sense. I think they left the lefty in because they knew a) it’s impossible to matchup against a switch hitter, and b) Robbie Cano, a lefty hitter, was due up after Swisher.

      • Tank the Frank says:

Duh. Stupid thinking on my part. What you said makes way more sense. I’m letting my pessimism get the better of me.

  99. pc69 says:

    Another wasted opportunity.

  100. VO says:

I think it is safe to say an inside the park homerun is better then a steal of home.

  101. yankees=warriors says:

At least Gardner woke me up with the inside the parker!

  102. Joey H. says:

Disclaimer: The use of the word “Queer” isn’t meant to insult and actually doesn’t even refer to homosexuals in the following statement. Because they’d be ashamed to be mentioned in the same sentence with this snarky dope.

Michael Kay is such a queer. I’m tired of his idiotic commentary. And to think, at one point I defended him.

  103. Joey H. says:

    Who the hell is pitching?!!11?!!?111

  104. JobaWockeeZ says:

Yeah I’m even getting pissed with our lack of ability to hit pitchers we should hit and hit with runners in scoring position.

  105. pc69 says:

So in watching this game, one thing is becoming apparent, it is not the stadium’s design that is responsible for all the home runs.

  106. Tank the Frank says:

.321, .333, .571, .905 – That’s the team line with the bases loaded. Hard to believe. Although overall with RISP is much worse.
    .249, .348, .438, .785

  107. Manimal says:

    Ortiz, Elsbury, Pedroia = Gardner

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

Of course not. Gardner is a Yankee therefore only plays for the money and therefore does not have grit. And watch ESPN not talk about his inside the park homerun while they still jizz their pants about the Ellesbury stealing home play.

  108. Drew says:

I love it. Let’s see some passion.

  109. yankees=warriors says:

    A little fire is good.
    And that WAS dangerous.

  110. Manimal says:

This game is OOZING a comeback

  111. E. Aron says:

8 walks alone scores the 2 runs. where is this $120M offense? hip hip jorge!

  112. pc69 says:

    drill him.

  113. JobaWockeeZ says:

If we lost Teix I’d kill myself.
The Twins are really starting to piss me off with their small ball play today.

  114. Drew says:

Teix will be even easier to root for when he starts hitting!

  115. JoeSit.(ragman) says:

If we cannot get fired up after the play at first by the twinkees then we will not get it done—-again

  116. Manimal says:

I love love LOVE Girardi going straight after Gardenhire

  117. Drew says:

Wow, YES cuts back to the game after a pitch has been thrown. Why does YES suck?

  118. Joey H. says:

He gets DRILLED next time if I am Girardi. Screw that. In fact hot someone in the eye. I don’t care. I am tired of dirty ball players. I want a Joba heater to hit someone right in the helmet to get the message across.

  119. thrylos98 says:

    tex needs to grow up..,

  120. Tank the Frank says:

Gomez is known for being a hothead. He missed playing time last season because of it if I’m not mistaken. It’s a good idea to get under his skin.

  121. yankees=warriors says:

I think a inside the park HR will fire up the kid more than a normal one.

  122. Luthien says:

So what happened at first with Gomez? And why are people calling for someone to get hit? Just wondering seeing as the game is blacked out where I am, in Iowa, even though nobody in Iowa plays Twins games.

    • Manimal says:

Gomez was out of the baseline and was very, VERY close to Tex. This was teh second time it happened and Texiera barked at him and benches sorta cleared. Girardi was yelling at Gardenhire.

    • Tom Zig says:

I dont know what happened either, i asked a couple posts ago.

  123. yankees=warriors says:

If they don’t tie it this inning, should Mo pitch the 9th?

  124. Accent Shallow says:

Where the hell was strike 2?

  125. Joey H. says:

Michael Kay is a failure at life.

  126. pc69 says:

Wow, 8 walks and ZERO runs with RISP. The decline of the dollar has really hit new heights.

  127. MattG says:

    Ben, if you’re still here:

“That’s a load of shit, Matt. The ball might have beaten him but if the tag didn’t, then he’s safe. That’s how baseball works.”

That’s not how baseball works. It has never worked that way. If the ball beats you, its one of two things: either you so obviously avoided the tag that the guy in Uecker’s seats knows your safe, or you’re out. It’s been that way forever, and just because we can have instant replay and look closer does not mean we have to.

As long as the rules are equal for both teams, we can move on.

And that is a great example of why you don’t need replay–you couldn’t even tell with the replay if he was safe or out. Who needs a delay to learn nothing?

  128. cjc says:

hey a pop up something new and different

  129. Quikksand says:

    show some fight yankees

  130. Drew says:

    Melky is now spelt M.O.N.E.Y.

  131. Accent Shallow says:

Ah, Melky. Still swinging at bad pitches.

Base hits are base hits, though.

  132. Tank the Frank says:

Was Mo just rapping to himself?

  133. cjc says:

    wow another pop up

  134. cjc says:

it would be a real shame if Jeter screwed everything up by not popping out

  135. yankees=warriors says:

Man, with all that’s happened in this game, I really want us to win it!

  136. BigBlueAL says:

WOW really nobody to pinch-hit for Cash???? Id rather have had Berroa hit there than freakin Kevin Cash.

  137. How much longer can we go without a pinch hitter? Seriously.

  138. Tank the Frank says:

Meat of the order, including a fired up Tex, should be up against Nathan 2 runs down. I really don’t like our chances… but a comeback would be very fitting in this game.

  139. got a booboo says:

    love the pop ups.

  140. cjc says:

thank god nice job Jeter this team is awesome just awesome
