What is the Yankees record in Friday games? I remember two Friday games with late game heroics. Posada and Melky.

  • Drew

4 more innings. Heart of the lineup due up for us. C’mon AJ.

    • http://rbiradio.blogspot.com/ Joey H.

Chip away little by little then explode. It’s going to count on AJ to limit further damage.

  • Accent Shallow

Myers had been giving up 2.2 HR/9 until this game. Hopefully that guy shows up in the 6th.

    • http://rbiradio.blogspot.com/ Joey H.

Bound to. He can’t be baffling the Yankees with these meat balls. I mean curve balls.

  • Michael KaySucks

Why is Cash in the lineup?

    • Bryan

Idk, it seems like Cervelli can call a good game, plus he can hit better than cash.

      • MichaelKaySucks

Exactly! Cervelli looks better than Molina if you ask me plus he has some fire.

  • Drew

Good to see Wanger, can’t wait to see him in the dugout.

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Wow. There were people in the Audi club.

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Homeless. The Yanks are paying them to stand there.

You can’t imagine the stench in there right now.

      • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

        Like an obese man’s twosie.

  • pc69

Yankees need 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th to make this interesting. If not, streak ends at 9 and they have to start a new one tomorrow. Either way, still been a great home stand and 2 of 3 is all we need from this series = 9-1 on the homestand.

  • Dave

Silver lining is seeing what Wang has tonight.

    • Drew

Or…. Silver lining, winning the game.

  • Drew

Hell yeah Johnny. Fuck that shit.

  • Accent Shallow

How do you get doubled up by Johnny Damon?

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

    Johnny with the cannon!

  • http://rbiradio.blogspot.com/ Joey H.

Ha 3-3 with a base running FAIL!

  • John

    from the last thread:

    Drew says:
    May 22nd, 2009 at 8:31 pm
Get over it dude. Go to a phillies blog.

WTF? what do you mean? I still like AJ and support him, I know he’s pretty good. I’m just asking a question which was half-satirical…learn to understand and don’t be quick to such reactions dude

    • Drew

Have you read some of your own comments dude?
Did you not call a Howard HR? Is that supporting AJ? lol

      • John

no, I honestly thought a HR was coming and it did one batter later, does not mean I don’t support him. I still had faith in AJ though, but for some reason I simply had a feeling about a HR. That’s all. Im not pshysic or anything but AJ has had innings where he blows up and today that “inning” came in parts of innings.

      • http://justinyates.wordpress.com justin

this just in…being a yankees fan means not acknowledging the talents of opposing players including but not limited to calling home runs…being a yankees fan also means not acknowledging the weaknesses of yankees’ players including but not limited to their propensity for surrendering the long ball…relax dude

  • Dave

Wow, its not like the Phillies are playing flawless ball

  • yankees=warriors

When’s the last time Meyers pitched a shutout?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

      It’s Myers.

      • yankees=warriors

        Oh, sorry, got it.

Dear John Flaherty and Michael Kay:

No one gives a shit about what colleges you went to. Shut up about it.

    • V

They’re the most annoying two announcers on YES.

      Singleton+Cone ftw.

        Love those two so much.

      • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

        Thank you.

      • thurdonpaul

        paulie is good too

    • Accent Shallow

Ordinarily, recent ex-players make solid to excellent broadcasters. Flaherty is a pretty notable exception to that; he really only brings something to the table when talking about catcher defense.

      • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Plus, its not like he’s a Yankee with a huge pedigree.

He won nothing while he was here, and the most notable thing he’s remembered for is yelling at Randy Johnson.

  • Drew

I can’t stand when the team is losing and our broadcasters are ten times more happy then me. I’m just asking for a little empathy from them.

    • Drew

      than*

    • http://justinyates.wordpress.com justin

to give sterling some credit…not that he deserves any…he never sugar coats the yankees when they play like crap

  • V

    FINALLY!!!

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    A-Rod came to play.

  • Accent Shallow

    Way to go, Alex! Woo!

  • MichaelKaySucks

    A-Rod!!!

  • BigBlueAL

WOW a one-handed HR by Arod!!

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

He seriously looked like he barely swung at that and it got out. The man is immensely strong.

      • John

unbelievable bat speed and swing that produces backspin that scouts love.

  • SouthernYankeeFan

bye bye shutout….thank god hopefully that will get em going

    • yankees=warriors

      My thoughts as well!

  • yankees=warriors

Flash is really trying his best to kiss Myers’ ass, huh?

  • Drew

Swisher Robbie Melky. Belly to belly to belly? Why not!?

  • V

    Wang coming in.

  • woodchuuk

suzyn says aj had. 5 era last year.

  • Drew

Ugh.. not even 100 pitches for AJ.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Eh, Wang needs the work, and AJ’s thrown a ton of pitches in his last few starts.

  • yankees=warriors

Hope we get the good sinker…

  • Drew

    first sinker looks good.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

You know what I think it is? The Curse of Number 34. After Stottlemyre, Jaret Wright wore it, then Sean Henn, then Phil Hughes, now AJ.

    • John

you may be onto something there…

Shaq’s the only one to ever be successful in 34

      • Whitey14

Hello, my name is David Ortiz and although I’ve stunk it up for the last season and half, I did average about 40 bombs and a 1.000 OPS+ from 2003 to 2007, while helping my club win two World Series titles. By the way, I wore #34 ;-)

Hello, my name is Walter Payton. I rushed for 16,726 yards and scored 125 touchdowns. I retired as the NFL’s all time leading rusher and leader in overall yards gained from scrimmage. I was elected to the Football Hall of Fame in 1993. By the way, I wore #34 ;-)

Earl Campbell, Charles Barkley and Nolan Ryan also say hello ;-)

Hopefully I put enough winks in there to convey the humor that was intended.

  • BigBlueAL

OMG 23 hits in 6 innings!!!! Now that puts his horribleness in perspective.

  • yankees=warriors

    That’s a start.

  • BigBlueAL

Damn YES gun has Wang at 94 mph. Looking good so far.

    • BigBlueAL

      I take that back….

  • woodchuuk

    a, sorry

  • Drew

He doesn’t throw 95 any more so.. Really Michael? so that 94 wasn’t enough for ya?

  • Bryan

well….at least the sinker is working, is Wang back?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

I’ll need to see him retire more than one batter to tell you.

    • Bryan

hmmm, i think he needs more work.

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

That’s a start. Let’s go, CMW! Boost that trade value for ’10!

    (I keed, I keed…kind of)

  • Accent Shallow

    Wang’s four pitches per Gameday: 93, 93, 93, 94.

  • http://rbiradio.blogspot.com/ Joey H.

93-93-93-94 with sink. I like it.

  • andrew

wow the ridic just happened. i started playing the show against the twins with sabathia. i decided after the top of the 1st after going down 1-2-3 that i didnt want to play and simulated the rest of the game. sabathia’s line? 9 ip 0 h, 0 bb, 0 er. i simulated a perfect freaking game, then change the input to my cable box and then see arods homerun. good freaking times.

  • ledavidisrael

    getting squeezed over here…

  • Blackdragon905

Wang throwing 93-93 mph with the sinker. That’s certainly a lot better than his 89-91 mph sinker that didn’t sink at all.

    • Blackdragon905

nvm, it still isn’t sinking lol.

  • MichaelKaySucks

    Wang’s speed looks great!

  • Slu

5 more HRs tonight. How big of a sample size did you guys need to see before we declare this place a bandbox?

    • V

How many of those 5 HRs were home runs in EVERY BALLPARK IN BASEBALL?

      • http://justinyates.wordpress.com justin

Every single one of them…the Rollins home-run is the only one that is a maybe

      A full season.

    • Zack

      100 more games

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Another inning and a half should do it. 20 games plus 8.2 IP is the number I had in mind for a large enough sample.

      • Will (the other one)

        +1.

  • BigBlueAL

WTF?? back-to-back nasty sliders then a sinker in??

    • Drew

I was confused when I saw Cash setup inside.

    • http://justinyates.wordpress.com justin

I haven’t seen too many good calls by Cash back there all-season…why start now

  • Slu

Look on the bright side, his ERA is going down (so far).

  • V

The only thing that annoys me more than a cheap HR is a cheap frozen liner.

  • Ivan

Part of the problem with Kay (one of just a ton) is that he’s terrible handling yankee games when the yanks are losing.

    • V

Because he has only one mood – excited. We don’t want to hear the asshole be excited about the OPPONENTS hitting homeruns.

      • Zack

He’s either excited or acts like a bitchy 12 year old when the yankees are losing

    • Zack

      he’s terrible all the time

      • MichaelKaySucks

He says shit that makes no sense.

Sinker is still up…he’s throwing it harder…but it’s still up

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

That was the best throw Kevin Cash has ever made.

  • yankees=warriors

I think the place Wang should go now is none other than….home, Taiwan…
    Cash should tag along.

    • handtius

      thats just stupid.

  • Drew

Did I really just see Cash do that?

  • Mac

Why do we have to suffer through Michael Kay? Isn’t losing bad enough?

  • http://theyankeebomber.blogspot.com Conan

I agree – HRs in every park. But I don’t recall seeing this many crushed shots as I have this year? Has the pitching really become this bad?

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

The Yankees and Phillies are two of the best HR hitting teams in baseball. That might have something to do with it.

  • Dave

Man, Wang certainly doesnt look good. How quickly is it possible to erase all the good feelings of a 9 game win streak?

    • Zack

Personally, I dont think if you bring any starter in to start the 7th inning he would look good.

  • BigBlueAL

Not exactly a confidence-inspiring inning for Wang.

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Aren’t you glad we got to see it in this game, as opposed to giving him another start?

  • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

  • pc69

Wang needs to go back to Scranton. He is just does not have it this year.

Can’t send him down without losing him

      • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

        • handtius

wang can’t except it. He can not be sent down.

  • Accent Shallow

If Wang still isn’t right . . . what then?

      AAA till he gets right.

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

        Can’t, out of options.

        • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Can’t he do what Myers did last year, though?

          • Accent Shallow

I believe he needs more service time to volunteer for a trip to the minors.

            • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

              Ah, okay. My bad.

            • handtius

              Exactly

            • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Thanks for the clarification, guys. I wasn’t sure about all that stuff.

  • Drew

I love how Kay says Wang has to do something because he can’t throw 95. Now, Wang is consistently 93-94, the last pitch hit 95, Kay doesn’t even acknowledge it.

    • http://justinyates.wordpress.com justin

Its ok, at least he never jumps on the mistakes of the other announcers and makes them look ridiculous all the time…I would love to see Ken Singleton beat the ever loving hell out of Michael Kay

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Oof, now Ryan Church is hurt. Let the game with a sore hammy.

  • http://justinyates.wordpress.com justin

do they let wang finish this game?

  • pc69

27 pitches only 16 strikes. Hughes is a better option to stay. Wang, needs more DL time and 3 more starts in AAA. He has zero confidence right now and looks more like Burnett than Wang.

    • Zack

Throwing a starter into a game in the 7th inning coming off rehabbing in the minors and have him throw 1 inning and then say he’s not ready isn’t exactly fair.

When he’s going good we still see him put guys on base then get out of jams, yeah he gave up a HR to Ibanez on a high sinker, but he also got himself out of guys on base- something he wasnt doing earlier this year

      • pc69

Problem is that “when” has not happened this year and does not look to be happening anytime soon.

He is just bad, right now.

    • yankees=warriors

AJ is nowhere as awful as Wang.

  • Drew

    Brutal Swisher, Brutal..

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Swish, come on. That’s not your game.

  • arlok789

I don’t get all the hate for Kay. He is a huge Yankee fan and most of the time he does a really good job. Leiter and Cone are both great with their pitching analysis. The only one that really drives me insane is Susan Waldman with her Boston accent. Why can’t Oneil, Lieter or Cone rotate and take turns with Sterling on the radio?

    • Drew

Actually, Kay claims he is objective. He was a huge Yankee fan as a kid.

      • arlok789

I was a huge Yankee fan as a kid, and if I got a job as the YES broadcaster, I would probably continue to be a Yankee fan regardless of my duty as a reporter to remain objective. Maybe Kay acts excited when Ibanez hits that shot because he wants to appear objective, who knows.

What I can tell you is that the most annoying broadcasters ever are the Whitesox broadcasters. Before MLB TV let you pick which broadcast you wanted to watch, I was forced to listen to them and they are horrible and sickening to listen to in terms of their inability to remain objective. He Gone! Duck Snort! Ugh…

    • Zack

“most of the time he does a really good job”

      i disagree

      • arlok789

Listen to the announcers from every other team. Before MLB TV let you pick which broadcast you could watch, I was forced to sample them all. Kay is one of the better ones.

        • Zack

Just because other announcers suck doesnt mean we have to live with Kay

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

      Leiter is great? Really?

The fucking guy says “command” when he means “control” all the time, he didn’t even know that Wang HAS other pitches besides the 2-seamer and Slider. He also throws a 4-seamer, splitter and a change. And he goes on and on about something that he was wrong about in the first place.

      Other than that, he’s tremendous.

  • pc69

    Cy Young Myers tonight. Fuck!

  • yankees=warriors

Man, this game is just as frustrating as all the blow out games!

  • Drew

    yay!!

  • Tony

Anyone that thinks it’s “okay” that the balls fly out of this stadium should tape and re-watch this game over and over again. Cheap homeruns mean that the real runs can end the game instead of just making it a 2-0 or 3-0 deficit.

    • Drew

      I didn’t see any “cheap” Hr’s tonight.

      • Tony

That Ruiz homer was a joke.

        • Drew

          Um, no, it really wasn’t.

          • Tony

            Um, yeah, it really was.

            • Drew

AJ didn’t even have to look.

              • Tony

I’m wondering what the shelf life is on all those jars of denial some of you stockpiled.

                • Drew

If a pitcher knows it is gone as soon as contact is made, maybe it was just a result of a bad pitch, not the stadium.

                • Tony

Interesting that you think a pop-fly that enters the first row in left field was somehow a no-doubter. BTW, the manufacturer suggests that you refrigerate denial after opening the jar.

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

I missed the first little bit of the game but the two homers I’ve seen, A-Rod’s and Ibanez’s, were not cheap homers. Those would be gone in any stadium.

    • http://theenlighteneddespot.com NC Saint

Anyone who thinks those were cheap home runs probably wasn’t watching it the first time.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

You wouldn’t be complaining if the Yanks were the ones hitting all the homers, so just shut up please.

      • Tony

I’m glad you sit in my living room with me.

    • handtius

non of them were cheap tonight. they were bomb. maybe ruiz…his went to left and bounced off the wall. It’s called bad pitching. Are we hitting all them bombs, no. Bad pitching.

      • Tony

I’m sure Rockies fans said that for a while.

        • handtius

So, now we have thin air in Yankee stadium? They elevated it a mile above sea level? news to me.

        • http://theenlighteneddespot.com NC Saint

And then a serious sample-size came along and proved them wrong.

  • http://theyankeebomber.blogspot.com Conan

    Cash? Really?

  • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Here’s my review on Wang. The velocity was good, 92-94 on the YES gun. He was all over the place to the first few batters, that could be a function of working out of the bullpen, where you will warm up differently. Starters will do some long tossing wheras relievers generally don’t.

I actually though he looked his best 2 pitches after the HR. Everything was down, down, down. for a batter or two. He gave up a hit, which Wang will even when he’s right. I liked that part, but then he started getting everything up again for the last two batters.

Very inconsistent. Close, but still not ready yet. Hope they give him another inning to see if he can settle down.

    • Drew

      95 on his last pitch

    • Accent Shallow

I’d imagine he’s going to finish the game.

Unless the Yankees manage to come back in the 8th, clearly you need Mariano Rivera to pitch in any save situation.

  • WesternYankeeFan

Why pinch-hit Cervelli when you could leave Cash in?

  • douglas quaid

            • Whitey14

              IETC, still laughing.

  • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Wang could be huge for us in this bandbox of a ballpark if he can return to form. When he’s right, he gives up VERY few HR’s. That could be more valuable than ever with the way this place is playing.

  • Accent Shallow

Just setting up the DP . . .

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

What does everyone think about interleague play? I’m bored with it and I think it’s run its course.

    • http://theyankeebomber.blogspot.com Conan

It is so played. An totally unfair in regards to the wildcard. So is the unbalanced schedule.

      • http://theyankeebomber.blogspot.com Conan

Plus, I don’t want to watch my pitchers hit when they don’t normally do it – hence, the problems with Wang due to last year’s injury.

    • Accent Shallow

It’s an abomination. Unfortunately, it’s here to stay as long as it’s making more money than intraleague play.

I’d also like to see the unbalanced schedule gone.

      • Pasqua

I hate the unbalanced schedule more than interleague. Watching stronger divisions beating the crap out of each other while other, lesser divisions practically hand division titles to one another just doesn’t seem right.

Torre always complained about the imbalance in the AL East. Think he’s complaining now?

If Joe is going to play Swish and Cabrera, they need to be swapped in the line up. Playing Cash is a waste of time but until Posada gets back he is the option. That sucks.

  • http://theyankeebomber.blogspot.com Conan

    The Great Ruiz is dead

  • Tony

Cash should be getting backup C time, not this alternating days crap. Cash is the worst player I have ever seen.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

He’s the fourth catcher, and this is just his fourth start since being called up on May 8th.

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Swisher has absolutely no problem getting to the ball but it seems like once he does, he bobbles the fuck out of it.

  • yankees=warriors

    Here we go again…

  • SouthernYankeeFan

this sucks. what else can you do with wang?

    • Tony

They can just keep him on the DL until he’s ready.

      Oh… darn.

  • Accent Shallow

After 2 innings (with a run allowed in each) Wang’s ERA is all the way down to 28.13.

    • CT Yankee

      A respectable 28.13

  • BigBlueAL

Even the grounders Wang is giving up are rockets.

  • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Hey, if Wang keeps giving up a run an inning, he’ll lower his ERA.

  • Drew

I never thought I’d look forward to Nady coming back. Boy was I wrong. At least, until Swish goes on another hot streak.

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

This Chase picks up the tab commercial is annoying the shit out of me now.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

If they’re going to do anything, this is the inning to do it with the top of order due up.

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Or they could keep swinging early in the count.

  • Drew

    Bandbox!

    • Tony

      JAJAJAJAJAJAJAJA

Dude, the stadium isn’t Santa Claus or a relative. That Ruiz homer carried forever and a day. The score could/should have been 3-0 instead of 5-0. And unless you think the wind is somehow blowing out to both right and left field, you’re wrong somewhere.

      • Drew

I don’t know what that means.

  • CT Yankee

    8

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

    I smell a comeback.

  • douglas quaid

wang’s career got ruined, thanks to that idiot 3rd base coach. RIP chien ming wang’s career.

    • CT Yankee

I hope you are wrong. I think its the 90% half mental stuff that is getting to him now. He was fine in Triple A.

      • SouthernYankeeFan

probably because he was facing AAA hitters. and not the world champions.

    • Accent Shallow

It was a perfectly acceptable send.

I’d imagine that Good Wang will make an appearance in 2010, since he’ll have the entire offseason to work on his foot.

  • SouthernYankeeFan

so because jeter hit it is that HR clutch??

    • Pasqua

Yes. He is single-handedly putting the team on his back and carrying them toward a comeback victory.

A-Rod’s HR, however, was in “garbage time.”

  • Accent Shallow

I guess Derek and A-Rod really are getting along better this year.

  • yankees=warriors

    Thank you, captain.

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

    UPPER
    DECK
    BABY

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

      Dammit, just missed.

    • Accent Shallow

      I can’t believe that happened.

    • Drew

This is so stupid. That jetstream makes pop ups go 430 ft.

  • Drew

    heh.

  • YankeeScribe

I cant believe they’re letting Myers pitch a gem

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    OMFG bandbox!!!

    • Accent Shallow

That’s out if he hit it to dead center in the effin’ Polo Grounds.

    • Tony

Upper Deck homers to right with the wind = pop flies to the front row in left. Got me there.

      • Drew

        OAKTAG

  • CT Yankee

    16?

  • pc69

So Wang’s inability to pitch has this game still out of reach instead of 2 runs down. Thank you Wang.

    • Zack

Yea just disregard the 5 runs our 80m pitcher gave up earlier

  • yankees=warriors

Wang’s fault, or we would be setting up for another comeback now!

  • http://theyankeebomber.blogspot.com Conan

Was this strip of land the new stadium was built on a mile above sea level?

  • pc69

Ok, Matsui needs to be benched. What the hell is with our Asian players this year? They look mediocre at best.
