I do not begrudge anyone for asking for money. My problem is when people overplay their hand (See Jason Veritek). The star players will get their money (Strasberg will get is like Teixeira did in the offseason). But the non- A-Listers are the ones that will suffer. This is why a guy like Purke could drop like a rock.
What makes this draft very interesting is the three day drafting period. This sets up very unique possibilities for teams. 1: It offers teams the opportunity to speak to possible draftees before they pick to gauge their interest (The Yankees did this with Chase Weemes before drafting him, and now it can be done overnight). 2: With a bad economy, you could actually see teams draft players just to block others from taking them, with no intention of signing the player. For example: Hypothetically speaking: If a guy like Purke fell into the 20s or later (I would not hesitate to draft him, just to keep him away from the Red Sox). It will be interesting.
