Open Thread: Mets vs Sox

Game 43 Spillover Thread
SWB breaks out of offensive slump in a big way

Half of RABland is out preparing for their Memorial Day festivities, and the other half is still celebrating today’s walk-off win, so it’s a slow night ’round these parts. We’ll leave the floor open tonight for you to talk about whatever you want, though there’s some great sports action on the tube tonight. The Mets and Red Sox play at 7pm, though the Beckett-Pelfrey pitching matchup doesn’t work in the Yanks’ favor. Pelfrey, in case you missed my tweet earlier (shameless self promotion FTW), has walked 17 and struck out 11 in his 41 innings of work this year. Hitters have made contact on 92.8% of the swings they’ve taken against him, compared to the league average of 80.6%. Hooray for The Verducci Effect, eh?

Elsewhere, you’ve got a pair of Game Threes on tonight: Lakers-Nuggets (series tied 1-1) on ABC, and Pens-Canes (Pens lead the series 2-0) on Versus. DotF will be along later at it’s regular time, but until then feel free to talk about whatever you want here, just be nice.

Can we fly Melky to Boston in time to pinch hit a walk off for the Mets?

  • Ari

That was awesome!!!! I F-ing love this team!!!!

  • stuart

great win. arod came up big and melky with the game on the line is insane……..5 walkoffs for melky…5 that is a lot………

    • TomSwift

I was a skeptic, but count me a fan now. The Melkman can play.

  • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

Sorry for the double post but it really belongs here.

Did anyone see the Johan/Youk encounter from last night? That was all kinds of awesome.

    • Drew

So sick. Youkilis is such a tool.

    • yankeefan91 Arod fan

mike i did see that last night he was preety pissed at youkilis for looking at him after he hit him.

    • Luthien

      What happened?

      • Drew

Sant hit him on his back elbow. Youk walked to first while staring at Santana saying some shit. Typical youkilis whining.

        • anonymous

Its funny that Manny was the sane person on that team who told idiots like Youkalis to just shut up and play the game.

        • RCK

What is awesome is that Santana was totally ready to take Youkilis on.

  • A-Rod is Still My Ninja

My nerves cant take many more games like that one. Hopefully it will be a little more straight forward tomorrow:-)

Thank God for pitch counts. The way Happ was pitching, I thought we’d never score more than 2 runs…

Heh, had to go to JFK today to pick up a friend that’s isiting. We made it back just in time to see the end of the game.

Glad I caught the end. Melky’s something this season. Has anyone else been more clutch?

Just a different feel this year.

    • V

Rebecca – you’re never allowed to miss a game.

    • Accent Shallow

I believe since his callup, Melky has the most walkoff hits of any Yankee.

      How’s that for some shit?

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Just a different feel this year.

Yeah, Melky doesn’t suck this year (yet?).

    • Permínio Neto

When I saw Melky on deck when Robbie hit that single up the middle I thought walk-off all the way, go figure. I just hope he can keep this up season long.

By the way, Rebecca, as you always answer my fantasy baseball questions: Derek Lowe for Jayson Werth, would you do it?

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

OMG DOUBLE STEAL!! This team is so youthful and fresh.

    • Quikksand

Joe Buck s a Yankee hater, that d-bag needs to stick to calling NFL games, or go back to St. Louis.

      • Accent Shallow

He might be a Yankee hater, but he has that same bored tone of voice when calling any dramatic moment. Worst dude.

        • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Yeah, when he was younger it came across as ‘too cool for the room’. But now that he’s older, he just sounds like he doesn’t want to be there.

Did Gary Cohen really ask Omar Minaya why he didn’t call-up a 19-year-old in 2A to play short stop for a day-to-day Jose Reyes? Christ, what an idiot. This is the same guy who said the Marlins should move Hanley frickin’ Ramirez to first base.

    • Accent Shallow

Ramirez to third, so who can play short? Good Face?

I feel the need to root against Ohlendorf. I really hope he doesn’t come back to haunt the Yankees.

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

I highly, highly doubt that will happen.

      • whozat

Upside is solid-late-innings reliever. Can one of those really come back to “haunt” you?

        • Accent Shallow

Not worried about that. Worried he manages to stick as a solid starter.

          ‘course, that’s pretty unlikely.

    • cult of basebaal

That’s a little cold, poor bastard got exiled to the Pirates, isn’t that sufficient punishment?

      • Accent Shallow

Ordinarily, but if he turns into a decent starter, that could a) impact the Yankees chances of winning in the future and b) mean we’ll have to hear about it forever

        • cult of basebaal

I can see b, but i don’t see how it affects the Yankees chances of winning in the future.

I hope all the Yankees prospects that get traded get a shot to play and succeed, especially if they didn’t (or likely wouldn’t) get one with the Yankees …

        • V

How does Ohlendorf panning out into a decent #4 starter harm the Yankees chances of winning?

Actually, if former Yankees’ scrub prospects pan out into decent above-replacement-level players, that should HELP the Yankees in future trades, no?

          • Accent Shallow

I guess for that to occur, Hughes/Chamberlain would have to not pan out, and Burnett would have to join Wang at the bottom of the cliff.

Melky Cabrera earned his fifth career walkoff hit and third this season. He is one walkoff triple away from a walkoff cycle (has a walkoff single, double, and HR this season).

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=290523110

From that ESPN link. Has anyone ever hit a walk off triple?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Oof, that would be tough. It would have to be something like bases loaded, down by two, and then he triples. Even then they’d probably call it a double because he wouldn’t make it to third before the run scores.

      • cult of basebaal

It would have to be someone very fast and someone very slow.

Gardner could spot Molina 90 feet and catch him by 3rd.

‘Course it would have to be on a ball that would normally be an inside the park homerun for Molina to actually score from 1st …

      • Accent Shallow

Per Google, Luke Scott and Eugenio Velez have done it. (As well as MiL teams and ‘Panama girls’, which I can only assume refers to a Panama HS, rather than Panama)

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

I don’t think you can, because the team would mob you before you got to 3B

    • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

You can hit an inside-the-park HR with the hit being ruled a triple and the run being scored on an error.

      • steve (different one)

        boom, that just happened.

        great call.

      • steve (different one)

Or….you hit the walkoff HR with a man on base, and the team mobs you before you get to the plate, Robin Ventura-style.

  • The Lodge

My favorite part of the win today was when Rodenthal interviewed A-Rod’s knee.

    • V

      huh?

      • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Rosenthal interviewed A-Rod after the game. Ken Rosenthal is very, very short.

        • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

BTW-Is “midget” OK? I got into a bit of trouble the other day when I used that word. I use it descriptively, not as a pejorative. I’m not trying to get anyone upset, but ‘little people’ just strikes me as silly and overly PC.

          • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

So in other words it is my best possible career choice.

It’s OK, he is in a seven-way tie for the MLB lead in fielding percentage for left fielders with 1.00%. /Tony Amaro Jr.’d

    • steve (different one)

sure, but he’s at like 500 OPS+…i think they’ll scrape by.

      • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Ron Darling was commenting on how Bay has become an “impeccable” fielder since coming to the Red Sox so I figured I’d correct him.

      • manimal

        168 OPS+,

    • John

but he’s a RED SOX! Theo must have done that so he can sign him cheaply after the year.

    • whozat

In fairness, the presence of the green monster messes with the UZR system somehow. I don’t understand how, but on RLYW he mentions that when he talks about OF defense. That said, Bay is still a pretty heinous defensive OFer.

Phils are looking for starting pitching, anyone else think maybe Aceves could be a potential trade candidate?

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

He might be, but Philly has next to nothing to give back.

    • UWS

Seems like Yanks need him more at the moment. Who would you trade him for?

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

No way I trade Ace. I think Aceves is one of only 3 guys that Girardi trusts in that pen. Him, Coke and Mo.

Also, with Bruney having this relapse so soon, I’m beginning to think we can’t count on getting anything out of him this year.

      • Accent Shallow

Yeah. This could get scary unless Robertson/Melancon (or both!) emerge as viable pitchers.

I want Veras off the roster, although that’s probably too much to hope for. For a guy which such seductive stuff, he just gets hit too hard.

        • whozat

Eh. You don’t really need 7 lockdown guys back there. If Coke keeps it up, you need like…two of Marte, Bruney, Melancon, Robertson, Aceves, Kontos, Veras, and Edwar to be really good.

Outside of that you just need serviceable arms, and guys like Alby, Romulo, Towers, Fossum, Tomko and the leftovers of the above list should really be able to do that. Throw an injured guy like Humberto, Horne, or Garcia in there as a wildcard, and that’s another chance.

          • Accent Shallow

I think Marte’s injury may be pretty serious. I don’t think he’s even throwing yet. And as noted above, Bruney may not be 100% this year, either. I’d imagine that Veras stays with the team unless everyone gets awesome.

        • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

. . .and always has, really. I think Veras will be gone at some point soon, but as you said they will need guys like Melancon/Robertson to perform well enough for them to cut him loose.

But when they play the Yanks, I want to rip their throats out.

      • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

        • UWS

Thank you for that much-needed clarification ;)

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Wow that 0-1 pitch was way outside.

  • dkidd

are the (texas) rangers for real?

    • whozat

Probably not. But their infield defense got light years better over the offseason, and you can’t underestimate how much that’s helped. Kisler will likely regress, but swapping Young for Andrus really, really helped.

      • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Still not enough pitching, you look at that roster and wonder how the heck they’re 7th in the AL in ERA. I think they’ll be bottom 5 by the All Star break.

        • whozat

I agree that they don’t have enough pitching to go all the way, but improving your D can really, really help your pitching, and the Rangers are a case in point.

The Mariners’ OF defense was helping their pitching a LOT early on, but I think that’s regressing to the mean somewhat now.

The Rangers could win that division, though. The A’s have less pitching than even the Rangers and M’s, and the Angels have just been destroyed by injuries.

          • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Its tough to bet against the Angels with that rotation, if healthy.

            • whozat

              Yeah…but it’s not :-)

And they still have no real offense.

      • Accent Shallow

And Andrus is actually hitting so far. Who knows how long that’ll keep up.

  • JP

Proud to say I’ve defended Melky against the trade requests of my sabermetric friends and relatives for years.

He won’t be Willie Mays, or even Bernie Williams. But he’s a heck of a ball player, and I don’t know where the Yankees could find a player of that age who can hit and field as well.

Looking down the road, the Yankees have A-Rod on salary til he’s about 53, they have an all-star 1b for 8 years, and a shortstop with cement legs and declining offense who is an institution in NY and will never be traded or moved.

So we’ll be needing all the young bodies we can get in the next few years. In some ways, Melky and Cano are the most valuable players on the team.

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Calling Melky “a heck of a ballplayer” is incredibly pre-mature. He was off to a similar start last year and then just tanked. I want to see his ’06 season repeat itself a few times or get better before I call him “a heck of a ballplayer.”

      • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

To be fair to Melky, this hot stretch to start the season has lasted much longer than last year. He batted .234 last May, this year he’s batted .310 in May.

        • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

You’re right, but I still want to see him put it up for a whole year, and the same goes for his fielding.

Curt Flood is his best comp, and he was a very good player. Those are some pretty good players on that list. Most of them got some MVP votes in their prime. This is why I’ve never totally given up on Melky.

    • whozat

But he’s a heck of a ball player, and I don’t know where the Yankees could find a player of that age who can hit and field as well.

He’s not a heck of a ballplayer. He’s had a hot couple of months, and I’m glad for them. It’s increased my belief that he could be a league-average or better CFer, but to take the Melky of April/May 2009 and assume that THIS is the real guy, and Melky of 2007 and 2008 isn’t smacks of willful refusal to believe data. Come on! He’s streaky. Let’s see how he recovers from a skid before we declare that he’s a “heck of a ballplayer” I hope he shows the ability to take a walk when he’s not hitting well, and that he doesn’t fall into the same tailspin that doomed his 2008.

      • Accent Shallow

I’m not sure 2007 Melky is that bad. Sure, he’s not an All-Star, but an 89 OPS+ with solid defense in CF isn’t a black hole. Especially when he has essentially a league average OBP.

          That’s true. 2007 Melky isn’t bad. But he’s not “a heck of a player.”

          • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

He is, however, a heckuva 4th OF.

          • Accent Shallow

Yeah. He’d have to feature a stellar OBP (and consequently a horseshit SLG), great baserunning, great defense, or some sort of tangible intangibles to vault him into “heck of a player” category.

        • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

          Melky’s 2007 UZR/150 in CF was -10.7.

          • whozat

            Touche.

            (what’s “ACTY/BBD” ?)

            • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

              ACTY = old blog (actyankee.blogspot.com)
BBD = new blog (Bronx Baseball Daily)

  • UWS

The Mets continue to prove they are who we thought they were.

    • whozat

Seriously. When 6-9 in your lineup is as much of a disaster as theirs is right now…you’d better have a hell of a pitching staff. And they don’t.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

    From Pinto:

“Alex now has seven home runs in 15 games since returning to the Yankees. If you look at his pace as over a 134 game season (he missed the first 28 games, he’s on a pace for 63 homers this year, which would set a new AL record. Imagine if he started the season healthy.”

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

I’m sorry, but with the way this stadium is playing Melky Cabrera will hit 40 HRs this year.

      • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

Yeah, and if it helps the Yankees win I don’t really have a problem with it.

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

    I fucking hate Sweet Caroline.

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

      Ever read the lyrics?

Kinda creepy if you ask me.

      • whozat

It’s VERY creepy. It’s about Caroline Kennedy, who was 11 when the song was written.

        • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Exactly. It sort of morphs between love song and proud papa stuff. *shivers*

      • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

        Holy Omir Santos

  • Accent Shallow

So is Papelbon going to have another outing where he creates a jam and proceeds to skate out of it? Blurst dude.

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

    That was a homer.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

I take back every bad thing I ever said about Omir Santos.

  • Accent Shallow

And the Mets’ hopes rest in the capable hands of . . . Omir Santos!

(Note: the above post was mocking him, and as I was typing, he doubled/possibly homered off the top of the Monster)

  • Reggie C.

Mets about to get robbed of a win.

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

They have replay, it will be overturned.

  • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

    That’s a HR.

    YAY METSIES!!!!

  • Mark

Lets here it for the Mets.

  • Pasqua

Never thought I’d say this, but I LOVE INSTANT REPLAY!

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

I think even Brian Bruney liked it there.

  • V

    Homerun! Thank goodness for replay!

I was falling asleep on my couch til that, heh.

  • UWS

    Umps better get it right.

  • Pasqua

This is proof positive for me: There is nothing better than seeing Jonathan Papelbon getting beaten.

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

    Omir Santos is a saint.

  • UWS

    ….and they do! Yay Mets!!!!!!!!!

  • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

    WOOOOO-HOOOOOO!!!!

    PAPS EATS SHIT!!!!!!

  • Kara

    Call overturned! HR!!!

  • Ivan

    ha ha ha cocksuckers.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Santos has beating the Sox in his blood. Yanks shoulda never let him walk. Bah!

    • UWS

He’s still helping us from afar. Let us be thankful for the silver linings.

    • V

Eh, he’s 28, and finally getting MLB at bats.

  • Mark

Bluejays just lost as well, but JJ Putz warming up yikes.

  • UWS

By all means, keep arguing, Terry.

  • Pasqua

If there is one person on the Sox that I can actually tolerate it’s Francona, but Tito…SIT DOWN! Your baby boy just got his ass handed to him. Deal.

  • UWS

Getting beaten by Omir Santos: better or worse than getting beaten by Brett Gardner?

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

      Worse.

The Yankees have a history of dramatic come from behind wins.

      The Mets…

      • UWS

        I see your point.

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Worse. Gardner at least has some talent with his legs.

Losing to Santos is like getting beat by the pitcher at the plate.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

Wait. If Putz can, well, not be a putz….

Do we end the night in possession of 1st place?

    • Pasqua

I think tied with the edge to the Sox based on head-to-head (but obviously that would only matter if the season ended today). So… tied.

    • UWS

I believe it would be a tie with Boston in the loss column.

      • Pasqua

But of course they need 3 outs first, and that just got a bit harder to achieve with the walk. Putz.

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Yanks/Sox tied in the loss at 18. Blue Jays have 19 losses, but would be 1/2 game ahead.

  • UWS

Someone needs to do a screen grab of Pap’s face in the dugout.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

K-Rod not even in the bullpen…must be hurt

    • UWS

      Mets are like a M*A*S*H unit…it’s ridiculous.

  • dkidd

i’m disappointed not to see k-rod

we’re through the looking glass here, people!

  • Pasqua

I know that this is a “glass half empty” comment to make considering the events of the day, but… can you imagine if we had actually BEATEN this team a couple of times so far this year?

    • UWS

We still have a bunch of games against them this year. Be patient, my child.

    • dkidd

will make it that much sweeter when we win the division

      • Pasqua

Oh, absolutely. Not complaining. Just dreaming of “what ifs?”

  • V

    Ugh….

I’m not feeling good about Putz.

  • UWS

    Don’t be a putz, JJ.

  • V

    WOW

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

    Wow.

  • dkidd

i take back everything i’ve ever said about castillo

  • Pasqua

Cry, Youk! Cry about it! C’mon! It’s what you do!

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Holy shit, what a play by Wright and Castillo.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

Since when do the Mets play something remotely resembling defense?

    • Pasqua

      It’s all mirrors.

  • UWS

    Wow, what a play!

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

My friend just IMed me: “David Wright owes Luis Castillo a blow job.”

  • dkidd

even gary cohen knows pap is a douche

  • Mark

    What a clown Paps is.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

    FIRST PLACE BABY

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

    ….wow.

  • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Gary Cohen in such a tool.

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

      ‘is’ such a tool.

  • UWS

Holy shit, what an ending! Yay Metsies!!!

  • V

Wow. Awesome defense by the Mets in the 9th.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Wow, what a play. Awesome half inning.

At least one NY team can beat the Sox.

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD
    • mustang

“At least one NY team can beat the Sox.”

      LMAO… and so true.

  • Pasqua

    Let’s go Mets! Oh, baby!

  • dkidd

mets win = blind squirrel yadda yadda

  • Mark

I am also pretty sure the Mets won the World Series on that last call by Cohen, but still a great win.

    • dkidd

gary cohen is like a joe buck opposite band. way too excited about everything

      • anonymous

I think Cohen is pretty good. Mets have a nice booth.

        • dkidd

i generally like them, but cohen gets a little overheated for my taste

  • mustang

I hate the Mets, but damn what a inning by the Mets.
You have to give them credit.

  • mustang

Every few things give more pleasure then to watch the Red Sox lose in painful fashion.
Great day to be a Yankees fan !!!!!

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

      Me too.

Damn, we have turned into Sox fans in some ways. We care way too much about that team, just like Sox fans care way too much about the Yanks.

I liked it so much better when we treated them like a minor nuisance.

      • mustang

All the Yankees need to do is win one World Series and everything will go back to the way it was.

  • Pasqua

I can’t remember being more entertained by a series of “last innings” then I was by these two games today. It’s sappy to say it, but oh hell…baseball is a beautiful game.

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

I can’t wait for Papelfuck to see the replay of that play at second.

  • dkidd

think espn will mention papelbon’s ridiculously bush league reaction to the wright/castillo play?

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD
    • anonymous

Aw I missed it. What did he do?

      • mustang

You have to see it. It was so funny at least it wasn’t a Joba fist pump.
        Thank God

        • anonymous

You know that kind of video gets burned and the ashes shot into the sun. Tell me, please.

          • mustang

Close play at second, but the runner was out he comes out of the dugout waving his hands up in the air like some guy who just got his car stolen.
He so wanted a chance to erase his fuck up. I loved every minute of it.

    • Tony

They’ll show it, giggle, and talk about his intensity and love of the game.

      • dkidd

        that’s exactly what they did

        bravo

        • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Wait, seriously? Did they actually just write it off?

          • UWS

            Yep.

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

I’m sure Gammons will be all over it.

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

“He wasn’t showing up the umpire at all, he was showing his support for Youkilis, who ran hard and tried to break up the play at second.”

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Chris Carlin looks like a bald version of Petey Abe.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Hah! Anyone just hear that stat on BBTN? A-Rod has 18 career homers that have tied or won the game in the 9th inning, second only to Sheff.

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Impossible. A-Rod is un-clutch, therefore that stat is incorrect.

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

and he’s what, 7 years younger?

    • Zack

I hate how ARod’s unclutchness is rubbing off on Melky, all these meaningless RBIs he’s getting in the 9th inning

  • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Anyone see Pete Rose’s latest signed ball?

    http://homerderby.com/archives/3987

Its real, and can be yours for $250. He needs the cash to pay his tab in Vegas.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Hey, Giambi hit his 400th career homer tonight. Congrats.

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Wow, having a rough year out in Oakland.

      .676 OPS, with that glove.

  • UWS

So a Nick Green catch in the middle innings is a Web Gem nominee, but the game-saving Wright-to-Castillo play in the 9th is sort of OK? F U, BBTN.

    • dkidd

once you start looking for the sox bias, it’s like a bad joke

    • Zack

To be fair, when you stop a ground ball you also have to make a good throw, which Wright didnt and almost went into RF. Castillo was a better ‘webgem’ then Wright

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Yeahh, but that’s like saying a Lamborghini is nicer than a Ferrari.

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Jerry Manuel just said he has “no idea” where Frankie Rodriguez is.

    • dkidd

      broken arrow!!!

    • anonymous

      Wow.

    • UWS

They just said he’s out with back spasms.

      • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

No I got that part, but he said he didn’t know where K-Rod physically is like either being in the park still or at a hospital, etc. That’s rather odd if you ask me.

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

6 IP, 4 H, 3 BB, 8K by Clayton Richard tonight. He’s sayin’ “Trade this, mother fuckers.” /crotch-grab

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Buck Showalter is saying we need to quantify “runs reduced” for good defensive plays. Yo, Buck, they’re called next level defensive statistics. Go look ’em up.

    • DreDog

He was told Jason Bay started playing phenomenal defense by Gammons and he wanted proof.

Just kidding but that would be awesome.

  • mustang

The Yankees and Red Sox are now both 25-18.

    WOW!!!!!!!!!!!

    • mustang

and .5 games back from 1st.

All in what 2 weeks or so.

      LOL

      • Accent Shallow

Now if only the Yankees can beat the Sox once or twice this year, they’ll be in business!

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Trying again: anyone else going to the game tomorrow?

    • Joey

If you have an extra ticket and want to buy me the flight from South FL also then hell yes ;-)

    • V

Nope. I only go to weeknight games (preferably Fridays or Thursday nights (and work from home on Friday)).

I have a long-ass commute (2 hours each way) for work in NYC ;-)

      • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Daaaaaamn. Where are you coming from?

  • donttradecano

So if Denver could inbound a ball theyd be up 3-0.

    • Tony

They’re one of the dumbest, most undisciplined teams in the NBA. It’s a wonder they’ve been able to hold it together this long.
