Nady takes BP

By

Via Bryan Hoch, Xavier Nady took batting practice yesterday for the first time since going down with an elbow injury last month. “It felt good,” said Nady. “I was more hesitant the first couple of swings, but I was swinging the bat good. I’ll do this for a couple days, and hopefully by Friday, Saturday and Sunday, I’ll be letting it loose out there.” Nady expects to continue his rehab next week down in Tampa. His bat will be a welcome return to a club currently sporting a bench of Angel Berroa, Ramiro Pena, Brett Gardner and Kevin Cash.

  1. I wonder if they’ll let him play the outfield at all this year, or if he’s permanently restricted to DH duty. We may just make the DH a full lefty/righty Matsui/Nady platoon and call it a day.

    Nady Nation misses X.

  3. Whizzo The Wize says:

Assuming Nady can come back with a productive bat, does the bench become Pena, Molina, Gardner, Nady? Or does the pen eventually drop down 11 guys, and we put another UTINF/UTOF on the bench?

    • A.D. says:

Hopefully the pen can drop a guy at some point.

    • I’d surmise that come the All Star break, our 13-man position player staff will be:

      C-Posada
      1B-Tex
      2B-Cano
      3B-Nails Krzyzewski
      SS-Jeter
      LF-Damon
      CF-Melky
      RF-Swisher
      DH-Matsui

      Pinch hitter/4th OF/frequent DH against LHP’s – Nady
      Backup catcher – Molina
      UTI – Pena
      5th OF/pinchrunner/LIDR – Gardner

Cervelli gets a pat on the butt and goes back to Scranton; Berroa and Cash (and Ransom when he gets healthy) are DFA’d and traded for more Romulo Sanchezes.

I can’t see us really rocking an 11 man pitching staff.

        LIDR?

i’m super interested to see if cervelli, having never played at aaa, can keep this up if they send him to scranton in cash’s place. i mean, at this point, cervelli’s shown AT LEAST to be equal sign to cash even if he reverts, and being that he is much younger that makes cash expendable with a capital GETRIDOFHIM.

and if cervelli continues this at aaa, then i assume he becomes the starter next yr, posada full time dh and try to sign molina to a yr, maybe with an option to back up cervelli?

        • A.D. says:

I would be shocked no matter what Cervelli did if they hand him a starters job, that would be unwise. Figure he’s probably given the Yankees some comfort to let Molina go after this season. Have Posada catch & DH, with Cervelli as the back-up. If someone goes down they can have PJ & Some Kevin Cash type at AAA.

      • Whizzo The Wize says:

Whizzo sees the solution: bring up that ambidextrous kid. He’s worth 2 pitchers, then Whizzo get’s his 5 man bench.

Bring Whizzo your finest, second cheapest utility player!

      • Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

They could even entertain the idea of trading Jose Molina. I’m sure they could get something of substance for him. His contract is up at the end of year, so why not cut the cord early? His defensive reputation this year wasn’t living up to its billing before he got hurt.

        • AndrewYF says:

Yeah, maybe the Yankees can get Jeff Kennard for him!

Jose’s not going anywhere. The pitching staff would revolt.

          • A.D. says:

            The pitching staff would revolt.

            Doubtful.

But if he were to get traded you’re talking about a AA reliever, that isn’t special…tops.
