Bleich struggles as Tampa falls

By

One year ago today on DotF, Austin Jackson doubled twice and drove in seven runs in Double-A Trenton’s win over New Britain.

Zach McAllister was named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week.

Scroll down for tonight’s game thread.

Triple-A Scranton (4-0 loss to Louisville) dominated by one of my favorite non-Yankee prospects, the guy the Phils traded to the Reds in ’07 for Kyle Lohse
Austin Jackson: 1 for 4, 1 2B, 2 K – first XBH in six games
Shelley Duncan: 1 for 2, 1 2B
Eric Duncan: 1 for 4 – played left field & collided with Austin Jackson on a fly ball … thankfully they both lived to tell about it
Everyone else: combined 0 for 20, 8 K – Todd Linden K’ed three times … Luis Nunez committed a fielding error
George Kontos: 7 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 1 HB, 6-10 GB/FB – 63 of 92 pitches were strikes (68.5%) … just 4 ER allowed in his last 24.1 IP
Jon Albaladejo: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1-0 GB/FB – 22 of 35 pitches were strikes (62.9%) … 35 pitches to get 3 outs? yikes
Mark Melancon: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1-0 GB/FB – 11 of 19 pitches were strikes (57.9%) … stranded an inherited runner

Double-A Trenton (2-0 win over Bowie)
Justin Snyder & Colin curtis: both 1 for 4 – Curtis K’ed
Chris Malec: 1 for 3, 1 BB
Edwar Gonzalez: 0 for 3, 1 BB
Kevin Smith & Noah Hall: both 0 for 4 – Smith K’ed … Hall scored a pair of runs after reaching on a fielder’s choice and an error
Kyle Anson: 2 for 3, 1 RBI, 1 K
Marcos Vechionacci: 0 for 2, 1 BB -avg down to .196
James Cooper: 1 for 1, 1 RBI, 2 BB
Josh Schmidt: 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 6-6 GB/FB – made his first career start because Ivan Nova is away from the team dealing with a death in his family
Mike Dunn: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 6-2 GB/FB
Amaury Sanit: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 0-1 GB/FB

High-A Tampa (8-2 loss to Charlotte)
Austin Krum: 1 for 5, 2 K, 1 SB
Eric Fryer, Jesus Montero, Austin Romine, Damon Sublett, Walt Ibarra & Jack Rye: all 1 for 4 – Fryer drew a walk & K’ed twice … Montero drove in a run & K’ed … Romine drew a walk, allowed 2 passed balls, 2 stolen bases & threw out a base stealer … Sublett doubled, drew a walk & K’ed twice … Ibarra scored a run & committed a fielding error … Rye tripled & scored a run
Brandon Laird: 0 for 3, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 E (fielding)
Mitch Hilligoss: 0 for 4, 2 K
Jeremy Bleich: 5 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, 5-4 GB/FB – 12 ER allowed in his last 9 IP after allowing just 15 ER in his previous 47.1 IP
Noel Castillo: 1.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1-2 GB/FB
Tim Norton: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 4-0 GB/FB – only 3 ER allowed in 14.2 IP back
Grant Duff: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 2-0 GB/FB

Luckily it was E. Duncan Ajax collided with instead of S. Duncan. Otherwise it would be a sad day for the Jackson family.

  2. Chief says:

gotta agree with u on Matt Maloney

i saw him pitch for the A Phillies affiliate, the lakewood blueclaws…he was amazing that year, along with carlos carrasco and josh outman, leading the blueclaws to the SAL championship. maloney pitched a CG shutout in the final game of the series if i remember correctly.

still dont see why so much love, 25years old and hasnt been to the bigs yet, had a 4.68era in 140ip in AAA last year, and unless they make a deal there’s no real room in that rotation for atleast another year

  3. Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

In VERY minor league news, Harold Garce pitched 3 innings for Yankees 1 in the DSL today. He didn’t walk anyone. Why news? The man throws 100+ but he walked 84 in 37 innings last year.

  4. Manimal says:

Is Mike Dunn someone who would go 3 innings or is he more of a LOOGY

  5. A.D. says:

Looks like Melancon is fixed again.

  6. Bryan says:

Does Montero get a hit in every game?

  7. RalphieD says:

where is kelvin De Leon playing this year?

  8. Accent Shallow says:

I really wish there were some more solid position players in AA. There’s Snyder, Gonzalez, and it seems like not much else.

  9. Ooooh, Andy Richter is on the new Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien! Sweet, I’m excited.

Who knows how many pitches the error cost him? He also pitched to two batters in the 9th before Melancon came on. Not great, but not as bad as it sounds.

  11. Drew says:

    Is Vasquez day to day?

  12. Baseballnation says:

Jeremy Bleich= Uninspiring first round pick…

    • K.B.D. says:

3.40 FIP isn’t anything to sneeze at. K/9 is a little low (6.11), but his control is pretty good (2.57 BB/9).

Or is this a reference to the “Austin Jackson being the most uninspiring top prospect we’ve had in awhile” thing?

  13. JohnC says:

Bleich should get TJ surgery now before its too late.

  14. Jerry says:

Can we just stick to baseball? These amateur comedians just don’t cut it.
