Noesi surrenders first runs of the year

By Mike Axisa

One year ago today on DotF, Justin Christian and Brett Gardner hit back-to-back homers in game two of Triple-A Scranton’s against Pawtucket.

Hector Noesi is your South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week. Noesi had a 0.00 ERA, 0.51 WHIP, .117 BAA, and a 35-5 K/BB ratio in 27.1 IP coming in to tonight. Hot damn.

Triple-A Scranton (5-4 loss to Columbus in 11 innings)
Reegie Corona: 1 for 3, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HBP
Austin Jackson: 1 for 4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 3 K – 2 for his last 13 (.154) including this game
Todd Linden & Shelley Duncan: both 0 for 5 – Linden K’ed once, Shelley thrice … Shelley threw a runner out at home from RF in the 11th
Eric Duncan: 2 for 5, 1 R
Chris Malec: 1 for 5, 1 R, 1 K
Chris Stewart: 1 for 3, 1 2B, 1 PB, 1 HBP, 1 E (throwing)
Justin Leone: 1 for 4, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 BB – bases loaded two-run double to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth
Doug Bernier: 0 for 4, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K
Casey Fossum: 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 7 K, 1 WP, 6-4 GB/FB - 56 of 93 pitches were strikes (60.2%) … 14 K in his last 11.2 IP
Mark Melancon: 1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 1 WP, 0-2 GB/FB – 16 of 29 pitches were strikes (55.2%) … eek
Zach Kroenke: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 1-2 GB/FB – 12 of 21 pitches were strikes (57.1%)
Romulo Sanchez: 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 1-1 GB/FB – 16 of 25 pitches were strikes (64%) … organizational debut
David Robertson: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 3-0 GB/FB – 22 of 35 pitches were strikes (62.9%)

Double-A Trenton had a scheduled off day.

High-A Tampa’s game was postponed due to wet grounds. They’re going to play two tomorrow.

Low-A Charleston (6-5 loss to Bowling Green) I’m not liking Tampa Bay’s new affiliate in Bowling Green, not a fan of the central time zone
Dan Brewer: 2 for 3, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 1 CS
Carmen Angelini & Corban Joseph: both 1 for 5 – Angelini stole a base … Joseph scored a run
David Adams: 0 for 3, 2 BB, 1 K
Taylor Grote: 0 for 5, 2 K
Melky Mesa: 3 for 4, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 BB – 41 K in 129 AB … eek
Abe Almonte: 2 for 4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 2 K – threw a runner out at third from CF
Chase Weems: 0 for 4, 1 K, 1 PB
Ray Kruml: 2 for 4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 2 K, 1 SB
Hector Noesi: 5 IP, 10 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 7-6 GB/FB – it wasn’t going to last forever
Cory Arbiso: 2.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 3-2 GB/FB
Brad Rulon: 0.1 IP, zeroes – didn’t even record a traditional out, an inherited runner was caught stealing

Oyy Marky, we’ve all heard about his focus and fortitude lets see how he handles this little slump he’s been in since being called up.

A.D. says:

At least he’s gotten some of that adversity/challenge everyone was talking about

pat says:

Word. Gotta get back on that horse.

Melancon seems to be struggling a bit.

Slugger27 says:

hes off the fertility drugs

Gustavo says:

I think you mean Rulon 0.1 IP

Miles Roche says:

The inherited runner being thrown out accounts for 1 out. What about the other out?

I goofed, he threw just one-third of an inning, not two.

A.D. says:

Brewer having a fine year thus far

Drew says:

Will Fossum be released or be a throw in in a trade?

whozat says:

With Kennedy out and Aceves in the Show — and Hughes likely to spend at least part of the year in the bigs as well — I expect he’ll stick around in AAA. He could even earn his way to the bigs as a swingman.

Bo says:

I wouldn’t bet against Fossum being a call up.

DreDog says:

DOTF posts get me psyched for the draft.

V says:

Ditto. I’ve actually planned to work from home that day, since I’d miss the 1st hour due to my commute, lol.

I seriously doubt it. Raining like crazy here in Florida.

UWS says:

Not very sunny, you might say, eh?

Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

As long as I’m here, it’s always sunny in Daytona.

Joey says:

Was going to say the same thing, I’m in South FL right now, couldn’t see a foot in front of me on the highway, freakin pouring and I hear it’s pretty much the same in Tampa and Orlando. Good luck with that

What’s Noesi’s celling? Is he really that good or was it just one heck of a week?

Doug says:

3 more K’s for jackson. not good. his BABIP is close to .500. not going to last

Mike. Seeing as someone mentioned draft…What are thoughts on A&M’s Alex Wilson? I’ve seen him fall to the Yankees in a couple of mock drafts (I know that means nothing at this point) and his scouting report looks very good. I’m intrigued.
