Jake says:

Good luck with this thread I feel it

Well played by Gardner. He’s on a roll.

JobaWockeeZ says:

Is that an error on Gardner’s part?

JobaWockeeZ says:

Never mind, guess not.

Accent Shallow says:

What the hell, Gardner.

Let’s see if Hughes can pick him up.

handtius says:

SouthernYankeeFan says:

Gardner WTF. that was a H.U.Y.A. play. Head Up Your Ass.

Charlie says:

yikes, this game has been really painful

Nick L says:

an extra 10 pitches for hughes now

gxpanos says:

There goes the error streak. Or, at least it should go. Gardner on a roll. The wind looks like it’s damn devilish out there.

handtius says:
handtius says:

that was a good pitch too.

Bryan says:

I cant believe that Gardner did that, fuck.

e mills says:

Cisco is gonna get the rally started in top 6

E-ROC says:

Dennis Eckersley usage of the word sloppy is annoying.

Ivan says:

Come on Hughes.

Axl says:

Is there a way to find out our record when we’re on TBS…for some reason I don’t think it’s very good.

Jay says:

I’d love him to get out of this unscathed…

Accent Shallow says:

Possible, but I’m skeptical. Here’s hoping.

Jay says:

If not at least we got Tomko going. That should help.

Charlie says:

SHit, this sucks. Maybe Wang takes over phil’s next start.

JobaWockeeZ says:

Why? Hughes has been good. Wang isn’t close to being back to form.

Charlie says:

I know, but we’ve got to do somethin with the Wangster. If Petitte does make his next start, we could always option Phil and bring him back up when we need him

JobaWockeeZ says:

We’re giving him innings in the bullpen. However that is a terrible way to do it seeing as he should be in AAA doing a rehab stint. But I don’t think giving him a spot in the rotation is wise yet.

Axl says:

Phil was amazing last start. He’s a see-saw. He’ll be brilliant one game and then absolutely atrocious the next. There’s no stopping it. It’s one of the constant things in life. Death, Taxes, and the Phil Hughes See-Saw Effect…

JobaWockeeZ says:

How the hell is 3 runs atrocious? He’s been pitching good today. Patience to young pitchers is virtually nonexistent to Yankee fans.

Axl says:

He’s up against a team of scrubs with literally all 3 of their superstar power hitters hurt and out of the line up. He’s given up 3 runs (So far) on 5 hits (2 for extra bases), walked a batter, and hit 2 batters. Maybe not “atrocious” but he doesn’t look good that’s for sure. The offensive not doing anything certainly makes everything in-total look worse as well…

handtius says:

I’m pretty sure he’s given up 4 runs to a minor league team. that does not make him a bad, inconsistent pitcher. It means he is still learning, and oh god, human. CCs given up 4+ runs, he must be inconsistent too.

That’s part of having young kids in the rotation. Andy Pettitte’s a see-saw too.

Ivan says:

handtius says:

when was the last game he gave up more then 3 runs, before tonight.

Axl says:

Hopefully Hughes walks this guy so he can have a challenge…

Dave says:

Wow look at that strike to ball ratio

gxpanos says:

Why not Wang right now? I mean, Tomko’s just as liable to give up a bunch of runs.

And Wang isn’t?

gxpanos says:

Um, yeah, he is. Thus “just as liable.” But the Yankees don’t have a vested interest in getting Tomko innings, as he is not in any future plans. If Girardi brings in Wang and he gets bombed, Joe can say, with merit, “did I have any better options?” And the answer would pretty much be no. And if Wang pitches well, it’s more important than just a good relief appearance by the BP; it’s a step forward for a possible #2 starter.

Axl says:

The problem is…everybody is inconsistent. You can say that about anybody. Hughes, Wang, Joba, Burnett, literally any bullpen reliever…it’s all a crapshoot…

V says:

Young pitcher, injury, young pitcher, always been inconsistent, and inconsistent by their nature.

You DO realize that young pitchers and bullpen arms are, by their nature, inconsistent?

Or are you just being a fool, as always?

Axl says:

Why are you crying about my post?? The two above me were the ones arguing about “who was better (or worse) to put in”. They didn’t understand that everybody is inconsistent so I told them…and that makes me a “fool”???

HAha, you’re digging deep buddy. I love getting you riled up though. It puts a smile on my face and makes my day.

Ironic though how YOU look like the fool immediately after trying to brand me one for no reason though isn’t it?

V says:

:snort:

When was the last time you posted while the Yankees were winning?

Axl says:

Umm…the last time I posted.

Accent Shallow says:

All he needs is a ground ball, now.

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

Big out right there.

Ivan says:

2nd out this inning….oh wait.

Orlando says:

thanks, Kim!!!

mustang says:

Can someone tell me why Tomko and not Wang?

Arman Tamzarian says:

Wang seems to have caught the mysterious Britton syndrome.

V says:

Wang being saved in case he’s needed for Pettitte’s start.

They probably don’t want to bring him in in the middle of an inning since he’s never done it before.

JobaWockeeZ says:

I think because they haven’t used Tomko in a while. But he’s wasting a spot, I for one would like him gone.

mustang says:

Wang ass must really hurt right now.

Jake says:

Joe said theyre saving Wangger in case AP cant go

Some call me...tim says:

even if it had been scored an error, it wouldn’t break the streak: Gritner isn’t a True Yankee.

Stryker says:

i love the yankees as much as the next guy but this notion of one player being a “true yankee” more than another is absolute horseshit.

he wears the uniform – he’s a yankee. get over it.

handtius says:

i’m pretty sure that was a joke.

Stryker says:

my sentiment still stands regardless. the idea of someone being a “true yankee” is absolute garbage.

Bob Stone says:

I missed the play – what did Gardner do (or not do)?

Accent Shallow says:

Soft line drive right at him, initially jumped in, before turning around. Went over his head for a “double”

Accent Shallow says:

Come on, don’t walk Choo.

Charlie says:

come on phillip, we need a GIDP

pc69 says:

Well there is one of those runs that should not have happened but will look like it is the pitchers fault.

Phil still looks good, if he had any offensive support, would be no big deal.

Jay says:

I’m not to upset with the way he pitched. Good strike to ball, and he is giving us a chance to come back. I’ll say a prayer for the bullpen.

Jay says:

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

Come on yankees we need sum runs.

Accent Shallow says:

Send him out to start the 6th, right?

95 pitches, I doubt they will.

JobaWockeeZ says:

I don’t want to see Tomko so hopefully.

zs190 says:

I hope not. He can’t throw the cutter for strikes and he doesn’t seem to have the feel for the curveball today, you can’t pitch with just the fastball and that’s about all he has today. At 95 pitches, probably better to just pull him.

handtius says:

I think his 6 strikeouts beg to differ. i don’t think you could go 5 innings with just a fastball.

zs190 says:

Most of those were the first time through the order when they weren’t sitting on the fastball yet.

John says:

at least Melky’s back tomorrow…i hope he’s still hot

Gardy is not a starter

Zack says:

Gardner isnt a starter because he misplayed a ball? Remember how melky got hurt- he misplayed a ball

John says:

No, I cant even watch so I dont know how bad it was but you can tell by his stats he is a 4th OFer

Zack says:

he has a higher OBP and SLG then Ellsbury this year

Zack says:

Charlie says:

personally, and nothing against Brett, but i just don’t see the gritster being a major leaguer. He can’t hit for any power whatsoever and can’t sustain a real good OBP, plus he doesn’t have a great arm in center

Accent Shallow says:

He has an adequate arm for a CF. He’s not Ichiro, but he’s not Damon or Juan Pierre, either.

Zack says:

he has a better OBP then Ellsbury

Chip says:

He’s got an OPS of like .725 which isn’t horrible for a center fielder. He’s still learning major league pitching

jonathan says:

How is a hump like Pavano doing this to us!! Twice!! First time I chalked it up to no one seeing him pitch for 20 years, but we have seen him!! and he is shutting us down!!

Charlie says:

if we have one more inning of Carl Pavano dominance, i will die a lot inside

LiveFromNewYork says:

Does the offense not work on Sundays?

JobaWockeeZ says:

Terrible call.

Charlie says:

MOTHERFUCKER, this is brutal

SouthernYankeeFan says:

jeter safe by a mile

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

Chip says:

Wow, I’ve been watching that game on TBS (who obviously know nothing about Hughes and are talking about how he needs to add a breaking ball and a sinker). It’s just hilarious to come here and watch all the comments complaining about Hughes.

I mean he’s been sitting 93-95 the entire game and really hasn’t made any mistakes outside of hitting a few guys. Both of the doubles hit against him you can’t really fault seeing how one was just a great job by the hitter keeping it fair and the other one was on Gardner. Add that in with the bloop single and he just hasn’t had any luck this game. The guy looks really healthy and just doesn’t seem to have the location on his curve, it happens

John says:

no one’s complained besides Axl

Axl says:

I don’t recall “complaining” about anything. I never once sobbed and asked WHY anything was happening. I wrote how I didn’t think Hughes was pitching well and then everybody grabbed their boxes of tissues and went on the crusade against per usual…

John says:

ok but only your comments were the most negative

Accent Shallow says:

I’m encouraged by the process. Would have liked better results, but those will come if he repeats the process.

Ivan says:

On TBS he’s been hitting 93-95?

handtius says:

Axl says:

Here comes “The Wanger”…

Hes not sitting 93-95 lol Hes at 91-93.

Zack says:

it’s whatever their ‘talking points’ the announcers have. it’s just like Kay and his stupid change up discussions every game.
he should throw a change up. why doesnt he throw a change up Al? it’s such an effective pitch. Al why havent they taught him the change up? You threw it right???

John says:

Pavano is such a dick

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

Thats bull shit it would of been 1 and 2 wit tex at the plate.

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

gone babiiiiiiii

Jay says:

Umps suck ass.

Right back in it.

e mills says:

wasn’t that Tex signing a bad idea?

Dave says:

Should be 4-3…

Ivan says:

Tex message to RF.

SouthernYankeeFan says:

YEAH Tex shoulda been a three run jack.

Should be 4-3!!!!!!!!

zs190 says:

Finally! This should have been a 3 run one though…

Stryker says:

shoulda been 4-3.

Arman Tamzarian says:

JobaWockeeZ says:

It would have fucking been 3-4 thank you you dick of an umpire.
great blast Teix.

Charlie says:

THank Mo!!!! it’s about time

Wow hot hot is Tex?

pc69 says:

Guess Zambrano knew what he was doing throwing that bald headed fuck of an ump. Umps should be fined $5000 every time they blow a call as bad as that was on Jeter.

Zack says:

or atleast acknowledge they blew a call, like the NFL and NBA does, MLB is the only one who doesnt.

the only problem is second base and the phantom tag, there’s what 3-5 of those every game

gxpanos says:

We’re gonna cheeeeeeeeeer Teixeira….

Also, why don’t managers have instant replay on a play like Jeter’s? It’s so fucking stupid. Give the managers only 1 challenge each, if Bud’s so worried about how long it takes. As if baseball is a game where time is of the essence. Games take 3 hours–it’s not, and shouldnt be, a game that goes fast. So asinine.

SouthernYankeeFan says:

they should just have machines incapable of making mistakes call games.

Jay says:

Arman Tamzarian says:

I imagine you’ll see the Yankees given the next close one

gxpanos says:

If that’s sarcastic, I’d reply that as soon as the technology exists I’d be in favor of it.

If it’s not sarcastic, then I like the way you think.

JobaWockeeZ says:

Velocity a little bit better? I think that’s the YES gun playing tricks. I heard his velocity is around the same.

Charlie says:

Good time for CMW

Dave says:

Hooray for the call to wang

e mills says:

Jay says:

so much for saving him. Side session on the mound?

John says:

after that blown call, I hope we win!

Ivan says:

mustang says:

Mr. Wang !!! !!!

boobie says:

wang hitting 93 on the gun…does that mean hes hitting 93 or hughes was actually at like 91-92 all game instead of 93-95? hopefully the gun is right.

Charlie says:

if you’re talkin aboout the Yes gun, its always wrong

boobie says:

27 this year says:

Gameday shows 93 for CMW and like 93 for Hughes and Gameday is far more accurate than YES

Nick L says:

something inside of me wants wang to be bad, so Hughes stays in the rotation.

JobaWockeeZ says:

He’s going to the rotation next year. And I still do not understand why people want Yankees to do bad. Seriously be a fan and cheer for the players no matter how bad they play.

Charlie says:

27 this year says:

yea Wang! First batter down. Drops ERA by like .6

Charlie says:

his ERA is under 20!!

Jacob says:

Vintage CMW stuff right there, 93 on his shoe strings.

27 this year says:

looks like his velocity is sitting around 92-93

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

wow im liking what im seen so far for wang.

mustang says:

Mike Axisa says:
May 31st, 2009 at 2:16 pm
They probably don’t want to bring him in in the middle of an inning since he’s never done it before.

Good call Mike !!!

e mills says:

94??? I like it

Jay says:

He has officially broken 20 with his era.

Ivan says:

Hughes pitch solid, the results may not show it but he pitch solid plus, the key was 1 BB and the 6 K’s and the terrific K-BB ratio.

CMW wants his job back.

Accent Shallow says:

I’m liking this new K machine Wang.

27 this year says:

CMW pounding the zone

Axl says:

Wang is throwing all fastballs…it’s working…but where’s the sinker!!!

handtius says:

Well, the sink is when the ball is tailing down at the end…like when he struck out the 2 batters on the sinker. yes, those were sinkers.

V says:

This is the problem with idiots who watch the game via Gameday and think they know what’s going on.

Those ‘fastballs’ are sinkers.

27 this year says:

there are also people who follow Gameday and realize that everything is simply done by a computer that assumes everyone’s sinker is the same and thus the person realizes that the computer isn’t 100% right. There are idiots and then there is me.

zs190 says:

Wang is looking great again today, nice sinking action, good velocity.

Jacob says:

These TBS announcers make me want to rock slowly in a corner and weep.

SouthernYankeeFan says:

God TBS is talking about Joba to the pen i want to break something.

V says:

Wow, still?

What does Joba have to do with this game????!

Zack says:

because obviously joba should be our new long man out of the pen

JobaWockeeZ says:

TBS listens to the talk shows and reads ESPN so they want to act smart by saying Joba should go to the bullpen. Frankly their idiots and I am not surprised.

Arman Tamzarian says:

Apparently he’s needs to pitch the 8th inning.

John says:

maybe they have nothing else to talk about?

this is why baseball rating are down!

Axl says:

Well somebody has to go to the pen lol

V says:

Wang’s touching 94 – a good sign if his velocity is coming back.

Accent Shallow says:

Hughes’ pitch f/x data for this game:

http://www.brooksbaseball.net/.....evDate=531

Average fastball velocity of 92.95. Yowza.

SouthernYankeeFan says:

nice play by cervelli

JobaWockeeZ says:

LOL nice steal. Man he was annoying.

Charlie says:

i hate pitchouts, just get the batter out wangster

Charlie says:

that works, too

Stryker says:

cervelli the backup catcher next year? methinks so.

Charlie says:

he better be. I’m not exactly a jose molina fan

JobaWockeeZ says:

Molina is a great defensive catcher. He’s basically Cervelli without speed.

Charlie says:

and much older and a little less hitting skills

JobaWockeeZ says:

A little less hitting skills? Cervelli hit .190 in AA. He might be doing well in the majors but still I don’t think he’ll keep hitting this good.

V says:

?

Cervelli is OPSing .642

LiveFromNewYork says:

He is and he has the final HR at OYS.

mustang says:

V says:

Wang looking good.

SouthernYankeeFan says:

i love cano dont get me wrong but seeing a few pitches before would not kill him

Dave says:

God i hate Pavano

gxpanos says:

I love the Hughes start. Had confidence in the FB, threw some good curves. If he didn’t hit Choo 0-2, and Gardner makes that stupid play in center, he might have a line closer to 6 IP 2 ER.

Cleveland was pesky fouling balls off too.

Chip says:

I agree, learning to put batters away is a skill that takes years to learn in the majors. You have to be happy the way he looked

Zack says:

I see your points, but personally i dont like it when people start saying if A didnt happen, and if B didnt happen, C also happened too- because A-B-C did happen

Chip says:

That was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen a catcher do. Short-hopped the pitch and threw a strike to second to get the basestealer, wonderful

Dave says:

LOL matsui infield pitch? really?

Dave says:

err hit. Gah I stink

handtius says:

haha…matsui gets an infield hi..never thought it was possible.

Chris A says:

Why can’t we hit American Idle?

gxpanos says:

He’s throwing quality strikes, what do you want? Anyway, they have two runs.

Charlie says:
gxpanos says:

Arman Tamzarian says:

There was a reason they gave him 40 million, as painful as it is to say it, he’s a decent pitcher (When healthy of course)

handtius says:

Yep, that’s what i said in the first thread…it’s sad, but that is why we wanted him.

Zack says:

it’s why Cincinnati and Boston offered him more money too, it wasnt his stuff, it was always his heath

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

come on swisher at least a double right here.

John says:

Please Swishah!

dave says:

How have we only seen 78 pitches?!?

handtius says:

he’s throwing a lot of strikes.

Pete says:

Is Pavano wearing #44 to taunt the Yankees? (4 years, 40 mil?)

John says:

Axl says:

Pavano’s contract was actually 4 years at 39.95MM. I believe he fired his agent because he didn’t get him the 40MM.

Axl says:

“Swish the Dish”

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

dammit swisherrrrrrrrr

JobaWockeeZ says:

I’m sorry Swish, but I miss Nady.

A week or two of seeing Nady ground out on the second pitch of the AB will fix that for ya.

Zack says:

Yeah that 14BB : 48K in 60 games in NY was really impressive

John says:

Gardy HR here…

John says:

if only the pitchers mound had a fence

Jacob says:

Swisher just looks lost right now.

whozat says:

He crushed one to CF just yesterday.

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

wow that would of been a double.

SouthernYankeeFan says:

damn garnder crushes it. tough break though.

whozat says:

Yeah, can’t catch a break today. Gardner catches that ball in center, Ump doesn’t miss that call at 2b…could be tied right now.

Chip says:

If he gets a little elevation on that it could have left the park. I’ve never seen him hit one that hard

Dave says:

We should drop a bunt for a hit on Pavano, make him move off the mound and put his fragile buttocks in Jeopardy.

27 this year says:

his buttocks are only fragile when money isn’t on the line.

E-ROC says:

Just the Yankees luck. Gardner hits a ball hard…..right at somebody. Dammit!

John says:

we’ll have these unlucky games once in a while but it just hurts more that it came against Mr.DL

Pete says:

This guy truly aggravates me.

Charlie says:

this game is gettin pathetic

Chip says:

Wait until either Pavano starts to tire (which usually only takes about 80 pitchers) or us to get into their bullpen

JobaWockeeZ says:

Their bullpen hasn’t been great so taking Pavano out of the game would be a great help.

27 this year says:

I have a feeling that next inning is going to be good for us. I have a good feeling the top of the order is going to rape Pavano.

V says:

Top of the lineup in the 8th.

Chip says:

Well Cervelli and then the top of the lineup

Chip says:

Unless the pinch hit Posada which wouldn’t surprise me at all

Chip says:

Anybody else think Wang’s problem is mostly in the stretch? I mean he started that last Cleveland game with a perfect inning and then started getting killed after Hafner hit a little squib single to third. He didn’t look good out of the stretch last inning either

When you’re as bad as he was, everything’s a problem.

Accent Shallow says:

Wang has historically had problems out of the stretch, but his results this year are so bad that they can’t be attributed solely to that. Sure, that might have had a small effect, but he just wasn’t ready for the season, due to not working out his legs.

Zack says:

every pitcher has problems out of the stretch, you dont give up solo HRs as your only runs all season long

V says:

Even in his perfect inning, his stuff wasn’t great.

With the issues he had, you have to pay less attention to the results than the stuff.

handtius says:

I think his stuff looked pretty good. What didn’t you like?

Jamal G. says:

Hasn’t he always had a bit of an issue with pitching out of the stretch, though?

John says:

I hate it when some things don’t go our way (Jeter’s out) or we make dumb little mistakes (Gardy misplayed the liner) and we are down by 4-2, it irritates me to think that we could have been tied!

Pete says:

Meanwhile, Wang lookin’ sharp. May be time for Hughes to work on some things.

SouthernYankeeFan says:

The yankees should be ashamed if Pavano gets a W off of them.

JobaWockeeZ says:

Pavano has been sharp. It’s not some rookie crappy pitcher with an ERA above 5.

handtius says:

he does have an ERA above 5 though..maybe not anymore. sad.

handtius says:

Arman Tamzarian says:

But he’s been pretty good is his last few starts in May

whozat says:

Yeah…he’s throwing lots of strikes. Look at his game log for may…no stinkers on there. Two mediocre starts, a couple decent ones, and a couple very good ones.

There’s a reason there was a multi-team bidding war for this guy.

Axl says:

Well statistically we score most of our runs in the 7th inning this year…and we scored nothing then. It’s the 8th inning and Pavano pretty much dominated our team while Hughes pitched ok against the worst team in the AL WITHOUT their 3 best hitters…

Just have to hope the offense comes alive once (if) Pavano finally gets taken out.

John says:

that’s like the 4th time you’ve said that the Indians are without their 3 best hitter! Every team can win on any given day!!! It’s not like the rest can’t hit at all! They just got their hits against us today.

Jamal G. says:

Heh, I have to give it to SoSH, their nickname for Asdrubal Cabrera is “Ass-Dribble”; that’s pretty damn hilarious.

John says:

Ass-dribble=Pavano also

27 this year says:
Jamal G. says:

Sons of Sam Horn. Think of it as the Red Sox equivalent to NoMaas.

Accent Shallow says:

With less racial slurs, but more whining.

Jamal G. says:

Much, much more whining.

Stryker says:

Sons of Sam Horn. it’s a red sox blog.

Charlie says:

Wang’s mowin em down

Charlie says:

of course, right when i say that

e mills says:

think you gotta PH Jorge coming up

LiveFromNewYork says:

If Swish really wants to help he’ll get hit by a pitch and then charge the mound and knock Pavano on his glass ass.

27 this year says:

maybe Swish should take one for the team. He might get fined but maybe Hal will slip him a little cash under the table, whatever the fine and suspension cost Swish.

27 this year says:

then he will be a fan favorite again.

gxpanos says:

Wang at 92-93. On the way back, perhaps?

Francisco with the single. Let’s see Wanger out of the stretch.

27 this year says:

Wang’s ERA is down to 17.76

John says:

and his average against is down to .492!

27 this year says:

I never realized his BAA was that high.

gxpanos says:

WOW. I know he didn’t get him, but Cervelli’s transfer was ridunk!

Accent Shallow says:

What a horseshit single.

E-ROC says:

27 this year says:

At the very least, his pitches are down adn the hits are ground balls. He hasn’t allowed a fly ball yet.

Charlie says:

crap, gotta get outta this wangster

handtius says:

V, you said you didn’t like the way wang was pitching. what didn’t you like?

gxpanos says:

Everything’s been down, and velocity up a tick. I’m optimistic about him right now.

John says:

Choo scares me…

zs190 says:

Tons of groundballs, love it.

Charlie says:

nice job against choo choo, pitches were all down

mustang says:

I wonder what excuse are they going to use to keep Wang in the pen now.

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

Cuz hes been affective :)

Zack says:

because throwing 2 good innings is still different then throwing 5-6-7 good innings

mustang says:

That’s 4 scoreless going back to his last relief appearance and he looks like the old Wang.

John says:

Hughes is pitching kinda well
