Yeah, it’s like they don’t realize that not only is JD Drew 33, but Kevin Youkilis is frickin’ older than Mark Teixeira when they are comparing the ages of the respective teams of those players.
Morgan is good when he takes you inside the game. Puts you in the shoes of the hitter/fielder and shows you the little things that go on at the big league level.
But if you want him to be up on your team and know what he’s talking about, that’s just not happening. That doesn;t bother me though. I dont expect national guys to know my team like I do. They can’t be expected to watch every team every day, so I don’t let those off base statements he makes bother me. Just call a good game and don’t intrude too much like McCarver and I’ll be happy.
I actually take the OPPOSITE approach. When any national broadcaster actually gets some detail about my team RIGHT, I consider it to be gravy.
I think Pena might be on this team for a long time. The Yankees have not had a glove like that off the bench in a while. With an aging left side of the infield, he is a good fit.
THE YANKEES HAD ALL-WORLD HALL OF FAME ALL-STARS ON THE BENCH BUT CASHMAN SUCKS AND IS TERRIBLE AND CAN’T EVEN SIGN A SINGLE ALL-STAR TO SIT ON THE BENCH LIKE THE GOOD OLD DAYS, NO STEROIDS WERE INVOLVED LEAVE THE MEMORIES ALONE
I L-O-V-E Cervelli as the backup catcher. The prevailing thought on Frankie is that the glove is there, the bat isn’t. That’s fine for a MLB backup.
Plus he adds roster flexibility because of his speed at his position, which is rare. Think about it, you could pinch run him for Posada late in games AND then put him in for defensive purposes. No burning two bench players late in games, no need for a 3rd catcher. That’s a nice little edge for a manager to have.
The last time Andy gave up less hits than IP was 2005 w/ HOU. I think he’s only done that 3 times in his career. Andy gives up hits, but he gives you innings, throws strikes, works fast, gets out of jams… all that stuff.
You could make the argument that the MLB team is better off with Alby than it is with Veras right now. But to lose a player completely opens you up to getting caught with your pants down if someone gets hurt. So I think they’ll demote someone w/options, either Alby or Edwar.
Just looking at players with options and ways to not lose Veras. I think Tomko has to be on the MLB roster after May or we lose him as well. Aceves is too valuable to send down.
Nah, like I told the artist, I hate Veras, but 94-95 with a sick slider is hard to come by. He’s Bruney before he came to NY. We can only hope it clicks for him like it did for Bruney. Releasing him is too risky.
Morneau’s a terrific player, and so is Mauer. But Mauer hasn’t hit for much pop before this year. Tex has, and Alex is the best player of the 4 of them.
Off topic, but I thought of you guys this past weekend. I was working at an NCAA Softball Regional, and in a three-game series there must have been about 10 sac bunts between the two teams.
In softball, runs are at such a premium, its automatic. You get on, next one bunts, no matter the position in the lineup or anything.
Three hole, four hole hitter, you are laying it down. I kept thinking to myself, “Man, the RAB crowd would have a heart attack here. They are giving away outs left and right!”
The funny thing is, this is the first year that Questech (or whatver it’s called now) is in every ballpark. Doesn’t seem to be working very well. No sense of a zone from anybody. I don’t expect all zones to be the same, but at least keep it consistent during a single game
If I were the manager, and a reliever walked the first guy he faced, I’d immediately pull him, and make him run a lap around the field to the crowd’s boos.
Okay, we get that you don’t like Veras, but does everyone really need to turn into a whiny little bitch whenever he comes into a game? It’s getting old.
Plus, Girardi has an irrational love affair with Veras. I don’t think there is anything wrong with hating Veras and it’s only made worse by Girardi going to him in way too many spots where it’s bound to blow up.
I guess that was a “show me what you’re made of” call by Girardi. That’s all I can figure. If that’s the case, while I’m glad Veras got out of it, I can’t help but hope that Joe doesn’t take too much out of it. The last thing we need is growing confidence in Veras by the mgr.
Anybody have a Blackberry Storm? Or Verizon cell phone service?
I’m thinking of getting one. Actually, two. Verizon is running a 2-1 deal selling the phone(s) for $199 with a 2 year plan. I’m using a gazillion year old Blackberry, so anything is an upgrade for me. Mainly want it for phone calls, check e-mail and web browsing.
Stay away. I Have the storm. Its very glitchy and Ive already been though 2 of them. The email/typing is not true to blackberry . My sister has the ATT Blackberry Bold and that thing is just solid and amazing

I’m in Accounting night class right now…BLAH
Financial/Managerial/Corporational?
Accounting for Reporting and Control – Financial…it’s the worst
Ya, just took that this past semester.
Hated it.
How’d you do? I just started last Monday. Doesn’t help that my teacher can’t speak English either…
He failed.
“Ouch, my pride.”
More deflated than Denard Span’s after that nice pick by Pena, huh?
I was, but then your mother came over.
http://tinyurl.com/orcsa3
ietc.
B-
The beginning is very easy, then it can get tough after midterms, at least for me it did.
I’m a bum when it comes to classes like that though, don’t put in enough effort.
Make sure you understand it though, doesn’t help you’re on game threads whil in classs
Yeah no shit. But, like I said, I can’t understand what he’s saying anyways. I have the slides and textbook…I’ll just guide myself through it…
Hehe, picking up my cap and gown tomorrow, Accounting degree in the books, Cha-Ching.
Help a brotha out. And congratulations by the way…where’d you go?
Thanks, Monmouth University down in Jerz.
Put in the work, son!
NEVER!
I understand the SIPC is hiring these days.
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/.....ktRa_cxvn8
nice i just graduated last sunday with my accounting degree. working on a masters now.
http://instantcrickets.com/
http://sadtrombone.com/
Crushed that.
Damn Cuddyer CRUSHED that pitch.
Shiiiiiiit
Get this man some HGH!!1! Stat!!!
Why is Punto sliding on every close play at first? God damn fool.
It’s called grit, Jamal.
FRANKIE!!!!
Cisco!!!!
Ramiro!!!!
Eat it, jackass.
SIT DOWN NICK PUNTO.
Pasta Fagiole!
Pena…wow
I thought the Yanks weren’t allowed to play defense?
No, its just that some people look at this team and only see 4 aging players.
Yeah, it’s like they don’t realize that not only is JD Drew 33, but Kevin Youkilis is frickin’ older than Mark Teixeira when they are comparing the ages of the respective teams of those players.
Avg age of Yankee roster 28.3
Avg age of Red Sox roster 28.4
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/.....r?team=bos
But were old, and they’re not.
It’s called yankee hating.
DING DING DING!
The Yanks are old and brittle.
Holy crap we’re playing some D. I am falling in love with Pena in the infield.
Holy shit, defense.
Holy defense, Batman.
Pfft, Mike Lowell makes that play while drinking espresso.
What a terrible defensive inning, it’s really a problem with these aging Yankee teams…
Mierda! What a play.
how good is our team right now?
I don’t know, what team do you own?
when they win, it’s “we”
when we lose, it’s “they”
Haha, nice inversion they and we, we and they, i like it…and im just being a jerk, no worries
?
Easy there, champ. It’s not like he said, “How good are we right now?”
I love when people that aren’t fans scoff at the idea of saying “my/our team.”
wtf Steve Phillips gets his own BBTN commercial?
Nobody wants to be in the same commercial as Steve Phillips.
On Gameday it says “Denard Span grounds out ‘softly’ to Ramiro Pena”. How good could it have been then? lol
High chopper, Pena barehanded, got Span by half a step.
COMPUTERS CANT TELL YOU EVERYTHING NERD SOME OF US WATCH THE GAME WITH OUR OWN EYES.
HAHA, IETC.
Yawn…
The fact that it was softly hit should tell you that it took a better-than-average play to get a guy with Denard Span’s speed.
Chris Berman comparing Cervelli to John Belushi. Heh.
Let’s tack some on here.
UGGGGH Chris Berman and Orel Hersheiser are HORRIBLE. Why is Berman calling ANY games?
Have you considered the Miller/Morgan/Phillips three-headed monster alternative? This is mostly harmless.
Morgan occasionally says something halfway intelligent, Berman adds absolutely nothing to the analysis of any game.
I actually take the OPPOSITE approach. When any national broadcaster actually gets some detail about my team RIGHT, I consider it to be gravy.
Yea, he’s terrible and thinks he’s hilarious and is excruciating to listen to.
Dude, I thought Cervelli was a mendoza line hitter in AA?
HAHAHAHA the sawx aren’t even mentioned in the Toyota text poll.
How many Web-gems does Pena have? How many should he have?
If Ron Washington had a brain, then it should be Josh Hamilton and Ian Kinsler for that Rangers option.
Best 3 and 4 hitters in the AL has to be Tex and A-Rod no?
Thanks, Cap’n.
Oh, Captain.
Should be hitting 9th to avoid those DPs
Damnit Jeter
(this is why he’s batting lead off btw, because he likes to do that)
Jeter decided it was too long for him not to hit in a DP.
The 9 hole hitter had been an automatic out, so Jeter hasn’t had his normal opportunities.
Poor Giambino… hittin .204
Time for a new mustache.
..or golden nut sombrero.
What Maddon did yesterday is not nearly as bad as allowing Howell to hit in the WS.
I think Pena might be on this team for a long time. The Yankees have not had a glove like that off the bench in a while. With an aging left side of the infield, he is a good fit.
Noooooo!
This team should have Jose Reyes on the bench.

No burning two bench players late in games, no need for a 3rd catcher. That’s a nice little edge for a manager to have.
Cervelli has definitely done about all he can to win the back-up spot for next year.
LOL Orel Hershiser is not impressed by Berman’s humor.
David Cone: “Did you see the sun come up?”
Ken Singleton: “Yeah.”
Cone: “Heh, so did me and Boomer.”
Awesome.
Ken Singleton: “Really? So how’s your ass, David?”
Cone: “Ugh, don’t ask.”
Lol, Artist.
I didn’t want to go there, but that story was way too homoerotic to let slide.
I’d be dead if I tried to party with coney and boomer.
Man Weeks finally puts it together and bam
Yes please bunt Joe Mauer.
OMG, please, please do that shit again.
Seriously, Joe? Come on, you’re better than that.
Phew.
Mauer flashing that warning track power
The camera work by YES there was awful. I thought it was a HR the way they filmed that.
Jeez – la – weez
Morneau is locked in.
Son of a bitch is locked up till 2013.
http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.c.....ns_17.html
What kind of an IDIOT is his agent?
Well, he did get $80M. Hard to turn that down.
I would have thought go for DP, but I get the safe play.
All he carees about is his ERA. Fucking selfish Yankees.
Uh, why not go for two? Instinct took over?
They are tattooing Andy. 9 hits in 4.2 so far. Hopefully he can limit the damage.
Pitching to the score!
The last time Andy gave up less hits than IP was 2005 w/ HOU. I think he’s only done that 3 times in his career. Andy gives up hits, but he gives you innings, throws strikes, works fast, gets out of jams… all that stuff.
?
He allowed fewer hits than IP in his first two starts this year, and 11 times last year.
I think he means on a yearly basis.
Oh, duh. That makes sense.
OK, we kinda need some insurance runs, I’m not liking Pettitte’s luck past the sixth inning.
Agreed. I don’t think Mo’s available tonight, and even if he is, it would be nice to give the guy a day off. He’s pitched in what, 5 of the last 6?
Andy only 80 pitches. I don’t know if I’m happy he’s back for next inning or not. He’s awfully scary today.
You think we see some people pitch for their jobs tonight with Bruney coming back?
I doubt it. Who are you talking about? Edwar? We obviously don’t want to release/dump Veras, rightfully so btw.
I think they’ll take the safest route and send down somebody with options, like Alby.
But if they’re going to DFA someone, my guess is Veras. And I won’t miss him one bit, golden arm or not.
Hey, I hate Veras, it just sucks we can’t send him down. I do agree with you though.
You could make the argument that the MLB team is better off with Alby than it is with Veras right now. But to lose a player completely opens you up to getting caught with your pants down if someone gets hurt. So I think they’ll demote someone w/options, either Alby or Edwar.
Albaladejo has a 0.00 ERA this month and has allowed just one inherited runner to score. Why is there talk of sending him down?
Just looking at players with options and ways to not lose Veras. I think Tomko has to be on the MLB roster after May or we lose him as well. Aceves is too valuable to send down.
Who’s your suggestion, Edwar? I can live w/that.
Trying to make room for Brune.
Rightfully? Really? Would it be that hard to find another guy who throws hard but can’t throw strikes? Kevin Whelan can do that.
Nah, like I told the artist, I hate Veras, but 94-95 with a sick slider is hard to come by. He’s Bruney before he came to NY. We can only hope it clicks for him like it did for Bruney. Releasing him is too risky.
Bingo. Bruney was a horrendous walk machine when he got here, too. Its tough to give up on arms like that.
He’s much older than Bruney was. 5 years is a huge age gap, especially when talking about a guy who has had one good half season.
Wait, Veras is what, 27? Bruney wasn’t 22 when he came here bro.
Veras is in his age 28 season. Bruney came here in his age 24. I remembered that incorrectly, sorry. Off by one year. The point still holds.
Better 3, 4:
Tex, A-lex
or
Mauer, Morneau
(when fully healthy)
Tex and Alex.
I mean please, is this even a question?
Morneau’s a terrific player, and so is Mauer. But Mauer hasn’t hit for much pop before this year. Tex has, and Alex is the best player of the 4 of them.
Relax man. It’s just a question? They are 2 great players. Sorry to insult you, your majesty.
You’re WAYYY too sensitive, bro.
You’re the one who felt it necessary to make a simple question a big deal. “is this a question?” Obviously, yes, it was a question. better?
Best player in the game plus a guaranteed 30hr year. Easy.
I agree. just curious if anyone thought differently. They do look like a good back to back.
More than good. However, any combination of a guy like Al or Pujols and a solid 400obp and 30 hr guy will always win out.
Could you image, Pujols and Alex back to back…that would be uncomprehending.
lol, to be honest, no. Even Manny and Al.
Tex, and Alex
No one is in the Audi club.
I love how the zoom into the empty Audi’s club when ever they promote it.
Chris Berman flashing some proper French pronounciation.
“I wish baseball had stayed in Montréal.”
I bet you do, Chris, that’d be twice the opportunities to call games in Canada and have an opportunity to pick up some deux deux deuxs.
The yankees wouldnt play in Montreal all that often.
Yea, but Berman doesn’t do Yankee games, he does the ESPN games on occasion.
fail on my part.
Pasta diving Peña?
Nick Punto, bunt FAIL.
Nick Punto makes things happen.
Keep bunting Pu
ntoPasta jumping Jeter?
Jeter was off by 5 feet.
Jeter’s gotta go back on that.
11 hits in 5 2/3. Awesome.
What a crap run.
I would like some insurance runs just to feel a little safer.
Too greedy?
Nah.
That was an odd looking jump. Really too bad the pick off didn’t work. Inching back in, we need some runs.
This feels like its going to be a stressful game.
the wins aren’t going down with out a fight. I think the offense comes through here to re establish the momemntum
Twins**
We’d better score another one soon, I’m getting worried…
Heh, remember when Luis Ayala was attempting to close out games for the 2008 Mets during the stretch run? Good times, good times.
IETC
This looks promising
WTF where was cuddyer playing?
Something brewing here!
Frankie I’m loving you right now bro.
Nice bunt by Cervelli. I can live with that one.
That called strike three, not so much.
I think we’ve bunted successfully more times in this series than we did all of last year.
derek owes andy 1 run
remember that empty feeling you got when the bottom of the order would come up?
it’s slowly starting to fade…
(knock on wood)
Gotta capitalize on this.
I think that slump can offically be spelled S-W-I-S-H-E-R
Horrible call. In the damn LH batter’s box.
You know it’s bad when The Captain complains.
Awful call. What is the deal with the umps this year.
Oh. man. That foul.
Strike 3 to Jeter would have hit Damon. Great stuff there, Hirschbeck.
Terrible…
I hate human HP umpires.
who pitches the 7th?
Pettite, he only threw 90
Plus the lefties are due up.
just walk them both
ugh
Looks like me playing MLB The Show 09. Leaving LOBs everywhere.
With the twins scoring in the top of that inning, putting one on the board in the bottom would have been huge. Too bad.
wow, Jeter and Damon both got hosed there
The Yanks are going to blow this game. They took the night off after the first inning and are letting the bullpen scrubs mow them down.
With the way last year went, I know why you would feel that way.
Right little ray of sunshine, aren’t you?
Interesting zone, Hirschbeck. Why be confined by the width of the plate?
ugh
http://riveraveblues.com/2009/.....ent-389336
Hirschbeck is in love with his punch-out call. He isn’t even watching the pitches all the way to the glove.
He is like Leslie Nielson in the Naked Gun.
Just not as charming.
Enrico Pallazo?
Man that was not fun
MLB. Must. Do. Something. About. The. Umpiring.
Amen brother. I’d prefer fuckin sharks with laser beams.
That’s my line! I was saving it for when Bruney gets back.
The funny thing is, this is the first year that Questech (or whatver it’s called now) is in every ballpark. Doesn’t seem to be working very well. No sense of a zone from anybody. I don’t expect all zones to be the same, but at least keep it consistent during a single game
Or, if it hits the paint, call a fucking ball!!!
Well all zones should be as close to similar as possible, i mean its written into the rule book what the zone is. no need for interpretation.
I can has a standardized, well-enforced strike zone?
More likely to get that than an out from Morneau in this series.
Jesus Titty Fucking Christ.
yes?
ICWUDT
That was a crazy good piece of hitting by Morneau.
Fuckin Morneau is wearing us out.
If he’s signed till 2013, then lets just buy the Twins and be done with it.
I’d rather buy the entire Mexican league.
PENA’S FOR EVERYBODY!!!
+Mexican gangsters
Hahahhahahahah!
lmfao, good one
Does Andy face Cuddyer?
Edwar or Veras…….not the best choices, but that’s what they have.
Is Bruney available?
tomorrow, nvm.
Cmon Andy its gut check time baby.
He had a gut check last inning.
Heh, true.
Huge punchout there. One more to go Andy.
Don’t do it Kubel.
come on andy!
oh fuck
Not Veras!!!!! WHyyyyyyyyy
maybe joe wants to keep the comeback walk off streak alive….
Girardi bet on the Twins tonight.
lmao….here we go
Pettitte right now is thinking, Jesus, you’re going to bring in Veras? Joe, why don’t I just put the ball on a tee while I walk off the mound?
Joe would respond with, actually, Andy, Jose will probably walk the first guy and THEN give up the bomb.
IETC.
He’s well on his way …
God, I hate Veras.
This really wasn’t a great start by Andy; definitely doesn’t warrant the standing o.
Veras = booze time
That’s just one out short of a good outing there.
Well, Veras is needed to give up the lead so the new policy of walk-off only can be used.
Ugh.
Veras is up every day (though he didn’t come in yesterday).
Can’t understand Girardi’s obsession with him!
Hey if Veras blows it maybe we got another shot at a walk off
Ugh, Kenny? Allowing 3 baserunners and getting an out, and letting the next guy clean up your mess is TECHNICALLY a scoreless appearance… but…
Exactly my thoughts…
Great, another walk I guess.
please throw strikes. please
pretty please with chicas on top?
lol at 2-0, what else can I do but laugh?
3-0
THROW A STRIKE GODDAMNIT
THROW STRIKES YOU FUCKING WASTE OF FLESH!
When some out out “indefinitely” with an injury, what does that mean?
ugh veras
It’s unsure when he’ll return.
thanks man
I need a drink. Really really badly.
Good old Veras throwing balls.
TEH AWESOMENESS
Veras fucking sucks
Shocker.
Did Veras walk the 1st guy he faced? There’s no way he did that, right? Not Veras. He never does that.
DFA him please
I seriously hate veras with a passion.
If I were the manager, and a reliever walked the first guy he faced, I’d immediately pull him, and make him run a lap around the field to the crowd’s boos.
Girardi’s tried something like that but 90% of RAB said he overmanaged.
What the fuck is Eiland going to say to him. Veras will say fuck you Gringo.
Okay, we get that you don’t like Veras, but does everyone really need to turn into a whiny little bitch whenever he comes into a game? It’s getting old.
Thank you.
Sorry dude, I don’t like losing games. I have 0 confidence in Veras. Maybe it’s my bad, but I’m no pessimist.
+8293681853691249708329748629317081397286203715.2
If he threw strikes, he would go a long way to solving the problem. And he’s not going to do it.
Plus, Girardi has an irrational love affair with Veras. I don’t think there is anything wrong with hating Veras and it’s only made worse by Girardi going to him in way too many spots where it’s bound to blow up.
Going to school in Michigan, I don’t get to watch Yankees games on TV often.
So when I do, and I see Veras come in and promptly serve up 5-pitch walk to load the bases isn’t the most soothing experience.
Yes. We do. Sorry.
I cry like a woman.
I enjoy it actually. Its quite funny…
BTW, did you think he wouldn’t walk someone? Did you think he’d get the job done? Hoping and expecting are two different things.
Not even his mother thought he would get the job done. And Gomez swinging at the 1st pitch after a 5 pitch walk certainly made it easier.
Thank GOD!!!
Jose Veras: Blind squirrel, nut, etc.
Veras lives to see another day.
Does Veras remind anyone of another fine fellow named Kyle Farnsworth?
Just without the natural talent.
Ehh, Farnsworth didnt look like his arm was going to fall of everytime he threw.
Farnsworth could throw strikes.
JOSE WE ALL BELIEVE IN YOU!!!!!! DON”T LISTEN TO THE PREVIOUS 75 COMMENTS
Veras, I knew he had em all the way.
thank mo
Not for nothing, but Carlos Gomez is one stupid fuck. Swinging at the first pitch after a five-pitch walk? Really, asshole?
Idk how the Mets got away with that trade for Johan. It’s mind boggling
Agreed. The Twins got nothing for him.
he is a serious asshole
Gomez should be benched for swinging at the 1st pitch like that. But hey I aint complaining!!
Hell YES. That’ll do.
Mainly want it for phone calls, check e-mail and web browsing.
my gf has it, its cool and all but her screen freezes a lot. kind of a hassle, but who knows if thats common or not.
I have Verizon and I like it. No BB, though.
Stay away. I Have the storm. Its very glitchy and Ive already been though 2 of them. The email/typing is not true to blackberry . My sister has the ATT Blackberry Bold and that thing is just solid and amazing
I don’t use it for business e-mail, just occasionally to check my personal box. How’s the web browser?
wait for the new one (storm 2). coming out in the fall. gets rid of the stupid click screen.
click screen?
I have the storm and uploaded the old firmware to it….seen lots of less problems, but it is glitchy…
how many days until bruney?
Manana
tomorrow
can we wait until tomorrow to play the 8th inning?
Quick trade Veras now while his value is high
Oh that gritty Scott Podsednik.
Sweet Mo, that was awesome!
<3333
Damn Tex!!!!
Back to BAck again?
Nice, guess it’s safe to say Tex is REALLY back!
needed that.
BOOM
Why would he bring him in with runners on?
MONSTER JAM!
HE’S ON FIRE
WOOOO-HOOOOOOOO!!!!!
BOTH SIDES OF THE PLATE!
Thank you, Tex. And Tex should thank ARod. Completely different hitter.
Band box.
… And “BOOM” goes the dynamite.
god help the american league when a-rod heats up
a Tex Message!
LOL!
Much needed
now A-Rod can go back to back again so John Kruk has to suffer through yankee highlights tonight.
This ump is abhorrent.
Are you kidding me, Hirshbeck? That second strike was definitely inside.
Well, there goes any chance of buying low on Teix
Yeah, that fantasy ship has pretty much sailed.
Mike A., when Veras comes in, or when Farnsy came in, what were you expecting, greatness? Let’s be reasonable. There is a reason why many of us cringe when Veras comes in.
His 6+ ERA is sexii
O AN HE SEXY
Veras, Spanish for Farnsy
Second time tonight Swisher’s hit a freakin’ rocket right at someone.
Swisher hitting it hard, but can’t buy a hit
Singleton is too modest. The man was a helluva hitter.
+1. Cray underrated.
ah swish cant catch a break he laced that one
Nick is getting some good swings in.
i may bench swish on my fantasy team. not really producing.
How many HR’s for Tex this year??
I think more than 35 for sure possibly 40
i called for a sweep of the homestand
Swish is getting no love right now. I’m encouraged though b/c he seems to be swinging better and making better contact…instead of just whiffing.
