• V

No, I don’t want the Phillies pen to get quality innings. I want them to put up a 36 ERA in 3 innings.

  • cjc

did you see that I think Arod just did a jig

  • John

new thread already? The last one wasn’t slowing down yet.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Eh, true. It’s a force of habit, once we get to 300 comments I usually pull the trigger on a new thread. Today’s different since so many people are out BBQing and shit. Lesson learned.

      • cjc

its fine having to scroll past 300+ posts gets annoying if you leave the forum

  • Drew

    C’mon Grit

  • Accent Shallow

    Durbin is underwhelming.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Does he not remind you of Pavano? He’s got that same little hesitation when he drops and drives in his delivery.

  • V

    Grit!

  • cjc

    jacoby gets a triple there

  • John

Only if he can get on base more often like this.

  • CP3

    Gardner wants to steal

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    Hit and run with Jetes?

  • Drew

    Damn, Giants shopping Cain.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Word is Cain for Uggle is in the works. For the Giants sake, I hope they get more.

      • Alex S

        do you mean uggla?

        • V

          Uggla is all???!

          That’d be a steal.

        • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Yeah, Uggla. My bad on the typo.

      • UWS

Why would the Giants do this?!

      • Zack

He’s making 13m total from 09-11, crazy to trade him

  • Some call me…tim

Durbin throw one in the stands please!

  • daneptizl

    Gardner needs to redeem himself.

  • dkidd

    come on derek!

  • UWS

    Wakefield imploding…again.

    • AlexNYC

The Mets can’t hit knuckleballers. Even R.A. Dickey shut them out last year.

  • daneptizl

    Man… fuckin damn..

  • CP3

    bad jump

  • V

    Horrible jump by Gardner.

  • dkidd

stolen bases are stupid fucking plays

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Not for a high percentage base stealer like Gardner (17 SB, 2 CS in his big league career). Tip your hat to Ruiz, he made a great throw.

      • dkidd

but why even take the chance with jeter/damon/tex coming up?

        • Arod, all the time

I would like top proclaim dkidd as the smartest commenter on this site, at least today. Who do I see about filing the paperwork?

If that steal was called by Girardi, he’s a fuggin idiot.

    • cjc

      big risk big reward

      • Zack

19 sb, 3 cs- thats a big risk?

    • Some call me…tim

so given last two (pena melky), wanna retract that?

  • CP3

    ruiz is getting me pissed

    • V

      You and me both.

  • Accent Shallow

    Gardner can be caught stealing?

  • dkidd

why try to steal? no confidence in jeter/damon/tex/arod?

    • John

well he is fast but I guess not so smart as a base-runner

      • Bernard

Sweet! Let’s make snap judgments about someone’s skill as a baserunner based on one caught stealing on an absolutely perfect throw from the catcher!

        • dkidd

          questioning giardi, not gardner

chad durbin is not cole hamels

          • Bernard

I wasn’t killing you on that comment, just John

    • Zack

why does jose reyes steal? no confidence in Beltran/Wright/Delgado?

      • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

And why does Ellsbury steal, no faith in Ortiz…………oh.

        • dkidd

gardner steals because an uncaring society has left him no other choice

          • Accent Shallow

            +1

  • southernyankeefan

Ruiz pumped his fist after that he should be ashamed theres no room in baseball for that.

    • John

only if you are a Yankee

      • Arod, all the time

..and pump your fist while down 5 in the 3rd inning.

  • CP3

jacoby would have been safe, no really he would

    • LiveFromNewYork

And if he was called out twelve dumb sox would jump out of the dugout and scream and yell and be called gritty and intense.

  • Accent Shallow

    Hopefully they can get Madsen/Lidge.

    • Bernard

It sure is nice that the real post-Pujols Lidge seems to have returned…

  • dkidd

that was really frustrating. top of the order, down by 1. no reason to take a chance

    • Bernard

Hey maybe if you make the same comment phrased differently 4 times it will give it more credibility!

  • UWS

    Damon-Teix-Arod in the 8th. I have faith.

    • dkidd

you’re right. we’re winning this game!

      • Bernard

        Hell yeah

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

It’ll be Madson’s third day in a row too.

  • cjc

    argg

  • Accent Shallow

I do not have a good feeling about Mayberry.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Is it bat that it’s gotten to the point where I’m disappointed if CC doesn’t pitch into the 8th? Oh crap, it is, huh?

    • John

until Bruney and Marte are healthy

  • Drew

Wow I thought he got him.

  • http://www.myspace.com/bayside Thirty5Thirty6

    Youk crying again.

    • cjc

yep right onto the mass pike

      • cjc

        maybe not my bad

        and the replay saysssssssssssssssss

        • http://www.myspace.com/bayside Thirty5Thirty6

          HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

  • southernyankeefan

    WOW

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what a rookie making his second big league start looks like against CC Sabathia.

  • Some call me…tim

…did Howard just steal??? That’s like Matsui stealing…

  • dkidd

    cervelli adding value

  • CP3

    joba like fist pump

    • BigBlueAL

      Bush league!!!!

  • Drew

Don’t like that fistpump. No room for that.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Okay good. Now get Mo up.

  • pc69

This CC signing might have been a good move by Cashman. Who would have thought this guy could have the potential to be our ace.

    • http://justinyates.wordpress.com justin

This is a cynical comment right?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

It was a nice under the radar move, no?

  • Accent Shallow

    Sabathia’s GO/AO today: 3/17

    • cjc

      release him

  • southernyankeefan

if they are gonna get that run back this needs to be the inning.

    • Zack

      or the next inning

    • cjc

yeah because they can’t hit Lidge

      oh wait

  • CP3

We better hope to Mo that the Mets win so we don’t fall behind the BoSox.

    • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

It’s May 24th. I think we could make up that one game.

      • John

especially with our team finally putting it together and getting healthier

  • Accent Shallow

Howard doesn’t have a jack this series.

    Non-bandbox?

  • John

I’ll take this everytime from CC. 8 IP 3 ER (should be 2 ER)is great.

  • Drew

    Hahaha Youkilis. YOU SUCK!

  • UWS

    Scott Eyre? Really?

Haha, not a homer for Youk.

    • John

      what happened?

      • UWS

He hit a ball he thought was fair and went into Youk is a whiney bitch mode when the umps informed him otherwise. Umps got together, did the video replay thing and said it was foul. No homer for Youk.

  • http://justinyates.wordpress.com justin

I know this happened a couple innings a go but how strong do you have to be to shatter a bat and hit the ball 370 ft? Amazing.

    • John

      must be on Roids

    • Zack

Andruw Jones did it in Atlanta when he was actually good

    • DreDog

Brian Downing did once to and it was almost straight-away center. That was power.

    • Whitey14

About half as strong as you’d have to be to check your swing and break the bat, which is far more incredible in my humble opinion.

  • CP3

Wow they’re switching Tex to the left side were the fence is like 30 ft. away.

  • cjc

hey a yankees suck chant at fenway how original btw guys you’re LOSING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • LiveFromNewYork

      And it’s the Yankees fault.

  • Drew

I wish many was still in the Sox dugout to smack Youkilis. That dude never shuts up. Horseshit! Horseshit! STFU

    • Drew

      Manny*

  • CP3

Hey atleast Melky comes to the plate in the 9th.

  • pc69

Only bad part now is that the bad part of the order is coming up after Cano and Cabrera.

    • Drew

      Swisher’s chillin in the dugout.

      • pc69

Swish, perhaps. He would be good if we need a Sac fly. But he needs the full day off.

  • dkidd

    come on alex!

  • Accent Shallow

Hopefully A-Rod can get something going against a non-Hamels pitcher.

  • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

Ahhh. Three hard hit balls in the inning.

  • DreDog

Melk will take care of business. He needs to get a tatoo of ITCOB.

  • cjc

    Tim Redding = awesome

  • John

    <.088 BABIP for Alex

    • cjc

      it has to turn eventually

  • Drew

    not veras!!!

  • Bernard

Seeing Jose Veras enter this game feels about as good as in-his-prime Mike Tyson punching me in the crotch

    • John

      nice trust…jk i feel similarly

      • Bernard

He made it interesting, but I’m glad to eat my words

    • DreDog

Do you think it would feel good in his non-prime?

      • Bernard

Hm…good point, looks like he still has it in the trailer for The Hangover

  • Greg G.

Whoa, I’m following the game on the Internets. Did Veras seriously not walk the first batter?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Do you believe everything you read on the web? ;)

      • Greg G.

That’s why I was asking for confirmation. :-) This is not the Jose Veras I once knew.

      • Greg G.

And now my computer is telling me that Veras struck out Utley looking!!! I really need to get my laptop fixed.

    • John

dangerous pitch right down the middle according to gamecast though

  • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

There are an obscene number of Phillies fans in the park. They are louder than the Yankees fans.

    • Greg G.

I bet if the Yanks score a couple runs in the bottom of the ninth, the Yankees fans will be louder.

    • Dave

Yea I was there yesterday…there were chants of lets go phillies. Of course, it made the ninth that much sweeter.

  • Drew

    C’mon Jose!!!

  • Shdwrptr

Wow. What a line for Sabbathia that could get the loss. No walks, 4 strikeouts and only 3 runs (which could have easily been 2) in 8 complete innings. That’s a shame he can’t get a win

  • Drew

    dUDE was that a changeup?

  • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

    Great pitch.

  • Accent Shallow

Clearly a Ruiz triple is forthcoming.

  • Dave

    Stupid Nick Green.

  • John

a called K for Veras? no way

    • John

      and against Utley?

  • Drew

Why don’t I remember Veras ever throwing anything but a FB and Slider?

  • pc69

That has to frustrate a hitter… the ball looks like it is going to go so far outside it will hit the mascot only to break into the zone as a hittable pitch.

Veras = Tazmanian Devil of pitching

  • Andy In Sunny Daytona

Cream Pie Face time for Hideki today. I’m sure he has many videos about that.

    • Drew

You think he’ll get a shot? May go to Swisher, no?

      • Tony

They’re going to pinch hit Swisher for Matsui? I don’t think so, Tim.

        • pat

          Hahah icwudt

    • John

you think it’s his first time receiving?

      • Andy In Sunny Daytona

I hope so. But I’m sure he’s delivered plenty.

        • John

          what about all the pockmarks…?

          • Andy In Sunny Daytona

            High heels.

            • John

              gotcha

  • leche it does the yankees good

some melky magic in the ninth?

  • UWS

Damn you, Mets. You are who we thought you were.

    • LiveFromNewYork

We said that at some point yesterday and then they totally proved us wrong.

  • DreDog

    Cano double, Melky blast!

  • LiveFromNewYork

Part of me wants to believe they’re going to do it and another part says that this number of walkoffs is insane. Another part thinks that we need to get ahead and stay ahead because these 9th innings are turning me grey.

    • John

no you get half of your years lost back after a walk-off

  • leche: it does the yankees good

wow jose veras is that you?

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    Filthy stuff by Veras.

  • Greg G.

Atlanta takes a 5-2 lead on Toronto. FWIW.

  • pc69

Cano gets on, Cabrera gets on.

does Girardi pinch hit for matsui to avoid the DP?

Does he pinch hit Pena who can bunt, Swish who could strike out, fly out, DP?

Curious of the baseball minds in here

    • Jordan

It’s really sad but I don’t see how you could let Matsui bat. He’s been so clutch in the past, but he’s been stepping out worse than a 10 year old little leaguer.

  • cjc

alright now start a puuuuuuuuuuuujols puuuujjjjjjjoooooolllllllssss chant

  • pat

Lets hope Leche doesnt get too geeked and try and go yard

  • Drew

Toronto down 6-2 in the 7th.
    C’mon Yanks, let’s snag first.
    Robbie! Robbie! Leche! Leche!

  • LiveFromNewYork

I was reading a Phillies blog yesterday and someone said “This lineup (Yankees) is full of guys I hate.” Arod, probably Tex and Jeter but who else is “hate-able”?

    • Zack

Putting on pinestripes automatically makes them hate-able to other fans

    • John

      Leche, Robby, Damon

  • leche: it does the yankees good

lidge fearful of walking the first batter again lays one in there and cano blasts it.

    • leche: it does the yankees good

or pokes it up the middle for a leadoff single.

  • Drew

    LECHE TIME!!!!!

  • dkidd

    come on leche!

  • leche: it does the yankees good

    oh melky have my babies!

  • Drew

    Robbie try to steal? Nahh

  • Accent Shallow

    Pinch run for Robbie?

  • UWS

    Well, this is weird.

  • Tony

Girardi just went into TLR Mode

  • leche: it does the yankees good

    let him swing

  • dkidd

    walk off bunt

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    STOP BUNTING!!!

  • Shdwrptr

If this is a bunt someone needs to lose their job

  • http://theenlighteneddespot.com NC Saint

This team really looks like they think they’re going to win this game. Whatever happens, that’s a pretty awesome frame of mind they’ve gotten into.

    • LiveFromNewYork

That’s true. I like that about this team.

      • http://theenlighteneddespot.com NC Saint

And it looks like they know what they’re about! Leche!

        Mummy > Papi

    • another steve

at this point that shouldn’t even need to be pointed out.

    • Jordan

However, Cora > Melky > Papi

Cora’s a true professional, a player that wins championships.

  • Statler

    MELKY!

  • pc69

Gammons/Phillips – Cabrera does it again. Another example of buying talent.

    • LiveFromNewYork

We paid a gamillion for Melky. Everyone knows that.

      • pc69

        he he… NICE!

  • LiveFromNewYork

    ZOMG!111! GIRARDI HAS TEH PLAN!

  • Shdwrptr

How good does CC feel now he doesn’t get a loss?

  • Tony

    Wang in the bullpen? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • UWS

    Wang???? Please win it here.

  • Drew

    This dude just looks horrible.

  • Will (the other one)

Look at freakin’ Melky 2.0! No hack at the slider in the dirt, clutch RBI single to blow another Lidge save…why the hell not?

  • John

    Matsui…

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

I see Girardi’s content with losing since Wang’s warming up.

  • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

    Bad Matsui! Bad!

    Pinch hit Swisher here.

  • Statler

Matsui’s weather knee must be acting up again, and paralyzing his arms. Somehow.

  • Some call me…tim

If we DFA Godzilla we gotta pay him?

  • pc69

THAT was a poor decisions, should have PH for Matsui. He is done and needs to be benched.

  • Drew

Cervelli’s been swinging a good bat.
    Can’t complain about swish though.

  • Justin R.

This is insane. Melky is awesome! I love this return to late 90s greatness…we can win any game any time!

  • Brazilian Yankee

    Matsui looks done.

    • Shdwrptr

      He looks better than Ortiz…

  • Jake

    I’ll take a walk here.

  • Tony

It almost seemed like Melky blew those bunts on purpose so he could tie it up. If true, I want to commend him for ignoring Girardi’s bullshit.

  • leche: it does the yankees good

    melky doing it all

  • Accent Shallow

They are really worried about Melky stealing here, huh?

  • pc69

    Cmon Swish, base hit.

  • LiveFromNewYork

STEAL HOME YOU SONS OF BITCHES!!!

  • dkidd

tomorrow’s headline: swish renders wang useless

    • dkidd

      or not

  • Brazilian Yankee

Melky doing it all with the SB, now all we need is a single.

  • Jake

    steal home??

  • UWS

Chance for Gardner to redeem himself…

  • Drew

    It’s your time, Grit.

  • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

    WOWP!

  • pc69

That could have been done rather than wasting Matsui. He is just an auto 3-4 outs per game

  • http://www.myspace.com/bayside Thirty5Thirty6

    Walk off for Gardner.

  • dkidd

    come on brett!

  • LiveFromNewYork

    COME ON GGBG

I’m rooting for a walk off wild pitch here!

  • John

    suicide squeeze

  • http://theenlighteneddespot.com NC Saint

I hereby irrationally stake my already irrational love of Bret Gardner on the outcome of this at bat.

    • http://theenlighteneddespot.com NC Saint

      You’re fired.

      • Bernard

I’m still holding on to my irrational love of GGBG

  • UWS

    Drats. Let’s go Mo!

  • Tony

Jeter is just going to have to homer in the 10th. We’ll see if AJ has balls then.

    • pc69

That would be the photo of the year. If AJ doesn’t he loses all credibility.

      • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

        AJ has credibility?

    • John

what if it’s JoPo? I’d be scared as hell

      • John

of course its not possible today but just imagine

  • Drew

    Free baseball!!!
Wow, Mo money time. Top of the order due up next inning for us.
    FYI, I hate watching Cash.

  • John

at least Melky tied it..we have the top of the order up next lets hope Wang can hold it

  • Bernard

    Anyone else feeling A-Rod walkoff?

    • UWS

I’m hoping for a Jeter lead-off job, myself.

      • LiveFromNewYork

I want Jeter to go yard and be done with this.

  • Brazilian Yankee

So, is Wang pitching the 10th, or is it Mo?

    • Accent Shallow

Better be Mo. I am not sure if Wang works yet.

    • LiveFromNewYork

      Mo.

  • leche: it does the yankees good

why was wang throwing in the pen?

  • LiveFromNewYork

My cardiologist would like a word with the Yankees.

  • leche: it does the yankees good

and kevin cash is a blackhole i hate watching him.

  • Drew

I wonder who the Phils will bring out.

  • ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops

Why take out Swisher and not do a double-switch to remove Gardner?

    • Accent Shallow

      A) Damon-Gardner-Melky is a better defense than Damon-Melky-Swisher, I think

      B) Gardner’s spot will hopefully not get another at-bat

      • ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops

        A) Thought about that, too, but it’s not much better.

        B) That’s not necessarily a good thing.

        • Accent Shallow

If they get to the 11th, and Gardner’s spot comes up, then I’ll be annoyed. (He can’t come up in the 10th, since in a tie game, the Yankees would win before he comes up in the 10th)

          • Drew

Wouldn’t your annoyance be quelled if Melky makes a good play out in right? It’s all relative…

            • ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops

I’m not annoyed, just questioning the move.

          • ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops

We’ll see. Hopefully it doesn’t matter.

    • Drew

      Why would you do that?

      • ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops

Because you have to remove one to get Cash into the game. And I’d rather have Swish than Gardner.

        • Drew

Ahh, true. I just disagree, I’d definitely rather Gardner than Swish out there.

          • ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops

Not a easy decisison in any way. Just wanted to throw it out there for discussion.

  • Brazilian Yankee

I know it’s irrational but Mo against Ibanez and Howard in a tie game scares me.

    • Accent Shallow

      Howard scares me, period.

    • zs190

      Gotta have faith in Mo.

  • sweet

so if jeter hits a walk-off, does he get pie?

    • BigBlueAL

      Putang pie.

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Jeter always gets the pie, but he doesn’t always pay for their parking.

  • BigBlueAL

Thank you Mo. Lets win it now because the thought of Wang or Tomko in the 11th scares the shit out of me.

    • Accent Shallow

If it were to get to the 11th, they’d probably stick with Mo, no?

Hopefully the top of the order makes this an exercise in hypotheticals.

  • John

Whew! Gamecast gave me a heart attack after the the score started flashing red, which it does when a run scores, for no reason.

  • UWS

Jeter gets on, Damon gets him over, Teix hits a walk-off.

    Now get to it, team!

    • Drew

      Sounds like a plan.

  • Accent Shallow

Condrey is eminently hittable. Groundball guy, but eminently hittable.

  • Jay

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

I actually have more faith in him than Wang right now.

    • zs190

If I recall correctly, one of the beat writers had a note that said Wang is not available to pitch until Tuesday, he’s probably just having a bullpen session to get ready for Tuesday.

  • John

    damn that DP was killer

  • V

    Ugh.

I wanna ask why Jeter didn’t steal 3rd in Teixeira’s AB – 3B seemed OPEN (and both runners moving would have taken away the shift).

He pitched 2 innings on the 20th and 3 1/3 on the 21st. That’s 5 1/3 innings, which is the equivalent of making a start. Today is the 24th. You won’t see him for another few days.

              • Drew

Except the manager said he needed two days off after the 3.1.

                • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

He was obviously wrong when he said that. Do you think if he was available he would rather pitch Tomko?

  • Accent Shallow

How is this horseshit backup catcher killing the Yankees?

    • Stryker

he’s actually a fairly decent catcher.

      but that’s the game, folks.

      • Accent Shallow

        He slugged .300 last year.

  • V

Fuck. I could deal with a solo shut to Utley over this shit.

  • Shdwrptr

Well. I think our only hope now is Melky it followed by Matsui HR. Cash coming up makes me sick

    • V

And the odds of Matsui figuring it out…

It’s gotta be a Melky HR to tie it. I don’t see these three doing anything else.

  • John

    damnit Tomko

  • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

BoSox are crushing the Mutts, and the Jays already lost.

Win today and we share 1st place with Boston.

    • Shdwrptr

    • Drew

Yupp, plus Tampa is in extra innings.

  • UWS

    Siiiiiiiiiiiiigh.

  • ROCKY

Walks always seem to come back to haunt you.

Nah, this game is almost over.

  • dkidd

how funny would it be if girardi pinch hit for cash?

  • zs190

Melkman, Matsui, Cash and Gardner coming up next inning, not looking good.

  • DCR

One run isn’t impossible but man the Yankees need to make a move for a relief pitcher. They can’t survive all season with Rivera and hope for a walk off hit.

    • JobaWockeeZ

      ?
We have Bruney and Coke. We’re waiting on Melancon/Robertson to come up. And we’re going to have to hope Marte gets better.

      • daneptizl

Shouldn’t have to wait for them to come up…. they should be here already.

  • JobaWockeeZ

The only way I see us winning is a Melky walkoff HR.

  • ROCKY

Wish we had Shelly right about now.

  • daneptizl

    Free Robertson…and Melancon…

  • UWS

I’m almost OK with the loss, but I hope this spells the end of Tomko in favor of Robertson or Melancon.

    • JobaWockeeZ

Agreed. Never liked Tomko and since Wang is our “long man” I really don’t want to see him anymore.

  • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

13 hits and 3 runs. Ugh.

  • V

    Well, that’s the ballgame.

  • Drew

    oh noooo

  • ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops

If we tie it up, is there anybody available besides Tomko?

  • DCR

I don’t think Melky is going to get another AB to walk off with, sir.

  • V

5 for his last 31, and Girardi would rather pinch hit for Cervelli than Matsui.

    • Drew

      I didn’t get that either..

  • Drew

    fuck

  • Shdwrptr

Dammit Matsui. He owed us a HR after taking 2 hittable pitches and then striking out last AB

  • Accent Shallow

    And Kevin Cash . . .

  • ROCKY

Is it me or has Matsui sucked ever since he got married?

  • Pasqua

Looks like the Yanks don’t feel like playing “Comeback” anymore.

  • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

And it comes down to Cash.

  • LiveFromNewYork

I would like to remind the hysterics among us that last year at this time we were dead last in the Al East and 5.5 games out of first (held by Boston).

    • V

Eh, I’m not worried about the TEAM, but the GAME was disappointing.

    • daneptizl

Still should have won this game.

  • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Tal vez si Kevin tomó el consolador de su trasero le golpeó el mejor béisbol.

  • JobaWockeeZ

    Dammit Tomko.

  • John

how does cash have a higher AVG than OBP on gamecast?

    • ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops

It’s possible because sac-flys and sac-bunts reduce your OBP.

  • Pasqua

Funny, of all the comeback games, this was the one that looked like it was going to fall right into place. Baseball is a fickle bitch, ay?

  • UWS

    I’m sad :(

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Awww come on sweetie. Cheer up, its a holiday weekend.

They’ll get back on track tomorrow with Phil going in Texas. This time, he’ll FINISH the no hitter!

  • John

cant say we didn’t have our chances…that tex DP was killer

    • John

      as was Gardner’s OF gaffe

    • Bob Stone

Especially since Tex swung at ball four

  • pc69

Poor hitting in the 9th and 10th but Girardi should have left Cervelli in instead was leaving Matsui. Waste of a spot in the line up.

Cash = Matsui = 6-8 outs every time they play.. Why purposely shorten the game for your team?

    • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

Dont judge a guy at the bottom of a slump. Matsui was excellent in April, and if Girardi would have let Cervelli hit and PH for MAtsui, I would have been very upset. Cervelli is a .260 minor league hitter with no power.

  • Drew

Can’t wait to send Cash on his way.. Hurry up JoPo/Mo.

  • BIG BOY

    tomko is crap.

    • Drew

He was actually spotting his FB well. Cash called for back to back sliders. Neither of which was particularly good.

  • cuponoodles

Can’t believe that runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs and our two best hitters coming up that we couldn’t get a run in…

Also, the Tomko call will leave me forever questioning Girardi’s bullpen management…

    • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

Who should he have gone to?

  • John

you win some ,you lose some (thanks to a weak bench(for now) and injured bullpen (though MO and Veras did their job)

  • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Oh well, still a great homestand.

Looking forward to watching Sir Phillip of Hughes tomorrow night.

  • BIG BOY

yankees need Nady soon. swisher and matsui are not producing.

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Some bench help would be nice. You really notice the lack of depth in extra inning games.

But Posada will be back soon, as will Nady. That’s two BIG upgrades right there.

  • Justin R.

Yeah I am looking forward to Nady’s return as well. Tough loss, but I’ll take 8-2 on any 10 game homestand. The Yanks may be in 3rd, but they are tied with the Sox in the loss column. On to Texas!

    • Bob Stone

Yanks have lost one more game than the Sox

      • Justin R.

Ah, I was going by the standing they showed on NESN just now, must not have been up to date.

  • dkidd

this series almost makes me want to root for the mets

the phillies were as tough as advertised

    • pc69

Not really. Yankees have no bottom of the order hitting until Posada and to some extent Nady get back. Then you have a bench and can move guys around.

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

That game was so on a boat for the most part. Brett Tomko, on the other hand, was at Kinko’s straight flippin’ copies.

Regardless, the Stadium was just as beautiful the second time around!
